Members of the Chamber are always welcome at The Chamber’s headquarters, the historic King Of Prussia Inn but many ask why is an appointment required? The reason is insurance. The historic 310 year old building has low head clearances and some uneven flooring and for those reasons guests must be escorted in the building much as you would in a private museum. Monday through Friday, 8:30 to 4:30 and can make arrangements by calling (610) 265-1776.
Chamber reservation
policy: Reservations for Chamber events are generally required two to three days before the actual event. They are required to allow for adequate food service, seating and scheduling. Payment is required at the time of registration and can be refunded up to The Chamber’s reservation deadline. ‘Walk-in’ attendance can not always be accommodated, especially when the catering is very specific. You can always reserve at www. montgomerycountychamber. org and members may reserve by calling (610) 2651776 or (610) 277-9500.

In that time, he has served as Chief Financial Officer of Liberty Resources, in Philadelphia; most recently, he was the Executive Director of Community Services at the Devereux Foundation.

At Devereux, Mr. Schultheis chose to focus on improving access to programs by improving outreach to families struggling to address the mental health concerns of their children. He also focused on expanding services to children with Autism Spectrum Disorders. By reaching out to underserved communities, Devereux was able to provide meaningful assistance in the lives of these children and their families. During his tenure, these programs were able to reach more than 2,000 families annually. Mr. Schultheis is also an Adjunct Professor at Drexel’s LeBow School of Business. Mr. Schultheis and his family reside in Ardmore, Pa.

Unique PA Program
Celebrating
Business! If you haven’t heard, there is a truly unique and wonderful program that has been operating in Pennsylvania for the past thirtyfive years designed to teach our high school students why “free enterprise” is key to the American way of life. Pennsylvania Free Enterprise Week (PFEW), internationally-acclaimed for its excellence, will graduate more than 2,000 students this coming summer with a vastly improved understanding about how free markets operate and what the challenges are that face all American companies, particularly those located in Pennsylvania.
Each summer, PFEW holds five, one-week individual sessions in July and August. The focus of the week is to group the participants (strangers at first) into “management teams” of senior executives who have inherited imaginary “companies.” These teams, under the guiding hands of an “executiveson-loan,” called Company Advisors, operate their firms for a computer-simulated three-year period of time. To add a sense of reality, they are competing against two other student “companies” manufacturing and distributing the same product. Each day’s activities include four to five presentations from world-class business people from a list that reads like who’s who in Pennsylvania. The students hear about: Business and Finance, the Role and Relationship of Business and Government, Taxation, Business Ethics, Labor Relations, and much, much more. Is it effective? ers on all of its promises 100%! It really was an indescribable honor to be a part of PFEW and I recommend it to any teenager, even if they aren’t interested in business. I will carry these memories forever!” The Chamber is proud to support PFEW to give our local students an eye-opening experience like Sarah described. We encourage our local companies and civic organizations to provide sponsorships for our students and, if possible, volunteers for the sessions. Every student attends PFEW on a fully taxdeductible $525 scholarship (the actual value of the scholarship exceeds $1,500) which is provided by a local firm. PFEW is also an approved organization through the PA Educational Improvement Tax Credit (EITC) program through the Department of Community and Economic Development. East norriton township The East Norriton Township Spring/Summer Newsletter and Recreation Brochure will be out to our residents in late March or early April. The newsletter will provide important information to our residents and information from each of the Township Departments on recently held and upcoming events. All residents receive a hard copy of this newsletter in the mail or you can contact the Township via their web site at info@eastnorritontwp.org to receive the newsletter in electronic format. Newsletters are published twice per year. Residents are also reminded that East Norriton Township has been utilizing Blackboard Connect for just over a year now to notify residents of emergencies, and upcoming public events. You can set up your own account through Blackboard Connect to manage how you want to receive your notifications (phone, e-mail or text) and to add or change phone numbers or add your e-mail account. A link to Blackboard Connect for East Norriton Township users is located on our home page of our web site, www.eastnorritontwp.org under the current Township Newsletter link. The site has been used for snow emergencies, road closures, and notification about upcoming Township programs and special events sponsored by the Township. Special Events planned for this spring and early summer include the East Norriton Township Annual Easter Egg Hunt on Friday April 18th, at Stanbridge Street Park. The 29th Annual Montgomery County Senior Games will again be held during May of 2014. The Senior Games are open to all Montgomery County residents over 50 years old. Games are held at specialized areas throughout Montgomery County. Please call the Recreation Department for additional information. The East Norriton Veterans Memorial located just off Germantown Pike between Old and New Stanbridge Street will again host a Wreath Laying Ceremony in observance of Memorial Day on Sunday May 25th at 1 p.m. A Flag Cremation Ceremony has also been scheduled at the Norris City Cemetery on Friday June 13th at 11 am. This is a good time to properly dispose of your old and tattered flags. Flags can be dropped off at the box located on the porch of the Municipal Building before June 13th. The 6th Annual Celebration 5K run will be held on Friday July 4th at the Norristown High School beginning at 8:30 a.m. This run is coordinated by East Norriton, West Norriton and Norristown Recreation Departments. Each year proceeds from the race are provided to an area organization. This year proceeds from the race will be provided to the Literacy Council of Norristown. Contact East Norriton, West Norriton or Norristown Recreation Department to get a registration form. Early registrations before May 1st is only $15. With the spring season upon us, East Norriton residents are reminded that they can install a second water meter (alternate meter) at their residence for lawn watering, car washing , filling pools etc. This meter would not be used for calculation in your upcoming sewer billing since this water doesn’t enter our sanitary sewer system. A plumbing permit is needed for this project. Please visit the Township web site at www.eastnorritontwp.org to obtain a plumbing permit. Residents are also reminded that a Special Spring Leaf Collection program will be scheduled from April 21st – May 2nd. This is call is service. Please check the web site to register and the rules for this special leaf collection. The East Norriton Police Department is again planning a “Coffee with the Cops” program on Saturday May 3rd from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. at the Dunkin Donuts at the Hillcrest Plaza Shopping Center. Stop out and enjoy a cup of coffee with your Township police officers.

The Plymouth Township’s Service and Devotion Monument located on the corner of Walton Road and Germantown Pike was dedicated on November 9th. Open to the public, over 300 people attended including donors, contributors and Plymouth Township’s Police, Fire and Ambulance personnel. George Gunning, Jr, a local veteran proposed the idea and provided the inspiration for this Washington DC worthy monument honoring the Army, Navy, Marines, Air Force, Coast Guard, Law Enforcement, Fire and Ambulance. There is a special area dedicated to fallen officer, Brad Fox. This was a true community project with in-kind services provided by several businesses. Plymouth Township would also like to thank everyone who donated and purchased bricks and pavers. We are still seeking monetary donations from businesses who are interested in becoming a supporter. In return for a donation, a laser etched granite plaque will be displayed prominently on the three-tiered donor wall. Individuals are also able to purchase bricks and pavers to honor a loved one who has served or to simply support the project. Three sizes are available, 4x8, 12x12 and 24x24 starting at $75. The pavers have the option for a logo for an additional charge. Available logos are Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines, Coast Guard and Plymouth Township Police, Ambulance, Fire and Harmonville Fire.

On a cold November day, Governor Tom Corbett visited the US 422 corridor to tout the successful passage of Act 89 on 2013, a comprehensive transportation funding bill that increases current annual PennDOT budget by $2.3 billion. by Dirk M. Simpson, Esquire Nearly 2.5 million Americans die each year, and many haven’t signed the basic documents needed to protect loved ones. But let’s say you took this important step. How often do you need to revisit your estate plan? Many experts agree that you should review your estate plan at least every five years – more often if there is a change in the law, your finances or personal circumstances. The following important developments may require action on your part: Becoming a parent. For many people, this is the first occasion for doing an estate plan. Most importantly, be sure you name a guardian for your children and provide for them financially in case something happens to you. Typically, a child is made the beneficiary of a trust created under a will rather than an outright beneficiary with the right to the asset at age 18. Becoming a grandparent. Make sure your will and any trusts that are part of your plan provide for your grandchildren if his or her parents died before you (assuming, of course that’s your intent). The same goes for assets that pass through beneficiary designations; in this regard, pay special attention to retirement accounts. Change in committed relationships. If you get married, divorced or split up, you should not procrastinate about changing your plan. This applies not only to your will or living trust, but also to assets that pass outside of these documents, such as retirement assets, life insurance and savings bonds, as well as jointly titled bank accounts, brokerage accounts and real estate.

A broker should confirm that the exclusive listing agreement complies with the Pennsylvania Real Estate Licensing Act. This Act provides that an exclusive listing agreement must contain certain provisions, such as the amount of the commission, the duration of the listing period and certain specific disclosure statements. This Act also includes certain restrictions, such as the listing period not being longer than one (1) year.
In addition, the listing agreement should indicate whether a commission will be payable in the event of a lease or sale to any existing tenants or occupants of the property, or to an affiliate of an owner of the property. In the event the owner previously engaged a different broker for the lease or sale of the property, the owner should be careful to exclude from the listing agreement any tenants or purchasers that the owner may have to pay a commission to the prior broker.
The terms of the deal between the owner and the broker should also be specifically set forth in the agreement. The parties should consider the following issues: (i) the length of the listing period; (ii) the amount of the commission; (iii) the timing of the payment of the commission; (iv) whether the commission should be paid if a lease or

Chair, Montgomery County Board of Commissioners Montgomery County is now on a solid foundation thanks to two years of extremely hard work with a laser-beam focus on addressing the challenges we faced when we took office. To be sure, we will feel the effects of some of the problems we inherited for years to come, Josh Shapiro, Chair but the bottom line is this—after just two years in office together we have fixed the county’s budget problems, reformed our government and changed the culture. I am mindful of the fact that home runs yesterday, don't win games today or tomorrow. Thanks to our collective work, we are now in a position to make the critical investments today and tomorrow to meet the needs of our people, our infrastructure, our environment and our avenues of commerce for years to come. Today I am pleased to announce the next phase of our agenda that will build on the foundation we’ve laid to build networks in six key areas. First, we will continue to focus on how to better deliver human services to our constituents. Community Connections has been a success, and soon we will expand the role and reach of our Navicate corps in new disciplines and new areas around the county. We will also announce exciting public-private and public-public partnerships to combat many of the social challenges our communities face and better partner with local hospitals and health care organizations. We are also interested in focusing on prisoner reentry programs that will reduce our recidivism rate by preparing incarcerated individuals for the workforce. Discussions in this area have already begun with a multidisciplinary approach including our Warden, Commerce officials, behavior health specialists and the District Attorney’s office. Through our Veterans' Affairs, Housing and Community Development and Commerce departments we plan to battle veteran homelessness and unemployment. Second, we assessed our infrastructure needs, budgeted for their repair and replacement, issued some RFPs and now will begin to see the fruits of that labor as parking garages, roads, bridges and historic sites benefit from our dedication of 96 cents of every capital dollar to meet the needs of our county-owned infrastructure. As we conclude the sale of some countyowned assets we will be reinvesting in those facilities we own to make them

more structurally sound, more energy efficient through the ground breaking ESCO initiative, and more welcoming to visitors and our employees. With Commissioner Richards continued activity in this area I am confident we will make dramatic strides. Third, we will redouble our efforts to ensure the safety and security of our 808,000 county residents and those who work in and visit our county by rolling out the emergency radio communications system to our law enforcement and first responders while investing in new and innovative methods and technologies to help protect our citizens. I am grateful to Commissioner Castor for his leadership in this area. Fourth, we will help sow the seeds to improve our local economy and create job opportunities in our county. When we took office there were multiple departments tasked with economic and workforce development. That model did not work, so we married them to eliminate the silo approach that actually stymied economic growth. We’ve spent the better part of the past year listening to business leaders tell us what they need from their county government to be successful, and we are now prepared to roll-out several exciting new initiatives aimed at assisting and attracting business.

Another hurdle to economic progress was the uncoordinated nature of the boards, both inside and outside of county government who had a hand in economic and workforce development, often leaving the left hand wondering what the right hand was doing. Shortly, we will announce an exciting new restructuring of those boards that will help propel Montgomery County to the front of the pack and in turn become a significant tool for local business. Fifth, we understand that one of the major reasons people choose to live in our county is because of the great quality of life we offer. From our schools to our diverse and vast housing stock, regardless of one’s age or family size, you can find what your are looking for in Montgomery County. Chief among the quality of life components are our trails, historic sites, parks and open spaces. This year, we will be announcing some significant trail extensions while we continue to improve existing parks and historic sites, preserve farmland and promote our agricultural strength as a county. Sixth, we will continue the hard work of reforming our government to make sure it is operating effectively and efficiently. This will include further internal refinements and more direct and helpful ways to communicate and collaborate with the public. I am exceedingly proud of our staff and members of the county family who have helped us reach this point of opportunity and look forward to this next phase of important work with my colleagues. Crossed Syndrome
A popular condition that we treat in our office is un-even hips. This is when the muscles around the hips are tighter in certain areas causing the pelvis to rock in an uncomfortable position. When this happens the muscles tighten and create a chain reaction down the entire leg, which is called Lower Crossed Syndrome. Let’s go into detail with more specific examples and muscle groups.
Now that you have seen both sides of the spectrum lets simplify this and break down the muscle groups. There are four muscle groups, which include the following: 1. Abdominal 2. Erector Spinae

and the illiopsoas and the Erector Spinae are tight we get what’s called an Anterior Pelvic Tilt. This basically means that one side of the pelvis is rocked forward. When the exact opposite happens it’s called Posterior Pelvic Tilt as seen below.
The two examples that we like to use in our office are J-Lo and Paris Hilton. From the pictures below you can see a very pronounced arch in J-Los lower back, while Paris Hilton does not have an arch at all. This is
because specific muscle groups are tighter and weaker giving these dramatic effects.

MISSION KIDS: We Do...
What
Imagine what it is like to be a child immersed in a frightening world through no fault of your own, but because you have been the victim of child abuse. In communities without a Child Advocacy Center like Mission Kids, when a child is abused and finally finds the courage to tell someone about it, he/she is required to participate in multiple interviews, in places like police departments, each time reliving the horrors of the abuse. This process causes unnecessary trauma to many children, making it impossible for them to find the strength to testify in court. Child abusers may go free when their victims cannot testify. Mission Kids provides a center for the team investigation of child abuse cases. Child abuse victims are interviewed in a childfriendly setting, by a specially trained forensic interviewer. The interviews are conducted in a manner that is legally sound, neutral, fact-finding, and coordinated to avoid repeated interviews and trauma to the child. Representatives of the DA’s Office, law enforcement and social services work together as a multidisciplinary team and observe, but do not participate in the interview as it takes place, thereby reducing the number of interviews a child victim must undergo. This team approach supports and protects children throughout the legal process, preserving their physical and emotional well-being. The investigation process is compassionate, with respect and well-being of the child of the utmost importance. In 2013 alone, Mission Kids provided over 400 Forensic Interviews to victims of alleged
sexual and severe physical abuse. Even after the Forensic Interview, Mission Kids continues to support the children and families it serves through its Victim Advocacy Program. The program provides victims and their non-offending caregivers with the support, information and community resources they need. Mission Kids’ Victim Advocates assist the families in scheduling medical and mental health evaluations. Children's Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP) has partnered with MK to open a nearby clinic, specializing in child abuse. This alleviates the need for victims to travel downtown in order to receive nationally recognized medical care and improves access to more efficient delivery of the medical services required by abused children. Education and community outreach are the cornerstones of prevention of child abuse. Mission Kids is committed to reaching out to the diverse communities in Montgomery County to educate them about the signs of child abuse and how to protect children. By growing and expanding our educational outreach services, Mission Kids is working to empower local communities to recognize, report, and support victims of child abuse. Community support is crucial to Mission Kids’ continued success as we continue to provide healing and hope to the children and families we serve everyday. Captains Curtis and Felicia Flora join Norristown Corps They came to their calling from different directions.
For Captain Curtis Flora, it began when he stopped by The Salvation Army Corps Community Center in Montclair, New Jersey for a voucher to fill an expensive prescription for medicine he badly needed. He’d been surprised to learn he could find help there. “My knowledge of the Army?” he said. “Soup kitchens and hand-me-down clothes.” In the waiting room, Curtis leafed through a copy of Priority magazine, taken aback at the number of testimonials. He struck up a conversation with the receptionist. “I asked her what The Salvation Army was all about, and she replied, ‘We are a church!’” ‘’’What do you mean a church? I said. ‘Yes, we’re a Christ-believing church.’ “And I said, ‘No way!’”Curtis recalled. Even though he’d grow up a block away from a corps in nearby East Orange, he hadn’t realized the Army was a church. “And then I heard the Lord say, ‘You’re not here for a prescription voucher.’”

That was not the only surprise in the waiting room that day. While preparing the voucher, volunteer Tina Zazarino had been eyeing him closely. “Are you an ordained minister?” she asked. He was. He was also a professional photographer, teacher of Christian education at a local Christian School and volunteer in the boys’ club program at his Pentecostal church. The East Orange Corps, Tina told him, had been looking for a youth minister for two years. In a remarkable act of Providence, Curtis visited the corps and was offered the job. He talked it over with his wife, Felicia. “I think we’ve been called to The Salvation Army,” Curtis told her. She replied fervently, ‘You’re not taking me to a homeless shelter.’” “I was leery,” she said. An x-ray technician and office manager at her brother’s dental practice, Felicia considered the idea. After a 21-day fast, she said told Curtis, “As Sarah said to Abraham, go my Lord and do unto Him as you have said. In 2000, with their four children, the Floras went to work. Before their first Sunday as youth pastors, they canvassed the neighborhood, sharing information about the youth ministry. On Sunday morning, 60 children came to Sunday school and the Holiness Meeting. For the Floras as for so many, Sept. 11, 2001 was a watershed moment. A dozen miles from Manhattan, the East Orange Corps was fully engaged in emergency response. Rolling up their sleeves side-by-side with officers and volunteers, Curtis and Felicia helped to provide food, clothing, and supplies to firefighters and police officers “giving them a second wind to go back out to the trenches, saving lives as The Lord gave them strength,” Felicia said. “At that point, I fell completely in love with the Army and what they are called to do.”
When the Floras elected to become Army officers, it only got better. Trained, commissioned officers supervise the operations of The Salvation Army, and candidates undergo a two-year course in residence at Salvation Army colleges. When Curtis and Felicia arrived at the College for Officer Training in Suffern, NY, “I walked in and felt like I was home,” she said. “They strip you of all you were taught biblically and then build you up by teaching and learning what the Bible truly says. My life had begun and ministry was set in motion. The Lord had opened the way for us.” Two years later, the Floras were commissioned as Captains, ordained as ministers and assigned to active duty at Newark, New Jersey’s Westside Corps Community Center, not far from home. From the first, it was a revelation. “When you come out of training school, you’re standing tall and your uniform is crisp. We said to ourselves ‘We have arrived!’” Curtis said. “Then, on our first Sunday morning, we unlocked the door to the church and there was an inch of water all over the floor.” The bathroom had flooded. “We had to take off those crisp uniforms and mop up in time for the 11 o’clock service,” he continued. “The Lord brought us back to reality. Servants of The Lord were humbled once again.” “We realized at that moment there was nothing we won’t do to serve God and our people,” Felicia added. Their six years in Newark, one of the poorest cities in the country, were challenging ones. After that, their assignment in Wilmington, Delaware, proved to be restorative, in no small measure because they could devote their full time to the ministry rather than juggle administrative responsibilities.

In August, the Floras came to their newest appointment: Norristown, PA. The people in their Church Corps “immediately drew us in,” Felicia said. “They were so nice, so receptive. Spiritually, they knew we were coming, someone sound in the word and loving in spirit. We find that they desire the Word of God, to know more about Christ.” Among the Floras’ priorities is to bring the Corps community more closely together and “assemble this building as one. God is our head, and we are here to serve him as a unit, not divided.” Felicia said, “We’re all working toward the same goal.” Addressing hunger is another priority. “We believe in feeding everyone,’ Felicia said. The Norristown Corps maintains a food pantry, and the Floras hope to introduce a soup kitchen as well as family lunch one Sunday each month. They will also join families every month for dinner in the Norristown shelter. “We want to make it feel like home,” Felicia said. “The families here already feel displaced, so we have a responsibility to make their stay here as pleasant as possible.” The Floras were the first African-American officers to serve in both Wilmington and Norristown. Minority representation is important, they agree, because so many people the Army serves are multiracial and multicultural. Those who come to the corps “see that God’s leaders come from diverse cultures, even their own,” Curtis said. And wherever they are—Newark, Wilmington, or Norristown—they are home. “We always like to say we’re in the best place we could be,” said Curtis. “Wherever we are, we’re at home, here to serve God and His people.” (Submitted Copy; Contact crafanello@localpagespublishing.com)
