It’s hard to describe The Cuban Brothers. The entertainment of choice for Richard Branson, Elton John and Robbie Williams, their vibrant mix of music, comedy and dance has resulted in sold out shows across the globe. The faux Cuban accents are spot-on and the cleverly re-imagined funk, hip-hop and soul classics are bought up to date with live DJ beats. The Cuban Brothers essentially bring the party. They’ve warmed up for the likes of James Brown, Chuck Berry, Fatboy Slim, De La Soul, Talib Kweli and performed with the likes of The Prodigy, Q-Tip, Chic, Roy Ayers and Jocelyn Brown. You can expect to find them on the Isle Of Wight, year in, year out. This is because they’ve hosted the Bestival main stage every year since it’s inception in 2004! Their summer is spent at the worlds biggest festivals including Glastonbury and they have even filmed their own sitcom! Mr Kyps is no stranger to global artists having hosted the likes of Joe Bonamassa and Adam Ant but you’re unlikely to see either of those two performing the jaw-dropping breakdance moves of Miguel Mantovani, Archerio Mantovani and Kengo San.

www.rock-regeneration.co.uk Christchurch music venue the Thomas Tripp plays hosts to a monthly live music night under the banner “Friends of the Lighthouse”. This evening is one of the only of its kind in the area to help young aspiring musicians get themselves some much needed gig experience, it gives them a much needed chance to play in front of an audience. The event is run by the very dedicated Russ Gannicott and his team of hard working volunteers who are always happy to give opportunities to any young local bands. So far bands including Fish out of Water, Southern Corruption, Eyre, Almost Ready, Infinite Jest, The V2’s and The Vanndors have all played successful gigs under Russ’s watchful eye. The Lighthouse Youth & Community Centre in Barrack Road Christchurch is suffering after the government announced funding cuts in this area and the place will now have to run off of donations from the general public. These musicians are very much the future of our local music scene so get along to one of these exciting events every first Wednesday of the month at the Thomas Tripp from 9pm.
