You can register for programs in one of two ways: online at www.carson.org/ccpr or by visiting the MAC, Carson Aquatic Facility, or Community Center (between 2:30pm6:30pm).

If you see this symbol, it means it is a brand new program that we have not offered before. Sign up, enjoy, then tell us what you think. We are always trying to improve our programs and offer new experiences to the community.

CANCELATION/REFUND POLICY

Refunds will be given only when a program is canceled by the Parks and Recreation Department. Canceled contract class refunds will be the responsibility of the instructor. Refunds requested for any other reason will be determined at the discretion of management and may be subject to a 10% processing fee. Refunds may take 2-3 weeks to process.

• Children of all ages and abilities are welcome.

• Each session consists of eight, 30-minute lessons.

• Classes are held on Monday-Thursday for two weeks (except where noted)

• No make-up classes will be available for missed classes unless a class is cancelled by the Aquatic Facility.

Aquatic Programs

AQUACIZE

Aquacize is a co-ed water exercise program for adults of all ages, in a friendly, energetic atmosphere. Swimming skills are not required. No music is used so the pace is relaxed. This low-impact, water exercise program will tone muscles of all parts of the body with less stress on muscles. Classes are one hour long. Drop-ins welcome.

RANGE OF MOTION

ASD SWIM LESSONS

Inclusive lessons for individuals on the Autism Spectrum or other special needs requiring additional attention. All abilities are welcome. Classes are designed to have a maximum of 3:1 ratio and help participants learn how to be water safe. This is a drop-in program so come and try it out. Days and times may change due to instructor availability.

Ages 18+

This class is designed to increase mobility and range of motion through a series of gentle, head-to-toe exercises in the 92 degree Adult Therapy Pool. These exercises are extremely low impact and are perfect for those with arthritis or who are recovering from surgery or injury. If physical limitations, injuries, joint pain, or stiffness limit your mobility and/or exercising options, this class might be just what you need. Swimming skills not required. Exercises are not cardiovascular in nature.

A 45-minute deep water cardio workout with music. A flotation belt is provided.

Ages 3-14

Making the water fun for your guppy is the most important step in preparing for swim lessons. This class is designed to acquaint adult and child with play activities and to teach some very basic fundamental skills. The course is parent-driven, under the supervision of an instructor. No registration is required. Class is limited to 12 adult/child pairs, on a first-come, first-served basis.

2024 CAPITAL CITY KIDS’ TRIATHLON

HOSTED BY CARSON CITY TIGERSHARKS

This race is the perfect introduction to the world of triathlons for children ages 4-13. The aim of the game is smiles and competition. Swim at Carson City’s indoor Olympicsized pool, and bike and run in iconic Mills Park.

JUNIOR LIFEGUARD

This camp is perfect for those who love the water and are interested in learning some basic lifeguarding skills. Participants must have the ability to swim front crawl for 25 yards, breast stroke for 25 yards, tread water for 1 minute and exit the pool without stairs or ladder.

DROP-IN WATER POLO

This is a casual water polo opportunity for all skills levels. It’s a fun way to get in or stay in shape. Equipment is provided. This is a drop-in program and no instruction is provided.

Ever wanted to learn how to kayak, or to keep up with your skills during the off-season? The Carson Aquatic Facility is opening its doors to kayakers. This is a drop-in program and no instruction is provided. Please clean your kayak before entering the facility, or ask staff for access to a hose.

RED CROSS LIFEGUARD CERTIFICATION

Get trained as a lifeguard today! Red Cross Lifeguard Certification is a good way to seek lifeguard employment at facilities across the country, or just take the class to learn valuable skills in lifesaving, first aid, and CPR. Participants must be able to pass a pre skills swim test. The course is a blended learning program, where some course work will be online at home and the rest will be in person.

CARSON TIGERSHARKS COMPETITIVE SWIM PROGRAM

League swimming is the best way to be introduced to the sport of swimming without the high commitment of an elite club. Leagues run on a seasonal basis, and competitions are short and fun, typically running 2-3 hours. The Carson Tigersharks emphasize stroke technique, racing, and friendships for junior swimmers (aged 5-12) and senior swimmers (aged 13-18). ENTRY REQUIREMENTS: One 25yd length of front crawl, one 25yd length of back crawl, comfortable in deep water. MASTER’S SWIM MEET

The Masters Silver State Championships co-hosted by Sierra Nevada Masters Swim Team, Carson Tigersharks, and the Carson Aquatic Facility. A fun low stress swim meet for adults. If you are a competitive swimmer, or former competitive swimmer looking to get back into competition, this swim meet is for you. It is a long course (50 meter) swim meet with age protected divisions. Must be registered with United States Masters Swimming (USMS) in order to compete. You can sign up for USMS here: USMS.org. The Carson City Aquatic Facility is partnering with Carson Animal Services Initiative (CASI) to offer an aquatic adventure for your pups! Pets must be at least 6 months old, current on vaccinations, and friendly around other dogs that are in season. Tennis balls, extra towels and dog treats are provided. The Splash Pad is located in McFadden Plaza, off Carson Street, across from the Nevada State Legislature. The Splash Pad is free and open to the public.

The Goal Getters Jog & Walk program is a great way to beat the summer heat and get your body moving. Each week participants will jog & walk at the Carson City MAC indoor track. Every lap a participant completes will be accounted for and the distance will be measured at the end of each session. As a team of Goal Getters participants will set out to go the distance.

RENO ACES GAME/STADIUM TOUR

Join the Carson City Parks & Recreation Department as we host a fun-filled day at the Reno Aces game on June 16, 2024, as the Aces take on the rival Sacramento Rivercats! With the price of ticket admission, guests will be treated to an optional facility tour from Aces staff before the game and youth will have the opportunity to run the bases after the game! Spaces are limited for the park tour, so we recommend purchasing tickets ahead of time. Participants are responsible for transportation and parking costs at the stadium. SKYHAWKS INDOOR SOCCER CAMP

Skyhawks was founded as a soccer club in 1979. Thirty years later we are still the number one choice for parents looking to refine their child's fundamentals of the world's most popular sport. Indoor Roller Derby! Girls and boys ages 10-17 will learn the basics of flat-track roller derby in a 6 week off-skates program before joining the rest of the team on the track. Once on skates, participants will learn how to skate safely and be taught derby rules and skills. Core Programs

Each age group will have a core program they will participate in for 1-2 hours per week throughout the summer.

Miners (Kindergarten and 1st Grade) - PBS Kids: This resource is a collection of multi-media activities from kid’s favorite PBS shows and characters.

Big Horns (2nd Grade) - NRPA Wildlife Explorers: This program comes from the NRPA (National Recreation and Parks Association), and connects youth to nature through a variety of nature-based games and activities; while completing their own Wildlife Explorer Workbook.

Wolf Pack (3rd and 4th Grade) - Sports Revolution: This new program will introduce kids to new games and sports that are age-appropriate and inspire them to have fun and be active.

Capitals (5th & 6th Grades) - Exploration Nation: This program, designed by Carson City Parks and Recreation, teaches the value of nature and being active in the outdoors. Each week, Capitals will participate in a local outdoor activity such as hiking, biking, or fishing, often aided by organizations such as the Nevada Department of Wildlife.

SWIM LESSONS

All campers have the ability to participate in swim lessons while attending Camp. Swim lessons will be offered at a special time specific to Camp Carson campers. Don’t worry about getting your kids to swim lessons, Camp staff will take care of that for you. Additional fee and registration required.

FIELD TRIPS

Campers will have the ability to participate in a regional field trip each week. Regional field trips charter school buses, and take campers to locations in Reno, Tahoe, or Douglas County for the majority of the day. Regional field trips are optional and require registration and additional fees.

“GLO-RDUNO” MEMORIAL GLOW IN THE DARK COED KICKBALL TOURNAMENT

The inaugural “GLO-RDUNO” coed adult kickball tournament is a glow in the dark, 3-game guarantee, kickball tournament. All teams are strongly encouraged to dress in neon or glow in the dark themed attire. INTRO TO BACKPACKING

This class is designed to teach the beginner the basics to get you out on the trail. Each trip begins with a pre-trip preparation class on Wednesday at 6pm before the trip to go over itinerary and get fitted for the gear you’ll be using. Then we’ll take you on an overnight backpacking trip to an alpine lake. Backpacking equipment and transportation is included. Moderate fitness level is required.

SKIING IS BELIEVING MOUNTAIN BIKE CLINICS

The Carson City Parks and Recreation Department has partnered with Skiing is Believing on offering mountain bike clinics for both youth and adults. GRAVITY GIRLS (Ages 8-18)

A three-week development all-girls mountain bike program meant to help young girls fall in love with the sport of mountain biking.

DOWNHILL DEVILS (Ages 10-18)

An advanced three-week mountain bike program with certified BICP coaches meant to improve and perfect the downhill skills and techniques of youth riders who are already skilled and confident on their mountain bikes.

SCHOOL MINIMUM DAY ADVENTURES

Let’s take advantage of school getting out early and do some fun activities. Each minimum day we’ll have something planned to get outside or participate in some adventurous activity. Transportation is provided from the Community Center to the day’s destination. Please pack lunch/ snacks and water. Space is limited so register early. Meet at the Community Center 6th -12th Grades

SUMMIT CAMP (Ages 8-18)

A one day introductory to intermediate mountain biking intended to hone skills and techniques on the bike so you can hit the trail full throttle!

PARENT TOT HIKES

Enjoy the fresh air with your little one and a group of other toddler parents. This is a meet on location activity. Bring your child carrier backpack or we have a couple available for rent. Pack a lunch as we will finish in a picnic area. Specific meeting location will be sent out to those registered. Advanced registration is required.

During mountain bike program, women will learn, practice and be introduced to the skills of positions that will make them a better, more confident rider. Instructors are allfemale BICP-certified coaches.

Park Ranger-Led Programs

In 1996, Carson City residents voted for the Quality of Life Initiative which created the Open Space program. Carson City now has thousands of acres of Open Space and miles of trails. Come check out Carson’s beautiful Open Space properties on one of the many interpretive hikes. They’re free and great for all ages.

NATIONAL TRAILS DAY

Join the Carson City Parks, Recreation and Open Space Department for a celebratory hike at the Foothill Trailhead in honor of National Trails Day! National Trails Day allows us to recognize all the benefits we have from our local trail systems and appreciate the ability to be in nature. On this year’s National Trails Day, Carson City Open Space will be launching the new “Trails Challenge”, a program created to encourage the exploration of Carson City’s many trails and open spaces, with one of the trails on the “Trails Challenge” being the V&T Trail. During the hike you will see trail maintenance being done and learn about the history of the V&T Trail, including the old V&T Railroad and the natural history of the plants in the area.

For the third year in a row, Carson City kids, as well as surrounding areas, can become the ultimate Jr Park Ranger by attending the Regional Jr Ranger Day! This year, the event will be hosted by Nevada State Parks at Washoe Lake State Park. Festivities began at 10:00am and will run until 2:00pm. The Carson City Park Rangers, as well as Washoe County Regional Parks will be joining in on the fun at Washoe Lake.

BOB BOLDRICK BLOCK PARTY

The Bob Boldrick Theater inside the Carson City Community Center is turning 50! Play games, create art, participate in fun classes hosted by various theater groups, go on a backstage tour, grab a treat from local food trucks, and share your favorite memories from the last 50 years at the theater - or make some new ones! A showcase performance at 2pm will highlight some of the amazing acts that have graced the celebrated stage.
