SERVANTS OF THE MIST

Floridian doom/sludge metalheads Servants of the Mist are bringing on the table their selfreleased EP, Gross Knowledge of Genital Mutilation. This digital only available EP is the followup to 2013 Suicide Sex Pact EP. It features two dense compositions (Undeserving and the title track, respectively) filled with dark depressive atmospheres. The EP is completed by samples of harsh speeches and a cover version of GG Allin's song, Commit Suicide (great song from the Freaks, Faggots, Drunks, and Junkies album). Their own tracks crawl along for their expansive duration but don’t get the whole package boring. In these very slowpaced songs, the guitar lines are simple but have an intense presence in the sound while sorrowful and surprisingly warm lead guitar melodies harmonize well with the slow, ponderous rhythmic motion. The vocals are both shrieky and growly and are delivered in a sincere, anguished tone. The drums, obviously, are pretty on damn slow tempos, but the finess that they are played with adds a lot to these tracks. Overall, Servants of the Mist made a good release, and if you like slow, down tuned and simply heavy riffs, you will almost certainly appreciate this material.
