Title says it all. Was just an amazing month for me, sailing and missing only six days due to traveling and no wind. I could say that I couldn’t ask for more. A 2nd place finish ahead of Bjorn dunkerbeck with Antoine Questel in first sure feels good to be again on the podium at the fun cup in St Bbarths:). Had great fun and hopefully again next year. Seems like my TR-8 sails still can compete against the other 2013 brand race sails :). Can’t wait to feel how fast and easy the TR9’s will be :).

, AND A LOT OF SAILING

Back on Bonaire we had another local race where the wind was perfect for my TR-8 6.6 and my Isonic 87. I am fast on the Tr8 6.6 and this is my best size so far, so I could keep my position and won all the 5 slalom races that were held. :). Well after all that racing and spending some little time on my races gears it was time to head back on my freestyle gear. Loco 4.8 and this time even my Loco 4.4 was on the water. Wind had been really good on Bonaire and I spent most of my days of the month doing freestyle in the morning and in the afternoon spent 2/3 hours in the waves practicing the jumps:). A lot of sailing and training has been going on. I had no time to rest, but it sure feels good to be active and windsurfing is a must. Hopefully I can get my hands on the new 4 batten Loco and to see how it feels ;). Ciao my friends Taty Frans NB-9 keep the smile :)

I still didn’t move from Guadeloupe in February cause my next trip is in March on a secret spot somewhere in the atlantic ocean. During this time condition as been great for sailing and surfing so I still could get some more footage of both sport and also some SUP. But what i was doing the most this month it’s working on finding new sponsors, and that mean’s lot of meeting on the main city (Pointe-a-pitre) which is an hour away from where I live. But in the end it worked out because I’m probably gonna have 2 news sponsors, one is Orange witch represent the same as AT&T for USA and Hyundai. So now i need to finalize those sponsorship while I need to take advantage of all the sessions a can get here still, because I’m also pretty busy organizing my March trip and spring Maui trip. So see you next month to tell you how my trip went. Camille Juban.

OVER 2,000 MILES DRIVING AND TWO FLIGHTS Over 2,000 miles driving and two flights, it was safe to say that February was a jampacked traveling month for me! After an epic week in Salt Lake and Park City for Xensr, it was time to head back to Baja in time to meet my parents who were staying at Ventana Windsports. The first week of February blasted, I was constantly lit on my 4.8 Loco and my parents had session after session on 4.2/3.7 Legend, loving it! Even after I left, they continued to have solid winds, and racked up a score sheet of 13/15 days at Ventana Windsports, never sailing above a 5.6 Switch! It was time to close the winter chapter of my travels and along with Tyson Poor we mobbed the van up the Baja peninsula and back to civilization. Back in LA, it was time to crack down on Xensr projects, and the rest of the month had me busy in LA, SD, SF, and Lake Tahoe. After 2.5 weeks, the itch to go windsurfing again was taking it’s toll. A phone call to the loft only made things worse, as Art’s excitement on R&D and the epic conditions they’ve been having in February forced my hand to book a ticket early and get back to Maui! Actually, currently I am sitting in first class about 30 min out from landing, and after 3

cups of coffee and the most elaborate breakfast I’ve ever had while flying, I’m jumping out of my seat! And no, I wish I had the baller status to always fly first class, but the irony of airlines, I could have sat in the middle seat in the back of coach and paid $315 for all my gear, or upgrade to first for $150 with bags! Cya on the water! Casey Hauser

A TOUGH MONTH ON MAUI

Haha we had a tough month in paradise, the wind wouldn’t make up its mind, it would either not blow at all or be crazy windy and super gusty. Along with the indecisive wind came a ton of rain, enough to make the whole north shore ocean water brown and gross. Although the weather was pretty bad I still managed to squeeze a few fun sessions in there. I had a really fun session at Ho’okipa, it got so windy I had to go in and re rig to my 3.7 legend, gusting to way over 40mph the legend is still super stable and absorbs the gusts. It was very hard to ride the wave down the line so I decided to work on my up the line game and mastering my shove its. Everybody went in because of how windy it was and said it was terrible but I stayed out and had fun, to me it became like a huge skate park, the waves were everywhere and had some size and raining. Not the perfect conditions you hear about. After that the wind died and the surf came up. I had a real good surf session at pails where it was pouring raining, you could barely paddle but once you were on the wave it was fine, lots of little head dips. The month ended with me getting really sick with some food poising and a virus from the dirty water. Im finally getting better can’t wait for next month to get all the built up energy out at Ho’okipa! Casey Rehrer

SHORT MONTH, ALWAYS ENDS WELL February was absolutely frickin’ rockin’ when it came to wind. Blasting sometimes. Off the charts. Day after day with thirty plus knots in the channels, high seas built by the wind, and huge gusts challenged everyone. If you came to Maui for wind during February 2013, you got it. We used it hard to keep smashing away at materials and new designs for Mutant and Ghost aimed at getting lighter still, and new materials we can use in Legend and Global to continue their upgrade. We were able to arrange a meeting with a potential cloth supplier who came with some very exciting possibilities as an experiment. And we are beginning to hear good test results from magazines, and some good speed results as well. There hasn’t been much racing in the South, but when we are represented the results have been encouraging. Micah got a nice deer on Lanai and when he came back he was fired up to get out and go fast. Meanwhile, Art is making sure we have solid designs and samples ready for photography in April. Short month, always lots to do.

All the wind even made it hairy on the Leeward side. Several nights I chose to stay aboard Cornelia because the new harbor construction made all the moorings a bit off and I knew there would be a nasty wind potential. Sure enough, about three in the morning a driving rain came down off the mountain from a direction that seldom happens, and fifty knot gusts followed, pushing many of the boats hard into the new docks. The power went out and there were tree branches down and city dirt filled the harbor. This month also saw us getting the prep work finished so the Raptor Deck could go on. What a treat that was only now the rest of the deck doesn’t feel so nice. As an early adopter of new technology all my life, I have to say that this should be a revolution in boat decking. I predict that boats will be specified to have Raptor Deck when first built as soon as people feel what it’s like to have such comfort and powerful grip at the same time. In the windsurf, surf, and SUP world this is nothing new, but the clever adaptation to yachts, and the work done to get the ingredients right are worth crowing about. Bikini safe... See you next month. Aloha Barry Spanier

RAMPING IT UP A BIT IN FEBRUARY by Micah Buzianis

Getting closer to the start of the racing season so my training and tuning is starting to ramp up to get prepared for the upcoming season. We had a lot of wind in Maui this month with plenty of days on small TR9’s and Mutants. I had a number of good solid days on my new slalom gear as well as some fun days on the wave gear as well. Worked on a lot of testing of the TR9’s to figure out what I am going to use for sizes and for models and it is looking like the new 2013 TR9xt’s are the way to go. The plan right now is that I will be on the xt’s from 7.0 and up and then the regular 9’s from there down. I just hope in March and April I get some more light wind days in as there has been so many strong wind days so far this year I need some more time on the bigger gear. February is also the month for the Lanai archery deer hunt and this year was another good year. I went with my friends Ted Kapoi and Jay Brown and we all were fortunate to get one this year. I was the first one to harvest with a good size doe, then Ted got a nice size buck still in velvet and Jay had to wait till day two but managed to get a young buck. We saw a ton of deer over there again and we were only supposed to get two and half days in but with the extremely strong winds the ferry back to Maui was cancelled so we got one more afternoon hunt in. We saw plenty more but no luck in brining home another one. This was a perfect mid month break though and am looking forward to next year already.

Maui Monthly

Micah Buzianis about 2013 TR-9 XT "I will race on the XT versions from 7.0 and up. Speed was better on the XT but the biggest difference I felt was that the XT was a lot softer and more forgiving. It would trim better in the chop absorbing the chop so you wouldn’t have to change your stance or trim and then in the puffs it would accelerate so much better because you could hold the sail down and just feel the leech twisting off excess power while accelerating rather than having to sheet out at all.".
