Meet Ajani. He lives in Fish and Greens Village. And meet his neighbours, the Great Apes of the African forest! Thanks to Head Ranger Tinka, Ajani is learning that these wonderful creatures are just like us - our hairy cousins..

But Ajani cares. He is determined to save the great apes as well as the people. But how can he soften the hearts and minds of hardened loggers and poachers? Wild animals, men with guns; the forest is full of danger for a heroic young junior ranger! love and protect their forest cousins, the Great Apes.

But to Ajani’s other neighbours, the villagers of Mudpound Valley, the apes are a nuisance. Bad farming has left the Mudpounders desperately poor. Unaware that their logging and snaring is turning the land into a desert and destroying the apes, they are too hungry and their chief too greedy to care.
