EDITORIAL Here’s to eight years of celebrating contemporary art in Paris, and more recently in Brussels. When the SLICK fair first launched in 2006 – quite spontaneously, and as a way of participating in a wave of new artistic talent that was sweeping through Paris – the main positioning of the fair was and continues to be: new discoveries. At a new location this year on the Banks of the Seine, a few steps away from the Grand Palais, SLICK continues to be committed to the most contemporary and promising forms of artistic creation. Most of the galleries represented at the fair are less than 10 years old, while the more established galleries are known for supporting emerging talents. It is these discoveries that excite us the most about the fair, as a reflection of the world that we live in and in the continuity of art history. Today more than ever, the critical role of galleries in supporting emerging talent needs to be recognize and supported, particularly in these complex times. That is why Slick Project was created, just as spontaneously as the Slick fair. These special productions, based on installations, or a series of paintings or photographs, are about spontaneity, creativity, and are emblematic of an artist’s career path. To show our engagement towards these artists, we created the Collectors Prize in recognition of exceptional works that transcend boundaries. For this edition, Pierre Hardy, Christophe, Sandra Mulliez, Renaud Donnedieu de Vabres, Joanna Chevalier and Jean-Pierre Marois will be awarding the prize. For Slick 2013, this year’s key words are: passion, ambition and new discoveries.

Huit ans déjà que SLICK expose ses contemporains à Paris et depuis peu à Bruxelles. Apparue spontanément en 2006 afin de participer au nouvel élan artistique qui parcourait Paris, la foire a su choisir son positionnement : la découverte. Avec son nouvel emplacement sur les Berges de la Seine, à quelques pas du Grand Palais, SLICK continue à s’engager auprès de la création la plus contemporaine et la plus prometteuse. La majorité des galeries ont moins de 10 années d’existence. Celles qui sont plus établies soutiennent la création émergente parce qu’elle nous fait vibrer, parce qu’elle fait échos à notre monde et à l’histoire de l’art. Aujourd’hui plus que jamais, nous avons besoin d’affirmer le rôle majeur des galeries, de mettre en avant leur engagement et leur ambition face à une conjoncture complexe. C’est pour cela que les Slick Project sont apparus aussi spontanément que la foire fut créée. Ces productions spéciales, que ce soit des installations, une série de peintures ou de photographies, parlent de spontanéité, de créativité et sont emblématiques du parcours des artistes. C’est pour cela que nous avons souhaité les soutenir plus particulièrement en créant le Prix des Collectionneurs. Remis cette année par Pierre Hardy, Christophe, Sandra Mulliez, Renaud Donnedieu de Vabres, Joanna Chevalier et Jean-Pierre Marois, il récompense cette ambition de créer hors des sentiers battus des oeuvres d’envergure. Les maîtres-mots de cette nouvelle édition de SLICK : passion, ambition et découverte.
