President Benigno Aquino III on Thursday does not favor the divorce bill being pushed through by the Gabriela party-list group, but said he was for legally separated couples to be allowed to remarry. “Divorce is a no-no,’’ Aquino told re porters after attending an international motor show at the World Trade Center in Pasay City. The President volunteered he had looked into the divorce proposal but remained mum concerning his youngest sister Kris Aquino-Yap, to have her five-year marriage with basketball player James Yap nullified. Aquino said he did not want to give any opinion on his sister’s petition to nul lity her marriage as this might influence the “workings of the court’’ and even the Office of the Solicitor General, which is under his office. The 50-year-old bachelor President said he was particularly against the idea of Las Vegas-style divorces “where you marry in the morning, and get a divorce in theButafternoon.’’hesaid he also recognized there were “unions that were wrong’’ and cou ples who, despite interventions, could not stay Thetogether.President said he was for legal separation “that would use stringent (re quirements) to ascertain there are irrec oncilable differences (between a cou ple)... but at the end of the day, they should be allowed to re-marry.’’ We have legal separation today (but they) cant’ marry. Kawawa naman yung mga nag kamali (Pity those who made a mistake),” he added.

Data from the MECO shows that cu mulatively the number of OFWs in Taiwan now totals 70,537 from around 61,000 in the same period in 2008. The Philippines is the fourth largest source of foreign employers in Taiwan. At its peak in the 1990s, Taiwan had about 120,000 OFWs here but competition from countries like Vietnam, Indonesia and Thailand slowly eroded the Philip pines’ share in the Taiwanese market. Conferido said the new stimulus package of the Taiwanese government would open jobs in infrastructure and short-gestating rehabilitation work.

But Principal Magistrate Ernest Lin grant ed the application after two guarantors, Hong Kong residents Derrick Wong and Annie Shek, agreed to secure a cash surety bond. Singson is not allowed to leave Hong Kong and has to surrender his travel papers, including his diplomatic passport, by 5 p.m. Friday. While on bail, he will stay with Wong in the latter’s flat in Sai Wan Ho, and is re quired to report to the North Point police station from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. daily. He is also expected to show up on time for his trial at the district court on Sept. 7. Marikina Rep. Romero Federico Quimbo, who attended the hearing on Speaker Feliciano Belmonte Jr.’s instruc tion, said recent findings that Singson car ried a smaller volume of cocaine than earlier reported had prompted the court to grant his motion for bail and amend the charge from drug trafficking to illegal possession.Areexamination by Hong Kong authori ties showed that Singson had 6.7 grams of cocaine, and not 26.1 grams, as earlier re ported, according to Quimbo. “That’s the reason he was granted temporary liberty,” Quimbo told the In quirer in an interview by phone. Singson’s father, Ilocos Sur Gov. Chavit Singson, and his girlfriend, starlet Lovi Poe, were present at the hearing for his motion for bail.

Liezl Sicangco, the former wife of Pa dilla —and mother of Roselle Eliza beth, Kylie Nicole, Sherileen Zel and Ali— is alleging that Rod riguez is the reason “hindi na nagpapakita si Robin kay Ali. Sana, kung hindi na niya [Pa dilla] maalagaan ang aming mga anak, e, ibalik na lang niya ito sa akin dito sa Aus “Actually, tralia. wala naman akong pakialam kay Mariel kasi may sarili siyang buhay. Ang concern ko lang naman, e, ang ka lagayan ng aming anak, lalo na si Ali dahil napa kabata pa niya,” Liezl was quoted as saying in an article posted in Philippine Entertainment Portal. According to Liezl, it has been six weeks since Padilla last visited his son, who had been crying when he last talked to his mom on the phone. She also insinuated that Padilla has been teaching Ali lessons on how to handle girls. “As of this early, e, tinuturuan na niyang mambabae ang anak ko. Tapos, sinasabi pa niya sa bata na dapat, e, magka roon din ito ng apat na asawa paglaki. Hindi ko gusto ‘yon, da hil napakabata pa ni Ali para sa mga bagay na ‘yan,” said she. Sicangco said that she only agreed for Padilla to bring their kids to the Philippines after he promised her that he will take good care of them. “Sabi sa akin noon ni Robin bago sila umalis ng Australia, hindi raw muna siya mag-aasawa agad para maasikaso niya ang mga bata pero iba na ang nangyari ngayon. Paano nga niya maaasikaso ang mga bata, lalo na si Ali, kung nakatutok siya ngayon at gusto na niyang pakasalan si Mariel?” Sicangco asked. The distraught mother is now appealing for Padilla to return the kids to her care. Robin refused to comment on the is sue. Mariel, through text, responded on the matter following a query by an online site. She said, “Ms. Liezel can say any thing that she likes. That’s her right, as free men, we have to respect each other’s views. As a mother, she must protect her children. Totally understandable...”

Charlie suc cumbed to co lon cancer on August 8 at the age of 75. He was laid to rest on the morning of August 13 at the Heritage Park in Taguig City. Boots Anson-Roa mentioned, how ever, that Charlie Davao had quite a sense of humor, which belied his strong Spanish features and serious screen roles throughout his career.

By NEIL RAMOS

"Charlie was very playful and ma hilig mang-good time," recalled Boots, whose broadcaster husband Pete Roa died of cancer on August 9, 2007. Ricky Davao wept during the memo rial mass and eulogies celebrating the life of his father that evening. "Underneath that strict exterior, he was a fun-loving family man," Ricky recalled nostalgically. As a good-looking youth from Iloilo, the former University of the East (UE) stu dent and part-time print-ad model was eager to become a movie star. He au ditioned upon learning that Sampaguita Pictures was on the lookout for new talents. His showbiz debut was in 1959 via the film Isinumpa. Charlie was particularly proud of his Agent 009 role in the 1965 action flick, Pitong Matahari. A slew of films followed, establishing Charlie Davao  as one of the country's versatile actors. Charlie's first marriage was in 1959 with a Spanish-language professor named Emma Marie. Their union was blessed with four children: Bing, Ricky, Mylene (who died in an accident when she was only five), and Mariella.

Love is the greatest gift of all gifts from God to us all. In this series, we will look at the different char acteristics or qualities of love. We will start with the quality of love called kindness. We say love is kind because it is not harsh, cruel, inhuman, bitter, ill condi tioned, ferocious, or brutal. Kindness is caring, benevolent, charitable, good in tentioned, sympathetic, compassionate, or accommodating.Ireadaboutthe story of Roy Angel who was a poor preacher with a mil lionaire brother. It was back in 40’s when the brother hit it big in Texas owning a property and sold it and became a mil lionaire overnight. He got it big also in the stocks and move to New York. Roy’s wealthy brother visited him one Christ mas and presented him with a new cara gleaming top of the line Packard. Roy kept it in a garage downtown. Roy was surprised one morning when he came to get his Packard. He saw a young raga muffin ghetto boy with his face pressed up against one of the car windows. He was just peering into the new car’s interior with wide admiring eyes. “Hello Son” Roy said. The boy said, “Is this your car mis ter?” “Yes” Roy replied, “It is” “How much does it cost?” “Well I don’t really know how much it cost” “You mean, you own this car and you don’t know its cost?” No, I don’t because my brother gave it to me as a present.” At this the boy’s eyes grew even wider. The boy thought for a moment…saying, “I wish, I wish...” Roy thought the boy will say, “I wish I had a brother like that. But he didn’t. The boy looked up to him and said, “I wish I could be a brother like that.” He invited the boy to ride in his car and the boy readily agreed and asks if Roy could take him by his house. When they got there, the boy asked if he could wait just for a minute. When the boy got back, he saw the boy carrying a younger brother. The boy sat his brother on the curb and said, “See?” It’s just like I told you. It’s a brand new car. His brother gave it to him and someday, “I’m going to buy you a car just like that!” What impressed you in that story? It wasn’t the millionaire’s gift that impressed us. It was the desire of the boy who dreams of the impossible prosperity so he can lavish it on his brother. That’s kindness! That’s the character of love. Kindness responds to the needs of oth ers. Kindness tends to exhibit generosity, not stoned hearted or cruelty when others are in need. This is what John means in the Holy Scriptures ( 1 John 3:17) when he said, “But if anyone has the world’s goods and sees his brother in need, yet closes his heart against him, how does God’s love abide in him? “ In fact God rewards those who are generous to those in need. This is what King Solomon in Proverbs 19; 17 meant, when he said, “Whoever is generous to the poor lends to the Lord, and he will re pay him for his deed.” What it means is if you develop kindness to others by being generous, God sees that as something He owes you. In time, God will pay you back more than you ever know.

of EEC's valued

Kindness is not blind but sees and ac cept the faults of others as St. Peter (1 Pe ters 4:8) says, “Above all, keep loving one another earnestly (deeply), since love covers a multitude of sins.” It does not mean you agree with the sin, it means you don’t treat people harshly when they make mistakes or offend you. You don’t become ferocious against them. You show kindness to those who are unkind to you.  Love does not erase the past, but it makes the future different. We create an emotional climate where we can deal with our past conflicts. The same insight we get from the Apostle Paul in Romans 12: 20-21, “If your enemy is hungry, feed him; if he is thirsty, give him something to drink. In doing this, you will heap burning coals on his head.” Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.” If you want the gift of love from God with all its qualities to be yours, simply invite His beloved Son, Jesus Christ to come in your life. God’s gift of love is in him. He suf fered for your sins by dying on the cross. Let him in to your heart now by praying this prayer, “Lord Jesus Christ, I invite you into my heart and life right now. I turn away from my unloving sinful life. Forgive me and let your love take reign in my life. Amen.”

Matapos ang pagdinig, naging matipid si Kris sa naging kanyang pahayag: “It’s a compromise agreement na pina sok namin with the interest of our son.  Siguro, that’s the only thing I can say right now be cause the judge admonished us to not share what we spoke of with the judge privately.

there’s no denying that ABS-CBN also boasts of brilliant and unforgettable movies in this genre such as Patayin sa Sindak si Barbara, Feng Shui and the unjustly under rated Wag Kang Lilingon to name a few Star Cinema is once again gambling on its latest offer Cinco. Is it going to tick or not? Signs are pointing positively as the film’s de vices might serve to lure the viewers. Fans will surely feast on an army of celebrities doing cameo roles along with the original cast. New breed of directors behind the film offer unconventional perspective. Horror fanatics will surely have more than what they can imagine with the film’s use of 5 episodes instead of the typical trilogy. The five episodes are: Braso starring AJ Perez, Sam Concepcion and Robi Do mingo as fraternity neophytes challenged to stay in a morgue as part of their initiation rites, this episode sadly is a weak opening for the film. Paa, the second episode directed by Enrico Santos, starring Jodi Sta. Maria, the mother who is being haunted by a vengeful ghost. Mata, the third episode by Director Ato Bautista, which stars Maja Salvador is the girlfriend of an ill-tempered guy (Rayver Cruz) who at first refused to confess her boyfriend’s crime to the police, making her relive (or dream, it wasn’t really clear) the kill ing scenario over and over again. Mukha, the third episode Mariel Rodriguez is a ruthless, screaming advertising boss who fires the janitor for, of all things, a bad photocopy job. This factor will latter be explained by the frightening use of the copying machine and freaky photocopies of the janitor’s face in the part where Mariel’s character gets herself screaming and running scared out of her Hatingwits.

“Ang sinabi sa amin dito ng judge, and I think klarong-klaro naman sa aming dalawa, ang utmost priority naming talaga is ‘yong wellbeing ng anak namin. Ibinahagi rin ni Atty. Kapunan ang mga detalye ng naging resolution para sa Motion for Provisional Award of Visitation Rights na inihain ni James. Ayon kay Atty. Kapag Wednesday at may games, puwe deng dalhin sa games.  On Friday, overnight up to Saturday.” The Department of Health (DOH) warned that Dengue cases could reach a record-high 80,000 this year. The DOH recorded 40,648 dengue cases from January-July 2010, up 48% from 27,473 in the same period last year. Some hospitals in response to the threat have already set up express lanes in for dengue patients such as the East Avenue Medical Center and San Lazaro Hospital.Onthe same note, the Department of Health (DOH) said trends have changed and dengue is no longer just a "rainy season disease" as cases are being reported nationwide throughout the year.DOH Head Executive Assistant Dr. Yolanda Oliveros added that the DOH is closely watching the dengue fatality rate to make sure it does not double in the coming months. Oliveros said the dengue Case Fatality Rate (CFR) should not be higher than one percent of the total number of dengue cases. The CFR has now reached 328 or .8 percent of the total number of dengue cases in the country which stands at 40,648 as of July 31 this year. Highest number of dengue cases During the first seven months of this year, when the country's highest number of dengue cases has been recorded, six regions have already recorded death rates that are higher than one percent: Regions I, II, IV-B, VII, X and Autonomous Region of Muslim Mindanao (ARMM). In the National Capital Region (NCR), five municipalities have CFRs that are higher than one percent: Marikina, Navotas, Quezon City, Taguig, and QuezonValenzuela.City, which has the most number of fatalities at 10, has a CFR of 1.3 percent. Valenzuela has the highest CFR at 1.8 percent: out of 221 dengue cases in the area, four patients have died of the Oliverosdisease.reminded the public that the most cost-effective way to fight dengue is to keep the surroundings clean. "DOH reminds people to 'search and Lookdestroy.'for the breeding place of mosquitoes and try to destroy it. That entails household and community participation."

OFWs immediately welcomed the Big J Store when it first opened back in 1992. It was a haven for Filipinos who were far from their love ones; it is a place where they can meet and bond with fellow Fili pinos. Big J Store offers remittance and cargo service as well as Filipino prod ucts. He even provides delivery and pickup of boxes, remittances and goods for Filipinos who cannot go out. Big J also opens his restaurant during Sundays and Holidays so that Filipinos in Ilan can gath er to eat, sing and enjoy their free time. Suffice it to say that Big J is the pioneer of Filipino Stores in Ilan which caters to OFWs from Chiao Xi, Su Ao, Luo Dong and Hua lian. His services for OFWs in Ilan who comprised of domestic helpers and fishermen go as far as from Ao Ti to Li San area.Currently, Big J is the President of the Filipino Community in Ilan and his group is very active in joining social events such as the Philippine Independence Day. Big J is also active in extending help to his fellow Filipinos who needs his assistance. It is no wonder that he is quite popular in the Filipino Community in Taiwan. However, due to the recent decline of the numbers of OCW’s in Taiwan, Big J cannot help but express his disappoint ment, but despite of this obstacle he’s still able to maintain his business and continually provides services to Filipinos in Ilan.

The Big J of Ilan

Mr. Johnny Si was born in Bag gao, Cagayan on March 8, 1943. Johnny Si is most popu larly known as Big J since his birthday falls on the same day as Jaworski. Before he came to Taiwan he owned a garment factory in the Philippines and was also a general manager of an export business at the same time. But sadly, Mr. Si’s fam ily business encountered some problems and Big J decided to try his luck in an otherBigcountry.Jwas set to go to South Africa but due to diplomatic ties between the said country and the Philippines he has to stop over in Taiwan to wait for his visa. Big J arrived in Taiwan in 1989 and eventually discarded his plans of going to South Africa when he was persuaded by a Taiwanese friend to open up the Filipino Store with him in Luo Dong, Ilan. But partnership is not his cup of tea so he eventually put up a smaller business but entirely his own.
