I

t’s my hope as we approach the end of 2014 that everyone has seen growth in both their personal life and their business; and that we all see a bright future for 2015. It has been a great year for the Greensboro Builders Association and I thank you for allowing me the opportunity to serve as your president. There are several highlights from this year that I would like to mention: •

Both the Spring and Fall Parade of Homes had an increase in number of entries as well as the number of prospective, qualified customers that builders were able to interact with.

The Tour of Remodeled Homes provided a great opportunity for remodelers and associate members to showcase their quality of work, products and services to prospective clients, highlighting the value of professional remodeling.

Our community service project in conjunction with Community Housing Solutions – ReBuilding Hope – was a big success with more than 30 builders and suppliers participating along with countless number of employees to rehab a 1920’s home to like-new condition so that it could be sold to a low income family in our community.

The CAPS – Certified Aging-in-Place Specialist – courses were held quarterly at our offices with participants from numerous states attending to obtain their national certification. As our population continues to age, there will be a greater demand for these classes which we will continue to offer in 2015.

Special thanks to everyone who contributed to Build-PAC this year and to our partnership with TREBIC – who works with us to identify and elect political officials who belief in and support our industry.

In closing, I would like to thank our great staff that keeps the heart and soul of GBA running smoothly and all our members that have served this year on our councils, committees and Board of Directors. We would also like to thank all our sponsors and advertisers that make it possible for us to offer the programs and services we provide. As I finish my year as your president, I would like to encourage you to join us for our Holiday Open House on Thursday, December 4 from 4 - 7 pm at the GBA office. We will be installing Tom Hall as our 2015 President along with our newly elected Board of Directors at 4 pm, followed by a networking social from 4:30 – 7:00 pm. Hope to see you there! Again, thanks for everything this year...it has been an honor to serve as your president.

Rebuilding Hope.. Providing affordable housing for low-income families in our community

G

reensboro Builders Association members – builders, remodelers, suppliers and trade contractors – partnered this fall with Community Housing Solutions to renovate a home at 1123 Gregory Street in the historic Glenwood neighborhood. The project called ReBuilding Hope is one way our Builders Association gives back to the Greensboro community by donating skilled services along with building materials to build stronger neighborhoods helping preserve affordable home ownership. This year’s renovation project was a home that was built in 1920 and was previously owned by an elderly couple. Construction began in July with a complete demolition addressing lead paint and asbestos abatement. The home received a complete make-over and is in likenew condition along with being certified by Advanced Energy as a Home Performance with Energy Star home.

To date our association has completed more than 10 home renovations through our Rebuilding Hope partnership with Community Housing Solutions. The majority of these renovations have been spearheaded and coordinated by members of our Remodelers Council.

Many of the original features of the home were restored as well as replicated including the craftsman style door and windows. The home was enlarged from a two bedroom one bath home with the addition of a third bedroom and second bathroom making it an attractive home for a qualified new homeowner.

Community Housing Solutions was started in 2004 as a local nonprofit dedicated to providing decent, safe and affordable housing to low-income families. The work of Community Housing Solutions has resulted in more than $3.7 million invested in preserving affordable housing for more than 375 low-income families. To learn more about Community Housing Solutions and ways you can contribute or volunteer, visit their website at www.chshousing.org.

Builder News Tour of Remodeled Homes For remodeling contractors, participation in the annual Tour of Remodeled Homes is a great way to set your company apart from other remodelers. Tentative date for our 2015 Tour is Friday – Sunday, August 7 – 9. Tour entries can be ANY renovation that has previously been completed or will be finalized by June 30, 2015. Tour entries provide consumers the opportunity to visualize and see first-hand what they might be able to do within their own home. The Tour also provides increased exposure for both the remodeler and associate members involved in the renovation.

Market Your Business to Consumers With more than 175 licensed general contractors that are members of the Greensboro Builders Association…consumers often don’t know where to start their search for a builder and/or remodeler. However, they are aware of the annual Parade of Homes and Tour of Remodeled Homes. In addition to gaining face-to-face time with consumers during these home tours, your company’s marketing information remains on the GBA website and mobile APP for 6-12 months…giving you a marketing advantage over those who don’t participate. As you develop your 2015 Marketing Plan…consider participating in one of our three annual home tour events.

Parade of Homes Promoting NEW construction and communities, we will again be offering both a spring and fall Parade of Homes in 2015 to allow builders continued flexibility based on marketing of existing inventory and timing for new construction.

Spring

April 25-26 & May 2-3

Fall October 10-11 & 17-18

Builders are encouraged to work with clients to enter presales in the Parade. This enables the builder along with their suppliers and subcontractors the opportunity to take advantage of this consumer-oriented marketing event. The various Parade incentives provided by suppliers can often be a deciding factor for your homeowner to participate. Early Registration for the 2015 Spring Parade of Homes is underway. Participation Agreements can be found on the GBA website at www.GreensboroBuilders.org.

Both the Parade and Tour provide sponsorship and advertising opportunities through the event magazines…as well as our online mobile website applications. The collective marketing, coupled with the consistent branding of these events, is a win-win for all involved generating qualified traffic and potential clients. Even in the toughest of economies, the Parade and Tour continue to provide a valuable return on your investment. Plan now to incorporate these events in your annual marketing for 2015.
