Randy’s story tells it well. Our mission in each home at Sheridan House is to offer a safe and loving environment that draws each child to Christ. But it’s more than that. We also have to give them the ability… the personal discipline… to be able to follow Christ’s plan for their lives. Many people believe in Christ but do not live a life that displays what they claim to believe. We want to raise leaders. Leaders know what they believe in and have the discipline to stay the course. When a teen is living with us at Sheridan House, we put the tools he will need in his personal tool box. Some use those tools of faith and discipline immediately. Others do not open that “box” for years. Either way, they leave Sheridan House knowing how to lead. They must lead by first choosing to lead themselves!

It doesn’t have to be something you give after you are gone…you can witness it and show your children and your grandchildren, “This is what our family does.” Putting your name on a building project or on the future of a ministry is not about lifting you up. It’s about training the next generation.

House taught him the discipline he needed and how to work to achieve his goals; but those tools would not be applied until several years later. Randy learned what he needed to do to turn his life around during his stay at Sheridan House, but it wasn’t until later that he began the journey that would lead him to become a pastor at Peace Lutheran Church in Lakeland, Florida. It’s amazing the journey God permits us to take and the holes He has to pull us out of. Randy is one of those stories of the miracles and love of God…and Sheridan House got to be part of his story.

...came to live at Sheridan House, directly from the Court system, in 1973. To give his story context, Randy was already at Sheridan House when Bob Barnes arrived as the new Director in 1974.
