Finnish death metal band Apocryfal have returned with their first release since debut demo in early 2012. Aberration of Mind is the title of their second recording. This EP has an aggressive and raw death metal core, blended with some black metal touches. The playing is primarly fast and relentless. The blastbeats have a strong presence and are quite fast, but there are some somewhat groovy parts here and there that serve to add an air of melancholy to the music. The guitars do not sound overly complex, but they deliver solid riffs that flow nicely with the blastbeat tempo. Even if the music has a bit of a generic sound to it at certain points, is always enjoyable the way it is presented. Their sound may lacks for originality but the song structures turned out to be well thought. In addition, Aberration of Mind was mastered by Mr. Dan Swano that provided a good and professional sound quality to the EP. Those searching for technical riffs and experimentation should go ahead and pass this up 'cause this is a (good) straightforward death metal record with some solid hooks. APOCRYFAL
