Summer Fun for Junior Highlanders Welcome Parents and Children to Gordon State College’s Junior Highlanders Camps! Our focus is to blend academic principles with an active, safe and fun environment. We encourage every camper to have fun and to share their experiences with friends and family. In order for each student to fully enjoy this learning experience, the enclosed information is extremely important for parents. Please read everything carefully. Registration and Refund Information Registration for the Junior Highlander Camps will open in March. Registration is on a “first-paid first-enrolled” basis. Children will not be guaranteed a place in the camps until the full registration fee is paid. Registration for the camps will close the Friday prior to the start date of the camp at 5:00pm. Enrollment space is limited to a maximum amount of students in each camp. This allows for an appropriate child-to-instructor ratio and a quality experience. The earlier you register your child, the greater the likelihood there will be space and your child’s space will be reserved. Five ways to register your child for camps: •Web Registrations - Go to www.gordonstate.edu/commed and click on the “Registration” tab located on the left of the web-page. •Registering In Person - Register in person in our office located on Spencer Street in Barnesville, GA. Physical address: 301 Spencer Street, Barnesville, GA, 30204. •Phone Registration - To register for courses by phone, please contact the Community Education office during operating hours at 678-359-5123. •Mailing Registrations - Mail your completed Community Education registration form, with payment information to: Gordon State College, Community Education , 419 College Drive, Barnesville, GA 30204. •Faxing or Emailing Registrations - Registration forms may be faxed to our office at: 770-358-5009 or emailed to: communityeducation@gordonstate.edu Refund Policy for Camps: To receive a refund for a course/camp, students must withdraw at least one week prior to the start of the course/ camp; you will be given a refund for the course/camp registration, minus the required non-refundable deposit. If a course/camp is canceled by the Community Education office due to low enrollment or other reasons, you will receive a full refund, including the non-refundable deposit. There will be no refunds, once a course/camp has begun.

Rules, Regulations, and Code of Conduct 1. No electronic devices are allowed. 2. Campers should have all personal belongings, (towel, change of clothing, etc.) marked with their name. Gordon State College (hereinafter referred to as GSC) and the department of Community Education (hereinafter referred to as CE) are not held responsible for lost or stolen items. 3. Parents of children whose behavior disrupts the camp will be given one warning. If disruptive behavior persists, the child will be dismissed from the camp without a refund. Violent behavior will not be tolerated and the child will be dismissed from the camp immediately without a refund. 4. Campers must stay with their group at ALL times. 5. Be respectful of ALL adults, GSC property, and other campers at ALL times. 6. If you need to use the restroom, please notify a counselor or camp instructor before walking away. 7. NO Running inside buildings or other areas where you are instructed not to run. 8. Do not drop off or pick up your child without notifying the child’s teacher and the CE office. If you need to sign your child out of camp early, please contact the CE department before picking up your child. We will contact the instructors and counselor with the information. 9. All individuals picking up their child must be on the approved pick-up list and must present an appropriate form of photo ID. 10. Children with any of the following symptoms should not attend the camp. If you child develops any of these symptoms, the staff will contact a parent or authorized adult to immediately pick up the child. •A temperature above 100°F. Temperatures must be a normal (98.6° F) for 24 hours before returning.

•Vomiting or Diarrhea •Exposure to communicable diseases such as severe sore throat, pink eye, ringworm, etc.

11. If your child has to take any medications during camp hours, they need to be provided in the original labeled bottle with the child’s name, dosage, and prescription information. These medications will need to be delivered to the CE staff with a completed medication release form (included in this handbook). 12. If your child needs Epi-Pens, inhalers, or other specified emergency medicines, they may keep the medicine with them through out the day. Written instructions and a plan for the use of the treatment must be on file before your child may participate in any camp. 13. Please notify our department if your child has any food allergies, so we may inform the dining hall and may be able to prevent exposure when we have large groups eating lunch together. 14. If a parent or guardian would like to eat lunch with their child, they must pay for their own meal. If a parent would like to swim with their child during swim time, the parent or guardian will need to sign a waiver of liability and notify CE at least 24 hours in advance 15. No weapons will be allowed on campus at anytime. 16. Gordon State College is a tobacco and smoke free campus. No tobacco products, e-cigarette, or smoking vapors are allowed on campus at anytime. 17. Inappropriate clothing will not be allowed for any camp. Parents will be asked to take campers home and change clothing before returning to camp. Sign-In and Sign-Out Information The entire staff of Community Education’s first priority is to make sure that all campers are safe at all times. Please note that the sign-in and sign-out process has changed. The parking locations and sign-in/sign-out locations will be listed with each camp’s detailed information in this handbook. Please contact the Community Education department at 678-359-5123 if you need assistance locating these areas while on campus. Sign-In begins 15 minutes before the camp begins. Staff members will not arrive before this time. If you are arriving late for the camp, please call 678-359-5123 and notify the department of Community Education. When you bring your child to camp, you will need to sign them in and verify that all required forms have been returned to the department of Community Education. Sign-Out will start at the end of camp, in the same location as the sign-in. You will need to present a valid photo ID proving that you are designated to pick up the camper and sign the child out on our roster. Children will not be allowed to leave with an adult that is not listed as an approved designated adult that has been approved by the parent or guardian. All campers should be picked up no later than 15 minutes after the camp ends. A $10 late fee will be assessed for violations of this policy.

Camp Details and “What to Bring & How to Dress” Please note our camps’ detailed information is subject to change. Basketball Camp: We will need your child’s shirt size before the start of the camp! Basketball Campers should be signed-in at the Alumni Memorial Hall between 8:45 - 9:00am. Please accompany your child to the building where a Community Education staff member will be waiting. All children must be signed-in and out by a designated parent or guardian on the approved list. Basketball Campers need to bring a water bottle, sneakers for indoors, extra clothes, swimsuit, towel, something to store their wet swimsuits, and sunscreen. Campers should wear gym clothes; NO BLUE JEANS. Please remember to label your child’s belongings. We are not held responsible for lost or stolen items. Sign-out will begin at 4:00 at the Alumni Memorial Hall Gym. Swim Lessons: All children should arrive to their lessons in the Aquatic Center Pool no earlier than 15 minutes before the lessons. A parent and or guardian must be present for the child, but will not be in the water. For the swim lessons, children will need a water bottle, flip flops/sandals, and a towel. Shower and changing facilities are available if needed. Children should use the restroom before their lessons begin. Please remember to label your child’s belongings. We are not held responsible for lost or stolen items. Summer Soccer Camp: We will need your child’s shirt size and soccer ball size before the start of the camp! Campers should be signed-in at the Athletic Complex between 7:45 - 8:00am. Soccer Camp participants will need to bring a water bottle, soccer cleats for outdoors, sneakers for indoors, shin-guards, bug spray, extra clothes, swimsuit, towel, and something to store their wet swimsuits, and sunscreen. Lunch will be provided and sign-out will begin at 4:00 at the Athletic Complex.We are not held responsible for lost or stolen items. Tennis Camp: We will need your child’s shirt size before the start of the camp! ALL Campers: It is recommended that all campers come with their own racquets but if that is not possible we do have loaners for those who have not yet purchased a frame. Camp participants will need to bring a water bottle, bug spray, cap, sunglasses, and sunscreen. We are not held responsible for lost or stolen items. Barnesville Campers: Sign-in will be between 7:45 - 8:00 am at the Athletic Complex. McDonough Campers: Tennis Camp for McDonough Students will be held at the Richard Craig Park Tennis Courts. Sign-in will be between 7:45 - 8:00 am at the Richard Craig Park Tennis Courts.

Camp Details and “What to Bring & How to Dress” Continued Camp Science Explorer: Campers will need to be signed in by a parent and/or guardian at the Academic Building between 7:45 - 8:00am. Free swim is available for the campers from 1:00 - 2:00pm at the Aquatic Center Pool. Please feel free to join your camper in the pool during this time, once a liability waiver form has been signed for each person getting in the pool. If you would like to pick your child up before the free swimming, you may sign them out at the classroom. Please notify the Community Education office if you plan to sign your child out before free swim time. Science Explorer campers will need to bring a sack lunch each day. Campers will also need to bring a swimsuit, towel, bottled water, sunscreen, bug spray, comfortable shoes, and something to store their wet swimsuit in. Please remember to label your child’s belongings. We are not held responsible for lost or stolen items. Campers will be active during the camp, and may get their clothes messy while performing experiments; clothes should be comfortable and easy to move in. More information on the field trip will be available closer to time. Highlander Softball Skills Camp: We will need your child’s shirt size before the start of the camp! Sign-in for the softball day campers will be located at the Athletic Complex, between 7:45 - 8:00am. Please accompany your child to the sign-in table, where a Community Education staff member will be waiting. Sign-out for day campers will be held at the Athletic Complex and will begin at 6:00pm each day. We are not held responsible for lost or stolen items. ALL Softball Campers: will need to bring bat, gloves, catcher’s gear, shorts, t-shirts, turfs and cleats, bug spray, sunscreen, swimsuit, towel, water bottle, tennis shoes, and something to store their wet swimsuit in. NO camper will need to bring coolers. Lunch will be included in the Highlander Dining Hall. OVERNIGHT Softball Campers (Ages 10 and up only): Twin bed sheets and blanket (or sleeping bag), pillow, wash clothes and towels, shower curtain, toilet paper, soap, deodorant, shampoo, tooth brush, toothpaste, flip flops (for showering). Overnight Softball campers will begin sign-in at 6:00pm at the Commons C Resident Hall on Sunday. Make sure to have dinner prior to arrival. Overnight campers will be served breakfast, lunch and dinner in the Highlander Dining Hall Monday - Wednesday. Summer STEAM Camp: We will need your child’s shirt size before the start of the camp! Students should arrive for sign-in between 7:45 - 8:00am at either the McDonough Center or Barnesville Campus. Students will be active during this camp and may get their clothes dirty performing experiments. Clothing should also be comfortable and easy to move in. Campers will need to bring a sack lunch each day. McDonough students will need to bring their swim gear on the Thursday of camp. Participants will need to bring a water bottle, swimsuit, towel, sunscreen, bug spray, and something to store their wet swimsuit in. We are not held responsible for lost or stolen items. Performing Art and Dance Camp: We will need your child’s shirt size before the start of the camp! Art campers will need to arrive at the Fine Arts Building between 7:45 - 8:00am to be sign-in. You will need to accompany your child to the building where a Community Education staff member will be waiting. Sign-Out for the Performing Arts and Dance Camp will begin at 4:00pm at the Fine Arts Building. Campers will be active during camp, and may get their clothes messy; clothes should be comfortable and easy to move in. Materials used in art camp SHOULD wash out, but to be safe, have children wear old clothes or bring an old men’s shirt to wear as a smock. We are planning a production of your child’s performance at the end of the camp week. Information on time and place will be given to your child during the week of camp. Please join us in celebrating our young artists!

It is the sole responsibility of each participant to participate only in those activities for which he/she has the prerequisite skills, qualifications, preparations, and training. I acknowledge that I am solely responsible for any hospital or other costs arising out of any bodily injury or property damage sustained through my participation in this voluntary recreational/physical activity or field trip. The undersigned hereby acknowledges that participation in recreational/athletic activities, field trips, and community and service learning activities involves an inherent risk of physical injury and assumes all such risks.
