KEY BEAUTY Marbella Beauty Academy Summer Make-Up Trends

By Marbella Beauty Academy

As we approach summer 2017 let’s take a minute to remember the 2016 make-up looks, Rainbow highlighter, over load contouring and more matte lip kits than ever seen. This summer it’s time to cool all that down as it’s going to be a scorcher. We want to go back to dewy skin, glossy lips and natural fluffy eyebrows. LIPS- It’s officially time to retire your matte lipstick and bring out your Glosses! It makes you look fresh giving you dimension, shine and youth. The colour of the Season is Orange! My favourite look is Apricot lips with bronzed skin and matching Apricot blush on the cheeks! It is a real winner for a summery look. Pale skins can still rock this look but if you want a more subdued look, nude gloss with nothing but sunglasses and a Kaftan always looks sexy on the beach. Cheeks Matching your lip gloss and blusher was all the range on the runways of S/S fashions week.

Brows When it comes to brows, it’s out with the overdone “dramatic” squared off Instagram arches it is starting to look a bit dated. Naturally groomed, straight brows or scruffy brushed up make you look younger. Give the tweezers and powders a rest and reach for tinted gel to hold freshly brushed brows, and if needed fill in with pencil. This is only some of the many looks coming this summer. For festival party lovers, sparkles are not just for Christmas, seen at the S/S 2017 Luisa Beccaria models lids were loaded with sparkle packed shadows. Also flower crowns are out! For the boho lovers, trade in your crown for embellishments on your chest and arms either with glitter or flowers - this will look awesome for a pool party or Festival! MBA…….. KEY FEATURE 5 Do’s for being Self-employed in Spain During 2016, Costa Women launched an ebook called Spain & Me. One of the chapters covered 10 do’s for being self-employed in Spain by Joanna Styles of http://www. guidetomalaga.com. The first 5 tips are abridged below and you can download the whole ebook at https://costawomen. com/help/contact. “The employment situation in Spain ranks among the worst in the EU. As well as high unemployment, wages are notoriously low while hours can be extremely long. And your contract may only be temporary. An obvious solution is to go the self-employed route. Not only will you be your own boss doing what you want to do, you’ll be able to decide how and when you want to do it. This sounds like the perfect scenario and not for nothing are small and medium enterprises the backbone of the Spanish economy. But while being self-employed is a great option especially in today’s internet-driven world, there are some pitfalls and obstacles on the way. In addition, Spain isn’t particularly selfemployed friendly. However, with careful planning there’s no reason why you can’t make a success of going it alone. 1. Know your Niche Before you become officially self-employed, take a look at what you’re going to offer. To make a success of going it alone, you need to offer a unique service or product, or do something better than your competitors. Define your unique selling points (USPs). These will help you in two ways: firstly, to market your service or product and by extension, get clients; and secondly, help you define your market niche so you know who to target.

8

KEY TO MIJAS COSTA

Provided by Ali Meehan

2. Do your Market Research first To make a success of your self-employment, you need to sell your service or product. But first you need to find your clients. Don’t underestimate the Spanish market – it’s almost always bigger than you think. For example, on the Costa del Sol 87 per cent of the registered population is Spanish. Importantly for businesses, the Spanish population is much more stable than the expat – foreigners tend to come and go while the Spanish will stay for several years. Even if your Spanish language skills (see 3 below) aren’t fluent, you can still provide the Spaniards with your services or products. For example, as a copywriter I can give Spanish businesses help with their marketing materials in English. 3. Learn Spanish In many parts of Spain popular with expats it’s often all too easy to get by with nothing more than a few words in Spanish. After all, everyone speaks some English and you can always resort to sign language. But if you’re hoping to make a serious go of being self-employed in Spain you need to make the effort to learn Spanish to a reasonable level. 4. Go Legal Once you’ve made the decision to go self-employed, you need to do it legally. Don’t be tempted by payments in cash, by PayPal etc. You might be able to stay under the taxman’s radar for a bit (and only then if you manage to keep your earnings low), but sooner or later you will have to register. 5. Take Professional Advice In the beginning, take professional advice from an accountant about tax rates, invoicing, expenses and filing tax returns. https://costawomen.com is a free website for Women moving to, or living in Spain.

KEY HEALTH The Sparkle is back in my Eyes What is Sea Buckthorn Oil? Sea Buckthorn is a berry bush found in Asia and Europe. The berry has been used in traditional Asian medicine for more than a thousand years. In the past few decades, scientists from the University of Turku, Finland, have carried out extensive research into sea buckthorn which has resulted in improved understanding of the health effects the berry has to offer. Sea buckthorn oil is rich in beta carotene, vitamins and omegas 3, 6, 7 & 9. Why take Omega 7 ®? Dry Eyes? Dry Mouth? Intimate Dryness? Modern research has found that sea buckthorn oil is an important source of polyunsaturated fatty acids (particularly Omega 7). Polyunsaturated fatty acids are important structural components of mucous membranes which form the protective lubricating lining of internal organs such as vaginal, digestive and respiratory tracts, as well as the surface of the eyes and mouth. Mucous membranes may become dry as a result of ageing or environmental factors. Sea buckthorn oil may therefore help to maintain healthy mucous membranes, as a source of nutrients required to main their structure and function. Linda Lusardi Loves Omega 7 “It has been life changing for me, I no longer need my eye drops and Omega 7 benefits so many other areas of the body that it is a must in my daily routine” Q. How did you discover Omega 7? A. I wanted natural help for my dry eyes, which have plagued me for about 10 years. I was tired of using drops and feeling uncomfortable. I found out that other people with my problem use sea buckthorn oil to provide moisture from the inside. Q. Tell us more about your problem A. My eyes felt dry and gritty most days, and also they would become red and sore. It would flare up when I was under artificial lighting, in air conditioned rooms or when I wore false eyelashes. It also seemed to worsen after I had my two children. I was forced to use eye drops every single morning. If I ever forgot my drops, my eyes would be terrible all day and people would think I’d been crying! Q. How has Omega 7 helped you? A. No more eye drops and no more discomfort! With TV and

photographic work I do, it’s important that my eyes look clear and healthy. Omega 7 has helped me achieve that. Q. How long did it take to work for you? A. I took two capsules in the morning and two at night and I started to see an improvement in a fortnight. After a few more weeks I was able to stop using my eye drops. Q. Do you recommend it to others? A. Absolutely! It has been life changing for me. Sea buckthorn benefits so many other areas of the body that it is now a must in my daily routine. Pharma Nord’s Omega 7 is made to such high standards that I know my health is in good hands. 100% natural. Totally unique.

KEY HEALTH What is Acupressure with Meridian Massage? Being a Complementary Therapist with almost 20 years of experience, I have always looked ‘beyond’ what a client presents me with. I have always relied on my intuition to ‘fathom out’ why, how and from where the problem originates – and it’s hardly ever where the client thought it was! It is for this reason that I have always been attracted to Chinese medicine and its holistic approach to healing. I have recently completed an in-depth course on Acupressure with Meridian Massage, which involved many, many hours of study which I admit, took over my life. I am now very happy to report that I am now qualified to treat clients, happy in the knowledge that all of my guinea pigs survived! Meridian Massage, drawn from the ancient tradition of Classical Chinese Massage is applied in the context of our modern Western world. It is a combination of elements of Classical Chinese medical theory, Western massage techniques and Chinese massage techniques. Chinese Classical Medicine has its roots in Taoism, the main philosophy of ancient China about 5000 years ago. You may have heard of Yin and Yang. This dynamism is a fundamental principle of Chinese medicine. It is all about balance and har-

mony within the body and in Nature. Qi, pronounced chee, is another fundamental part of Chinese medicine. Qi is the energy of life. Qi flows through the body within Meridians (channels). These meridians cannot be seen, just as Qi cannot be seen. They are located in anatomically precise lines throughout the body. Qi is stored, transformed and released by Organs. Every meridian is rooted to an Organ. To access the Qi, we use Acupoints. These points can be found in anatomical places along a meridian where it can be ‘treated’ or contacted in order to help Qi return to its balanced flow. As long as Qi is plentiful and flowing through all the meridians, life is also balanced and harmonious. As a practitioner, I have learnt how to use the flow of Qi in the meridians and the acupoints to directly support and re-balance the Qi to resolve the root of physical ailments. I am now offering Acupressure with Meridian Massage treatments at Clinica Medicare in La Cala de Mijas and also in Fuengirola. If you would like to find out more about this wonderful therapy or would like to book a treatment, please call me on 666 170 868 or the Clinic on 952 835 776.

KEY HEALTH Tasty Vegetarian Meals

By Jon Stark

Previously, like a lot of young men, I had a very poor diet. I was the type of person that would drink loads of sugary drinks, goods from the bakery and meat. About three years ago I took up a vegetarian cooking class that changed my way of looking at food. I got to learn how to cook better options of food that still taste good! What I learned was that vegetarian food is knowing how to season your vegetables. That’s why I subsequently took up a nutritionist course - to learn how the body works, what it needs and how to supply it with the right nutrients to keep it in good health. I suggest you start gently and then expand your taste buds! The first thing is that it would be a good idea to add juicing or blending to your diet, which is a great way to add the 7-aday vegetables and fruit that is recommended by any doctor to keep your body health. Why not try mixing a combination of fruit and vegetables? For example, you could add some spinach, 6 strawberries, a cup of water, tsp. maca powder, tsp. Organic Super Mix (it’s made of chlorella, spirulina, barley grass and wheatgrass). You might also want to add a banana or kiwi fruit to taste. The super mix is great for those with an underactive thyroid. It will activate your metabolism thanks to the iodine as well as detoxify your body from the inside from heavy metals and toxins that we absorb from pollution and other contaminants which need a little help to expel them from the body. Another thing we should all try is to add more raw vegetables to our diet. The reason for this is to achieve great enzymes, vitamins, and phytonutrients from your vegetables, that will make your body thrive, not just survive. Here is a very simple, but tasty vegetarian recipe.

Raw Courgette Pasta with Bolognaise Sauce Ingredients Pasta: 1 courgette spiralised in a Spiromat Bolognaise Sauce: 1 tsp Coconut Virgin Extra Oil 1Onion, diced 3 Garlic Cloves, crushed 4 Sun-dried Tomatoes, thinly sliced 1 Red Pepper (2 if small), thinly sliced 4 Fresh Tomatoes, diced 1 cup Natural Cashew Nuts, blended 1 tsp. Himalayan Pink Salt 2 tbsp. Oregano 1 and a half tbsp Cumin Powder ½ tsp. Black Pepper 200ml Tomato Sauce (approx) ½ Cup Water (if necessary) First prepare the Bolognaise, add the coconut oil to a pan with the onion, garlic and red pepper. Fry it all in the pan until it starts to get soft. Add the spices and the sun dried tomatoes. Let it cook slowly. Next add the fresh diced tomatoes and cook for a little longer. Once almost cooked, add the cashews and let it soak up the moisture. Now add the tomato sauce and, if needed, the water. The Bolognaise sauce should be nice and thick. Tip Personally, I like to pass over the Bolognaise sauce with a hand blender and then pulse through it all to make it smooth and creamy.

KEY SPORTS Champions League & Golf Roundup Leicester were eliminated at the quarter final stage of the Champions League to Athletico Madrid after a hotly disputed penalty where Albrighton appeared to trip Griezmann outside of the box gave Madrid a 1-0 win. Leicester could only manage a 1-1 draw in the home tie, Jamie Vardy giving them half an hour of hope after scrambling an equaliser. Athletico went through 2-1 on aggregate. ‘Athletico showed their class in the first half and were on top. However Leicester changed their system in the second half and were spirited – 2 chances were cleared off the line,’ said a supporter who attended the match. ‘Leicester can be proud of their run in the Champions League – but it was never a penalty in the first leg. Another observer remarked, ‘In the afternoon before the kick-off, it was nice to see all the Spanish supporters in their shirts, scarfs, hats and flags sitting out in the pubs in the sunshine in Leicester City centre, it was like being in Spain, well apart from the beach anyway. But then again Madrid hasn’t got a beach either has it? 2017 MASTERS GOLF (April 6-9) Danny Willett began the defence of his Masters title with a double bogey at the first. England had 11 representatives in the tournament, more than ever before (in 2002 only Sir Nick Faldo and Lee Westwood competed.) High Winds, High Drama Jordan Spieth took 9 on the 15th, the conditions the toughest the course had played for a decade. At the end of the second day’s play, four were tied for the lead: Charley Hoffman, Garcia, Pieters and Fowler on 4 under par. Not so many crickets croaking this year. Garcia missed 3 birdie putts in round 3 and was paired with Justin Rose in the final round – the first European final round pairing in Masters history. The course was set up for a very low score on the final days play and it developed into a duel between the two players. Garcia made 2 birdies in the first 5 holes to move 3 shots clear at 8 under par. However, 2 Rose birdies closed the gap to a shot after 7 holes. Rose’s birdie putt at the 8th dropped to level it up, although Garcia missed from a few feet for a birdie himself.

Spieth in the Pond Again on the 12th Jordan Spieth never looked totally comfortable with the 12th in this year’s tournament (over hit, under hit) and put in the water again in the final round. Matt Kuchar holed in one on the 16th, signed the ball and passed it to a child in the crowd. 2 Garcia bogeys meant Rose had a 2 shot lead going into the 12th. Garcia’s shots started going wayward and into trees, Rose should have gone 3 up at the 13th but didn’t, the putt rolled by. Garcia birdied the 14th to move to 7 under a shot back from Rose. A high iron and putt for an eagle moved Garcia to 9 under then Rose birdied for 9 under. All square then at the 16th, both players put their 8 irons on the green a few feet away from the hole like at a pitch and putt. Rose holed right to left for a birdie while Garcia left his easier putt short and again Rose had the shot advantage. Rose bogeyed the 17th while Garcia parred and it was all square again. Garcia had a putt to win on the final green but it rolled past on the right and the contest went into a play-off. Garcia holed from 18 feet at the first play-off hole to win his first Major on the Late Seve Ballesteros 60th birthday. Rocco Forte Open (May 18-21) Cadiz’s Alvaro Quiros returned to winning ways with victory in the Rocco Forte Open at Verdura in Sicily. Going into the final round 5 shots clear, Quiros eventually won at the second play-off hole after he and South Africa’s Zander Lombard had finished on 14 under par. Quiros had hardly contended the past 2 or 3 seasons and started the event with a ranking of 703. This is his 7th European Tour victory, his last coming in Dubai in 2011. BMW Championship, Wentworth (25-28 May) Once upon a time when the likes of David Howell and Johan Edfors were winning the BMW Championship held at Wentworth, the British television viewer could watch all 4 days play of the tournament live. Now you get an hour of highlights on Saturday and Sunday evening. At the start of the final day’s play, 6 players were tied in second place on 5 under par. Australian Andrew Dodt led but fell away, Francesco Molinari was leading in the early rounds, then fell out of the top 10 but managed to claw back in the closing holes for a runner-up spot and 9 under par finish. Sweden’s Alex Noren won the tournament with an 11 under par total equalling the course record with a 62.

KEY FEATURE The Adventures of a Girl Wearing Pearls About the Author Jan Constable came late to writing but found her forte recounting her amazing and sometimes hair-raising experiences to friends and colleagues, which she decided to commit to paper. Born and brought up near London, Jan was educated at The Lady Eleanor Holles School in West London and in her spare time enjoyed playing tennis and sailing. Her early working life included stints in both London and Paris where she worked at the British Embassy. In 1970 at the age of 27, she found herself catapulted into Dubai as a result of her husband’s job. Dubai then was an unknown desert kingdom lapped by the Persian Gulf. Always assuming that her destiny lay somewhere in rural England, she was not exactly equipped for this extraordinary adventure. How dull her life would have been and her tales of “The Adventures of a Girl Wearing Pearls” would never have seen the light of day! Jan never returned to live in the UK permanently and now lives in Spain. Taster of “The Adventures of a Girl Wearing Pearls” Bombshell! I will never forget May 8th 1970 as it was the day my life, as I knew it, was to irrevocably change forever. Mike, my husband, had been posted to Dubai in the Trucial Oman States at a time when nobody had even heard of Dubai and the only information that could be gleaned from the Board of Trade was that it imported massive quantities of gold, had no official exports and was hideously hot during the summer. In those days, there was no option and wives were expected to accompany their husbands wherever they were posted, donning a stiff upper lip at all times or, more to the point, being seen and not heard. I think it was called towing the line! It was with total fear and trepidation that we advanced towards the dreaded day, with so many plans and so much to do, not least of which was stocking up on essentials, as back then Dubai was not the shopping Mecca that it is today. I was briefed as to what was available and what I should definitely consider taking with me, and one considerable item was cosmetics. To that end I can vividly remember visiting Elizabeth Arden in Bond Street and attempting to order enough cosmetics to last a year; it sounds quite preposterous now. Oh, and J-cloths — why I thought we needed about 500 I will never know; and then there was the question of hosting company soirées which would require, as far as I could make out, buying up the whole of Mappin & Webb. What a nightmare!

By Jan Constable

For clothes, it was suggested that one should take a sufficient amount to cover every eventuality, but what was every eventuality, I wondered. My first priority was to be well-turned-out at all times, disregarding the sweltering temperatures; consequently, I embarked on a dizzy round of shopping and fittings for cocktail dresses, evening dresses and tea dresses, as well as all the other essentials, including tennis, golf and swimming gear. At this stage, I really had no idea at all as to whether my acquisitions would be appropriate or whether I would need to be covered from head to toe in a black abaya and burka, or indeed if I would ever see the light of day, this being an Arab country where women did not have too many rights. The dreaded day was fast approaching, the packers had been, the house was let, the car was sold, our lovely dog Lucy was going to stay with my parents and numerous farewell parties had been attended. It was like sleepwalking into an abyss. Our farewells had been made. ‘When will we see you again?’ chums chorused. ‘Not sure,’ was the reply, ‘maybe sooner rather than later’. May 8th had arrived and I was dressed to kill in one of my beautiful new outfits, in retrospect more appropriate for Ladies’ Day at Ascot than for heading to the desert. We were driven to Heathrow by my parents and joined there by Mike’s parents and chums, and this was when realization dawned — there was no going back. I managed to get through immigration but then it was a total collapse of ‘stout party’, the stout party being me. On reflection, I think I cried all the way to Dubai. Oh what misery, even my beautiful new clothes didn’t lift the spirits or the wonderment of being on my first international flight, or the concern of the cabin crew. My poor Mike was wondering just what could be done to console me; I think I kept saying ‘I want to go home’ but we were helterskeltering into the unknown, possibly both as terrified as each other. “The Girl Wearing Pearls” is available for worldwide delivery in paperback and eBook form and also available to download using iphones and other Apple Apps via Lulu.com, Amazon.co.uk and Amazon.com or locally here in Spain directly from Jan on 0034 952 491 359/ 0034 689 704 060 for 13 Euros. KEY FEATURE Natural Family Photography in Mijas Costa Jess specialises in Wedding, Family, Pregnancy, Boudoir, and creative business branding photography and has a natural flair for capturing authentic moments. Below Jess tells us about her family photography business and how you too can make the most out of the stunning locations that surround us. “For me family photography is about capturing the real essence of a family and their unique family bond; playing, laughing, smiling, sometimes even crying, around those they love in familiar surroundings. It always works well when photographing children to not confine them to a small space, and allow them to play freely & naturally. That is why living by the Andalucían Coast is the perfect place to have your family photo-shoot. We have the perfect weather, and Children will happily play for hours at the beach and will be entertained by the simplest of things; looking for shells, sealife in the rock-pools, building sandcastles, paddling etc... My style of photography is very relaxed and natural, and

By Wedding & Portrait Photographer Jess Petrie.

I encourage families to do their own thing whilst I document their time together using my artistic vision. The best photos are not staged and cannot be re-created, they have to be captured in that exact moment, and that is what I am really good at. The best time for a photo-shoot outdoor is either at dawn or evening, during the day the sunlight is too harsh and it can be uncomfortably hot too. Really it’s just a couple of hours out as a family, having fun, and making a new friend who will take beautiful photographs of you all. Before the photo-shoot I always advise on colour schemes for what to wear, and help with any ideas you may have. I love hanging out with families, it’s always a spontaneous and fun adventure and I promise to provide you with beautiful photographs of you and your family that will keep you remembering those precious moments, even when time passes by.” Jess is offering her photography services at a reduced price just for the Summer.

KEY PETS Keeping your Dog Healthy in Summer With summer here already in this issue I will give you my top tips on keeping your dog healthy in the heat. With over 26 years of working with dogs as a professional groomer and dietician, these tips are based on my experience of having worked with dogs as my life’s passion. I’m one of the lucky few who can say I love my job! Prevention is key so here are my tips on things you can do to help keep your dogs in great condition, helping to prevent common problems: Ears - Simply clean ears weekly (do not use cotton ear buds) using my best selling product Colloidal Liquid Silver (check out my Facebook page called Natures Secrets RUS pets). Spray inside of ears to help keep fungus, bacteria and mite infections at bay. Pads and Paws - Avoid walking your dogs between 12pm and 4pm due to the hot floors that could burn your dog’s delicate pads within seconds. Oil pads with any natural oil once a week (my 3in1 miracle oil is 100% natural and organic). Spray inside of pads daily with colloidal liquid silver to help keep pads healthy and help reduce itching and inflammation. Remember good pad care is one of the most important parts of a dog’s health. Sore pads can not only cause pain and distress and constant licking and chewing but long term could cause damage to pads resulting in pain in other joints. Add Colloidal liquid silver (just a few mls) to your dog’s water bowl. Liquid silver not only sterilises the water (NASA use it) but kills parasites like Guardia - a huge problem here in Spain that

26

KEY TO MIJAS COSTA

By Joanna Fluer Oxley

causes upset tummy which can be on and off and cause long term damage to the colon Mouth, Gums and Teeth - Spray corners of mouth and teeth and gums twice weekly with liquid silver and use organic coconut oil to brush teeth weekly to help keep clean and free from bacteria. Skin and Coat - spray every few days with liquid silver to keep fungus, bacteria, fleas, ticks and mozzies at bay. Use after swimming. Keep coat free from undercoat and use coconut oil on areas with little fur to hydrate. If your dog starts limping or holding paws up, check inside the paws as bee stings are a common problem at this time of year. Unlike wasp stings, bees leave the stinger in, so it’s important this is removed to prevent more venom going into the body. Spray area with liquid silver and watch your dog for signs of inflammation or breathing problems. Seek veterinarian help if worried. Lastly and it seems silly to even write this, BUT I still read daily sad stories of dogs dying in cars - never leave your dog in your car, even with windows open. Temperatures can reach dangerous levels in minutes and remember walking your dog around an open market in the heat of June, July and August is not recommended. Enjoy your summer and if you would like my advice concerning dog health care, please go to my Facebook page - Compassionate Grooming by Joanna Fleur Oxley- and message me directly. For grooming appointments please be aware I am fully booked up to 10 days in advance during the summer.

KEY COMPUTERS Do You Really Need to Pay for Antivirus Software?

By Computer City

Anybody who accesses the internet can benefit from knowing about various antivirus programmes that enable you to stay safe while online. Accessing websites leaves the way open for unscrupulous people to infect your computer. By installing suitable software, you can prevent viruses from invading your computer.

for suspicious behaviour, such as a programme attempting to access files it shouldn’t. The choice is yours! Just make sure you install an antivirus on your computer and update it regularly.

It’s a free world out there! But should you trust your digital security to a free programme? There are plenty of free options, including free basic programmes from the same developers that also offer for-pay packages. On the free side are some solid and reputable antivirus programmes for Windows machines, Avast free antivirus, AVG Antivirus and Bitdefender antivirus free are just some of the free antiviruses out there. Microsoft itself even offers Microsoft Security Essentials for Windows Vista and Windows 7. On Windows 8.1 and Windows 10, it’s rebranded as Windows Defender and built into the system. Either version will scan your system for bad actors and keep a constant vigil on downloaded files. There are many more paid anti-virus programmes from well-known names like McAfee, Norton/Symantec, Kaspersky and ESET smart security. Paid programmes generally offer many additional features, which can be helpful depending on what kind of computer owner you are. The main differences between free and paid anti-virus software are the additional features you get when you pay for a one-year license. Parental controls, more elaborate firewalls to prevent intrusions, and performance and conflict scans for Windows PCs. The paid programmes also look

KEY LAW EU e-Privacy Regulation

By Victoria Anzola, www.seqqe.com

May 2018 Deadline may be Unrealistic Many companies have not understood the importance of compliance. Not only are the fines to be worried about, it is also the criminal charges administrators are facing that should raise awareness. Spanish Criminal Code Reform-2015 provides companies with an exemption from criminal liability if they have effectively implemented a compliance programme that meets the requirements of the new Code. The new reform clearly follows what has been incorporated in the legislation of many other jurisdictions around the world, and it is also contained in international treaties to which Spain has adhered. The 2015 Reform establishes that the effective adoption and implementation of a compliance programme can serve as an exonerating or attenuating factor when a company is subject to criminal liability for crimes committed by its directors or employees. EU e-Privacy Regulation The EU Council’s Maltese Presidency’s progress report on the EU Commission’s proposal for an e-Privacy Regulation

32

KEY TO MIJAS COSTA

reveals that while Member States are still preparing their national positions, some delegations are already asking for greater flexibility. Some Member States’ delegations think that the proposal should follow the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) more closely, and for example, make it possible to base certain processing on legitimate interest grounds. They also think that the level of detail required for a Regulation may be too difficult to achieve by May 2018. According to the proposal, telecoms companies could face fines of up to 4% of global turnover or €20 million, which equates to the levels in the GDPR. The European Data Protection Supervisor, Giovanni Buttarelli, said that in case of a breach involving several aspects, some of which would fall under the GDPR and others under e-Privacy, a company could be fined under both regimes. The EU Commission aims to have the e-Privacy Regulation adopted by May 2018 when the GDPR enters into force. A vote at the European Parliament’s Civil Liberties, Justice and Home Affairs (LIBE) Committee is tentatively scheduled for October 2017, and Ms Marju Lauristin, an Estonian MEP (Group of the Progressive Alliance of Socialists and Democrats) has been appointed as the Rapporteur for the European Parliament.

KEY FEATURE Summer Precautions

By Security of Spain

A warm welcome to summer from Security of Spain! Unfortunately when summer arrives, so do the dishonest opportunists who continue to blight us, so here are a few security tips: Don’t advertise! As temping as it is to broadcast your holiday to Hawaii on social media, it´s a sure way to tell the world (and anyone who´s planning a break-in) you´re away from home. If you own a holiday rental, consider installing a Tecon TC8 High Security Cylinder to your property. Its patented key is designed to control key duplication by having to present the ownership card bought with the cylinder for copies. At the same time, it offers protection against bumping, picking and drilling so adds an extra high level of security. Key Keepers are a cheap secure option if your holidaymakers are arriving at all hours. Fastened to any wall, its suit-

able to hold keys or remotes allowing only those with the code access to your property. For those wishing to let a little air into their property, install Window Stops which prevent windows from being opened more than six inches – perfect for ventilation, but not for a criminal who wants to slip inside! Equally Patio Door Locks are a prudent investment as the terrace is a popular point of entry for break-ins. A Small Hotel or Laptop Safe can be installed and will keep your passports, care keys and credit cards safe, whilst you’re relaxing on the beach. Lost Keys...? If you are unfortunate enough to be a victim of a stolen handbag or keys, keep our number stored in your phone, or our business card in your back pocket when you go out partying! We´re always available to help you in emergency situations 24/7. Your Security is Our Concern!

Try one of the specially selected Teppanyaki menus which are great value for money. Ginza is open from 12.00 to 24.00. Places around the Teppanyaki spectacle are limited, so it is advisable to book. Lemongrass Now established in the Doña Lola complex, Calahonda. Fresh produce and authentic cuisine with Thai chef. Open every evening* from 6 – 11.30pm. Booking recommended. Takeaway service available. We have eaten at Lemongrass many times and in my opinion, Lemongrass is the best Thai restaurant on the coast with a native Thai chef in its kitchen. Unusually the menu included Som Tam (Shredded Green Papaya Salad) for starters - exactly as I remember it – perfect taste with the small peanuts as well and it packed a punch with the chilli! Other starters include a selection of favourite Thai soups, Special Thai Chicken Salad, Glass Noodle Salad etc as well as Chicken Satay, Thai Spring Rolls, Thai Fish Cakes or better still, the Mixed Starter for 2. Main courses are made from Chicken, Beef or Lamb, Duck, Prawns or Fish. Personal recommendations include Chicken Green Curry, Crispy Roasted Duck with Thai Sweet Chilli Sauce & Basil Leaves, Stir-fried Prawns with Spring Onion & Ginger and Sweet & Sour Prawns (Thai style has a completely different flavour). There is a good selection of different rice and I particular enjoy the Fried Rice with Eggs. Lemongrass also serves a very good Pad Thai Noodle dish. Thai food can be VERY spicy, so best to ask for a little bit of spice the first time to see how you go! The Mango with Sticky Rice for Dessert is also delicious. The venue has a closed, glass curtain, outdoor terrace and limited seating indoors (which is air conditioned) so booking is recommended as Lemongrass is already very popular. Please check that delivery is available and also if the restaurant is closed on any nights during the cooler months.

Le Papillon Restaurant and Beach Club – If you enjoy stunning sunsets and a chilled vibe we recommend heading to Le Papillon!! Freshly made Cocktails or indulge with a special G&T from the ample gin menu before heading onto the spectacular beach-front terrace. Adorned with comfort-

able, chic furniture, they provide the perfect setting for light lunches, lunch meetings and of course, dinner. At lunch time choose from a light bites menu or the main menu selection of dishes such as Baked Sea Bass, Rack of Lamb, Paella and the delicious Le Papillon Chicken Curry. We are really pleased to welcome Tecnophonia to the magazine as we have used their services for a considerable time. Most of us now use new, expensive telephony so it’s great to know that should something go wrong, Sergio can repair ALL the latest devices including of course Apple and Samsung phones and tablets etc. Sergio is very knowledgeable and experienced and all his work is guaranteed. Technophonia also buys and sells new and second hand phones and tablets as well as offering top-ups, pre-paid SIM cards and contracts. It is well worth the trip to his shop as his advice is always sound and honest and not expensive as well as the work being guaranteed and is a much better option than sending your phone back to the service provider. Technophonia offers a service way above that which unfortunately we have had to come to accept here. You will also find a large selection of cases, accessories, screen protectors etc in the shop.
