Bryan entered the Residential Program, a scared, shy and mischievous young teenager. He found himself failing the 6th grade and was in danger of repeating it entirely.

Legacy Giving or Planned Giving is about making a lasting impact for God’s

Kingdom. It doesn’t have to be something you give after you are gone…you can witness it and show your children and your grandchildren, “This is what our family does.” Putting your name on a building project or on the future of a ministry is not about lifting you up. It’s about training the next generation. Set up a recurring, monthly donation with your personal online banking system. Monthly Giving is a tremendous blessing because it helps us budget our money throughout the year. When you support Sheridan House as a monthly donor you are changing the next generation – for Christ’s sake.

Bryan in study hall

Yet thru it all there was a bit of optimism about him and his outlook on life. Bryan came from a single-parent home, where his father was regrettably not in the picture. With outside factors stacked against him, tentative yet curious, Bryan entered the program eager to see what he was made of when push came to shove.

He began to feel a sense of accomplishment. As he saw his work ethic increase, consequently his grades also improved. It has been five months since Bryan came to Sheridan House and the change in him to this point is dramatic. He continues to improve in his school work, and his grades reflect it. Bryan’s behavior at home has changed for the better and especially here at Sheridan House. He is showing signs of being more mature. This past month, Bryan won the “Eagle Award for Excellence” and is currently in the running for team captain. As staff, we believe the future is very bright for Bryan. He is a welcomed addition to House 2.

Winner of the Eagle Award

As he saw his work ethic increase, consequently his grades also improved. As the days rolled by Bryan became more comfortable in his new ‘house’ and with the other boys in the program. It became obvious why he was enrolled in the program. Bryan struggled with controlling his immature impulses and with being mischievous. After a few months in the program, he began to see a behavioral pattern that was hindering his development and advancement. If he didn’t learn to be more self controlled, he was going to continue to accrue consequences and make life harder for himself. It was at this point things began to change for the better. Bryan recognized he was his biggest problem and began to take responsibility for his choices. Once Bryan began taking responsibility for his choices, he began to earn more and more points on his weekly progress reports. He became more respectful to his teachers, and his mother. Bryan was now enjoying the rewards of life, rather than the hard consequences.

Working hard on improving his grades
