What’s going on in Thailand: by Sharon Bruce
When we visited Thailand a few months ago we met a variety of missionaries serving God in ministry. Many of them are doing fantastic work with orphans, AIDS victims, refugees, sex trafficking victims, etc. This work is desperately needed and so important. The work New Tribes Mission does in Thailand is unique.
Our Ministry Goal: Ric and I have been trained by New Tribes Mission to do church planting among Thailandʼs unreached people groups. An unreached people group shares a language and culture of their own and have never had the Gospel clearly presented in their language. Our ministry goal is to “plant” a New Testament church in one of the remaining people groups classified as “unreached” in Thailand.
Where we fit in: I have been trained in linguistics which will www.ntm.org/ric_bruce really help if the people group we work with does not have an alphabet. I will be the one to define each letter through extensive analysis of the language. Linguistics also plays a key role in translation. Ric has a passion for teaching and I believe it is one of his gifts. He is excited to teach and create Bible lessons. He also has a desire to translate the Bible and create Bible helps.
What our life will look like: Our first task in Thailand will be to learn the language and culture of our new home. We will begin an immersion program in which we will learn Thai in college classes, private lessons, cultural excursions and a local Thai church. Weʼre excited to get started! After those first two years the fun really begins: we will move into a village to learn the language and culture of the unreached people group who live there. Our goal is to plant a thriving New Testament church in this village and see what God does!
