Water Is In Our Hands Drinking water comes from our faucets – but how does it get there? All of us learn about the water cycle in school, but does it mean we have an endless supply of water? When we look at water, it looks clean, but is it? And how do we really know how clean “clean” water actually is? Come join us for a four-week class and find answers to these water-related questions. Together we will define words like “watershed,” “aquifer,” “surface water,” and “groundwater.” We’ll explore how our daily choices impact the water around us. We’ll focus on our right to clean drinking water and explore the obligations of that right; it is “in our hands.” As a culminating activity, the class will decide on a field trip to an old growth forest or other watershed-related destination. Sponsored by Lincoln County Community Rights & Protect Oregon Watersheds. ProtectOregonWatersheds.org Wed., Feb. 28: Beyond the faucet: Where does your water come from? Through collaborative brainstorming, you’ll have the chance to pick your own fascinating subject (think crabs, flowers, trees, octopuses, birds, cats, plants...) right from our first class. To ensure a well-rounded grasp of mediums and techniques, we’ll delve into four key ones: cut paper, mark-making, texture, and collage. As we progress, each class will feature demonstrations centered around my personally chosen subject. I’ll showcase some of my completed pieces and delve into the creative journey behind them. Meanwhile, you’ll be crafting your own artwork, drawing inspiration from individually tailored themes developed between sessions two and four.

Piece Together Your Writing Puzzle You want to workshop your work -- essays, novels, articles, even poetry? This class is driven by memoir writing as the focus, but we can develop a specialized look at how to get your ideas and dream projects down on paper, or on the screen. Sometimes it takes a community to grow your writing and to encourage you “putting it all down.” We’ll look at memoir writing, but also develop better ways of expressing ourselves as interesting, engaged writers. Approaching April, we can also look at the power of the word in the form of poetry. However, we’ll focus on your memoirs: . . . “Inside each of us is a natural-born storyteller, waiting to be released.” . . . . “Memories too often die with their owner, and time too often surprises us by running out.”
