Dear Elk members,

I would like to say thank you for feeling confident in selec ng me as Exalted Ruler. My First Lady, Jeanne e Granados, and I will represent this Lodge with gra tude and grace. I will also need all of your support.

We are a great big Elk Family ‐ Be Proud! ELKDOM IS YOU is my mo o this year. It means that every member here makes this Lodge great with hard work and par cipa on. Our Lodge will grow stronger for the future. Let's bring back the communica on between US all. Let's talk.

I can remember coming here with my father, Tom Kuykendall, a 60 year member. I always had fun. Listening to all the great stories about Santa Ana was wonderful. Everyone treated me great, it made me want to become a member. Now I am on my 25th year and I'm the ER. So please keep talking to the new members coming in. Our future counts on it.

April is upon us and we have many wonderful events this month. On the 5th is our Installa on of the 2016‐17 Officers. This is an open mee ng, so I encourage you to bring your friends and family. I want to thank my Officer Corp for making my year complete. I'm nothing without you guys. Come Support Us ‐ Please! The 6th of April is taco Night. This is always a great night. If you haven’t come down, it’s a must. The Inaugural Ball is on the 9th. The cost is $35 and you get your choice of Prime rib or Chicken Cordon Blue. The Officers walk is at 8:30 pm. The first dance is Okie night on April 15th. Bring your redneck and appe te. Your food choices are Chicken Fried Steak or Fried Chicken and beans. Lol.

Ritual contest is happening the weekend of the 22‐24. We've been prac cing. To my Corp, we'll do our best and we'll have fun. We will become stronger as friends. And yes, the 24th is the Elks Breakfast. Come celebrate our win. Too funny, huh?

Let's Make Elkdom Us!

Thank you so much, Exalted Ruler Patrick Kuykendall

I am shocked, honored and thrilled to have been nominated and elected to serve as your Leading Knight. Most of you know, from my years as Chairman of Sickness and Distress, as well as dealing with me as a volunteer for Pizza Sunday’s, Monday Night Football and as both a Caller and worker for Bingo, that I take my responsibili es very seriously. I do try my best to add some levity to whatever endeavor I accept, but rest assured, I will take the responsibili es and du es as your Leading Knight with all the seriousness and decorum the posi on deserves. And yes, that does mean I will wear long pants, dang it! I have several Chairs under my posi on and all should be filled by the me you read this ar cle. I appreciate those that have stepped up to help me this next year. If by chance you are lucky enough to serve in one of these posi ons, rest assured that we will work together to ensure that the requirements of each will get the a en on and support of not only myself, but my fellow officers, as needed. If you are not lucky enough to be a Chairman, but are interested in ge ng involved, either on one of my commi ees, or any Officer’s commi ee(s), please let this be known to that officer or myself, as we welcome new volunteers at every level. A list of these Chair’s are on the inside cover of the Elkhorn. Remember, volunteers are the lifeblood of our lodge. And with that, I will close for this month with two things: First, that we can ALWAYS use more help with Bingo, so come down and join the fun; it’s very rewarding. And second, thanks again for your confidence and support. I will make you proud you’ve elected me to the posi on of Leading Knight. Fraternally, Buck Kuhns Leading Knight

Ritual Contest Weekend

Hello Elkdom, It's that me of year, the changing of officers. I'm Allen Bisbee extremely excited to be the new Esteem Lecturing Knight. I'm honored to be in a posi on that represents Brotherly Love. April 2016 The Scholarship Commi ee extends thanks to all members, visitors and guests who were present for the Youth Awards Night on March 1. It was encouraging to have the best turnout in many years, and if you weren’t there you missed a special evening. Hoop Shoot and scholarship winners, their families, teachers, counselors and coaches were all hosted to a buffet dinner and then presented with their awards in the lodge room.

Pictured below are the three groups of scholarship winners with cap ons showing the amount of each award. Applica on for one of the Most Valuable Student winners, Joseph Kim, has progressed to ENF for na onal judging. That means this talented young man is now guaranteed $4,000 ($1,000 each for four years) and is among the 500 students na onwide who are vying for awards up to $50,000. We wish Joseph the best in this final round of judging. Results of na onal judging will be released in late April and will be reported in next month’s Elkhorn.

Boys – Girls : Le to right – LENZ AWARDS: Jim Tobin, ER, Christopher Olver ($1,000), Sam Warren ($1,500), Kathryn Mirth ($2,000), Kaitlin Wilmot ($2,500), Marie a Parkinson, Scholarship Chair, Sue McKee, Scholarship Commi ee

Elks Scholarships – SANTA ANA #794 AWARDS: Jim Tobin, ER, Dorothy O’Neal with great granddaughters Kendall and Madison accep ng for granddaughter, Caylie O’Neal ($2,000),Bob Hatch, accep ng for grandson Noah Texter ($1,500), Guest Speaker: Jim Tobin, Marie a Parkinson, Scholarship Chair ER, Jessica Phan, former MVS winner and recent Elk Service Trip par cipant, Marie a Parkinson, Scholarship Chair

Boys2‐Scholarship – MOST VALUABLE STUDENT AWARDS: Jim Tobin, ER, Michael Hanson ($1,500), Joseph Kim, ($2,000), Marie a Parkinson, Scholarship Chair, Dick Reger, Scholarship Commi ee (Absent – Minkyo Seo, ($1,750)

As shown in the chart on the following page, our Lodge was able to provide a total of $21,000 in scholarships this year. When you add in the district and state awards won by five of our Most Valuable Student applicants the subtotal is $28,800. I say “subtotal” because one of our MVS boys is involved in na onal judging and will add a minimum of $4,000 to his Elk scholarships. So, that puts our “subtotal” at $32,800 and hoping. We wish Joseph Kim much success in the na onal judging process. Girls Scholarship: Le to right – MOST VALUABLE STUDENT AWARDS: Jim Tobin, ER , A report of the outcome of na onal judging will appear in next month’s Elkhorn. Isn’t it wonderful to be able to help these talented Michelle Pham ($1,500), Chris ne Do ($1750), Natasha Takahashi ($2000), Marie a Parkinson, young people in our communi es? Scholarship Chair
