Adult Fitness Programs Registered Programs Members Only Learn to Run 

This twice weekly guided club for beginners will provide you with the support, confidence and endurance needed to complete a 5 km run. Fitness Leadership Courses 

(18 yrs+) Take the first step to becoming a YMCA certified fitness leader. Learn basic anatomy, physiology, biomechanics, nutrition, conditioning and general fitness principles. Contact 519-623-9622 ext. 241 for more information

Martial Arts

Add martial arts to your workout regime! A great way to increase your cardio and strength fitness level. All martial arts for adults are non-registered programs. Join our instructors ready for a great workout. Uniforms and additional equipment can be purchased through the instructors.

Adult Aikido

Aikido (translated as “the way of peace with the universe”) is a martial art that is decidedly non-martial in outlook. We learn to take the energy given to us in an attack and redirect it in a safe direction. Come learn with us to coordinate your mind and body while in motion or at rest. Adult Judo

A traditional form of martial arts that focuses on grappling and throwing techniques with discipline and structure. Excellent for beginner, intermediate, and advanced participants. Location: Multipurpose Room #2 Wednesdays 8:30 pm – 10:00 pm Fridays 8:00 pm – 10:00 pm Sept. 11 – Dec. 13

Adult Tae Kwon Do

This Korean art form focuses on the conditioning of the body with emphasis on flexibility that enables students to learn and develop the Tae Kwon Do fighting system. Students will learn hand and foot techniques along with patterns, self defense and sparring. This is a highly recommended form of self-defense for women. Fitness Connection 

Do you have an interest in getting re-started in exercise after a few false starts, or do you need a follow up on your Fitness Orientation? This program might be right for you. You will receive support, advice and exercise instruction to help build a long term commitment to active living. Fitness Connection is included free with a membership.

This complimentary one-hour session will introduce you to our cardiovascular and strength training equipment and get you started on a basic total body exercise program. Workout clothing and athletic footwear is mandatory. Contact Membership Services staff to book an appointment. Mondays

Technogym Orientation 

All plus members interested in learning how to use the Technogym equipment must sign up for an orientation clinic prior to use. A trainer will guide you through the equipment and set up your personalized workout program. Register at Membership Services.

Personal Training 

This service is designed for YMCA of Cambridge members who need a little motivation or who want one-on-one personal attention with their exercise program. Certified Personal Trainers will help design a personal program for you, work with you through the program and provide motivation to assist you in meeting your fitness goals. Single sessions and packages of 6, 12 and 24 available. For more information on any of the fitness services, call 519-623-9622 ext. 245.


Wellness Programs

Mondays & Wednesdays 1:30 pm – 3:00 pm

This program is designed to help people new to exercise get started. This 8 week program will foster independence and self-motivation. Coaches will progress students through 8 weeks of fitness training in the Technogym Centre while monitoring and providing guidance. New to Exercise members will have the opportunity to connect with their trainer during their time slot and will be encouraged to fulfill two additional workouts on their own. Register at any time to begin your 8 weeks.

Breakthrough 

Member Free  Non-Member $150 +HST Exercise and education is an important component in the overall strategy for improving the health and strength of your bones. Suitable for anyone with bone and joint problems. Participants will attend three days per week. The program will consist of postural retraining, muscle strengthening and aerobic exercise. Fitness for Function at the Y 

This program is designed to help adults gain independence, improve endurance, strength, mobility, and to promote community integration. Participants must receive physician consent.

SMART START at the YMCA SMART START to a Healthy Heart: Cardiac Rehab 

Member Free Fee applies to Non-Member This 8 week supervised exercise program is designed for individuals who have completed their rehabilitative program at the hospital or cardiac care centre. SMART START to Healthy Living: Type 2 Diabetes Prevention & Management 

lifestyle. Supported by the Ministry of Health Promotion, Smart Start for Type 2 Diabetes Prevention & Management is a multi-week group program designed specifically for individual diagnosed with, or at risk of developing Type 2 Diabetes. Live Smart 

Member Free Non-Member $30/month Customized exercise support for individuals with conditions such as arthritis, diabetes, osteoporosis, COPD and controlled heart conditions. One hour sessions run 2x per week plus an optional pool session. Build your confidence through exercising with others with similar health concerns and support from YMCA trainers and volunteers. TRX®

Group Power® is your Hour of Power! Blast all your muscles with this highrep weight training workout. Using an adjustable barbell, weight plates and body weight, Group Power combines squats, lunges, presses and curls with functional integrated exercises.

This revolutionary new group training program is all about functional movements that develop strength, balance, flexibility and core stability simultaneously. It requires the use of the TRX® Suspension Trainer, which is a training tool that leverages gravity and the user’s body weight, to enable hundreds of exercises for every fitness level. Limited to 11 participants, please pick up a ticket prior to class at Membership Services to be able to participate. Meet in Multipurpose room 2/3.

A highly energetic workout combining intervals, circuit, strength, cardio and core training. Great for all fitness levels.

Cyclefit

Liquid Power Jog

High energy group cycling class incorporating drills adapted from road racing and mountain biking. Please pick up a ticket prior to class at Membership Services to be able to participate.

Aqua jogging is an exercise that practically anyone can take part in. The buoyancy of the water spares the knees, ankles, back and hips from the jarring and pounding your body experiences during normal running. The water’s support also makes aqua jogging ideal, if you are recovering from an injury. Aqua jogging allows you to go through all the motions of regular running without the adverse effects on your joints and bones. Please pick up a ticket prior to class at Membership Services to be able to participate.

Aquafit All components of fitness are challenged and trained in this energetic water workout using flotation belts to maintain buoyancy.

Functional Training A moderate intensity muscular strength and conditioning class focused on balance and posture, followed by core training and stretch. The exercises are designed to make everyday activities easier.

Fusion Fit A dynamic fitness class utilizing cardio, strength, stretch, yoga postures and positions, designed to develop strength and flexibility, reduce stress and tension and increase overall health and vitality.

Low Impact A moderate intensity cardio class without jumping, followed by core stability and a relaxing stretch segment. Great for all fitness levels.

Muscle Pump All muscle conditioning with core training followed by a stretch.

Step A cardio class using the step bench in choreographed patterns followed by core stability and a relaxing stretch segment.

Turbo Kick® A fusion of kickboxing moves as well as dance moves all choreographed to high energy and motivating music. Requires no previous kickboxing experience or equipment.

Gentle Yoga/ Hatha Yoga/ Kripalu Yoga/Stretch Yoga and Stretch techniques focus on flexibility, postures, breathing and meditation—designed to purify and strengthen mind, body and spirit. Dress in layers. Meet in Studio or Multipurpose room 2/3.

Feedback Days

During the week of November 5th, parents are welcome to meet the instructor to receive participant feedback. Meet on the deck for the last 10 minutes of the lesson. Please no shoes on the deck. Parents may wear sandals or purchase booties at the front desk for $0.50. Nov. 4 – 10, 2013

Drop-In Lessons

These 30 minute lessons are designed for those who are currently only on a waiting list and want to enjoy an informal lesson until registered spots become available. Sign up at Membership Services 15 minutes prior to the start of the lesson. Refer to Swim Lesson chart on page 2 for times.

Adapted Aquatics 

Member Free  Non-Member $65 This 13 week program is designed for children with physical, developmental and communication disabilities who require specialized instruction in order to progress their swimming skills. This program runs on Saturday evening where the child will be able to partake in lesson with one of are lifeguards and stay for an open swim with there parent/guardian after the lesson. To maintain safety a parent must be changed and on the pool deck during the lesson. Saturdays

How to become a Lifeguard/Instructor

Must bring proof of certification to recertify (no photocopies). If no proof is given participants will be asked to leave the course without refund.

Interested in becoming a lifeguard/instructor at the YMCA of Cambridge? Follow the aquatic leadership progression chart. Specific details about courses can be found on the Advanced Aquatics program sheet.

Register at Membership Services. In compliance with new WSIB requirements, holders of Standard First Aid and CPR-C must take the recert at the original agency.

The Junior Lifeguard Club offers serious fun for kids 8 years and up who can swim at least 25m and tread water for 2 minutes. The Jr. Lifeguard Club provides an action-packed challenge for kids who love the water but who want more than “lessons.”

Private Lessons

Private lessons are for participants 3 years and up. Lessons can be tailored to suit personal goals, such as stroke improvement, or enhance water safety skills. Private lessons are booked on a first come first serve basis- private lessons will not be reserved or “held”. Contact 519-623-9622 ext. 230 to book an appointment. Parents should be aware that the child & family services act requires that any suspicion of child abuse be reported immediately to Family and Children Services. The aquatic programs of the YMCA are about more than just techniques and skills; they are about building friendships, developing self esteem and creating positive experiences that will last a lifetime. •  Any swimmer with a serious medical condition should inform YMCA staff upon registration •  YMCA swimming lessons are for members only. •  Members may only be registered for one learn-to-swim program and must be of age by the first day of the lesson. •  Once a member turns of age to move to another time slot, it is the parent’s responsibility to do so. •  We assume that once a member has missed four lessons within the session they have withdrawn from the program. Missed lessons cannot be made up. It is the responsibility of the parent to track missed lessons. •  If a missed lesson is a result of an extenuating circumstance, please contact 519-623-9622 ext. 230. •  Spectating in clothes on the deck is not permitted. Viewing area is located in the food court. •  Photos can only be taken if permission is obtained from the parent/guardian of each child in the picture. Photographic equipment of any kind is not permitted in any of our changerooms or washrooms.

General Pool Rules •  The pool is governed by Regulation 565 of the Ontario Health Protection and Promotion Act and Community Health Department. •  All Bathers must take a warm soapy shower prior to entering or re-entering the pool deck. •  Any swimmer with a serious medical condition should inform a lifeguard. •  All swimmers must wear gender appropriate swim attire. •  Use of flotation devices are not permitted in the deep end. •  Children not completely toilet trained must wear snug fitting rubber pants or specialty swim diapers. •  In the event of a fouling, the Community Health Department requires pool closure. Lessons cannot be made up. •  Shoes are not permitted on the pool deck. For $0.50 boot covers can be purchased at Membership Services to slip over your footwear. •  For admissions standards, see Membership Services. Slide Rules •  The slide is governed by TSSA and Ontario Amusement Devices Act. •  Riders must be at least 4 feet tall and swim 25 m (1 length) unassisted. •  Only one rider on the slide at a time. •  Adults may not catch a child at the bottom of the slide. Sauna Rules •  Water bottles, literature and food (including chewing tobacco) are not permitted in the sauna. •  Patrons must wear swim appropriate attire in the sauna. •  Sauna is electric, pouring water on the element can cause fire or breakdown. Whirlpool Users •  The whirlpool is only accessible during open and lane swim times. •  Users must be sitting on whirlpool bench with their head above water. •  Swimming toys and flotation devices are not permitted. •  The maximum number of bathers in the whirl pool is 15.

Preschool Programs Stay ‘N Play (Infant – 6 yrs)

Member $2/child/session Non-Member $5/child/session The Stay ‘N Play Centre offers a safe, secure and caring environment for children while their parents or caregivers participate in YMCA activities in the building. Payment tickets may be purchased at Member Services. A session consists of any 2-hour period in either the morning or evening. A $20 babysitting package will be offered allowing members and non-members the convenience of pre-paying for sessions as well as a discounted rate per session. Kinder Sports (3 – 5 yrs) Come have fun playing sports while learning new skills. Variety of sports include soccer, floor hockey, basketball and more all catered to the young player.

This is an entirely new way of working out with a stability ball! Using the benefits of play with purpose, drumming, brain gym and cardiovascular exercise, this workout will leave you energized, laughing and begging for more. A unique fitness experience for all ability levels. Limited to 30 participants on a first come first serve basis.

(2 – 5 yrs, parent participating) Join your little one for a romping good time! You will be guided through 30 minutes of sports and movement on our tumbler mats and then head to the pool for a big splash!

Children will be introduced to a variety of dance movements including ballet, progressing to mini performances.

Experiment and learn the basic skills of floor hockey with other preschoolers.

Babysitting Course  (11 yrs+)

Member $30 In this two day course, you will learn the basic skills and knowledge to care for young children including key first aid skills. Minimum 75% on written exam and 100% attendance required. Do you want a motivational program that focuses on physical activity, discipline and control? Check out one of our martial arts programs. Get creative and experience the fun of arts and crafts! Kids will dabble in painting, drawing, and cut and paste as they use their imagination and create their own masterpieces. Join us on the following dates for seasonal crafts: October 6 – Thanksgiving December 8 – Christmas

Creative Tumblers (6 – 9 yrs)

During this movement class, instruction and opportunities for creative exploration will foster body awareness, tumbling skills and coordination.

Kids in Action (6 – 9 yrs)

Let’s play and get fit. This gym class will engage kids in a new activity each week ranging from skipping, walking, balance exercises, sports and games. Each theme will touch on the components of fitness and healthy living. Location: Gym Mondays 5:00 pm – 6:00 pm

Kids Zone (6 yrs+)

A great place to hang out. The area is equipped with a Wii system, tables and chairs for board games, homework and a comfortable place to just sit and read. Kids must be signed in to the program by a parent/guardian in order to participate.

Soccer (6 – 9 yrs & 10 – 14 yrs)

A chance to learn and improve skills.

Hoops (6 – 9 yrs & 10 – 14 yrs) Supervised open basketball.

Badminton (6 – 9 yrs & 10 – 14 yrs) Join us in the gym for badminton.

Floor Hockey (6 – 9 yrs & 10 – 14 yrs)

A chance to learn the basics, shooting and passing, and to put your skills to the test as you play in a fun and supportive environment.

Family Table Tennis

(6 – 14 yrs, parent participating) Join us in the gym for table tennis!

Family Badminton

(6 – 14 yrs, parent participating) Come have some fun and pair up with a family member.

Birthday Parties 

(3 – 10 yrs, maximum 15 children) Member $110  Non-Member $140 $25 non-refundable administration fee included in price. Plan to spend a fun-filled birthday at the Y! Party Package Includes: 3 hours of room access that will be decorated to the gender of the child. A YMCA Party Host will meet your group and escort the kids to the gym for an hour of structured activities or a game of choice. Parties will also have the option of choosing a craft that will be led by the Party Host. Pool access is optional and it is the responsibility of the adults to provide proper supervision and meet all required ratios while swimming. All food and drinks must be provided by the parents. Winter Break & PD Day Camps  Y Winter Days

(Junior 4 & 5 yrs & School Age 6 – 12 yrs) $40 per day Campers get ready for a fun and exciting time! Camp programs will feature a special theme for the morning and then campers will engage in traditional camp games, arts & crafts, swimming in the afternoon to complete the winter camp experience. Y Day Camp (4 - 12 yrs) $40 per day Come and join us for a day of fun at the Y! Campers will engage in traditional camp games, arts and crafts, and swimming every afternoon. Register today at Membership Services. 9:00 am – 4:00 pm Sept. 13, 27, Oct. 11 Early supervision from 7:30 – 9:00 am and late supervision from 4:00 – 5:30 pm is available for all camps at no additional charge.
