Jonathan came off the starting line in first place. You would think he would have gotten exhausted and dropped behind or even quit. But he never quit and that’s what we train these children to do here at Sheridan House. Jonathan won the race and that’s one of the major focal points of Sheridan House. Not a 5k race. The race God has set before each of these teenagers. At Sheridan House we teach the children to run the race and fight the distraction. We teach the children that God has a plan, but life, friends or just giving up can distract you from God’s best. Run and never quit. In short, we are training tomorrow’s leaders. Leaders God will use to impact this culture.

“We’ve got to step it up Amigos!” Jonathan celebrates with his friend after his big win
Before graduating from Sheridan House he became a Team Captain. One of the phrases he used with the boys on his team was, “We’ve got to step it up Amigos!” That’s obviously a phase he ran through his head while winning this year’s 5K. Today, Jonathan is in eleventh grade at St. Thomas Aquinas HS and plans to go the Arizona State University after graduation. He always knew God had a plan for his life. Sheridan House gave him the personal discipline to follow that plan… to finish the course and never quit.
A standard phrase from Jonathan. He’s the young man pictured on the cover because he won the 2016 Sheridan House Family Values 5K. But there’s so much more to this story! Jonathan was 12 years old when he came to live at Sheridan House in 2011. His journey to Sheridan House was miraculous. His mother was talked out of aborting him and he was raised by his grandparents. His incredible grandparents led this very smart young man to Christ at an early age.
