Pass close to the lift and follow the trail to the crossroad «La Chaux - Le Chapelet.» Leave the track and go down towards the forest. At the edge of the forest, go north to «Les Torrents.» At the junction, turn left to the north and reach the parking «le Chapelet» through «Dzayo» or continue right down to the forest through the variant «Les Torrents» - road of «Combe de l’A - Le Chapelet» parking. Grand-St-Bernard pass
A thoroughfare that has been used for thousands of years, between Switzerland and Italy, the pass is one of the notto-be-missed locations in the St-Bernard region. A treasure at the heart of the mountain, the Grand-St-Bernard Hospice has for centuries brought peace and comfort to travellers. It was in the 11th century that Bernard de Mento, archdeacon, and future StBernard of Mont-Joux, founded this hostel for travellers crossing the pass. Today, the hospice is not simply a place to stay en route but a haven of peace encouraging spirituality. As the pass is closed in winter, access is only possible on showshoes or back-country skis. Please ensure that you obtain prior information regarding the conditions and that you are accompanied by a guide. Walk with the St-Bernard dogs 40 Working with the canons to rescue travellers, the St-Bernard dogs originate from Grand-St-Bernard Hospice at an altitude of 2500m. Strong and gently, they embody the friendship and welcoming tradition of this emblematic location. Barry is the most famous representative. Kids up to the age of ten can be pulled on a harnessed sled. Dates and times:

Artillery fort / Champex-Lac The Artillery Fort at Champex-Lac constituted the central pivot of the Grand St Bernard regionâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s fortifications between 1940 and 1943. Anybody who is not domiciled in the municipality has to pay a tourist tax. This can be paid either to the accommodation organisation itself or at one of our tourist offices and allows you to buy a PASS Saint-Bernard.

The tourist tax goes towards funding the tourist offices, entertainment in the resorts and the development of information brochures. As prescribed by the law, an accommodation tax must also be paid by your landlord in the Liddes and Bourg-St-Pierre municipalities*.
