BIG GREEN TRAVEL TO YALE TO OPEN 2013 IVY LEAGUE CAMPAIGN ▶ SATURDAY’S GAME The Dartmouth women’s lacrosse team is back in action Saturday afternoon in the team’s Ivy League opener at Yale. The Big Green will head to New Haven to take on the Bulldogs at Reese Stadium in a game set for 1 p.m. ▶ LAST TIME OUT In a contest postponed from Wednesday to Thursday due to inclement weather in the Upper Valley, the Green knocked off their in-state rival New Hampshire, 11-10, on a last-second goal from freshman Jaclyn Leto. Leto netted her second of the season with 5.8 seconds left to complete the second-half comeback for Dartmouth in their home opener. ▶ WHAT A DAY! Assisting on Leto’s game-winner was junior Liz Calby for her second helper of the afternoon. In all, Calby finished the day with four goals and six points, good for a new single-game career high for scoring. Calby registered all four of her tallies in the first half. ▶ WHEN IT MATTERS MOST Trailing 10-8 in the final six minutes of regulation, senior Hana Bowers, the reigning Ivy League Offensive Player of the Week, took matters into her own hands, scoring twice in a 55-second span to tie it. The goals were Bowers’ first two of the afternoon and came on the heels of three tallies to open the season at Oregon last weekend. ▶ SCOUTING YALE The Bulldogs welcome the Green to New Haven fresh off their best offensive day in five seasons having scored 19 goals at regional rival Quinnipiac Wednesday afternoon. The 19-12 victory helped even Yale’s record at 1-1 after losing its opener at Holy

Cross, 16-13, the weekend before. Saturday’s game will mark the Elis’ home opener after two games on the road to open 2013. Devon Rhodes and Jen DeVito are tied for the team lead in scoring with 10 points, with Rhodes having a team-best nine goals to this point. In the circle, Erin McMullan has played all 120 minutes and boasts a 14.00 goals-against average and a .33 save percentage.

▶SCHEDULE ▶FEBRUARY (2-0-0) 23 @ Oregon 28 NEW HAMPSHIRE

▶ ALL-TIME AGAINST THE BULLDOGS This weekend will mark the 36th all-time meeting between the two teams. Dartmouth leads the series with Yale, 22-13-0, and has a four-game win streak against its Ivy League rival.

▶ LAST TIME AGAINST THE ELIS It was the Sarah Plumb ’12 show in the contest between these two teams last season in Hanover. The senior and First Team All-American scored six times, including the winner with 2:12 left in regulation to break an 8-8 tie to give the Big Green a one-goal victory. ▶ SOLID STRETCH Thursday’s win over the Wildcats stretched the Green and White’s run of regular season home victories to 16 games. That streak dates back to the final game of the 2010 season after campaigns of 8-0 and 7-0 the last two springs. ▶ 95% IS GOOD, RIGHT? In her 21 years of head coaching experience at Dartmouth, Amy Patton is 20-1 in home openers after the late-game heroics by her team Thursday.

▶ NOT TO BE OUTDONE Calby may have had the most points and Leto may have scored the biggest goal, but senior Courtney

Bennett had herself a solid outing against the Wildcats, scoring three times and assisting on another for a four-point afternoon. The three goals matched her previous career high, reached in two prior games. ▶ IVY OPENERS With Saturday marking the start of league play, it is interesting to note that Dartmouth has won its last four Ivy League openers dating back to the 2009 season. Three of those four wins came at Yale’s expense, while the 2010 opener featured a 15-1 victory at home against Columbia. The last time the Big Green lost in its Ivy debut was in 2008 to the Bulldogs, 9-8, in overtime. ▶ GOOD START Freshman Danielle Lisovicz scored the first goal of her collegiate career 10:40 into the second half against UNH. The first-year player found the back of the net on a free-position shot to give her team an 8-7 lead. ▶ ONE-GOAL GAMES After an 8-7 overtime win to start the year at Oregon, Dartmouth was tasked with playing another close affair against New Hampshire with the narrow 1110 victory. The back-to-back one-goal games was the first for the team since May 2011 when it beat No. 1 Maryland (9-8) and fell to Harvard (11-10) the following contest. ▶ WHAT’S NEXT? The Big Green will be back out on the road Wednesday, March 6 as they head to Boston University for a 3 p.m.

start. Dartmouth will return home for its next home game on Saturday, March 9 when it plays host to No. 2 Florida at Scully-Fahey Field at noon. ▶ WATCH OUT FOR HER For the second straight year, Big Green goalkeeper Kristen Giovanniello has been named to the Tewaarton Award Watch List. The annual accolade is presented to the top male and female college lacrosse player in the country at the conclusion of each year. Giovanniello was also on the list as a sophomore in 2012 following an All-American season the previous spring. ▶ OVERTIME GAMES With the win in Eugene, Dartmouth stretched its streak of victories in overtime games to three. The Big Green have played just one OT contest in each of the last two seasons, defeating No. 1 Maryland (2011) and No. 3 Duke (2012) prior to taking down the Ducks. The last overtime loss in a non-conference game for the Green came back on Mar. 18, 2009 against the then-No. 2 Terrapins (13-12). ▶ RANKS The team is once again ranked No. 12 and No. 13, respectively, in the latest releases of both the IWLCA and Inside Lacrosse deBeer Media Polls. That continues the program’s incredible stretch of being ranked in 67 consecutive match-ups.The last time Dartmouth played a game in which it was not ranked in the nation’s top-20 was a May 4, 2008 contest with Duke in the season’s final tilt. Since then, the Green have been ranked in every game played since the start of the 2009 season.

▶ NEW HAMPSHIRE • FEB. 27, 2013 ▶HEAD COACH AMY PATTON The 2013 season marks the 21st for head coach Amy Patton at Dartmouth, having led the Big Green to unprecedented success both within the Ivy League and on the national scale. With 209 career wins, 12 NCAA Tournament appearances, nine Ivy League championships and four NCAA Final Fours to her credit, Patton is one of the nation’s elite coaches. Beyond Hanover, Patton is an active part of U.S. Lacrosse, having recently served as head coach of the U.S. Women’s National Developmental team. Dartmouth has been a model of consistency under Patton, ranked in the IWLCA top-20 during every single season that she has coached and has ranked in the top-10 nationally in 18 of those, including in both 2010, 2011 and 2012. As a program, Dartmouth is one of just five teams to be ranked during every single season since the IWLCA began weekly polls in 1988. In 20 years as Dartmouth’s head coach, Patton owns a 221-103 overall record, 105-30 in Ivy League play, winning nearly 78 percent of Dartmouth’s conference games. Since her arrival in Hanover in 1993, the Big Green has reached double figures in wins 16 times and advanced past the NCAA first round seven times. Patton’s teams are no strangers to perfection, five times winning the Ivy League unbeaten, most recently in 2005. From 1997-2001, Dartmouth won 22 consecutive Ancient Eight contests, en route to threestraight 7-0 championship seasons. Dartmouth’s defense has ranked in the top-10 nationally in scoring defense seven times since 2002, including leading the nation in that category in 2006. In 2012, Patton and the Big Green finally won the Ivy League Tournament Championship, taking down top-seeded Penn, 6-4, in the title game. The Green

held the Quakers without a goal for 44 minutes to complete the comeback win two days after knocking off Cornell in a thrilling 9-8 game. In winning the crown, Dartmouth would advance to its 13th NCAA Tournament and the 12th since Patton took control of the program. Patton’s 19th season at the helm (2011) was a special one in which Dartmouth won its 11th Ivy League Championship and made its 12th NCAA Tournament appearance. Ranked as high as 10th nationally during the season, it marked a true return to glory for the Big Green, which had not won an Ivy title since 2005 and had not been to the postseason since 2006. Dartmouth also knocked off previously unbeaten No. 1 Maryland on May 1, snapping the Terps’ 28-game winning-streak and becoming the first team other than North Carolina to beat Maryland since 2008. Patton’s efforts have not gone unrewarded on a personal level. She was named the IWLCA National Coach of the Year in 1998, was one of three finalists for that honor in 1993 — her first season at the helm — and has been the Northeast Region’s Coach of the Year three times (1994, 1995, 1998). One of the most recognized names in college women’s lacrosse, Patton is a prominent member of the Intercollegiate Women’s Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA). She was vice president of the IWLCA for two years. Most recently, Patton headed the Brine All-America selection committee and has served on the Tewaaraton Trophy selection committee. Patton was a U.S. Squad selector in 1993, 1998, 1999, 2000, 2006, 2007 and 2008. She was also a member of the NCAA Women’s Lacrosse Committee and assistant coach for the U.S. National Developmental team in 1998-2000. Patton served as head coach of the developmental squad from 2006-09. Prior to her appointment as head coach at Dartmouth, Patton served as an assistant to former coach and athletics director Josie Harper from 1991-92. Patton served as an assistant for the University of Maryland women’s lacrosse team during the 1990 season. Patton is a 1988 graduate of the University of Maryland where she earned a bachelor’s degree in physical education. As an athlete, Patton was a four-year letterwinner in both lacrosse and field hockey, earning All-America and All-ACC accolades. She was a member of Maryland’s 1986 NCAA national championship lacrosse team and earned the Terps’ scholar-athlete award.
