SUNRISE Accepting Change By David Coy What would you answer if you were asked Where are you, in your journey with grief? Are you isolating yourself, are you trying to keep your life exactly as it was before the tumultuous change that has occurred? We do not usually pause to think about the fact, but our life is continually in a state of change. Yet this change that has come into our life is extreme, very dramatic and large. Accepting the reality of change is sometimes very difficult. Here are some skills we must work through in order to move forward. Come, let us reason together. First, we must let the past be the past. Some people have the desire to live in the past. It is alright to take small steps forward as long as we are taking the steps forward. We begin by accepting the lifestyle change. Then we need to perform the responsibilities demanded in the new life thrust upon us.

Are we willing to describe the pain, to tell where it hurts? Are we willing to do this as frequently, and as long (duration) as necessary? Are we willing to seek the support that is available and that we need? Secondly, we must reach forward. This will require us to communicate to family, friends or others our needs continually. This will also require us to be honest with our feelings, the good, the bad, the ugly. Finally, what is our goal? What do we desire to happen or exist in our life in the long run? Allowing our support to help us here is crucial. Our mind may be in a fog or cloud, feeling a difficulty to focus and concentrate. Some have even reported the inability to multitask. Our support will be able to assist us to maintain focus on our goal, but only to the extent we allow. Let them help. This is Sunrise.
