BLOODSOAKED

Bloodsoaked is a North Carolina based death metal band formed in 2006 by Peter Hasselbrack. For three studio album it was a one man band, with Mr. Hasselbrack who handled all the instruments and songwriting. In 2012, Peter added Joseph Darling as second guitarist/vocalist, and as a duo they recorded Religious Apocalypse in 2014, an EP that features three brand new tracks plus a couple of covers taken from hairmetal (!?) bands (Cinderella’s Shake Me and Ratt’s You’re in Love, respectively), and some live tunes. The new songs flow well and are dished with so typical oldschool death metal vibe that you can get into these tracks quickly. The playing is fast and relentless, and the arrangements are total death metal to the bone, without much compromise. The drums were programmed and they turned out slightly pedestrian, based only on one of two drumming formula throughout, blast beats and hammering double bass. The lyrics are basic, with choruses that are usually the track name growled over and over. The cover tracks are decent, but nothing special. The four live tracks lack the intensity of the studio effort. Overall, Religious Apocalypse is a good death metal EP with the new tracks that stand powerful in their dynamics, but interspersed amongst (cover and live) filler tunes.
