Celebcity with Jo Brooks Sharleen Spiteri in your local, Pete’s tweets for Mysterious Girl, and everyone’s crazy for vajazzles

THE ONLY WAY IS SUSSEX Since the first episode of hit ITV2 show The Only Way Is Essex aired recently, everyone’s been talking about vajazzles. Vajazzling involves sticking small decorative jewels onto your skin resulting in a blinging bikini area! In the first episode, beautician Amy, one of the stars of the series, gave her friend and client Sam a vajazzle. Minutes later this Hollywood treatment became a trending topic on social networking site Twitter with girls all over the country talking about having one! Even Alan Carr got involved, tweeting about vajazzling! According to ITV2, 54 per cent of women say they now want a vajazzle! The Lanes Health and Beauty in Brighton have had constant calls with local girls wanting one! Julie will launch this treatment on 29 October in the salon and will charge £10. There is already a waiting list. Sign me up!

illion-selling Scottish singer Sharleen Spiteri performed a special stripped down acoustic gig in an intimate venue last Thursday. The appearance was part of the weekly open mic night hosted by Brighton’s Juice 107.2 FM DJs Andrea Fox and Tony Marks at The Windmill Pub on Upper North Street. The event showcases local talent and features special acoustic sets from the cream of Brighton’s bands. The former Texas frontwoman played three songs selected from a catalogue spanning 20 years. After asking the audience if they were up for joining her in a good old sing-song, Sharleen opened her set with the top 10 hit from 1989 ‘I Don't Need A Lover’. She even performed an extra track for the lucky crowd after they begged the singer for more. The crowd were treated to her top 10 1997 hit with Texas, ‘Halo’. Ramona The successful Scottish singer said: “I never get to play gigs like this anymore... I’ll come back every Thursday if you’ll have me!” Sharleen is keeping busy, what with releasing solo material, performing in our local, and appearing on Sky1’s Must Be The Music show with Jamie Cullum and Dizzee Rascal. The star also manages Ramona, a four-piece Brighton band who have drawn comparisons to The Ramones, Blondie and The Strokes with their modern female-fronted pop tunes. Ramona also performed at the open mic night, playing an acoustic set of four songs, before heading off on a UK tour supporting US artist Lissie. Ramona, fronted by the gorgeous Karen Anne, are surely set for stardom.

I was delighted to be tweeted by Peter Andre last week. The star was posting about his new fragrance but just referred to it as MG. Thinking it was a bit odd that it was named after a small British sports car – I sent him a tweet asking what the initials stood for. To my surprise he tweeted immediately saying ‘@Brightonseagull it stands for Mysterious Girl!’ Glad you cleared that up for us Peter. You can catch Peter live as he will be playing the Brighton Centre in February next year.
