The Colorado College Tigers will enter the SCAC Championship Tournament as the second seed, earning a first round bye after finishing conference play with a record of 10-2-2. The Tigers entered the 2013 tournament as the third-seeded team, defeating Austin College 2-0 in the first round, before falling to Southwestern University in an overtime match. The Tigers offense is led by senior Brandon Ogilvie, who has marked a team-leading 11 goals this season, adding two assists. Twelve members of the CC team have recorded at least one goal, including seven from Max Grossenbacher, five from Stuart Beezley and three from the 2013 Freshman of the Year, Caden MacKenzie. MacKenzie also leads the team with four assists this season. Freshman goalkeeper Theo Hooker allowed just seven goals against him in 1317:57 minutes this season, marking a 0.48 goal against average, while putting up 36 saves in sixteen games. Hooker currently leads the SCAC with his goals against average and total goals against, and ranks third in save percentage (.837). Colorado College, which earned a first round bye, will face the winner between No. 4 seeded Dallas and No. 5 seeded Texas Lutheran in Saturday’s second semifinal. The Tigers defeated TLU by margins of 2-1 and 1-0 in their two meetings this season, while they earned a 3-0 win and a 2-2 double-overtime draw against Dallas. Colorado College’s only conference losses this season came to No. 1 seeded Trinity University.

PLAYERS TO WATCH BRANDON OGILVIE

Ogilvie, a senior forward, started 16 games for the Tigers this season, and marked a team leading 11 goals (second in the conference). Ogilvie also added two assists for a team-leading 24 points, which ranks second among the SCAC. The senior also marked a hat-trick in a non-conference game against Concordia-Moorhead at home in a 6-0 win.

Grossenbacher, a junior midfielder, started in all 18 of the Tigers games this season and ranks second among the team with seven goals this season, while adding three assists for 17 total points. Grossenbacher also took four penalty kicks for the Tigers, able to convert three into scores. Four of his goals this season proved to be game-winners, tying for the best mark in the conference.

After failing to earn a bid in the conference tournament a year ago, the University of Dallas Crusaders rebounded with a 6-6-2 conference mark -- earning the No. 4 seed in this year’s event. The Crusaders offense is led by junior forward Colton Allen who has marked eight goals this season and one assist. Senior Matt Wise has helped the offense, addding five goals of his own, while putting up five assists. Wise has taken all four of the Crusader’s penalty kicks this season, converting three of them into scores. Ben Mannings and Nathan Nwaeze have each added three goals for the Crusaders offense. Dallas has implemented a shared goalie system this season with sophomores PJ Hasson and Tino Gamueda each earning quality minutes. Hasson has managed a 0.82 goals against average on the season, allowing just eight goals, while making 56 saves. Hasson’s save percentage of 0.875 leads the SCAC. Gamueda has let just 14 goals past, marking a .759 save percentage, sixth-best in the SCAC. The Crusaders open tournament play against the Texas Lutheran Bulldogs who they swept in both meetings this season with identical 1-0 scores. Colton Allen marked the only goal, and game-winner in the first meeting, while Matt Wise put in the game winner in the second match. The winner between the two teams in the SCAC Tournament will face Colorado College Tigers in Saturday’s second semifinal.

PLAYERS TO WATCH COLTON ALLEN

Allen, a junior forward, started in 15 games this season for the Crusaders and led the team’s offense with eight goals, which ranks fourth among the SCAC including three game-winners. Allen has also marked 17 points this season, which is good for sixth in the conference.

Wise, a senior midfielder, finished the regular season with five goals, which is second-best among the Crusaders, while adding a team-leading five assists. Wise has taken all four of the Crusaders penalty kicks this season, able to convert three of them into scores.

Bernard,a senior defender, started in all 19 of the Crusaders game, helping the defense to eight shutouts throughout the entire season, including four in conference play. Bernardhas also put up nine shots this season, including two shots on target this season.

The Schreiner University Mountaineers will head to the SCAC Championship after earning the sixth and final spot in this year’s tournament. The Mountaineers competed in the tournament last year after earning a fifth seed, but fell to the fourth seeded Texas Lutheran Bulldogs in a 1-0 match. SU finished the conference season with a record of 5-9, sweeping both Austin College and Centenary and earning their fifth win over the third-ranked Southwestern Pirates. The offensive attack is led by Justin Edwards, Gregg Guittierrez and Ryan Hernandez who have all marked four goals on the season. Edwards and Hernandez also added one and two assists, respectively. The Mountaineers marked 13 goals and 10 assists in conference play, placing them in the top half of the SCAC in both categories. Goalkeeper Blake Lawson has played in 13 games this season, starting in 11 of them. While in goal, Lawson has recorded two shutouts, while making 49 saves, marking a .721 save percentage. The Mountaineers will take on the Southwestern in Friday’s second quarterfinal match. The two teams split their meetings this season, as Schreiner was able to earn a 1-0 win in the most recent contest. Despite being on the losing side of a 14-3 shot advantage, the Mountaineers were able to convert their only shot on goal into the game-winner. Lawson marked four saves in the game to earn the win in goal.

PLAYERS TO WATCH RYAN HERNANDEZ

Hernandez, a junior forward, tied two other Schreiner players for a team high four goals this season. He added two assists and leads the team with 10 total points for the season. Hernandez’s four goals came on just 13 shots, earning a .308 shot percentage, which ranks second for the Mountaineers. He also marked one game-winning goal.

In his first year of play, freshman forward Guitierrez made a big impression, playing and starting in all 16 of the Mountaineer’s matches, while tying with two upperclassmen for a team-leading four goals and one game-winning goal.

JUSTIN EDWARDS

Edwards, a senior midfielder, was the third of the Mountaineer players to mark four goals this season. He added one assist to that, marking nine total points for the year, second-best on the team. Edwards was the only member of the Schreiner team to take more than one penalty kick, converting on one of two. He also led the team with 28 total shots and marked one game-winning goal.

The Southwestern University Pirates finished conference play with a record of 7-6-1, earning the third seed heading into this year’s championship. The Pirates advanced to the championship match in the 2013 tournament before dropping a hard fought match (1-0) to top-seed Trinity University. The Pirates’ offensive attack is led by Andres Carreno-Mendes who has recorded eight goals on the season, while adding two assists. Nine of the Pirates’ players have recorded at least one goal this season, including sophomore Michael Olivares who has recorded three and freshman Christian Lopez who has marked two this season. After starting the season 0-5, with three of those losses coming to top 25 teams, Southwestern rebounded with four straight wins in conference play to right the ship. The Pirates will face Schreiner University in Friday’s second quarterfinal match. In their two meetings this season, each team picked up a victory on its’ home field by the same 1-0 score. In the Pirates’ win over the Mountaineers, Southwestern was able to earn a 19-9 shooting advantage and Carreno-Mendez put up the eventual game-winner in the 70th minute. In the second meeting between the teams, the Pirates’ defense held the Mountaineers to just one shot on goal, but it proved to be the only one they needed.

PLAYERS TO WATCH ANDRES CARRENO-MENDEZ

Carreno-Mendez, a sophomore midfielder, leads the Pirates’s offense with eight goals, which ranks fourth among the entire SCAC. He has also posted four game-winning goals, which is tied with one other player to lead the conference. Carreno-Mendez’s 18 points rank fifth among the SCAC players.

Lopez, a freshman midfielder, has started 15 of his 19 games played in his first year of collegiate soccer. Lopez has helped the Pirates to a SCAC tournament berth, marking two goals on the season, including one game-winner, and a team-leading four assists.

Daniel, a sophomore defender, has helped the Pirates defense to seven wins this season, earning a role as the team’s spiritual core. Daniel has also added four shots on the season, two on target. The Pirates defense has posted five shutouts this season.

The Texas Lutheran University Bulldogs will enter the 2014 SCAC Championship as the fifth-seed after finishing the regular season with an overall record of 8-8-2, 6-7-1 in conference play. The Bulldogs were seeded fourth in the 2013 tournament and made their way to the second round after defeating the Schreiner Mountaineers. The Bulldogs faced the eventual champion, Trinity University, in the second round and fell 3-0. The TLU offensive attack is led by Alejandro Martinez who leads the Bulldogs with five goals. Isaac Lopez is close behind with four goals, but has marked five assists on the season to put up a team-leading 13 points. Colin Nunley is tied with Lopez with five assists, the highest mark on the team. In goal for the Bulldogs is Jonathan Michael who has recorded 62 saves, while allowing just 15 goals against him in 18 games. Michael has posted eight shutouts thist season while maintaining a .805 save percentage and .80 goals against average. In Friday’s opening quarterfinal match, the Bulldogs will face the University of Dallas. Dallas earned 1-0 victories in both regular season meetings between the two teams this year. The Bulldogs led in shooting in both games, but impressive performances in the net by both of the Crusaders’ keepers proved to be TLU’s downfall as all 12 of the shots on goal were thwarted. Martinez, a sophomore forward, started 16 of the 18 games that he played this season for the Bulldogs and lead the offenive attack for the team with five goals on the season, two of which were game-winners. Martinez also lead the team with 49 shots on the season, 28 on

Lopez, a junior midfielder, led the Bulldogs with 13 points this season, marking four goals and five assists. Lopez also recorded a team-leading three game-winning goals this season. Lopez has also taken the team’s only penalty kick of the season, converting it into a goal. In his sophomore season, he also led the team in goals, shots and points.

JONATHAN MICHAEL

Michael, a junior goalkeeper, started 15 games this season and recorded 1680:55 minutes in goal for the Bulldogs. In this period, he recorded a conference-leading eight shutouts while maintaining a .805 save percentage, allowing just 15 goals on 77 shots faced. Michael ranks second in the SCAC in minutes played and third in goals against average.

The Trinity Tigers enter the post season on a 16-game winning streak after finishing the regular season with a perfect 14-0 conference record. The Tigers won the SCAC Championship in 2013 after defeating the Southwestern Pirates in a thrilling 1-0 match. The Tigers made their way to the NCAA quarterfinals, before falling to Loras College. This season, the Tigers lead the conference with 74 goals, averaging just under four goals per game, 60 of which came in their 14 conference matches, They also lead the conference with 487 shots, 234 shots on goal and 58 assists. The Tigers defense has allowed just 11 goals against them this season in 19 games, a 0.63 goals against average. Johnny Lawson leads the offensive attack with a team and conference-leading 16 goals, while Zacharias Edholm is behind him with nine of his own. All-American Victor Araujo has put up eight goals this season, defender Tom Carwile has marked six and underclassmen Brent Mandelkorn and Callum Squires have each marked five. Through October 29, the Trinity offense was ranked second-rank in scoring. The Tigers will receive a first round bye in the SCAC tournament after earning the top seed during the regular season. In Saturday’s first semifinal, Trinity will meet the winner between the University of Dallas and Texas Lutheran. Trinity outscored Dallas 8-1 in their two meetings this season, while they had only an overall two-goal margin of victory between their two matches with TLU.

PLAYERS TO WATCH JOHNNY LAWSON

Lawson, a senior forward, started in 17 games this season, helping the prolific Tigers’ offense to 19 wins. Lawson led the team and the conference with 16 goals and 40 points. Lawson marked three game-winning goals and converted both of his penalty kicks into scores for the Tigers. Lawson marked one hat-trick this season, which came against Centenary College in a 5-0 win and had four multiple-goal games.

Araujo, a senior midfielder, played in 18 games this season, while marking a team and conference-leading 10 assists. Araujo also put up eight goals this season, which rank third among the Tigers and ties for fourth among the SCAC. In 2013, Araujo was named an NSCAA All-American and named to the second-team All-American by D3Soccer.com.

Cardone, a senior goalkeeper, finished the season after starting in 18 matches. On the season, Cardone allowed just nine goals by the opposition, marking a 0.58 goals against average and a .859 save percentage, which both rank second among the SCAC. Cardone marked 7 shutouts on the season, earning 16 wins in the net. Cardone’s biggest game came against the second-seeded Colorado College where he led the Tigers to a shutout with 10 saves.
