EVENTS 2015 Heritage Month Kick-Off Celebration with the City of Evanston and Latino Resources September 13, 2015; 1 - 6 p.m. Washington School Grounds, Main Street & Ashland Avenue, Evanston, IL

Join the City of Evanston and Latino Resources for the annual Heritage Month Celebration event with live music, dancing, food, and art. Admission is free, all are welcomed! Latin@ Heritage Month Game and Tailgate September 26, 2015; 3 - 7 p.m. Wildcat Alley (Behind Ryan Field)

Join Latino Alumni of Northwestern University (LANU) and NU Athletics as we celebrate Latin@ Heritage Month during the first night game of the year. Enjoy the first ever Wildcat Alley Tailgate complete with Taquiza, live performances, music, and giveaways from 3 - 7 p.m. Kickoff at 7:30 p.m. Open to all students, alumni, family, friends, and Chicagoland community. Access to the tailgate is free for all. Current students have free access to the game with valid Wildcard. Alumni, staff and community members can purchase game tickets starting at $15 by using promo code LANU at www. nusports.com/groups

Spanish Mini Courses

Mondays: October 5 – November 9, 2015; 6 - 7:30 p.m. Norris University Center Designed exclusively for students with no previous exposure to Spanish. With this course you’ll be speaking Spanish in no time! This beginner’s course covers the fundamental rules of the language in a fun, creative manner. $10 book fee is optional. Fee: $69 NU/ $79 Public. Program is sponsored by Norris Programming and Recreation.

One-Night Masterpiece: Frida Kahlo October 8, 2015; 8 - 10 p.m. Norris University Center

The Navigating Relationships workshop will address struggles you may experience in family relationships or friendships when returning home. We will also review how to strengthen your communication skills in order to maintain or develop healthy relationships in your life.


National Latino AIDS Awareness Day October 15, 2015 Location TBA

October 15 has been designated as National Latino AIDS Awareness Day (NLAAD). In 2003, NLAAD was established in response to the impact of HIV and AIDS on Hispanic/Latin@ communities nationwide. As part of Latin@ Heritage Month at Northwestern, MSA is launching an online campaign aimed at creating awareness around the issues of AIDS in the Latin@ community.

Festival LatiNU October 24, 2015; 6:30 p.m. Norris Center, Louis Room Festival LatiNU is the signature event for Latin@ Heritage Month Celebration. Alianza - the Hispanic/Latino Student Alliance - and Multicultural Student Affairs sponsor this free event, which features musical and dance performances from Northwestern student groups and Chicago area groups. The program also features cuisines from various Latin American countries.

Latin Cuisine Lunch at University Dining Halls October 27, 2015; 11 a.m. - 1 p.m. Sargent Dining Hall, Hinman Dining Hall, Allison Dining Hall

Northwestern Dining would like to invite the university community to enjoy some wonderful lunch cuisine in celebration of Latin@ Heritage Month.

Navigating NU: Financials, Academics and Everything in Between October 28, 2015; 6:30 - 7:30 p.m. Multicultural Center, 1936 Sheridan Road

This will be a casual panel event made up of Latino alumni who will share their experiences navigating different areas of life at NU: academic advising, financial aid, study abroad, etc. This event is sponsored by the Latino Alumni of Northwestern University (LANU). Beverages and snacks will be provided.


Latino Men’s Gatherings (Fall Quarter) Dates, Times and Locations Coming Soon

This is an open gathering of Latino men to hang out, meet each other and discuss informally what college life is like for Latino men. We will offer food and drink. Come as you are. This will be a safe space to gather and discuss topics that are relevant to you. These gatherings are a collaboration of Hispanic Latino Student Affairs and the Office of Religious & Spiritual Life.

Latina Space/NU Comadres Gatherings (Fall Quarter) Dates, Times and Locations Coming Soon

This is an open gathering of Latina women created to strengthen community, empower sisterhood and engage in healing dialogue. Our discussion topics change weekly. Snacks are provided. All are welcome! These gatherings are a collaboration of the Office of & Spiritual Religious Life and Multicultural Student Affairs.

Dia de los Muertos / Day of the Dead November 2, 2015

MSA observes this traditional holiday on November 2. By displaying an altar at the Multicultural Center and encouraging people to place items on the altar, the community honors departed family members or friends. Sheil Catholic Center also offers a bilingual mass on the Sunday closest to November 2, where the significance of El Dia de los Muertos is explained.
