When they named us I said: “OK. This is oursâ€?. And when they mentioned our names the public exploded. The week after I won, my Dad (Aldo Aurelio SĂĄnchez) died and all my relations –cousins and brothers – went to Comodoro. I was left here on my own with my uncle and Carlitos PĂŠrez.

ÂżOrganizaste, entonces, tu carrera o todo se fue dando? Muchas cosas se fueron dando y tambiĂŠn fui mechando la facultad y el tango. Yo sĂŠ adĂłnde quiero llegar. Lo Ăşnico que nunca supe fue que iba a ser bailarĂ­n, como tampoco me imagino ejerciendo en un consultorio como psicĂłlogo.

So have you organized your career or has it all just fallen into place? Lots of things just fell into place but I’ve also been putting a lot into university and tango. I know where I want to get to. The only thing I never knew was that I was going to be a dancer, like I don’t imagine myself working in a consultancy as a psychologist.

Y que la gente tenga no solo un estudio de clases o ensayos, sino un lugar de tango, donde se sienta cómoda. Ya había hecho viajes, me di el gusto de trabajar en casas de tango, y bueno, lo empecÊ a meditar, me decidí y busquÊ un lugar en Palermo.

When did the idea of having your own studio come up? The Studio came about from the need to have a place of my own. And for people to have not just a studio for lessons or practice, but rather a tango place, where you feel at ease. I had already done trips, I indulged myself working at tango venues, and well, I started thinking about it and I decided to look for a place in Palermo.

Los bailarines tenemos la visión de bailar afuera, pero nos olvidamos de nuestra ciudad, de nuestro país. El tango vive acå. ¿QuÊ es eso de temporada alta y baja? Hay que apostar al tango de Buenos Aires los 365 días del aùo.

<RX VDLG WR PH EHIRUH ´<RX KDYH WR VWD\ DQG GR WKLQJV LQ \RXU RZQ country.â€? For me there isn’t a city like Buenos Aires. As dancers we have the vision of dancing abroad, but we forget about our city, our country. Tango lives here. What’s this about a high season and a low season? You have to take a stand for the tango of Buenos Aires 365 days a year.

BailĂŠ con ella en el homenaje que le hicieron en el Luna Park. Es un placer verla, escucharla hablar. ¢(O PHMRU FRQVHMR TXH UHFLELVte en tu vida cuĂĄl fue? Con respecto a la vida, siempre fui observando a mis viejos, siempre han sido personas muy generosas, con todo el mundo. Y con respecto al baile, me pasĂł igual. Admiro a muchos bailarines y trato de imitarlos sobre cĂłmo se manejan en la milonga y en la vida. Por ejemplo, nunca tomĂŠ clases con Carlos Rivarola, pero me parece un referente importante, me gusta su forma, su baile. Es un maestro. ¢&yPR seleccionĂĄs a los maestros para que dicten clases en tu estudio? Elijo los maestros, principalmente, por su calidad de persona, ademĂĄs de su trayectoria. Este es un lugar donde van a disfrutar del tango. Hay jĂłvenes con mucho tango y mucho talento. Me interesa que estĂŠn acĂĄ. /D ~OWLPD ¢4Xp HV WX EDODQce de este mes de agosto que pasĂł? El balance es muy positivo. A mi estudio llegaron tangueros de todo el mundo y se sienten cĂłmodos a la hora de ensayar y tomar clases. Es un lugar muy cĂĄlido en donde los bailarines me dicen que se inspiran, y eso es muy importante. La gente viene cada aĂąo mĂĄs entusiasmada y con ganas de aprender, pero, como te dije anteriormente, no hay que tener el foco solo en agosto sino en todo el aĂąo para que el tango siga mĂĄs vivo que nunca en el paĂ­s y en Buenos Aires.

It’s a very friendly place where the dancers tell me they are inspired, and that’s very important. People come here more enthusiastic every year and keen to learn, but, as I told you previously, one mustn’t focus solely on August but rather on the whole year so that tango continues more alive than ever in the country and in Buenos Aires.

AdiĂłs al Maestro Horacio SalgĂĄn El 15 de junio pasado habĂ­a soplado la velita con el nĂşmero 100 sobre su torta de cumpleaĂąos. Fue a primera hora de la tarde, junto a su hijo &pVDU 6DOJiQ. Los dos se quedaron por un instante, meditando sobre “ese 100â€?, tiempo de vida inalcanzable para la mayorĂ­a de los mortales. Por la noche, se le hizo un homenaje en el CCK. Horacio SalgĂĄn era una leyenda viva. Pero cuando el 19 de agosto, exhalĂł su Ăşltimo suspiro la noticia impregnĂł al Festival de Tango de la ciudad de un sabor sombrĂ­o, solo aliviado por el legado sublime y maravilloso de su mĂşsica. Gracias a la direcciĂłn perspicaz de Gabriel Soria, se le realizaron numerosos homenajes a este pianista, compositor, arreglador y director que apenas tenĂ­a 10 aĂąos cuando comenzĂł a tocar de pantalĂłn corto en un cine de barrio para musicalizar las pelĂ­culas del cine mudo. Creador de un estilo, del cĂŠlebre dĂşo SalgĂĄn-De LĂ­o y del Quinteto Real, dejĂł tĂ­tulos inigualables y a su hijo, como su sucesor. 3RFRV SHUR ϧHOHV DPLJRV GHVSLGLHURQ OD PDxDQD GHO GtD VLJXLHQWH DO PDHVWURÂŹHQ OD FDVD YHODWRULD GH $YHQLGD &yUGRED DO GH QXHVWUD Capital. Horacio SalgĂĄn fue, es y serĂĄ un GRANDE de la mĂşsica popular argentina, irrepetible, y asĂ­ pasarĂĄ a la Historia. Gracias por tanta mĂşsica, maestro, Dios lo bendiga eternamente. Seguro que sĂ­. On 15th -XQH ODVW KH KDG EORZQ RXW WKH FDQGOH ZLWK WKH QXPEHU 100 on his birthday cake. It was early in the afternoon, along with his son &pVDU 6DOJiQ. The two of them remained for a moment, meditating on “that 100â€?, a lifetime unattainable for most mortals. That night a homage to him was given at the CCK. Horacio SalgĂĄn was a living legend. But when, on 19th August he breathed his last, the news imbued the city’s Tango Festival with a somber mood, only relieved by the sublime and wonderful legacy of his music. Thanks to the perspicacious directing by Gabriel Soria, numerous homages were made to this pianist, composer, arranger and director who was barely 10 when he started playing in short trousers in the neighborhood cinema giving background music to the world’s movies. Creator of a style, of the celebrated SalgĂĄn-De LĂ­o and of the Quinteto Real, he left unequalled titles and his son as his successor. A few faithful friends bade farewell to the maestro the following morning at the funeral parlor on Avenida CĂłrdoba in our capital city. An undeserved farewell to a genius of Argentine music, renowned all over the world. Seven IULHQGV KLJKOLJKWLQJ DQG SUDLVLQJ WKH SLDQLVW¡V JUHDW WDOHQW ÂŹ Rody Groppo ÂŹ -XDQ &DUORV &XDFFL -XDQ, Carmen, Dante $PLFDUHOOL¡V daughter, VĂ­ctor Olivero and two other friends. Surrounding the FRĎŤQ ϧYH ZUHDWKV IURP 6$'$,& $UJHQWRUHV $$', WKH 0LQLVWHU RI Culture ÉQJHO 0DKOHU and the National Tango Academy. Too much absence for one who had dedicated his life to Tango. At around 11a.m, DIWHU D ϧQDO DSSODXVH WKH PRUWDO UHPDLQV RIÂŹ Horacio SalgĂĄnÂŹ OHIW LQ the funeral hearse to go to the Chacarita cemetery. Horacio SalgĂĄn was, is and will always be a GREAT of Argentina’s popular music, unrepeatable, and so he will pass into history. Thank you, maestro, for so much music, may God bless you eternally. He certainly will. He had a “direct lineâ€? to the Creator.

Bajo la direcciĂłn del bandoneonista Daniel Binelli, se pudieron disfrutar de los arreglos que realizĂł Astor, incluyendo temas que nunca habĂ­an sido grabados y cerrando con una versiĂłn apoteĂłsica de “Taconeandoâ€?, la cual tuvieron que repetir ante la euforia del pĂşblico. Dancers and teachers, Graciela Gamba and Diego Converti, met because of tango and promote their passion for Tango in Europe. Back to the country, they told us their experiences.

ÂżCuĂĄl es el balance actual del camino que llevan recorriendo con el tango danza? Diego: Nuestro balance es muy positivo, ya que a lo largo de nuestros 15 aĂąos juntos hemos crecido como personas, como bailarines y profesores; nos ha permitido una gran experiencia laboral, la cual nos ha llevado a conocer mucha gente y muchĂ­simos lugares de todo el mundo, como tambiĂŠn tener la posibilidad de interiorizarnos cada vez mĂĄs en la enorme y hermosa cultura del tango.

What is your current assessment of the route you have been traveling with tango dancing? Diego: Our evaluation is very positive, since throughout the 15 years we’ve been together we’ve grown as people, as dancers and as teachers; it has given us a great work experience, which has led us to meet many people and taken us to loads of places all over the world, as well as having the chance to delve ever deeper into the huge and wonderful culture of tango.

It was also what allowed me to meet and get to know the love of my life and my present husband and partner. It gave me the chance to travel all over the world and do what I most like. In short, tango means a passionate life history that never ends. What is your schedule for the coming months of work? In the forthcoming months, we are booked up for doing group sessions in the Villa Crespo area, every Saturday from 4 to 7p.m, with the idea RI RϹHULQJ D PRUH HDV\ JRLQJ OHVVRQV DQG D ELW RI HYHU\WKLQJ WKDW LV Tango, Milonga, Vals, Practice and even a time for sharing over mate. This is at the Mariano Galeano school (Araoz 374). JuliĂĄn Hermida and Juanjo Hermida add passion for music to their friendship. Because we want it to be quite clear that it’s a CD of Latin American music, which goes beyond any particular genre. We’ve recorded a zamba, a number from Brazil, one by Spinetta in tango time and we have a variety of guest performers: Horacio Romo, Luis Salinas, Lito Vitale, Alicia Vignola, Juan Pablo Navarro, NicolĂĄs Guerschberg and “Nicoâ€?
