From Our Founder
“Take in the view,” my rock climbing guide encouraged me as I pulled myself up onto the rocky plateau and stopped to catch my breath. My team and I had just wrapped up our photoshoot for this lookbook in Joshua Tree, and I had decided to stay behind to rest, reflect, and rock climb. It was on the climb that I had an epiphany of sorts. Rock climbing is all about the journey—the next small cleft in the rock to hold your foot or the little shelf in the boulder to grip with your hand. It isn’t about making it to the top as much as it is about the path you take to get there. “The summit is arbitrary,” my guide kept telling me, and as I stood and gazed at the landscape below, I knew he was right. This season, I’m shifting my focus from end product to process. It’s the journey that matters as much as the destination, after all. And nothing illustrates this truth more profoundly for me than watching Artisans in Peru, Uganda, Ethiopia, and beyond craft our styles by hand. Handmade product means that every delicate bead, every dot of paint, and every careful stitch is placed with intention and purpose. My hope is that this season’s collection, set against the backdrop of the sunset-shades of Joshua Tree’s high desert, will call you into enjoying your journey with intention as well. Here’s to surrendering the summit—may we learn to enjoy the plateaus along the journey instead.

Our Ecuadorian accessories are crafted using responsibly harvested local seeds like pambil, acai, and tagua. The Artisans cut, polish, and dye the seeds to make unique, sustainable jewelry.
To create these unique beads, Ethiopian Artisans melt down artillery shells left over from former conflicts. Then, women emerging from vulnerable situations string the beads into elegant accessories.

To make our glass bead accessories, Guatemalan Artisans create their own bead looms using nails and planks of wood. The women enjoy gathering together to string the beads by hand.
