O

ur membership and staff organized numerous activities that involved many of our members in the second quarter. Thank you for your participation and thank you to each of our sponsors who make many of these events happen!

Our “Young Professionals” continued their active schedule with several events this spring. They hosted another well attended “After Hours” networking event at Gibb’s Brewery; cooked hamburgers and hot dogs for all GBA members and their families at “Family Fun Night”; and hosted a “School of Hard Knocks” panel discussion with several experienced (OLD) Builder and Associate members sharing some of their valuable lessons learned with a group of young professionals. In addition we had another successful Spring Parade of Homes with exceptional attendance; a Builder Roundtable with Edsel Charles sharing his assessment of our housing market (things continue to look up); and we had a full slate of golfers at the Spring Golf outing. Our Golf Committee was in full force and easily spotted in their new Lime Green attire! A personal highlight was attending the second quarter NCHBA meetings in Raleigh. Eight representatives from GBA and TREBIC had the opportunity to meet with our local legislators and educate them on major legislative issues affecting our industry and encourage them to support our needs. Our advocacy efforts were successful as our industry had some important victories during this legislative session. Our influence is important and shows why our individual support of BUILD-PAC is so important. Please see Cheryl Collins or Phil Warrick to make your contribution to Build-PAC so we can continue to effectively support our representatives that support us.

So What’s Next… The Tour of Remodeled Homes will be held August 7-9 with 10 of our Remodeler members and countless Associate members showcasing their quality workmanship and innovative products. Bring your friends and support our members as they demonstrate their craftsmanship. Planning is underway for our Fall Parade of Homes to be held October 17-18 & 24-25…entry deadline is August 14. This is another great opportunity to showcase quality workmanship of our members to area consumers. And we’re gearing up for another Raising Roofs…Builders for Habitat build the week of November 2-6! As we move into the fall, there are numerous events and opportunities to be involved. You can find a sampling of activities occurring over the next several months throughout this publication. So check them out and find one that fits you…and bring a friend! We also encourage you to utilize the GBA website and Member News emails to stay abreast of upcoming events and initiatives.

Our Fall Parade of Homes will be held Saturday & Sunday, October 17-18 & 24-25 showcasing new homes and neighborhoods throughout Greensboro and Guilford County. Take advantage of the opportunity to market existing inventory, pre-sales and spec homes. Builder participation not only promotes your company…it also helps your suppliers and trade contractors gain name recognition as valued and trusted industry resources. The greater the participation of our members…the stronger message to consumers we send that NOW is the best time to consider buying and/or building a new home. Information on each Parade home remains on the GBA website and Parade of Homes mobile app for six months, providing continued exposure and marketing benefits for your company. It serves as an added resource for consumers looking to find a builder and/or remodeler. Existing homes, newly constructed homes and homes that are near completion and safe for the consumer to walk through can be entered in the Fall Parade of Homes. Unfinished homes must adhere to the established guidelines with emphasis on the homes being safe for the general public to enter.

Raising Roofs…Builders for Habitat

Five Houses…Five Days… November 2-6

Tropical Jersey Night at the Ballpark Thursday, August 20

I

n 2003, we entered into a partnership with Habitat for Humanity of Greater Greensboro to build 12 homes in one week...called Raising Roofs…Builders for Habitat. This initiative continues to be tremendously successful due to the generous contribution of Association members. To date through this every other year build, GBA members and their industry partners have constructed 50 homes…and we’re building more this year! We will be conducting a one-week build the week of November 2-6 with the goal of constructing 5 homes in Quail Oaks West. From foundation to dedication in five days…this week is an amazing opportunity for local businesses and members to get involved and support our community. Builder teams are currently being formed…with our initial team meeting scheduled for Thursday, August 27 to get floor plans along with construction notebooks…more importantly, draw for team t-shirt colors! We are working to secure donated building materials and labor to help offset our construction expenses. We also need hospitality and logistic sponsors.

Anyone interested in participating - please contact Raising Roofs chair John Hodgin at (336) 362-0163; Cheryl Collins at (336) 855-6255 or ccollins@greensborobuilders.org; or Mavis Holcombe at (336) 706-6942.

Pest Management Systems invites you to join in the fun at Tropical Jersey Night on Thursday, August 20 as the Greensboro Grasshoppers take on the Hickory Crawdads. This is the 12th year that PMi has sponsored Tropical Jersey Night with all proceeds supporting Raising Roofs…Builders for Habitat. Join us at the game and place a bid at the Silent Auction table for the “game worn” tropical jersey of your favorite player. At the end of the game, the winning bidders have the opportunity to meet the players on the field and receive their autographed jerseys.
