MOMMY & ME SWIM LESSONS This class is designed for you and your child to develop a lifelong love of swimming. Children that are exposed to water at a young age are more likely to be proficient swimmers sooner in life. Your child can attend with mom, dad, or an adult guardian in a calm and quiet atmosphere. Laura Huggins, your instructor, will show you tips and techniques for your child to develop confidence and comfort in the water. Swim diapers are required. AGES 6 MONTHS - 4 YEARS Dates: Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays, May 13 - 24 Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays, July 29 - August 9 Time: 11:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. Location: Aquatic Center Pool Instructor: Laura Huggins Early-Bird: $49 (expires two weeks prior to start) Course Fee: $60

JUNIOR HIGHLANDER SWIM LESSONS Beginning lessons focus on floating, safety in and around the pool, and beginning swimming techniques. Parent or guardian must be present for children but will not be in the water. Our swim lessons will be taught in the Gordon State College Aquatic Center by Laura Huggins. Depending on your child’s age will depend on the time frame for their lessons. K - 5 TUTORING Is your child struggling with basic math, writing, or reading skills? We offer a holistic tutoring approach to help your child build their confidence and improve their grades. The tutoring sessions are molded to suit each child’s individual need. We want to create the stepping stones to help your child succeed in and out of school. BASKETBALL CAMP This camp is designed to develop individual skill levels in the area of dribbling, passing, shooting, physical conditioning, and defense. The camp also addresses character education, which includes but is not limited to social and emotional learning, moral reasoning, cognitive development, life skills, health education, violence & anti-bullying prevention, critical thinking, ethical reasoning, and conflict resolution. Camp fees include lunch, swimming and a tee shirt! SUMMER SOCCER CAMP Our popular soccer camp, led by Scott Henderson, is designed to provide a positive learning environment for both boys and girls. The camp is game-oriented and dedicated to developing players to meet their full potential while providing individual attention and development. Grouped by skill level, from beginner to advanced, all players benefit with this four-day camp offered two different weeks with both weeks for ages six and up. TENNIS CAMP This camp is designed to provide clear and concise instruction for the beginner and intermediate tennis player with an emphasis on proper technique. The course will cover the fundamentals of the volley, the forehand, the backhand, the overhead and the serve as well as an introduction to the fundamentals of movement and score-keeping. Good sportsmanship and proper tennis etiquette will also be emphasized. It is recommended that all campers come with their own racquets but if that is not possible we do have loaners for those who have not yet purchased a frame. These classes are taught primarily outside, so provisions should be made to protect the campers from the extremes of weather, ie. sunscreen, caps, and sunglasses, if necessary. SUMMER SOFTBALL CAMP The camp is designed to cover all aspects of the game of fast pitch softball including hitting, pitching, fielding, base running, catching, infield, outfield, as well as actual game training. In addition to learning individual position play from some of the best coaches and players in the country the highlander skills camp will also include live scrimmage games. This will not be your typical camp as our goal is to ensure that all participating campers enhance and improve their game both physically and mentally to help achieve our camp moto of “the four days that made a difference in my game.” AGES 6 - 10, GIRLS Dates: Monday - Thursday, June 10 - 13 Time: 9:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. Camp Fee: $75

NIKE BASEBALL CAMP U.S. Sports Camps is excited to host the first Nike Baseball Camp at Gordon State College. This camp will be instructed by the Gordon State coaching staff and guarantees campers will take their game to the next level. Directing the Nike Baseball Camp at Gordon State College is Head Baseball Coach Travis McClanahan. McClanahan is in his sixteenth year as Head Coach for the Highlanders Baseball Program. SCIENCE EXPLORER CAMP Each week will provide a structured environment with exciting interactive experiences based on specific age groups. Campers will have hands-on experiments and projects to learn about the natural world and better understand how it works. We will incorporate a schedule that will keep campers’ minds and bodies active with indoor and outdoor fun. SUMMER STEAM CAMP Our new Summer-STEAM camp offers a fun, adrenaline-filled learning experience in science, technology, engineering, and math, plus art and adventure. We are looking for students who enjoy discovering new things, solving problems, being creative, and learning how things work through hands-on experiments. Our camp leader will actively educate these middle school campers to get them ready for the next school year. PERFORMING ARTS CAMP Throughout the years, our annual art camp has provided exciting hands-on activities that allow each camper to meet creative challenges and exercise their imagination with various art projects. This year is no exception as we once again partner with Ozier Dance Studio for an exciting week of musical theatre and visual art elements. This year, our young artists will be performing a rendition of Disney’s The Lion King! PRIVATE VIOLIN LESSONS Would you like to improve your posture and your memory skills? Would you like to play one of the most beautiful sounding musical instruments in the world? You should attend private violin lessons. Mary Stephenson, our violin instructor, provides 30-minute weekly lessons for adults and children. You can learn violin using the traditional method or the Suzuki method. SWIM LESSONS Gordon’s very own American Red Cross Certified Swim Instructor, Laura Huggins, is offering her services to teach others how to swim. Private lessons for children and adults are available on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays between 10:00 and 11:00 a.m. You choose the number of sessions, at $40 per hour session, and contact us for the specific dates that fit with your schedule. FITNESS SWIMMING - Adults

It is important for adults to take part in activities that help strengthen their muscles, build endurance, and improve their cardiovascular fitness. This course is designed to do all of these things and more. During this course you will have access to the Gordon State College pool and our qualified instructor who will be present to assist you. You may either seek assistance or set your own pace. Prerequisite: Participants must know how to swim. MONDAY NIGHT POTTERY

CLAY SCULPTURE

In this class you will study basic but important techniques of throwing pottery forms on the wheel, centering the ball, pulling cylinders, and handbuilding. More advanced students will work on more complex projects. Topics include pulling and attaching handles, sizing lids, applying glaze, firing, and more. This course includes clay, glazes, use of the wheel, and firing in the kiln.

This class is for any artist who has the ambition to create portrait or figurative work from clay. You can work from life or reference material. In this course, taught by Bob Detamore, you will learn the basics of simple terracotta sculpture, hollowing and firing, and putting on a patina color. This course includes clay, armatures, and kiln firing.

CPR CERTIFICATION

The American Heart Association’s BLS (Basic Life Support) course is designed to teach the skills of CPR for victims of all ages, use of an automated external defibrillator and relief of foreign-body airway obstruction. This is open to the general public, as well as, the Gordon State College nursing students. ASTRONOMY SYMPOSIUM Planets, asteroids, and comets! Oh my! This symposium allows amateur and professional astronomers to assemble and exchange information about astronomy and astronomical occurrences. Professional astronomers will be presenting information about the latest astronomical discoveries. Attendees are encouraged to ask questions and hear from the professional presenters. Both the Association of Lunar and Planetary Observers (ALPO) and the Southeast Region of the Astronomical League (SERAL) encourage attendance by anyone interested in what is happening in the sky above us. CERTIFICATE IN FOOD, NUTRITION, AND HEALTH Food and nutrition have a profound impact on our health and well-being, yet many of us are not aware of what foods to eat, which diets are healthy, and where our food originates. Throughout this class, you’ll become more conscious of what we eat, why we eat it, how it is prepared, and what consequences our food choices have on our health as well as the health of our planet. You’ll also learn how we can change our eating habits for more healthful outcomes, including swapping processed sugar for other sweeteners, adding probiotics to the diet, and harnessing the healing effect of herbs. Refunds: In order to receive a refund for a course, students must withdraw prior to the first scheduled

class meeting. Please call the Community Education office at 678-359-5123 to drop a course. There will be no refunds once a course has begun.

Holidays: The campus will be closed on May 27 (Memorial Day) and July 4 (Independence Day) Emergency Closing: In the event the college is closed due to inclement weather we will make every effort to provide make-up sessions at the discretion of the college. Please make sure the Community Education office has your up-to-date contact information.

Student Accommodations: Students with special needs must notify the Community Education office

a minimum of two business days before the course/camp start date so appropriate accommodations can be arranged.

Parking Permits: Parking permits will be disbursed by the Community Education office, once registration is complete, to the Community Education students that should need them.

Junior Highlander Registrations: Fees include a $50 non-refundable fee (except for swim lessons). All forms in the Junior Highlander Handbook will need to be completed by the parent/guardian, and returned to the Community Education office before the start.

Refunds for Junior Highlander There will be no

refunds once the selected camp has started. If you should need to withdraw your child from the program, please notify the Community Education office at least one week prior to the start of the camp. You will be given a refund for the camp registration minus the required non-refundable deposit if you withdraw your child prior to the start of the camp. If a camp is canceled by the Community Education office due to low enrollment or for other reasons, you will receive a full refund, including the non-refundable deposit.
