MAY WAS A SUPER WINDY MONTH IN FRANCE What a pleasure to finally have time to fully enjoy the new equipment and to train with my friends ! The TRX was a good sail, but the TRXI are really different : The sails feel more stable, more locked yet still really soft in the hands. 9.3, 8.4 and 7.7 are the benchmark in my opinion, with amazing speeds and a very good control, even when you are overpowered ! Small sizes are getting more stable with a deeper shape in the lower section, which helps a lot for control in strong winds. Can’t wait to try the 5.5 on my speedboard ! I discovered a new spot names « Le mourillon » close to the famous « Almanarre » spot in Toulon. A perfect place to train and tune your slalom gear, with beautiful colors, green grass and bars to have a beer at the end of the day ! You just need to be careful and avoid french army Submarines ! I had perfect training sessions on my 6.3, 7.0 and 7.7 out there ! May was also time to go to Gruissan, and I can say this year was a nightmare : Completly unprepared for strong winds, we had to face 40 to 60 knots each day, and I had to struggle with my old TR5 5.1 and I think that sail deserves to retire !! I couldn’t even add tension to my battens since the tensioners were rusted !! Anyway, I did my worse result since 2004, and ranked 65 in the crazy 1200 windsurfers race ! Hard to be so far in the ranking, but I’m proud to have finished all my races. I even broke a harness line and had to go back to the beach to change it and finish the race ! Craaaazyyy ! I think more people will come more prepared next year, and I will be part of it !! with a 4.7 !!!

May ended with the Transjaï, a long distance in my homespot, Le Jaï, close to Marignane Airport. This year Cyril Moussilmani, Julien Quentel, Cedric Bordes and Tristan Algret came to train before the Costa Brava PWA. We can have strong mistral, medium south winds but this year we had thermal winds, a south west wind that blows between 12 to 18 knots. Perfect conditions to go out with the 8.4 TRXI and my RRD 122. And I can tell I am really fast with that combination ! We did 2 races of 16 kilometers and 3 jibes, and I finished 7 and 3, with a 4th overall place !I was so happy to be back on the top after the Defi wind disaster ! Summer is on ! Ciao ! Xavier Joly

Maui Monthly

In France, May is traditionally the month of a unique race, that can not be compared with any other one in the world: Le DĂŠfi Wind. A start line of over 500 meters and 1,200 riders ready to compete and challenge an extremely strong wind, the Tramontana. The 2015 edition was equal as the legend. 4 races has been run in a wind between 30 and 60 knots. I did all the races in TRXI 5.1 and 3.8 Mutant. I finished 250 overall, with better heat to 161, ill-prepared for such conditions. Le DĂŠfi Wind is also great fun every night, 4 days incredible and unforgettable since they are experienced by all the fans around the world. I will return next year to try to get into the 100. The Challenge is a unique sensation, you are awaited!

FIRST GERMAN COMPETITION OF THE YEAR We had our first German competition of the year as part of the Rollei Bullet HD Summer Opening in Westerland (Sylt). Leon Jamaer won the event in front of Klaas Voget in super tough onshore conditions. I managed to get the 7th place on my biggest gear in the double-elimination. All in all it was a successful event for the organizer and all 26 competitors who participated in the Wave discipline. Best regards, Holger Beer

EUROCUP SYLT SUMMER OPENING Up to ten degrees celcius which felt like freezing with the wind of 5-6 beaufort. Waves were around 2 meters so slalom was very challenging. Well that were great circumstances for the first international slalom event in my life! Nevertheless I really enjoyed the new experience. At this final day I used my TRXI 7.7 on the F2 69, with 36 or 37 fin. I had good control but the waves made it difficult, especially at the jibing part. The course made it even more difficult as when the wind direction changed, the course was very downwind and slightly upwind. The pictures are of the last final that was sailed with half fleet and was restarted 4 times which did cost a lot of energy. The first picture is me finishing and this last elimination was my best with a 17th place.

The half day of racing earlier in the week was in low wind and high waves, I was with 8.4TRXI on my F2 82 with 44 fin, due to the high waves the board felt very big and I should have lowered my boom much more. I took this experience with me on the day with 7.7! We only had 1.5 days of slalom, but it still was worth the trip! I’m really happy with this new & fun experience, that’s why I went to Sylt in the first place! With 51 competitors I was able to end up in the middle mode with a 26th place overall.
