PNoy 100 Days Continued from Page 8 Pres. Aquino's first 100 days message

“We have been on full alert since Saturday night. We will be setting up security assistance desks in all voting centers to ensure honest, orderly and peaceful elections,” Cruz said.

25 dead in run-up to Philippines village polls: police At least 25 people have been killed in violence related to upcoming village-level elections in the Philippines, the na tional police said Sunday. It came as police imposed tight security for Monday’s elections in which Filipinos will vote for district chairmen and council members in the nation’s 42,000 villages, said police spokesman Senior Superintend ent Agrimero Cruz. Police records show 25 people had been killed and 10 wounded in election-related violence since the campaign period began on September 25, he told reporters.

President Benigno Aquino III announced that he signed a proclamation granting amnesty to rebel soldiers and officers linked to military uprisings in 2003 and 2006. The grant of amnes ty, under Proclamation 50, covers all active and former personnel of the Armed Forces of the Philippines as well as their supporters who took part in the July 27, 2003 Oakwood mutiny, the Febru ary 2006 Marine standoff and the Nov. 29, 2007 Manila Peninusla siege and related incidents.

At marami pong magan dang balita ukol dito.

Inamin ng actor na they have a special relationship sa loob ng 4 years, they have shared very happy moments together.

I can go back to (General Santos City). I can give this all up, huwag lang ‘yon.”

Magandang umaga sa lahat. available: NT3,000 only availableAlsoinblack

H alloween originated 2000 years ago from a harvest festival from the Ancient Celts who celebrates the end of summer. The Celts be lieved that the transitional time before the dark winter was a time when the worlds of the living and dead comes together. During the era when the Romans conquered the Celts they contributed in joining two more festivals; Feralia, paying respects to the dead and Pomona, a day honoring the goddess of fruits and trees. As Christianity spread, Pope Boniface IV replaced the celebration with All Saints’ Day on November 1. This day of honoring saints was later followed by All Souls' Day, which honored the dead. All Saints' Day, still celebrated today, was known as All-hallowmas in medieval times. The night before the feast was called All Hallows' Even or, in an Irish con traction, Hallow E'en. It was the Europeans who introduce these cus toms to the Americans, this led to the Americanized Halloween that developed from many different cul tures. It was celebrated with a festival of dancing, singing, fortune and story telling especially of ghost stories. The adaptation of the dressing costumes and giving treats such as goodies and candies came from the Irish and English early settlers. Now we have the parades and various celebrations. To avoid being played on tricks, the families began giving children "treats" and by the 1950s, Halloween had turned into a children's holiday. How did the jack-o'-lantern came about It was also the Irish who introduced to the world the carving of turnip lantern. These lanterns were left on the door step to ward off evil spirits. They be lieved that without the offering, the evil spirit might play some tricks to their fields and live stocks. this tradition was brought to the USA, they substituted the turnip to a pumpkin since it is read ily available in the states. They cut the head of the pumpkin, carved a monstrous face and place lighted aroundcelebrationDaytheworld

Dwight L. Moody once told the fable of an eagle that was envious of another that could fly better than he could. One day the bird saw a sportsman with a bow and arrow and said to him, "I wish you would bring down that eagle up there." The man said he would if he had some feathers for his arrow. So the jealous ea gle pulled one out of his wing. The arrow was shot, but it didn't quite reach the rival bird because he was flying too high. The first eagle pulled out another feather, then another--until he had lost so many that he himself couldn't fly. The archer took ad vantage of the situation, turned around, and killed the helpless bird. Moody made this application: if you are envious of oth ers, the one you will hurt the most by your actions will be yourself. In order to combat jealousy, we need to become more like Jesus and less like ourselves. We can get to know Him through Bible study, prayer, and fellow ship with mature believers. As we learn how to serve others instead of ourselves, our hearts will begin to change. The Apos tle Paul says, “Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be trans formed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God's will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will” (Romans 12:2).

In the story of a THE WINDOW by Eric Ferguson, he related about two men, both seriously ill, occupied the same hospital room. One man was al lowed to sit up in his bed for an hour each afternoon to help drain the fluid from his lungs. His bed was next to the room’s only window. The other man had to spend all his time flat on his back. The men talked for hours on end. They spoke of their wives and families, their homes, their jobs, their involvement in the mili tary service, where they had been on vacation. And every afternoon when the man in the bed by the window could sit up, he would pass the time by describ ing to his room-mate all the things he could see outside the window. The man in the other bed began to live for those one-hour periods where his world would be broadened and enlivened by all the activity and color of the world outside. The window overlooked a park with a lovely lake. Ducks and swans played on the water while children sailed their model boats. Young lovers walked arm in arm amidst flowers of every color of the rainbow. Grand old trees graced the landscape, and a fine view of the city skyline could be seen in the distance. As the man by the window described all this in exquisite detail, the man on the other side of the room would close his eyes and imagine the picturesque scene.

One warm afternoon the man by the window described a parade passing by. Although the other man couldn’t hear the band he could see it in his mind’s eye as the gentleman by the window por trayed it with descriptive words. Then unexpectedly, a sinister thought entered his mind. Why should the other man alone experience all the pleasures of seeing everything while he himself never got to see anything? It didn’t seem fair. At first thought the man felt ashamed. But as the days passed and he missed seeing more sights, his envy eroded into resentment and soon turned him sour. He began to brood and he found himself unable to sleep. He should be by that window that thought, and only that thought now controlled his life. Late one night as he lay staring at the ceil ing, the man by the window began to cough. He was choking on the fluid in his lungs. The other man watched in the dimly lit room as the struggling man by the window groped for the button to call for help. Listening from across the room he never, pushed his own button which would have brought the nurse running in. In less than five minutes the coughing and choking stopped, along with that the sound of breathing. Now there was only silence deathly silence. The following morning the day nurse arrived to bring water for their baths. When she found the lifeless body of the man by the win dow, she was saddened and called the hospital attendants to take it away. As soon as it seemed appropriate, the other man asked if he could be moved next to the window. The nurse was happy to make the switch, and after making sure he was comfortable, she left him alone. Slowly, painfully, he propped himself up on one elbow to take his first look at the world outside. Finally, he would have the joy of seeing it all himself. He strained to slowly turn to look out the window be side the bed.

In the book, Landmines in the Path of the Believer: Avoiding the Hid den Dangers by Charles F. Stanley, He said…“When we use the word “jealous,” we use it in a sense of being envious of someone who has something we do not have. This kind of jealousy is a sin and is not characteristic of love; rather, it shows that we are still being controlled by our own desires (1 Corinthians 3:3). The Bible in the book to the Galatians 5:26 says, “Let us not become conceited, provoking and envying each other.”

The more we focus on ourselves and our own desires, the less we are able to focus on God. When we harden our hearts to the truth, we cannot turn to Jesus and allow Him to heal us (Matthew 13:15). But when we allow the Holy Spirit to control us, He will produce in us the fruit of our salvation, which is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control (Galatians 5:22-23). Being jealous indicates that we are not satisfied with what God has given us. The Bible tells us to be content with what we have, for God will never fail or for sake us (Hebrews 13:5).

November 201018 N W On SpotlightO The seminar last October 10, 2010 was the general introduction for all the last batch of skills training programs for the year 2010 at the Ugnayan Migrants and Immigrant Center at Taipei entitled "Values ReOrientation and Financial Literacy Forum". It was organized and delivered by the Department of Labor and Employment and its attached agency Overseas Workers' Welfare Administration, together with the Manila Economic and Cultural Office. And it was sponsored by the Pag-IBIG Fund and the Social Security System. Land Bank of the Philippines already provided moral support. The primary purpose of the undertaking is to ensure that our various training programs are appreciated by the students in the proper perspective and context, so that the students who are expected to graduate at the end of this year would know how to properly use their training to advance their prospect for a better life. Better life, in our philosophy does not only mean earning and securing more income. More profoundly, it should mean being right with our Maker, with ourselves, with our families, and with the society that we live in. Of course, developing such relationships should lead to more productive life as the learner could use the principles in the various practical decision-making functions in life, including managing their jobs, saving, engaging in entrepreneurial activities and investing. The lecture provided an identification of key tools that should guide our lives and key questions that could help the students evaluate their lives and re-order them, should changes be necessary. After the program, all the training programs at Ugnayan, including the Tulay Computer training Program with Microsoft and Ople Foundation, the Computer repair and maintenance course, the Food Processing, the Baking, the Women's Accessories-making and Dress-making, and the Bar-tending course shall simultaneously start next Sunday, 17 October 2010 and will run until November.
