In fact, we are more than a summer camp, we are a home away from home. We are an extension of your child’s school year, a welcoming community, and a fun, creative environment. Each day is unique, exciting, and the quality of our programs can’t be matched.

Frequently Asked Questions

1. Is the Seven Hills Summer Program available to Seven Hills students only?

No, all children from the entire Greater Cincinnati area are invited to attend.

2. May I choose to attend only the weeks that fit into our schedule?

Yes, all programs are offered on a week-by-week basis and, additionally, children have the option to register either for full-day or half-day programs. Weekly sessions begin on Monday, June 12 and continue through Friday, Aug. 4.

3. Do you offer extended hours?

Yes, in addition to the standard day, 9 a.m.-3:30 p.m., there is an Early Care option from 7:30-9 a.m., After Care from 3:30-4:45 p.m., and Extended Care from 4:45-6 p.m.

4. What is your transportation policy?

Depending on age, children may travel offsite via either The Seven Hills School bus or school van:

• Children ages 7 and 8 may ride in the school vans. Those who weigh more than 40 pounds and are under 4 feet 9 inches tall, must be secured with a booster seat.

Lunch Option

Full day participants may pack lunch or choose to purchase the weekly lunch option for $30 per week.

Programs are available for children ages 3-18.

• Parents should provide a booster seat for their child if they are in the Create Your Summer group and are traveling offsite for field trips.

• Children ages 5 and 6 may only be transported by a school bus and don’t require a booster seat due to the vehicle’s classification.

5. What age does my child need to be to attend?

The Seven Hills Summer Program serves children ages 3 to 18.

Honeybees

The Honeybees program is designed for pre-kindergarten age children. Keeping this age group in mind, weekly themes are specifically designed for a fun, relaxing summer while still implementing academics into the framework. This program aims to support children’s social, emotional, and academic development. Children must be toilet trained to attend.

The Great Letter Search

We have some mystery letters on the loose and the Honeybee campers are on the case! We will focus on some letter recognition and discovering letters in our names. Some activities this week will feature searching for letters in sensory tables, reading books, and letter scavenger hunts!

In his popular children’s show “Mr. Rogers’ Neighborhood,” Mr. Rogers greeted children each day and asked this simple question of his viewers. The importance of this question will be the focus of this fun-filled week! There’ll be activities, books, and crafts that feature the themes of friendship and acceptance aplenty as we teach children how to be neighborly and kind.

The Big Blue Sea

Let’s explore under the sea! Campers will spend the week learning about the ocean and all the creatures who live under the water. One of the biggest focuses of the week is how we can take care of the ocean, including pollution solutions, cleaning up trash, and supporting ocean life. We may even have some special aquarium guests!

Stars, Moon, and Silly Tunes

July 3-7 (No program July 4)

“Twinkle, twinkle, little star” is one popular kids song, but this week we explore all the riddles and rhymes that help children learn when they are young. In addition to songs from “The Cow Jumped Over the Moon” to the “Three Little Pigs,” there are also a plethora of children’s books we’ll read that tie into this theme throughout the week. By the end of the week, your child may even be creating their own version of the timeless characters featured in these stories!

galore! Our Honeybees will spend time viewing and imitating the art of Charley Harper, a famous Cincinnati artist. Charley Harper’s art was inspired by nature and geometric shapes, so this week we will celebrate both! As we explore his world, we will discover how colors and lines can be found in nature and in art.

Learning about numbers, in a fun way, can help kids grow in every way! This week will explore creative games that help children practice counting, number identification, and early math skills. We may even use a few edible manipulatives to make math more enjoyable — and tasty!

Bug Detectives

The hunt is on! Creepy critters live in the dirt, fly in the air — we can find them everywhere! Campers will put on their detective hats, grab their magnifying glasses, and start the search. Bugs are an important part of our ecosystem and we will learn all about their important contributions to our planet!

S’More Camp, Please!

July 31-Aug. 4

Summer may be coming to a close, but we are offering one more week of Honeybee fun to make summer feel like it will last forever. We will let our imaginations run wild this week while we go on a pretend camping trip and act like wilderness explorers. While on our adventure, we will sing classic camp songs, read books featuring animals in the woods, and make s’mores, of course!

Our Stingerbees summer program provides eight weeks of exciting learning opportunities. Campers expand their imaginations and knowledge through a variety of enriching, academic-based, hands-on activities. The focus of the weekly themes is having fun in a relaxed summertime atmosphere. Stingerbee campers will also take time to

Artist Spotlight: Marvelous Murals

July 10-14

This exciting week of camp will explore large scale art — the Cincinnati murals! These unique creations feature interesting shapes, famous Cincinnatians, and a variety of illustrations. Stingerbees will get to create their own art installations, journey through a pretend art museum, and display their work for other visitors to view. Throughout this camp children will also learn about the artists behind the murals we have all over our beautiful city.

Let’s get creative with counting! Math during the summer doesn’t always sound fun, but this week will help children get excited about learning early foundational math skills. We will “dig” into creative problemsolving, real-world math, number recognition, and counting, of course. By the end of the week your children will be excited about numbers! Can you dig it?

Spending the week pretending we are under the night sky sleeping in a tent by a warm fire will jump start your child’s imagination! The perfect way to end the summer will be to enjoy a pretend camp-out with friends.

Camp snapshot: This robotics program is for those ready to learn about coding, detailed Lego building, and programming. We will create our own robots and code programs that instruct the robots to complete tasks. Using First Lego League materials, we will learn about the importance of coding to the future of tech! The Magic of Movies: Drawing Inspiration from Movies to Make Fantastic Films

Camp Snapshot: This week we will journey into the silver screen and star in our own short shows and clips. Through the magic of apps like iMovie and Splice, campers can bring their stories to life and share them with fellow campers. Students will learn about different movie-making techniques, ways to achieve different shots, and how to make their movies just like professionals do. Camp Snapshot: Learn foundational concepts in the game of chess. We’ll start out with the basics; how chess pieces move, the three stages of a chess game, and, of course, how a game is won. We’ll also focus on some of the life skills chess can teach us, such as learning to make and adapt plans, thinking from someone else’s perspective, and creative problem-solving. Along the way there will be puzzles, mini-games, and fun chess variants.

Camp Snapshot: There are many women in professional sports who found their passion for sports at a young age. Some athletes may include Simone Biles, Alex Morgan, and Misty Copeland.

Camp Snapshot: Golf is a lifetime sport and this week will get children started in the game or hone their existing skills. Players will receive a daily lesson from a PGA pro and will work on swing components, putting, and course etiquette. After the lessons, players will be grouped by level and play a daily round of golf with a coach. Courses may include Reeves, Little Miami, Meadow Links, and World of Golf. Participants must bring their own clubs and golf balls.

Wilderness Warriors

Instructor: Jacquie Berting

Camp Snapshot: Looking to sharpen your camping and outdoor skills? In this camp, students will practice putting up a tent, create their own hiking stick, learn about the rules of leaving no trace outdoors, and much more. A variety of camping themed games and crafts will round out this fun-filled week. (Please note: there is no overnight camping trip during this camp.)

Camp Snapshot: Kiddos can get ready for the new school year by brushing up on reading, writing, and math activities each morning. With our Middle and Upper School Experience format, participants may select a morning enrichment session of their choice and choose to stay for our afternoon experience, The Swarm (see below). We also have several full day opportunities for both Middle and Upper School students scattered throughout our eight-week Summer Program, that will allow students to experience service learning, adventure, and team building.

Our age-appropriate offerings are similar to the Seven Hills’ School experience — hands-on, engaging, and creative. The Summer Program offers a full spectrum of activities for rising fifth graders through 12th graders to enjoy.

Camp Snapshot: The Hyde Park Blast was founded as a “way for the community to have fun, be active, and raise money for a good cause — the fight against cancer.” Campers will learn about The Cure Starts Now, which helps to support families and fund pediatric brain cancer research, while working with the Blast organization to prepare the week of the event. Seven Hills students who fully participate in all four days of camp will earn 20 hours of community service that can be applied toward their graduation requirement. Additional hours can be earned by volunteering in Blast activities outside of the camp day (ie. packet pickup and race day volunteering). Players will receive a daily lesson from a PGA pro and will work on swing components, putting, and course etiquette. Upper School PE Course

This is a two week program for Seven Hills 11th grade students

Instructor: Lindsay Steuer

The program will follow, as closely as possible, the established Physical Education curriculum for sophomores as stated in the current course description. Students will be exposed to a variety of lifetime sports and activities as well as fitness exercises that aim to provide stress release to each student. Yoga and Pilates will be incorporated throughout the curriculum as well as self-defense. Students will also learn new workouts in the weight room and different fitness workouts they can use outside of the classroom. Lifetime sports that will be taught include, but are not limited to golf, tennis, frisbee golf, cornhole, badminton, and bowling.

REGISTRATION :

To register for Summer Program classes, visit 7Hills.org/Summer During registration, complete the following forms in Ultracamp, our online registration system:

• Emergency Medical Form

• Immunization Form (Honeybees program only)

• Authorized Pick Up Form

• Swimming Authorization Form (Stingerbees program only)

• Emergency Action Plan (if applicable)

All online forms must be submitted prior to the program start date.

PAYMENT :

A $50 per program deposit is due at the time of registration. All deposits are nonrefundable. You may pay via credit card or check.

EARLY REGISTRATION : February to April, with final payment due May 1, 2023.

LATE REGISTRATION : May to July, with full payment due upon registration.

If payment is not received by above dates, your child may lose their spot.

LOCATION AND FIELD TRIPS : Most programs are held on The Seven Hills School’s Hillsdale Campus at 5400 Red Bank Road. For programming that takes place off-site, permission slips will be required. Certified van and bus drivers transport children for all off-site programs. Our transportation policy is included in the parent handbook, including rules on van and bus safety.

PLACEMENT REQUESTS : We are unable to accept requests for placement in a particular Honeybees, Stingerbees, Create Your Summer, or Middle and Upper Experience group.

CANCELLATION POLICY

• Cancellation by Seven Hills

Programs may be cancelled by Seven Hills due to insufficient enrollment up to two weeks prior to the program start date. In this instance, a full refund will be issued, including the $50 deposit.

• Cancellation by Family Families may cancel their Summer Program enrollment up to two weeks prior to the start date and receive a full refund minus the $50 deposit. If the cancellation occurs within two weeks of the first day of camp, no refunds will be issued.

DISCOUNTS :

A 5% discount applies if your child is registered for four or more weeks per summer.

WAITLIST :

Many popular programs have waitlists. If a space becomes available, you will be notified via email. You will have 36 hours to respond before the space is offered to another family.

ALLERGIES :

Children with food allergies must provide their own lunch. Allergies must be discussed with the Summer Program Team. If allergies are listed on the required medical form, we require an Emergency Action Plan on file and epinephrine auto-injector, if needed.

COVID PROTOCOLS :
