BACK TO SPORT So when i arrived To the réhabilitation center i Knew i had lot of work To do on m’y shoulder before i could sail again. didn’t really Know what To expect on the first days but i realize pretty quick that they where the best for any kind or injuries. So for my shoulder they gave my a planning from 8,30 am until 5,30 pm. From 8,30 to 9,30 I was doing cardio From 9,30 to 10 I was Doing physiotherapist exercises From 10 to 11 it was ergotheraphie exercises From 11 to 11,30 it was physiotherapist exercises again From 11,30 to 12 I had exercises in the swimming pool. Then lunch time I started again at 1,30pm until 3,30 only with legs exercises to be stronger on the legs From 3,30 until 4 i was doing hardcore exercises on a machine ( biodex ) to gain back some power in my injured harm.

From 4 to 5 i was getting some massage from the physiotherapist to put my shoulder at the right place and to relax it after all the effort I was doing during the day. And then form 5 to 5,30 I was going to the recuperation witch is; switching in betwin hot sona or hamam and a little pool at 5 degrees celciuse for a better blood circulation. That’s how I spent my from Monday to Saturday for one month. My shoulder is way better now but this month of November made ready to keep on doing it when i get back home in December. Because even if it’s way better now I still get lot of work out and physio until I back at my top level. But I’m confident! Aloha, Camille Juban.

NOVEMBER HAVE YOU BEEN GONE SO FAST Wauw Wauw, didn’t I just write a report couple days ago... uhmm yes..! No shaving for me, guess my beard had been growing slowly but it sure wasn’t a thing to slow me down. Been back on Bonaire and it was just amazing... ten days resting my body and mind and no gym. I have just been very thankful trying to get my mind on the slalom and did two days maximum of four hours sailing but was enough to test the 2016 FLARE freestyle board, sailing with my Loco pro 4.8 which is a great freestyle sail. I love it. TRAVELING Never in my 11 years have I traveled so much, so far, and so many hours to get to one place. It took me literally two days to get to Noumea, and even with sleeping pils that i took I couldn’t sleep until I got to Noumea and it started to work and I collapsed as soon as I put my head on the bed. COMPETING Four days of hard core slalom sailing with strong wind, and I was the whole four days on my TRX 7.0 rigged with 1 cm more downhaul to get maximum out of my sails. I was feeling fast having the TRX 7.0 rigged like this. I was the whole time on the ISonic 107 with my 38cm Zfin. Competition was insane with much adrenaline and so many guys and even the local Caledonians were fast so it was no place for mistakes. I did some great racing, winning a lot of the qualifying rounds and been to many winners finals and with me myself feeling confident the whole week of the event got me more into this racing mode.

DUCK JIBES These were a must I would I would say. Some of the heats I was so relaxed and sure of myself and my board speed that I just had to pull some duck jibes in some of the heats. BATTLES WITH THE BIGGER GUYS I still remember some great starts that I had. I still remember getting a boost and just passing and getting ahead of Cyril and Bjorn and many other guys going to the finish line while jibing behind them on the last mark. Do you guys know how good that feels? Knowing you are the small guy being called a buzz and you are just having this speed to pass them. RESULT Before I came New Caledonia in the October issue I said I will go to New Caledonia to get a top 10 PWA overall result? I knew if I could do good I can be (top 10) and it was what I worked for the whole year combining fitness with windsurfing. I finished 7th in the event and before I knew it was enough points to book me a place in the top ten to finish 9th overall for the year. FEELING I feel great about my result both in slalom overall for the year plus with the result in the event. WHAT IS NEXT Testing the new 2016 slalom and freestyle boards for Starboard and then fly back home to enjoy the winter, going back to the gym, get stronger, and train on and off the water for the next season. END OF ANOTHER RACING SEASON End of another racing season and almost the end of 2014 already. The racing season finished off with the best event of the year for wind, racing conditions and the most beautiful location in New Caledonia. The wind and the conditions were epic, warm good challenging water and great organization running the event. I however didn’t have the best event, I did have some good rounds but also had three crashes one in the quarterfinals right after the start that took me and another guy out. Then two more in semi’s that took me out of qualifying for the finals. It was really nice to be back in New Caledonia after so long though it truly is a great place for windsurfing and to visit. I also had a very nice Birthday in New Caledonia with Casey and his lovely wife Sarah, they both made me a very nice dinner at Sarah’s house and even had some nice chocolate cake for desert. After this event it was straight back to Maui for a week for the Thanksgiving holidays and finalizing some of the TRXI’s details with Art and Phil. Then it was off to Utah for a little vacation for myself. This was a nice way to finish off the season before getting back to work for next year. Not sure exactly what my plans are going to be for next year but I am hoping to do one more solid season of racing before calling it quits.

A NOVEMBER TO TRULY BE GRATEFUL FOR!

Oh man, I don’t even know where to begin with this month and all of its awesomeness, full of epic sessions, new experiences, and dreams coming true! Starting out in Maui at the beginning of the month, the PWA/AWT Aloha Classic wrapped up with great conditions, and the crowning of a new World Wave champ, Thomas Traversa. Over the last year I’ve been able to spend some time with Thomas, and besides being an incredibly talented sailor, he’s an awesome guy. It was an honor to be one of the guys carrying his chair up onto stage the night of the closing ceremony. After that, we scored a couple Kuau sessions before Sarah and I packed our bags to finally head to New Caledonia for the rest of the month! Arriving around midnight after one of the longest trips I’ve ever done, Sarah’s parents picked us up from the airport and took us to their house in Noumea, the main city of New Caledonia. Finally getting to sleep around 3am, we were up at 5:30 to get the gear sorted, head to the harbor where Sarah had her boat, and were driving it an hour up the coast to Port Ouenghi, where we launched and headed an hour out to the outer reef to a spot called Tenia. The whole experience was something out of a movie more than a reality. The wave is reminiscent of cloud break, and completely opposite than anything I’ve ever ridden. As we arrived on the spot, the wind was light, but the waves were already coming in at mast high. I rigged my 4.6 Epic, and have never been happier to have that sail with me. As everything was completely foreign, opposite direction, my bad foot forward, I was so glad to have the epic in my hands, as it’s ease of control gave me the comfort to push myself into conditions that I’ve never been use to.

The wave was AMAZING! So glassy, and so much power, and just so majestic being at an outer reef, rigging up on the boat, just incredible! My first wave I rode pretty conservatively on the shoulder, and my second wave, I went late on got demolished by the lip, washed over the reef, and was stoked! I had a smile from ear to ear, and that was just day 1! A couple days later we went and picked up Mr. Tattyyyy from the airport as the PWA Airwaves Noumea Dream Cup was about to start. Another dream come true, I had received a wildcard for the event and was able to compete in my first ever PWA slalom event. Unfortunately our summer left me with little slalom training, and I was probably the least prepared I’d ever been for an event, but nonetheless it was amazing to be a part of it all. Noumea was built around the water, and windsurfing reigns supreme. I couldn’t believe it. The beach was packed with people for the entire event and everywhere you went it felt like windsurfing was more alive and popular than ever. We had incredible conditions for the event, just stupid blasting winds, surprising everyone. Sarah and I didn’t have the setup for high wind slalom, and I was left to holding onto my TR-X 7.0 and 66 Manta in winds over 30kts for 4 days straight, which was quite an experience. Overall it was a great event, and I’m fired up more than ever to spend more time training for slalom! Also, big congrats to Taty, who put on an amazing performance, taking 6th place at the event! And to Micah who was a blast to watch as well! Everywhere you went on the beach people were just talking about how insane Taty was, between his incredible speed in slalom, and of course his unnatural freestyle abilities, and who could blame them!?!?

After the event we still had 2.5 weeks to go, and with wind everyday, there wasn’t a shortage of fun to be had. Just around the corner from the PWA event site is the ACPV windsurf club, where Sarah’s family have been members for over 20+ years. Full of families and kids, it was one of the coolest places I’ve seen for windsurfing, and I’ve never been so jealous of a group of kids. There must be 20-30 kids, between 10-17, that rip. There’s a crew of freestylers, led by Sarah’s younger brother Yann, some only 12 years old, and already landing switch moves. We had some great sessions out of the club, slalom and freestyle, sailing just in front, or taking a couple cruises to a local atoll for insane flat water blasting. We also scored a session around the corner from Sarah’s house at a fun onshore wave spot called Magenta, and got one more Tenia session in which was epic! We’ve got a little more than a week to go, and after that we’re looking forward to getting back to Maui for some winter wavesailing sessions! Cya on the water, Casey Hauser US-634

CHANGES TO THE SYSTEM November has been a huge month for me, especially in ‘family matters’. My mom is getting all geared up for her 99th Holiday Season and Thanksgiving was just the beginning. I always find it amazing to be living with a human who is almost 100 years old. As much of a task as it can be sometimes, it also has incredible rewards when I can see her continuing ti LIVE every day to the fullest, pushing her fragile weakened body to get around the kitchen or make holiday arrangements with the stuff she keeps in little boxes, stuff I have been part of almost all my adult life (now 68 years). I have had to shift my daily focus to include plenty of time to help her keep that charging spirit active and relevant. Art finished the new race sails and I think the results will please anyone looking for that sweet ride in total control. The TRXI is a remarkable design theme that continues to develop the ideas brought forward by all the racers we are in contact with. Art is a great listener too and he finds plenty of little gems of guidance in the many communications from around the world. All who do this... thank you for your contributions. Wave sails coming next. The boat got some special love in her systems too. We had to re-route the exhaust line to eliminate a troublesome low spot that filled with water and inhibited starting. One new section of hose and some rearrangement and the problem has been eliminated. Then came the real poopy job... removing the thirty year old holding tank, hoses, and discharge pump. EEEEuuuW!!! So not nice. But now it’s all back together with new odor free hoses, and an extra thick poly holding tank. Where there always used to be a slight background smell, now it’s all gone and only smells of the fresh paint in the engine room. Thanks for it only being one day of really stinky work. And then we had a nice day of sailing this month too. See you after December. Don’t forget the Whales are back! Aloha Barry
