Danae Stokes,‘23 B.A. in Youth and Educational Ministries

As a Freshman, Danae Stokes faced an injury that inhibited her from playing volleyball and could have ruined her college experience. But Multnomah’s Christian community surrounded Danae in prayer and wise teachings. She soon discovered, in her own words, “I am a child of God, and that’s where I find my joy, through my relationship with Christ.” Danae was eventually able to return to volleyball while majoring in Youth and Educational Ministries and exploring new gifts like student leadership. At Multnomah, Danae learned that sports are one of many gifts God has given her to live a life of purpose.

Cultural Integration

The Multicultural Center

We Believe each person – with our unique ages, experiences, ethnicities – is created in the Imago Dei, the Image of God. Healthy relationships are important to Christ’s redemptive plan for the world and MU strives to be a community reflective of the diversity in the Kingdom of God.

Global Ministries Conference

The Multicultural Center exists to foster opportunities for underrepresented persons to feel a sense of belonging in our community and explore their authentic selves where safety, diversity, and God are honored.

Multnomah sets aside one week each spring semester to focus purely on Christian outreach locally and globally. During this week-long conference, students’ interface with Christian non-profit organizations and mission agencies both here in the North West and worldwide.

Mosaic Month

Mosaic Month is dedicated to sparking critical thinking and dialogue around issues of diversity, inclusion, cultural identity, and social justice on our campus.

Voices Scholars

The Voices Scholarship aims to develop and support students of color and their allies as inclusive leaders on the Multnomah University campus. Voices scholars receive coaching, mentoring, and staff support while gaining new leadership experience that informs campus-wide efforts toward cultural competence. multnomah.edu/multicultural-engagement 9

Your Beliefs Matter The world needs caring, well-equipped leaders who bear the love of Christ and are passionate about sharing it with others.

Students leave Multnomah ready to engage in God’s restorative work alongside their fellow graduates.

Your time at Multnomah will prepare you for the unprecedented, and teach resiliency and hope in a hurting world.

Let’s get to it, together, in God’s name.

How are Multnomah grads finding new ways to tell the ancient stories in the Bible? Jon Collins ‘03 and Tim Mackie ‘00 are co-founders of BibleProject, a crowdfunded project that produces media to help people everywhere experience the Bible as a unified story that leads to Jesus. While Collins and Mackie were BibleProject’s first MU grads, the organization has gone on to hire several Multnomah alumni. Kenzie Halbert-Howen ‘13, now serves as BibleProject’s Lead Editor.

When asked how her experiences at Multnomah helped prepare her for her role, she said “Multnomah gave me life-long friends, a work ethic that would carry me through graduate school, and a deep love for reading, writing, and the story of the Bible. The foundation I gained from my MU education is something I tap into every day at my job, and I’m incredibly grateful for my years spent on campus.” 11

Campus Life We Believe college should be fun. Really, really fun. And nobody does “fun” better than Multnomah.
