BY RICHARD LOVE April 11, 2011 (Salt Lake City, Utah) – In another major announcement for Magnus Racing, the team is proud to announce that it has formed a partnership with Los Angeles-based Roscoe’s House of Chicken ‘n Waffles for the upcoming American Le Mans Series at Long Beach, a featured event at the 37th Annual Toyota Grand Prix of Long Beach. “It’s really exciting to get local businesses involved in this type of event,” said John Potter, owner of Magnus Racing. “Roscoe’s Chicken and Waffles is a staple of the Southern California community, and I’m proud that they will be the primary sponsor of our Porsche next weekend in Long Beach. We’re excited that they will be a part of our team for the weekend and that they will be a part of the World Class American Le Mans Series.” A cultural landmark of Southern California, Roscoe’s House of Chicken ‘n Waffles brought soul food to Southern California in 1975 with the first 24-hour diner in Los Angeles. Its signature dish, Scoe’s Chicken prepared Southern Style with two waffles, has been popularized by the restaurant’s famous patrons - which include singers, to players of all Los Angeles sports teams, to countless television and movie stars. On any given night at Roscoe’s you might find Snoop Dogg or Larry King. Roscoe’s Long Beach location, one of five operated by the company, is located mere blocks from the Grand Prix Circuit at the intersection of Broadway Blvd and Alamitos St and is traditionally a hub of activity during the Grand Prix weekend. This year, however, will mark the first time that the distinctive chicken and waffle logo will appear on a race car. Driver Craig Stanton, who lives not far from the Roscoe’s Long Beach location, knows all about the legendary status Roscoe’s has in the Long Beach community. “Roscoe’s is an institution in Long Beach,” said Stanton. “It’s like a secret handshake – if you are from this area you know all about Roscoe’s Chicken and Waffles. Everyone has been there at least once. It is a real honor to be a part of this, especially since I’m from Long Beach, and I hope the fans enjoy this as much as I am going to.”

A Branded Man BY MIKE ADAMS Author’s Note: I would like to thank Stephanie Smith for her help and inspiration in writing this column. We’re pretty tight. In recent years, there has been an effort to equate the current homosexual rights movement with the black civil rights movement of the 50s and 60s. But the analogy fails for two principal reasons: 1) The homosexual movement can’t find a reverend named Martin Luther Queen, and 2) unlike blacks, homosexuals generally have to invent their own victimizaMike Adams tion stories so they will have some “social ill” to eradicate. Of course, such stories are never a manifestation of the illnesses of “society.” They are simply evidence of widespread mental illness in the LGBT “civil rights” movement. The latest psychotic episode within the LGBT (uncivil) rights movement occurred at UNC-Chapel Hill where a freshman told police he was attacked by a man who burned his hand and called him an anti-gay slur. The accusation resulted in the police investigating the incident as a so-called hate crime. "As a university community, we condemn this act of violence," said UNC-CH Chancellor Holden Thorp in a statement to students, faculty and staff. "Our Department of Public Safety will bring the strongest possible charges against the attacker." Remember that promise as you read the rest of the story. The attack, which was reported to police April 5, supposedly occurred on the foot bridge between Craige Residence Hall and the intersection of Ridge Road and Manning Drive. Police said the student was treated for burns at the student health center. The student, UNC freshman Quinn Matney, told police a person he recognized (but did not know) pressed a hot piece of metal to his left wrist, scalding it and doing tendon damage. The burn left an imprint that looked something like a figure 8. The police had no suspects when Chancellor Thorp weighed in. Matney said he stopped to speak to another acquaintance just prior to the attack, but didn't know that person by name, either. The intellectual giants running the UNC system should have been suspicious. But they weren’t. Instead, Thorp told the entire university community that the aggravated assault appeared “to have been motivated by the sexual orientation of a male student." And he went even further. Chancellor Thorp told the university that officials intended to report the assault as a hate crime to the federal government. “Everyone in our community has the right to a safe, inclusive and welcome living and learning environment.” He continued, “And all of us have a responsibility to stand against acts of violence, harassment, bullying and intimidation and to treat each other with civility and respect.” Outside of a basic incident report on hand at the police station, the attack was not made public by the university until Monday – almost a week later. That lag time upset some members of the gay community at UNC-CH – as if they needed another reason to be upset. “It’s troubling when the only way we find out about a hate crime on campus is by word of mouth,” said Jeff DeLuca, a sophomore and co-president of the Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, Transgender and Straight Alliance. It should have troubled him. If the only sources talking about the alleged attack were Gs, Ls, Bs, and Ts it should have led some to believe that the report was just B.S. And it was B.S. In a message later released to the campus community, Chancellor Thorp revealed the obvious: “The Department of Public Safety has determined that the alleged aggravated assault … did not occur. That report, filed with campus police on April 5, was false. The University will not report it as a hate crime.” But they should report it as a hate crime – one committed by Quinn Matney. The act of filing a false police report is a crime. And, clearly, his motivation for doing so was to tarnish the image of an entire population of people he hates. The university should not stop there. Administrators should consider an investigation into the source of the burn on his hand. If he burned himself then, clearly, his actions were motivated by the sexual orientation of his target. Chancellor Thorp should honor his promise to “bring the strongest possible charges against the attacker” even if it is concluded that the attacker attacked himself. Gays have been granted a fundamental constitutional right to abuse their bodies in the privacy of their own bedrooms. But they don’t have a right to do so in public and at the expense of honest taxpayers and scarce police resources. Mike Adams is a criminology professor at the University of North Carolina Wilmington and author of Feminists Say the Darndest Things: A Politically Incorrect Professor Confronts “Womyn” On Campus.

Compton High’s Debate Students Seek Community Support to Represent the United States at Upcoming International Competition in Hawaii FROM STAFF REPORTS COMPTON, Calif., -- With the Pan Pacific Debate Championship in Honolulu, Hawaii only a month away, a trio of Compton High School students hope they can raise enough money to compete as part of the United States Debate Team. For over a year the Compton Unified School District (CUSD) school lacked a solid debate team, but once freshman Edgar Preciado arrived seniors Miriam Barrón and Ricardo Pacheco set out to establish a new one. The three students immediately recruited teachers John Taylor and Joe Gaerttner as their coaches. As soon as they were ready they began competing in local, national and international competitions as part of Compton’s official team. But, the Compton trio was also chosen by sponsor Claremont McKenna College to compete as members of the World Schools Debating Council’s (WSDC) Team USA. In February they beat Peru in the Pan American Debate Championship Spanish Language Division title at Claremont McKenna College, and continued to debate at subsequent tournaments

Topics have included economic policy, global warming, business ethics, counter-terrorism policies, and child obesity. Because he never had any experience with debate teams, Taylor said he had much to learn before he could provide the students with any kind of training. “They had to teach me how these debates are conducted, how much research and preparation you have to put in, and now I’ve learned so much that I have judged a few competitions,” Taylor explained. He also praised Preciado, Barrón and Pacheco for their dedication. “These students are most likely one of the best debate teams in the state and probably in this country. I’m very proud of them and I wish I could say I developed this team, but they walked in here and asked me to be a part of it.” Taylor added, “If anyone deserves to participate in next month’s competition in Hawaii, it’s them.” Barrón pointed out that the team is often challenged to debate positions they may not agree with. “Your personal or political beliefs go out the door. When you’re out there you need to believe in whatever you’ve been asked to argue,” she said. Barrón added that despite any uncertainty of what the next debate will be about, she finds each tournament exhilarating. “I love the thrill of being up there not knowing what the judges will think of you, and just trying to make your point as best as you can.” Pacheco said that like his teammates, he too is excited about the prospect of debating against international teams in Hawaii as part of Team USA. “I was really happy when I found out I made it on the team. I auditioned three summers ago but I didn’t make it, so I’m honored to be a part of it,” he noted. Pacheco added, “I’ve learned about a lot of things that kids my own age don’t know about. I can talk about current events and have a serious conversation about international relations.” For Preciado and his teammates, this is their last chance this year to compete in a major tournament far from home. Reflection On Japan: Growing Stigma Against Victims of Fukushima and a floundering economy, politicians tiptoe their way across the smooth paving stones BYNPHILIP J. CUNNINGHAM Editor's note: A month after the Tohuku disaster, a quasi-nationalistic “love it or leave it” attitude has gained currency, putting pressure on people to stay and face potential dangers for the sake of group solidarity. A wrenching dilemma has emerged in the midst of the nuclear radiation crisis afflicting Japan. A quasi-nationalistic “love it or leave it” attitude has gained currency, putting pressure on individuals to remain in place and face potential dangers for the sake of group solidarity. Phillip Times of tragedy bring out the best and the worst in people. If there’s Cunningham any consolation in the harrowing days and nights since the devastating earthquake and tsunami of March 11, 2011, it is in the stoicism and quiet heroism of ordinary Japanese, who have displayed an admirable courage, order and decorum in the face of unmitigated disaster. But there are hints of darker countercurrents seething below the surface as well. Mercifully, there is nothing on the scale of the race riots and indiscriminate killing of ethnic Koreans that followed in the wake of the Great Kanto Earthquake of 1923. But there have been incendiary accusations, faint echoes of the same irrational desire —need, even—to pin blame anywhere it sticks, as a coping mechanism during times of stress. The tendency to categorize, stereotype and "nail" people with indelible stigmas exists everywhere, but in relatively homogeneous Japan, the tyranny of small differences is codified and enforced to a high degree. On the one hand, those who temporarily moved their families to Western Japan or fled overseas are being ridiculed as quitters, losers and, in some essential way, non-Japanese. On the other hand, staying in place involves risks that go beyond the physical exposure to radiation, aftershocks and tsunami— to the social realm of peer pressure, identity maintenance and group loyalty. Evacuations, some forced, others voluntary, have created a new stigma—a class of people shuttled about, irradiated through no fault of their own—who are being shunned from clinics and even refugee camps for fear of “polluting” others. This fight/flight dilemma—the unenviable choice facing the contract and temporary workers hired to quell the broken nuclear furnace; the hapless Fukushima farmers forced to destroy the milk from their dairy farms and the food from their lovingly tended vegetable patches and rice fields; the fishermen toiling in an irradiated sea— borders on unbearable. Already, stubborn refusals to evacuate, as well as suicides, are being reported. The Meme of the “Fleeing Gaijin” Compared with the destructive fury of a tsunami that erased entire towns from the map, and the ongoing radiation nightmare that is turning fertile farmland and ancestral homes into a dead zone, scattered reports of prejudice seem petty and are being treated as backpage news. Yet these undercurrents are disturbing and real. A week after the quake, the politically incorrect term "gaijin" (“aliens” or “outsiders”) became common, batted up by bloggers and bandied about by glib reporters seeking to hype up the meme of foreigners leaving Japan. Many stupid things are said about gaijin, an impossibly broad category that theoretically includes the population of the planet minus those eligible to hold a Japanese passport, but one workable definition is that gaijin are "people who leave." Even the delayed re-opening of Disneyland has been blamed on foreign talent skipping town. Where are Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs? Of course, numerous journalists, volunteers and aid workers from around the world have gone beyond the call of duty to extend help to the hardest hit zones around the Tohoku region. But the “fleeing gaijin” meme dovetails nicely with the discourse of a Japanese nationalism fueled by frustration, fear, and resentment. Facing vacant embassies, understaffed offices

of time-worn prejudices, saying that “only Japanese” can save Japan. Japanese are socially primed from a young age to see gaijin not just as the ultimate other, but as the ultimate guest, especially if the foreigner is European in appearance. If gaijin didn't exist, Japanese would have to invent them, not so much as to describe the physical reality of hairy barbarians as to create a foil by which to focus and firm up an inchoate identity. This is why gaijin who speak Japanese fluently and settle in Japan defy not just expectations but mental categorization. "So, when are you leaving?" was the habitual greeting an American friend of mine heard while teaching English in a small town in rural Iwate. He left two years later after completing his contract, fulfilling the apparent expectation that he would leave—because gaijin always leave—but he has since settled in another part of Japan. Non-Japanese are routinely singled out and marginalized in ways both pleasant and unsettling—typically a mix of the overwrought politeness, pomp and ceremony reserved for high-class guests, and the simmering resentment and condescension reserved for low-class guests who don’t know their place. The New Japanese Gaijin However, the real unspoken victims of the open season on gaijin are the Japanese people themselves. As the Fukushima nuclear facility continues to spew radiation, to “fight” for Japan is being construed as staying put with a stoic disregard for danger. Those who elect to leave are seen as threats to the social order. Any disruption or departure gives rise to doubts, and can be seen as a brake on the rolling wheels of the economy, as the trumped-up Disneyland case presumably illustrates. This inherent social tension, only gradually being voiced, mirrors a classic divide-andconquer strategy in which one group of people is pitted against another in order to distract from the actual agents of culpability. Fly or fry? It’s a false dichotomy, but those most vulnerable to the taming-through-teasing are the people of Tokyo and surrounding prefectures. The emotionally volatile “Don’t leave if you want to be a real Japanese” is gaining traction and muddying the discourse at a time when some people in certain parts of Japan are facing scientifically documented risks that need to be evaluated in a cool and rational way. If it turns out that radiation leakage is worse than what TEPCO (Tokyo Electric Power Company) and the government of Prime Minister Naoto Kan have been willing to admit, who's the villain here? Most of the gaijin have already flown the coop and moved on to safer climes where ambient radiation and the emerging prejudices of post-quake Japan are unlikely to touch them. The real danger is for those who remain in place, especially the Japanese. The mockery of a marginal class of people who have evacuated for safety—gaijin double-stigmatized by their flight—makes it harder to respond to sensible calls for evacuation should the crisis take a turn for the worse. The fuss over gaijin is a distraction, obscuring the gross negligence of the deep-pocketed TEPCO and its well-remunerated cronies and enablers in the Japanese media, advertising firms, and the government. Already Fukushima-jin are reeling from prejudice, and refugees who hail from areas close to the battered nuclear plant are being discriminated against even in shelters. Worse yet are the heartbreaking reports of Fukushima kids turned away from medical clinics for fear they might be radioactive. This instant stigmatization touches on a raw nerve in Japanese culture, reminiscent of the sad fate of "Hiroshima maidens" and other radiated hibakusha, whose victimhood attracted social pity from a distance but avoidance up close. Decades from now, long after the gaijin are forgotten, will there be a generation of Fukushima maidens unable to marry because of the stigma of birth in a radiation-tainted hometown? Only time will tell.

Avoiding a Slick Argument

That last phrase is key. Our proven reserves are much lower than our actual reserves because government has blocked access, onshore and offshore. It's silly to argue that there is no point to easing restrictions on drilling because "proven reserves" aren't there. There'd be a lot more proven reserves if the restrictions were eased. Just in the past few years, we've started the process to extract a century-long supply of clean-burning natural gas we didn't even realize existed. Three years ago, Congress let expire the decades-long ban on leasing most of the Outer Continental Shelf. A study by ICF International found this could increase production of crude oil by nearly a million barrels a day and natural gas by 3 billion cubic feet per day. Yet legal delays still hamper extraction -- like a lawsuit claiming the government didn't adequately investigate the effect on global warming. There are plenty of places that industry experts think contain oil where Congress hasn't lifted bans on drilling. While companies can now plan to work in the Atlantic and Pacific, Congress insisted that most of the Eastern Gulf of Mexico remain undisturbed. The vast potential of the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge is untapped. It's estimated the Eastern Gulf of Mexico has a recoverable 3.7 billion barrels of oil and 55 trillion cubic feet of natural gas. That ICF study estimated that if the ban on drilling was revoked in non-park federal land in Alaska and some Rocky Mountain states, America could produce 1.125 million barrels of oil and an extra 2.4 billion cubic feet of natural gas a day by 2030. Even where drilling is allowed, companies slog through thick red tape, applying for 15 permits and meeting 90 federal regulations. That's before state bureaucracies get involved, adding yet more sticky, tangled tape. There is simply too much energy beneath American land and waters to take the current "proven oil reserves" at face value. You might support drilling, or you might oppose it. But no one can deny there's plenty of fuel left to drill. Donald J. Boudreaux is a professor of economics at George Mason University in Fairfax, Virginia. He chaired the Department of Economics from 2001 to 2009. Previously, he was president of the Foundation for Economic Education.

BY DONALD J. BOUDREAUX With Japan's nuclear crisis and a wave of instability crossing the Middle East, pols and pundits are turning again to the question of our energy future. Will civil war and strife disrupt access to oil and our way of life? Can the United States change its century-old pattern of relying heavily upon petroleum? People will reach different answers to these questions and draw different conclusions about what to do. It would be helpful, however, if everyone could get the factual premises right. Unfortunately, one thing all too many observers have in common is an erroneous understanding of what the term "proven oil reserves" means. The myths surrounding this oft-cited figure are pervasive. And there's no way to have a realistic conversation about energy without getting facts and definitions straight. Republicans for Environmental Protection is just one of many so-called expert groups that gets it wrong. "The notion that the U.S., which sits atop less than 3 percent of the world's proven oil reserves, can drill enough oil to drive down prices if the flow is interrupted from a region with 64 percent of the world's reserves is a pipedream," David Jenkins, a vice president, recently wrote. He argued that supporters of drilling "all neglect to mention that the U.S. is already disproportionately depleting its scant 3 percent reserves to produce 8 percent of current global production." Jenkins paints a frightening picture of the future. But whatever good arguments there might be for keeping tight restrictions on drilling, his isn't one of them. That's because the size of any nation's proven oil reserves depends not only upon how much oil is contained in its borders, but also upon its government's drilling policies. Here's how the Society of Petroleum Engineers defines it: "Proved reserves are those quantities of petroleum which, by analysis of geological and engineering data, can be estimated with reasonable certainty to be commercially recoverable, from a given date forward, from known reservoirs and under current economic conditions, operating methods, and government regulations."

BUSINESS EXCHANGE MARABLE’S MALCOLM X BY WILLIAM REED Two of Malcolm X's daughters take issue with a recent biography of their father alleging that the marriage between Malcolm X and Betty Shabazz was strained, and that both partners may have been unfaithful. Black academicians are having coronaries about the book: “Malcolm X: A Life of Reinvention”. Compiled by renowned Black historian Manning Marable, the book is a hot-seller. Marable worked on the book for 20 years and died just before its publication in April 2011. Among records Marable used were Malcolm’s personal papers and a letter to Nation of Islam leader Elijah Muhammad where he discusses his wife's sexual frustrations and says she had threatened to "seek satisfaction elsewhere." A major body of work, Marable’s “Malcolm X” includes interviews, source documents and theories William Reed long bantered about, but never fully denied or proved. Malcolm X’s death has long been shrouded by the dealings of that era: informants, infighting among Black militants, power struggles within the NOI and allegations of lackluster handling of the initial investigation. In making Malcolm just a man, Manning broached his private life saying Betty Shabazz was “Not as subservient as Malcolm may have wanted her to be”. Manning said he sought: “to pay tribute to the slain activist's life and influence" and avoid portraying him as "a saint without the normal contradictions and blemishes." Few portrayals give credit due to the Nation of Islam and its role in the advancements of African Africans. Foundered in 1930, the Nation of Islam (NOI) is a religious and social group often referred to as “a militant” African American organization. Frequently called “anti-Semitic”, “racist” and “sexist”; NOI supporters counter that they have been involved in programs toward the betterment of African Americans for over 70 years. In the beginning, the NOI was led by Wallace D. Fard Muhammad, whom NOI members consider “a prophet”. Fard Muhammad’s agenda was to improve the spiritual, mental, social, and economic condition of Blacks. When Wallace D. Fard Muhammad disappeared in 1934, Elijah Muhammad took over and led the NOI up until 1975. Using practices preached by Booker T. Washington and Marcus Garvey, Elijah Muhammad proved to be “a great teacher” as he established NOI businesses, large real estate holdings, armed forces and schools. The NOI practice of separatism incorporated into a do-for-self philosophy resulted in the NOI owning and operating hundreds of businesses and employing thousands of people nationwide during the 1950s and 60s. The “mentor” of Malcolm and Farrakhan, Elijah Muhammad led the NOI to purchase and operate food-industry services, bakeries, and restaurants. They owned a large amount of Georgia farmland. Many NOI members still own and operate hair-care shops and businesses. Over the years, some of NOI business ventures have been success stories; others have been criticized as Amway-style marketing schemes. The official beliefs of the Nation of Islam have been outlined in books, documents, and articles, but through the years the NOI has preached that the entire American political structure and economy is based on White supremacy. Few can match Elijah Muhammad’s and the NOI’s urban successes. Malcolm X is an example of the NOI’s record in cleaning up drug addicts, reforming prostitutes, and keeping Black youth out of gangs. In 1963 James Baldwin said: “Elijah Muhammad has been able to do what generations of welfare workers and committees and resolutions and reports and housing projects and playgrounds have failed to do: heal and redeem drunkards and junkies, convert people who have come out of prison and to keep them out, make men chaste and women virtuous, and invest both the male and the female with pride and a serenity that hang about them like an unfailing light. He has done things our Christian church has spectacularly failed to do”. During Louis Farrakhan’s reign, society has struck back at the NOI. In the 1980s when crack cocaine became very common, the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development employed NOI-run private firms to provide security in housing projects in Black neighborhoods; but the Anti-Defamation League successfully lobbied Congress to sever the HUD contracts.

Study: Genetic Link Found Between Prostate, Womb Cancers FROM STAFF REPORTS A genetic link exists between the risk of womb cancer in women and prostate cancer in men, British scientists claimed. A University of Cambridge study into whether certain genetic variants influence the development of womb cancer, or protect women from it, said Sunday that they found a genetic region that reduces the risk of developing the disease. In men, a gene within the same region, called HNF1B, was previously linked to a lower prostate cancer risk. Women with the protective version of the gene are on average 15 to 18 percent less likely to develop womb cancer, while men with the same version are 21 percent less likely to develop prostate cancer. However, in men, the gene was also linked to a 10 to 14 percent greater risk of developing type 2 diabetes. "This study is the first to highlight a potential link between womb cancer in women and prostate cancer in men, providing new insight into the underlying genes and mechanisms that lead to the development of both diseases," said Professor Douglas Easton, who led the research. He added that understanding how genetic variants influence a person's risk of developing cancer is a crucial step in being able to identify high-risk groups who could benefit from closer monitoring or measures to reduce their risk of developing the disease. In the study, published online in the journal Nature Genetics, researchers scanned the genomes of 1,265 womb cancer patients and compared them to the genomes of 5,190 women who did not have the disease. This allowed them to pinpoint a 47 different "letters" of the DNA code, known as single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs), where genes linked to womb cancer were most likely to be found. They then narrowed down their search by looking specifically at these regions in a further 3,957 patients with womb cancer and 6,886 without the disease. This left just three SNPs that were shown to be significantly linked to a decreased risk of womb cancer, all of which overlapped with the gene HNF1B. The Meaning of Easter: Miracles Still Happen

Jesus' resurrection was a true miracle that changed the world then, and continues to transform lives now. BYBEN-WITHERINGTON-III In 1978, I was at a little Methodist chapel outside Durham, England, about to preach the Easter service, when the chapel steward raced out to me all in a bother. Looking at me with some fear and trembling, he said, "I am ever so sorry, but I must ask you something before you go in to the service." I responded: "Go ahead." Timidly he asked, "You do believe in the resurrection, don't you?" I assured him that I did. Looking mightily relieved, he said, "Thank goodness, I am ever so glad. The chap we had last year didn't, he just talking about the cycle of the crops and the popping up of the spring flowers. It was awful. Nothing about Jesus at all." We all have personal reflections on Easter. My own memories are of churches packed with people wearing new and brightly colored clothes, huge dinners with relatives and Easter egg hunts, and of course way too many chocolate bunnies. But all of this is simply on the periphery of Easter for me. The heart of the matter is not "beauty in the ordinary" or the rites of spring, but a unique historical miracle that has spawned other miracles ever since. To put the matter directly, Easter is about the resurrection of Jesus and his appearances to his disciples shortly thereafter. There are those who dispute that this was an historical event, but the evidence is pretty compelling. The gospels tell us that the inner circle of disciples denied, betrayed, and deserted Jesus in his hour of greatest need. They tell us that his death was basically witnessed by a few female disciples, and that it was these women who first went to the tomb and encountered the risen Jesus. Several things must be said about this: 1) By all accounts, Jesus died by crucifixion--the most shameful and public way to die in antiquity. In an honor-and-shame culture, Jesus' death by crucifixion should have put an end to his following and stopped any trumpeting about Jesus being the messiah or savior (see Luke 24.19-21: "We had hoped [past tense] he would be the one to redeem Israel"). It is very difficult for historians to explain the transformation of the inner circle of Jesus from cowards to some of the most courageous people of their era if Jesus did not arise and appear to them. 2) No evangelistic religion in its right mind, operating in a highly patriarchal world, would make up the idea that the chief witnesses to the heart of their creed (death, burial, empty tomb, risen Lord) were women. The witness of women was considered suspect throughout the Greco-Roman world, including Judea. 3) In the context of early Judaism, resurrection meant something that happened to a body. It was not seen as a purely spiritual or visionary matter, which is one reason why the Gospel accounts stress that the risen Jesus could be touched and could eat. These accounts, in their very specificity and physical detail, were clearly not intended to be metaphorical. They are a record of a world-changing physical miracle: the return to life of a previously-dead man. Jesus’ resurrection was a true miracle that changed the world and set it on a course that we still see being played out today. In my view, the death and resurrection of Jesus is the fulcrum of human history and the key to its interpretation. The Easter miracle transformed women and men from doubters to believers 2,000 years ago, and has continued to do so ever since. In great and little ways, Easter miracles have touched me personally. A member of a Baptist church near me suffered heart failure, but was miraculously revived after being prayed over by his pastor. The sister of my college roommate’s closest friend, five years old and dying of leukemia, witnessed to the risen Jesus so personally and persuasively that her brother, who had gone down a dark path, converted long after she died. A little boy from a dirt-poor family in the backwoods of North Carolina, invited to an Easter egg hunt, showed me the true face of Christ by offering up his prized goose’s egg “for the children who ain’t got no Easter eggs.” Jesus’ resurrection continues to transform me and millions of other Christians. To me Easter is all about the fact that God’s “yes” to life is louder than death’s “no,” and the ultimate proof of this is that God raised his Son from the dead. Easter is not just about an isolated miracle 2,000 years ago that chiefly affected one person. Easter is all about the fact that miracles do still happen. Christ’s story is the Christian’s destiny. In 1 Cor. 15, Paul calls Jesus’ resurrection the first fruits of the resurrection, and he speaks of a day when, upon Jesus’ return, the dead in Christ will be raised. The physicality of Jesus’ resurrection is important not least because we live an empirical age. Most people’s spiritual birth certificates seem to be from Missouri--they say “Show Me.” I love the way John Updike confronts this tendency in his famous poem “Seven Stanzas at Easter”. In an age of materiality and hard empiricism, the resurrection of Jesus challenges modern assumptions that miracles are impossible. There is certainly no miracle that more comforts me, having already had various close encounters with surgery and experienced life after 50. I increasingly look forward to my own physical existence coming up for renewal when Jesus returns. To me, this is also what Easter is about. Because the Son rose, this son (which is what my name, Ben, means in Hebrew) will also one day rise. CHRIST HAS RISEN !! ALLEULIA !! ALLEULIA !!

Protest and Rally this Saturday at the home of Marilyn Davenport FROM LBT REPORTS

3+ Minutes with the Bible THE ONE ESSENTIAL THING

by Richarad Love The place of the Word in the life of the believer is settled once and for all in the inspired record of one of our Lord's visits to the home of Mary and Martha (Luke 10:38-42). Commentaries on this passage generally point out that both Mary and Martha had their good points! This, of course, is true, but if we limit ourselves to this observation we rob the account of its intended lesson, for our Lord did not commend both sisters for their "good points." He reproved Martha and commended and defended Mary with regard to one particular matter. What, exactly, was Mary commended for? How often she has been portrayed as an example to us to spend more time with the Lord in prayer! But this is missing the point of the passage. Mary was not praying; she "sat at Jesus' feet, and HEARD HIS WORD." She just sat there, drinking in all He had to say. This was "the one essential thing" which Mary had "chosen" and which our Lord said was not to be "taken away from her." Thus, while prayer and testimony and good works all have their importance in the life of the believer, hearing God's Word is "the one essential thing" above all others. Indeed, let this "one thing" be given its rightful place and all the rest will follow naturally. It is granted, of course, that we must study the Word prayerfully and with open heart, or it will have disastrous, rather than beneficial results, but this only goes to place still further emphasis upon the supreme importance of the Word of God, which we seek, by sincere and prayerful study, to understand and obey.

ARSONIST SOUGHT IN SOUTH AND EAST LONG BEACH LBT CRIME REPORTS Long Beach Police and Fire Investigators would like to inform the community of an arsonist who is believed to be responsible for numerous arson incidents that took place over the weekend in the south and east sections of the city. The first incident was reported on Friday, April 15, shortly after 3:00 a.m. when a vehicle was set on fire on the 1700 Block of Orizaba Avenue. Since then, there have been at least 18 fires reported that investigators believe were started by the same person. The fires range from garages, sheds, vehicles, trash cans and trash dumpsters, and occurred mostly in alleys and yards, however, in one instance the suspect started a fire inside of an occupied home. All but one of the fires were reported between the hours of 2:00 a.m. and 6:00 a.m. The single incident that occurred outside of this time frame was at approximately 3:45 p.m., in an alley rear of the 1000 block of Martin Luther King Jr Boulevard. The general areas where the fires occurred are from Pacific Coast Highway to Appleton Street and from Atlantic Avenue to Redondo Avenue. As of this time, investigators have limited suspect information. He is described only as a male adult. In addition to committing the arsons, he has also burglarized two homes. The Long Beach Police and Fire Departments would like to remind the community to take all necessary precautions to ensure your safety at night. Secure the doors and windows before going to sleep and if you see something suspicious, call 911 immediately. One man’s joke is another man’s hug

REV. JAMES L. SNYDER To anybody that knows me, (and can anybody really know anybody else?), they would readily affirm that I am not addicted to hugging. Let me point out very quickly I am not allergic to it either. I just believe a good hearty handshake says everything I want to say to anybody I meet. This is biblical. The Bible talks about extending to one another the right hand of fellowship, and nothing says it better than a firm, hearty handshake. Anyway, that’s my story and I’m sticking with it. I usually reserve my hugs for the little people in my life, like my grandchildren and their friends. The smaller they are the more they need a hug. But that is my limit. Although, I have been waylaid on occasion, none of it was my doing. I stick firm to a good handshake and leave the hugging to other people. I do not criticize people who like to hug. I just am not one of them. I like what my grandfather used to say, “To each his own.” Recently, certain events brought me to the point of challenging my whole theory of hugology. It all began at the end of a rather busy Sunday. My Sundays at the church begin at eight o’clock in the morning and concludes somewhere around eight o’clock in the evening. Of course, I go home for lunch and a quick nap in the afternoon, but my whole day is devoted to the church. And I like it that way. If it were up to me, there would be seven Sundays in a week. Rev. James Snyder I was driving home from church late last Sunday

Financial Recovery – Lessons Learned By Frank Robinson Union Bank, N.A. Vice President, Community Affairs Manager Americans have been living through what many financial experts consider the worst economic times since the Great Depression. Many have struggled with home mortgages amid layoffs and downsizings, while others regret some of their past financial choices. There may be a silver lining to the economic downturn. The financial crisis has served as a wake-up call – an important reminder that has forced many consumers to reevaluate their spending and saving habits and to refocus their financial priorities. Lessons can be learned from Frank Robinson mistakes as we revisit some of the traditional principles that still hold true: Stick to a Budget A budget is an important tool to help you work towards financial goals and plan for the future. When you are accurate and honest about your financial situation, your budget can provide a comprehensive overview and help you build a savings cushion. It will help ensure you are properly allocating finances to pay your bills on time and to cover additional expenses. Furthermore, a budget will help you set aside money for emergencies and for long-term goals, such as saving for college, a home, a vacation and/or retirement. Save for a Rainy Day Financial experts agree that saving should be a part of every household budget. It is prudent to set aside at least six months worth of living expenses in case of a medical emergency or job loss, or another economic downturn. Start small and save a little each month to build your emergency fund. Look for ways to cut monthly expenses in your household budget and stash that money in a savings account or money market account to protect yourself. Live within Your Means It may be tempting to make purchases on credit, but many consumers are now thinking twice. Not only are credit card bills, loans and other debt a burden on a budget, the balances almost always continue accumulating interest, adding to your debt. Carefully consider needs vs. wants and pay with cash, or utilize credit only for purchases you can afford to pay in full each month. When making large purchases, resist the temptation to go to the edge of affordability. Aim to live below your means and invest the money you save. Don’t Put All Your Eggs in One Basket In other words, diversify. Diversification is a strategy that helps investors spread the risk among their investments. By picking a diverse group of investments, whether they are stocks, bonds, or money market securities, you may be able to limit your losses and reduce the fluctuations of investment returns without sacrificing too much potential gain. It may also be wise to diversify your income. Starting a side business or exploring additional means of revenue may help provide extra income if you happen to experience an unexpected job loss or other financial hardship. Listen to Trusted Advisors Develop a relationship with your banker or other financial advisor, ask questions and learn to trust their advice. evening and my self said, “I sure am thirsty and could go for a nice cold diet Pepsi.” Usually, I am beside my self, but this was one of those rare occasions when I was perfectly in harmony with my self. So I said, “Self, for once I agree with you. Let’s go get a soda.” And on that note, I set my sights on satiating both of our thirsts. Not far from my house is a grocery store that is open late Sunday night. I parked in the parking lot and moseyed on in to purchase a cold diet Pepsi. I thought of buying two, one for me and one for my self, but then how would I explain that to the Gracious Mistress of the Parsonage. I immediately found the soda and walked up to the cashier to pay for my purchase and then saunter on home and enjoy the diet Pepsi. Standing in line I overheard the gentleman in front of me talking to the cashier and being the astute person I am, gathered that they were married… to each other. After paying for his purchase the cashier stepped from a behind the cashier area and they hugged and kissed right there in front of God and everybody. Being two brain cells short of an idiot, I said loud enough so everybody could hear me, “I guess I got in the right line tonight.” Everybody looked at me and we all shared a wonderful and hearty laugh. I love it when a joke comes together. I cannot tell you how many times I have been on the backend of a joke that backfired. I hate it when a joke backfires, but when it is well timed and wondrously articulated, it is a joy forever. I turned and talked to the person behind me who thoroughly enjoyed the humor of the moment. I have found that humor brings more people together than anything else. And there is nothing like a good laugh to cheer a spirit that may be sagging for a moment. It seems everybody has problems these days, and a smile goes a long way. And in this, I am in complete harmony with the Bible. “A merry heart doeth good like a medicine: but a broken spirit drieth the bones” (Proverbs 17:22 KJV). And from some of the people I have encountered recently, there is a great need for this kind of medicine. Finally, it was my turn with the cashier. She greeted me warmly and then processed my purchase. We exchanged some pleasantries and then I was about to leave the store with my diet Pepsi. It was then that I was caught by surprise. The cashier stepped from behind her cashier’s post and said to me, “Sir, here’s your hug for tonight.” And before my two brain cells could get their act together, I was in the middle of a hug. When the aforementioned brain cells recovered, I finally thought, “I hope she’s not going to kiss me.” Thankfully, she didn’t. But the rest of the customers clapped rather heartily. Too heartily if you ask me. We often judge people according to our own personal preference. If we like something, we assume everybody else likes the same thing. If, on the other hand, we think something is wrong we believe everybody should have that same conviction. The apostle Paul dealt with this kind of thing in the days of the early church. “All things are lawful for me, but all things are not expedient: all things are lawful for me, but all April 17, 1983 - Alice Walker wins Pulitzer Prize for fiction for The Color Purple. things edify not” (1 Corinthians 10:23 KJV). Damn Right I’ll print It!

Exclusive: Halle Berry Talks to 'Extra' About Custody Case FROM LBT ENTERTAINMENT REPORTS "It's been a year full of challenges," Halle Berry acknowledged, after opening up to "Extra's" Terri Seymour about her work with Jenesse center, and for the first time about her very public custody case involving Nahla, with her ex, Gabriel Aubry. Extra The custody proceedings have gone well, and the actress revealed, "When there's a child involved, it's a relief when you can resolve things in a good way. Our issues were never about fighting for her. We both know a child needs both her parents. But what I want to say about it is sometimes, as a couple, you reach an impasse. We need a court and a judge to help us work out some of the delicate issues, and I'm so happy we've arrived at that place -- because for her sake, this is the best way. We both love her more than life." Halle Through the Years Berry was honored at the Jenesse Center's Annual Silver Rose Gala for her "What a Little Love Can Do" project, which renovates apartments at Los Angeles' Jenesse Center, a transitional housing shelter for victims of domestic violence. "There's such a stigma that goes a long with a shelter, and I thought if we can make shelter life be something for them to aspire to have when they leave here, we'll have done something really good," she explained. Shedding light on how her involvement with the Jenesse Center hits close to home, Halle said, "I care so much about women and I care so much about children. I've had certain experiences in my life that make it easy for me to understand the hardships that women face; the hardships that children face. And because it's so personal for me, it's a way that I sort of get to extricate my own demons by doing something good to help others. It's really fulfilling work that I get to do."

Captian Ed Freeman You're a 19 year old kid. And you're critically wounded and dying in the jungle somewhere in the Central Highlands of Viet Nam. It's November 11, 1967. LZ (landing zone) X-ray. Your unit is outnumbered 8-1 and the enemy fire is so intense from 100 yards away, that your CO (commanding officer) has ordered the MedEvac helicopters to stop coming in. You're lying there, listening to the enemy machine guns and you know you're not getting out. Your family is half way around the world, 12,000 miles away, and you'll never see them again. As the world starts to fade in and out, you know this is the day. Then - over the machine gun noise - you faintly hear that sound of a helicopter. You look up to see a Huey coming in. But.. It doesn't seem real because no MedEvac markings are on it. Captain Ed Freeman is coming in for you. He's not MedEvac so it's not his job, but he heard the radio call and decided he's flying his Huey down into the machine gun fire anyway. Even after the MedEvacs were ordered not to come. He's coming anyway. And he drops it in and sits there in the machine gun fire, as they load 3 of you at a time on board. Then he flies you up and out through the gunfire to the doctors and nurses and safety. And, he kept coming back!! 13 more times!! Until all the wounded were out. No one knew until the mission was over or that the Captain had been hit 4 times in the legs and left arm. He took 29 of you and your buddies out that day. Some would not have made it without the Captain and his Huey. Medal of Honor Recipient, Captain Ed Freeman, United States Air Force, died last Wednesday at the age of 70, in Boise , Idaho May God Bless and Rest His Soul. I bet you didn't hear about this hero's passing, but we've sure seen a whole bunch about Lindsay Lohan, Tiger Woods and the bickering of congress over Health Reform. Plane with Michelle Obama had to abort landing due to mistake BY: BLACKAMERICAWEB.COM STAFF

A White House plane carrying Michelle Obama came dangerously close to a 200-ton military cargo jet and had to abort its landing at Andrews Air Force Base on Monday -- the result of an air traffic controller’s mistake, according to The Washington Post. The Post reported that air traffic controllers at Andrews Air Force base feared the cargo jet would not clear the runway in time, said the officials. FAA officials confirmed that the First Lady was aboard the plane but had no additional immediate comment. The First Lady’s office had no immediate comment. According to the Post, the Federal Aviation Administration -- which is already dealing with a series of controversies involving air traffic controllers sleeping on the job, sent a team of investigators Tuesday to the Warrenton radar control center, the scene of the mistake. “The first lady was returning from a television appearance and other events with Jill Biden in New York and was aboard a Boeing 737 that is part of the presidential fleet of jets when the error occurred on final approach to Andrews,” the Post reported. “The controllers in the tower at Andrews recognized that the massive C-17 and the Obama flight, designated EXEC1F, a classification for a plane carrying members of the president’s family, were far too close when the Warrenton controller handed off responsibility for the two aircraft,” according to the Post. “They ordered the Obama plane to execute a series of S-turns in an effort to create a safe distance between it and the C-17, federal officials said, the Post reported. “When those maneuvers failed to achieve the required distance between the two planes and the Andrews controllers realized the cargo jet would not have time to get off the runway before the presidential plane arrived they aborted landing of the Obama plane and ordered it to circle the airport.” "The manager and tower controller at Andrews did several things to try to increase

First Lady Michelle Obama the separation on final approach before ordering a go-around," a senior FAA manager familiar with the incident told the Post. The FAA manager said that the TRACON controller exhibited "really bad controller technique." "Not only did he get them too close, he told the Andrews controller that they were farther apart than they were," he told the Post. The planes were dangerously close -- 3.08 miles apart. Over the past few days, Michelle Obama has been traveling to military bases to support military families. Last week, she traveled to a Marine base in North Carolina. Mrs. Obama told the crowd at a Camp Lejeune field house that the desire to increase the appreciation of military families is part of why she and Jill Biden, the wife of the vice president, are promoting a new program to support military families. "This is a challenge to every segment of American society not to simply say thank you but to mobilize, take action and make a real commitment to supporting our military families," Mrs. Obama said. The White House spouses are calling on businesses, nonprofits and communities to help military families challenged by frequent moves and the emotional strain of having loved ones far away, facing wartime peril.

atmosphere. The American Le Mans at Long Beach will be Magnus Racing’s second GT-C race of the season, and their last until the Baltimore Grand Prix in September. However, after being taken out of contention while leading the class in the eighth hour of the Mobil 1 12 Hours of Sebring, the team is eager to get the ‘Party Barge’ – the name bestowed on the team’s ALMS Porsche, in honor of the turn 10 crowd at Sebring – into victory circle. “Without a doubt, we have some unfinished business in GT-C,” said Potter. “We were really robbed of our chance in Sebring. That’s just part of endurance racing, but it doesn’t make it much easier. We have a team that can win and that’s what we are setting out to do in Long Beach.” The American Le Mans at Long Beach weekend began last Friday morning. And on April 16th – Living near the Grand Prix Circuit in Long Beach, Craig Stanton was more than a little motivated about competing in this weekend’s American Le Mans Series race at the world famous street circuit. His no. 77 Magnus Racing Porsche 911 GT3 Cup, which was sponsored for the weekend by local hotspot Roscoe’s House of Chicken ‘n Waffles, would line up fourth in the GT-C class for Saturday’s two-hour ALMS contest. Two hours later, the team would be celebrating their second podium in only three races in the ALMS, albeit with a bit of controversy as Stanton and Dion von Moltke’s no. 68 made contact down the back straightaway while contesting for the third spot. Team owner John Potter took the green flag to start the race, battling for second place in the first hour while conquering the challenges of making room for faster prototype traffic around the tricky confines of a street course. The team split strategies with the leaders during an early yellow, electing not to pit, which created a real strategy situation for all teams as they gambled on when another yellow might fall. An anticipated mid-race caution period unfortunately never came, and the no. 77 spent a long time on fading tires, with Potter doing his best to keep pace with the leading pack. Handing the car over to teammate Craig Stanton with under an hour to go, an uncharacteristic spin from Stanton set up the chase at the end with von Moltke, which saw him claw back the thirty-second lead that von Moltke enjoyed The race was viewed live in its entirety on ESPN3.com, and on ESPN2. Fans of Magnus Racing reportedly followed the team throughout the weekend on Facebook (facebook. com/magnusracing) and twitter (@magnusracing). Little-Known Black History Fact: Black Caesar

BY: ERICA TAYLOR Black Caesar was an African pirate who was famous for raiding ships in the Florida Keys. Black Caesar was an African pirate who was famous for raiding ships in the Florida Keys and serving as chief lieutenant for the famous Captain Blackbeard aboard the ship Queen Anne’s Revenge. A large man known for his intelligence, Black Caesar was a tribal chieftain in West Africa. Many slave traders had tried to capture him; one was successful. Caesar and his warriors were lured onto a ship by a trader who offered to show them jewelry and other riches that were too heavy to bring to shore. Once they were onboard, the ship raised anchor and sailed away. Caesar and his men put up a fight, but weren’t a match against the pistols and swords. Under captivity, Caesar refused to eat. After Black Caesar finally befriending one of his captors, he would only accept food from him on the voyage. That same sailor would help him attack the captain during a hurricane and escape. The men jumped ship to a longboat, taking guns and ammunition. Caesar and his men sailed the Florida Keys posing as shipwrecked sailors, luring ships into traps to be attacked. For years, this was the routine for Caesar and the sailor, until their relationship was ruined over a woman who was brought from one of their raids. Caesar killed his friend over the spat and claimed the woman. Caesar built a crew and harbored on the Mangrove Islands. It was said that he had a harem of female hostages and a prison camp. When he and his crew abandoned the island, he left the prisoners to starve, though some of the children escaped. During the 18th century, Caesar joined forces with Captain Blackbeard to raid the midAtlantic. He was appointed to chief lieutenant. When Blackbeard was killed, Caesar tried to cause an explosion on land. He was captured, tried for piracy and hung in Williamsburg, Virginia. Caesar's Rock, one of three islands north of Key Largo, is named in his honor, commemorating his original headquarters.

AUTO BURGLARIES IN EAST DIVISION FROM LBT CRIME REPORTS In recent weeks, there has been an increase in auto burglaries occurring in the East Division. Although many of the incidents have occurred in the in the area bordered by Cherry Avenue on the west, Pacific Coast Highway on the north, Redondo Avenue on the east, and Second Street on the south, residents citywide are being encouraged to use precaution. In most of these cases, the vehicle’s window was smashed to gain entry. Some of the loss from these burglaries has included purses, laptops, and small electronics such as GPS devices, cellular phones, and MP3 players. Most of the time, auto burglaries are crimes of opportunity that may have been avoided if simple preventative steps had been taken. You may be able to prevent yourself from becoming a victim by practicing the following safety tips: • Keep your vehicle locked at all times. • Never leave valuables in plain sight. • Keep all packages and valuables locked in the trunk, or take them with you. • If you must leave valuables in your vehicle, place them in the trunk prior to arriving at your destination. • If your trunk can be opened from inside your car without a key, lock this feature or have it disabled if possible. • Do not leave any connector cables (GPS, phone, MP3) or docking stations in plain sight, this may give the impression that you have electronics somewhere inside. • Never leave even loose change in plain sight; in some cases that is enough to prompt a break-in. • Park in well-lighted areas when able. • Be sure to activate your alarm system, and if you don’t have one, consider getting one. • Once home, unload your valuables immediately. Do not store them in your car longer than necessary. Additional tips: • Always report suspicious individuals or activity right away by calling 9-1-1 or (562) 435-6711. • Note the serial numbers of all electronic devices. This helps Police return stolen property to its rightful owner if recovered. Don’t make yourself an easy target; follow these easy tips to reduce the chances of being a victim of auto burglary. Curbing Bhavior - Real Sports BY RON CARTER “Real Sports With Bryant Gumbel” is arguably one of the best sports show on television. Bryant and his colleagues usually produce some of today’s most controversial, well executed and newsworthy issues in sports. The recent episode of “Real Sports” which centered around the question, “should college athletes be paid for playing sports?” though provocative was also a cautionary debate of what’s wrong with the National Collegiate Bryant Gumbel Athletic Association’s (NCAA) policy regarding compensating college athletes. The round-table discussion with guests Billy Packer, college basketball analyst; Rich Rodriguez, former football coach of University of Michigan; Jason Whitlock, sports journalist; Jeffrey Orleans, former commissioner of the Ivy League and Gumbel was spirited and informative, but it left a few questions unanswered. Packer and Rodriguez were against paying college athletes while Gumbel, Whitlock and Orleans were in favor of paying the athletes. College athletes are fueling a multi-BILLION DOLLARS industry, college sports, which do not compensate them fairly for the billions of dollars and notoriety they bring to their schools. Most of the athletes recruited to play college sports are from poor and middle class families. Thus, the opportunity to play college sports and eventually have a professional sports career is alluring to the recruits. The question is, “are they prepared to take advantage of the opportunity,” asked Jason Whitlock. I believe that most of them are not. I also believe that the statement made by Bernard Goldberg, a regular journalist on “Real Sports” who was assigned to conduct the interviews for the episode, was the most poignant remark. He intimated that the NCAA has a great business model as a matter of fact it’s the “only one” of its kind in America. The model is ”you make billions of dollars, but you don’t have to pay the employees anything.” The colleges make hundreds of millions of dollars, the coaches make millions and the athletes, some of them, cannot even afford food and the opportunity to visit their families at the end of the football season. Though the NCAA is a benevolent institution, it must do more financially for its college athletes. It’s one of the only ways to eliminate some of the bad behavior (cheating and grafting) that is taking place in college sports. After all, college students studying other professions are allowed to make money while in college, why shouldn’t college athletes have the same opportunities.

finish the drink. "She (waitress) tried to take the drink and leave the shake and I said no, leave the drink and go get your manager. And that's when I pulled out my camera phone and I took pictures. And after I took the pictures, I called the police," Davis says. Brooklyn was diagnosed with alcohol ingestion overdose at a local hospital. A police report has been filed. Chili's officials dispute the family's version of what happened and is investigating the incident.

Panthers Shut Out by Lancers BY WILFRED PHILLIPS It was a cool night for baseball at Blair Field, Tuesday evening. The LB Jordan Panthers hosted the Lakewood Lancers, who are the only team that represents the Moore League in the top ten rankings of the Pac 5 baseball polls. The game started late due Wilfred Phillips to grounds keeping from a prior game. The starting pitcher for Jordan was Sr. Roger Hokanson. The Lancers had their hard throwing pitching ace Shane Watson, on the mound. The opening innings saw both pitchers feeling out the top of each team’s line up. It was in the top of the second inning when the Lancers began scoring runs. Several walks, hit batters, stolen bases, and over thrown balls loaded the bases which drove in runs. Panther coach Marc Prager, called Manuel Muro, to the mound in a pitching change, but the hot bats of the Lancers caused the coach to make several pitching changes throughout the entire game. Lancer infielder J.P. Crawford showed his base running expertise with a line drive that bounced off the left field wall that the outfielders of Jordan had trouble fielding the ball which gave speedster Crawford a rare in the park home run. He was thrown out at the plate by the home plate umpire for not tagging third base. The Lancers scored a run in the fourth inning, but the real excitement came in the sixth inning when Lancer Nick Torres lined one over the left field wall a distant of 348 ft. which had Lancer fans cheering as he drove in runs. Before the inning was over more runs scored making the final score Lancers 15-Panthers 0. In the Moore League standing Lakewood is in first place followed by LB Wilson and LB Poly. There is plenty of baseball left. Get out and enjoy Moore League baseball at Blair Field. Check listings for when your school is playing.

Moms: Go from Lack to Abundance in 5 Simple Steps BY TERRY AMOS-BRITT Lack. It is what drives us in our need to compete and get ahead. Greed comes from lack. War stems from lack. Gossiping, bullying, peer pressure, anger, judgment, blame, resentment, sadness and often depression are derived from a sense of lack. What is lack? It is a feeling of insufficiency, a desire for the things you believe you don’t have. My teenage daughters constantly remind me of the lack in our world. My youngest, Kolbi, often comes home from high school sharing stories of how girls bully each other. They are like pack animals. As soon as one steps out of the crowd to be different, the pack lashes out. I’m sure you’ve heard the Terry Amos-Britt saying, “Women are so catty.” The reason for this is lack, too. If a woman feels good about herself, she has no reason to attack. So where does the lack in our world come from? It begins in the home. I am a spiritual coach, but I am a mom first. Like so many moms, for years I felt a sense of lack in my life. I felt less than. I believed that my children and spouse mattered more than I did. I tried to prove my sense of worthiness by doing everything for my family. I wanted to be the best. I thought the love for my family is what drove me. But when I looked deep within, I knew that it was an inner lack that pushed me. I wanted to experience love. I wanted to feel abundant. I wanted to feel whole. The key word here is “wanted.” I was looking for this love from the outside world. I wanted people to fill me up. I was performing for love. I truly believed that by doing everything right as a mom, I would in return be loved. But instead of feeling whole, I became controlling, angry, sad, frustrated and filled with resentment. What I soon realized was that my negative reactions were directly correlated with how much I denied myself. And in my self-denial, I disconnected from my heart, perpetuating a cycle of pain and suffering. By performing, always seeking love and abundance from my outer world, I was setting a tone of lack for my whole family. It’s not what we do for our families but how we live our lives that impacts them the most. Here are a few simple steps to get started: 1.Ask yourself, "How does lack show up in my life?" When you walk into a room, do you feel as if you belong? Or do you feel alone? Do you find yourself angry, jealous, resentful, run-down or sad? Are you buried in guilt? Do you knock others down so that you might feel better about yourself? Do you hold your voice in? Are you letting your kids, your friends, your spouse or a boss run over you? Do you feel as if there is not enough money to go around? Make a list of the situations and relationships where lack reveals itself in your life. 2.Let your feelings be the guide. They tell you when you are disconnected from your heart. Go down your list. Which of these situations makes you feel the most emotional? Think about how it's affecting your life. Allow yourself to feel everything. 3.Ask yourself, "What is the false belief I'm holding on to that keeps me in lack with this situation?" Think of the false beliefs in your mind as rules you believe you must follow to experience love. Anything that takes you away from feeling joyful, abundant and loving is a sign that you're denying yourself and still performing. 4.Release the belief by asking, "What would love look like?" Give yourself permission to stand in your truth, knowing that this is the loving thing to do for your family. 5.Take inspired action. As you listen to the messages in your heart and take action, you create a Divine connection, finally experiencing the abundance you've been seeking. We mommas tend to think that we will be selfish if we stop denying ourselves. However, true selfishness is when we perpetuate a cycle of pain and suffering. Your greatest act of service is to say yes to your heart, becoming an example of peace, light and love for your family and the world.
