INSIDE THIS ISSUE

As the Little League World Series recently came to an end, crowning the Red Land team from Lewisberry, Pa., the U.S. Champions, we continue to have baseball and sports in general on our minds. On this month’s cover, we highlight a recent sports card and memorabilia auction conducted by Heritage Auctions, which established several new records. One of the highlights was a circa 1860 Brooklyn Atlantics team baseball card selling for $179,250. Fast forwarding more than 100 years, the 1985 Super Bowl XX championship ring belonging to William “Refrigerator” Perry realized $203,150. In other trade news, the 45th edition of the “Overstreet Comic Price Guide” was recently published. This highly regarded comprehensive guide is considered a must-have for those involved in the specialized market of comics. To coincide with the upcoming papal visit to Philadelphia, the Rare Book Department at the Free Library of Philadelphia will host an exhibit titled “Sacred Stories” showcasing some of the world’s rarest religious texts from various religious traditions. Of course, there is much more, including information on several exciting shows, including Boxborough Paper Town. Until next month, enjoy!
