Get Active. Live Healthy!

As 2018 comes to a close, we reflect back on the year and look forward to what 2019 will bring. The winter months are a time to be grateful for what we have, and look to how we can help others. The Lafayette Recreation Department is grateful for the community’s support in the inaugural season of The Great Outdoors Waterpark. More than 30,000 visitors swam and played with us at the Waterpark this year! More than 100 staff members made the waterpark their top priority, working tirelessly to create a fun, active and accessible place for the Lafayette community. The Great Outdoors Waterpark definitely was the coolest spot in Boulder County! This milestone accomplishment for the department would not have been possible without your support. In 2019, we are again challenging ourselves to try something new, and we invite you to join us. At the Bob Burger Recreation Center, we are offering the Resolution Solution. This low cost, six-week program will help you develop and reach your fitness goals, aided by the support of a group of your peers, certified personal trainers and fitness instructors. No matter what your resolution, the Bob Burger Recreation Center staff is here to help you find the solution. Check out the details on the inside back cover. We encourage everyone to share your goals and accomplishments at the Rec Center. This January look for our Resolution Solution posting area in the main lobby, where you can share your successes, setbacks, and create accountability for the milestones that mean the most to you! Make 2019 the year that you allow the Bob Burger Recreation Center and the other wonderful Lafayette Recreation facilities be steps in your fitness journey; we’re excited to celebrate your success!

YOUTH

LAFAYETTE EXPLORERS For young children, meaningful and long lasting learning requires active thinking and experimenting to find out how things work. This is best accomplished through purposeful play facilitated by highly intentional teaching practices.

THE GOALS OF OUR CURRICULUM The most important goal of our early childhood curriculum is to help children become enthusiastic learners and form friendships. This means encouraging children to be active and creative explorers who are not afraid to try out their ideas and to think their own thoughts. We allow children to learn at their own pace and in the ways that are best for them. We establish good habits and attitudes, particularly a positive sense of self; making a difference in the rest of their lives. The activities we plan for children, the way we organize the environment, select toys and materials, plan the daily schedule, and talk with children, are all designed to accomplish the goals of our curriculum and give the children a successful start in school We provide opportunities for them to learn at their own pace and in the ways that are best for them.

SOCIAL: to help children feel comfortable in school, trust their new environment, make friends, and feel they are a part of the group.

EMOTIONAL: to help children experience pride and self confidence, develop independence and self-control, and form a positive attitude toward life.

COGNITIVE: to help children become confident learners by letting them try out their own ideas and experience success, and by helping them acquire learning skills such as the ability to solve problems, ask questions, and use words to describe their ideas, observations, and feelings.

PHYSICAL: to help children increase their large and small motor skills and feel confident about what their bodies can do.

► ALL PARTICIPANTS MUST BE POTTY TRAINED BY THE FIRST DAY OF CLASS. ► NUTRITION POLICY: We provide a valuable foundation for children to learn healthy habits. Our program encourages

nutritional snacks and incorporates activities that promote large motor movement, which are critical components in children’s development.

► THE 2018-2019 SCHOOL YEAR IS CURRENTLY

IN SESSION

We accept new family requests year-round. Request for enrollment is dependent on availability.
