You can register for programs in one of two ways: online at www.carson.org/ccpr or by visiting the MAC, Carson Aquatic Facility, or Community Center (between 2:30pm6:30pm).

If you see this symbol, it means it is a brand new program that we have not offered before. Sign up, enjoy, then tell us what you think. We are always trying to improve our programs and offer new experiences to the community.

CANCELATION/REFUND POLICY

Refunds will be given only when a program is canceled by the Parks and Recreation Department. Canceled contract class refunds will be the responsibility of the instructor. Refunds requested for any other reason will be determined at the discretion of management and may be subject to a 10% processing fee. Refunds may take 2-3 weeks to process.

• Children of all ages and abilities are welcome.

• Each session consists of eight, 30-minute lessons.

• Classes are held on Mondays and Wednesdays for four weeks (except where noted)

• No make-up classes will be available for missed classes unless a class is cancelled by the Aquatic Facility.

• Please schedule lessons carefully. If a lesson is cancelled less than 7 days prior to the scheduled lesson, no refund will be given.

Aquatics

AQUACIZE

Aquacize is a co-ed water exercise program for adults of all ages, in a friendly, energetic atmosphere. Swimming skills are not required. No music is used so the pace is relaxed. This low-impact, water exercise program will tone muscles of all parts of the body with less stress on muscles. Classes are one hour long. Drop-ins welcome.

Carson Aquatic Facility 18yrs+

RANGE OF MOTION

This class is designed to increase mobility and range of motion through a series of gentle, head-to-toe exercises in the 92 degree Adult Therapy Pool. These exercises are extremely low impact and are perfect for those with arthritis or who are recovering from surgery or injury. If physical limitations, injuries, joint pain, or stiffness limit your mobility and/or exercising options, this class might be just what you need. Swimming skills not required. Exercises are not cardiovascular in nature.

CARSON TIGERSHARKS COMPETITIVE SWIM PROGRAM

League swimming is the best way to be introduced to the sport of swimming without the high commitment of an elite club. Leagues run on a seasonal basis, and competitions are short and fun, typically running 2-3 hours. The Carson Tigersharks emphasize stroke technique, racing, and friendships for junior swimmers (aged 5-12) and senior swimmers (aged 13-18). ENTRY REQUIREMENTS: One 25yd length of front crawl, one 25yd length of back crawl, comfortable in deep water. RED CROSS LIFEGUARD CERTIFICATION

Get trained as a lifeguard today! Red Cross Lifeguard Certification is a good way to seek lifeguard employment at facilities across the country, or just take the class to learn valuable skills in lifesaving, first aid, and CPR. Participants must be able to pass a pre skills swim test. The course is a blended learning program, where some course work will

GROWN-UPS & GUPPIES

Making the water fun for your guppy is the most important step in preparing for swim lessons. This class is designed to acquaint adult and child with play activities and to teach some very basic fundamental skills. The course is parent-driven, under the supervision of an instructor. No registration is required. Class is limited to 12 adult/child pairs, on a first-come, first-served basis.

This is a casual water polo opportunity for all skills levels. It’s a fun way to get in or stay in shape. Equipment is provided. This is a drop-in program and no instruction is provided.

Ever wanted to learn how to kayak, or to keep up with your skills during the off-season? The Carson Aquatic Facility is opening its doors to kayakers. This is a drop-in program and no instruction is provided. Please clean your kayak before entering the facility, or ask staff for access to a hose.

ASD SWIM LESSONS

Inclusive lessons for individuals on the Autism Spectrum or other special needs requiring additional attention. All abilities are welcome. Classes are designed to have a maximum of 3:1 ratio and help participants learn how to be water safe. This is a drop-in program so come and try it out. Days and times may change due to instructor availability.

SELF-PACED TRIATHLON

Beat the holiday guilt and accomplish something you never knew you could! This triathlon is designed to be completed on your own time and your own pace. Track and record your progress over a 40 day period. Those who reach their goal will earn a t-shirt.

This course is for individuals who have previously completed a lifeguard certification course and are interested in becoming an instructor to certify lifeguards. This course is one session and all dates listed are required.

Adaptive Recreation

The Movers & Doers program provides recreational experiences for individuals of all abilities and their families. Activities are designed to contribute to the physical, mental, social, emotional growth, and development of all individuals. FALL BOWLING LEAGUE

Bowling is a great way to meet new friends, stay active and participate in a weekly league. Bowlers will get the chance to play 2 games of bowling and receive shoes while bowling, if needed. For those that would like to play an extra game, there will be an additional $2.00/per game charge. Season is 8 weeks or you can participate on week by week basis.

Join us for the Movers & Doers annual pumpkin patch trip. This year we will be visiting the Andelin Family Farm in Sparks, NV where participants will enjoy the Animals on the Farm, a Duck Race Activity, Hay Bale Maze, Hayride & Barrel Train rides and access to the Pumpkin Patch where you can pick your own pumpkin (1 pumpkin included).

The Goal Getters Jog & Walk program is a great way to beat the winter breeze and get your body moving. Each week participants will jog & walk at the Carson City MAC indoor track. Every lap a participant completes will be accounted for and the distance will be measured at the end of each session. As a team of Goal Getters participants will set out to go the distance.

Youth Sports

YOUTH INSTRUCTIONAL VOLLEYBALL

This five-week instructional program prepares volleyball players for league play, once they are a little older. The program focuses on teaching the fundamentals of volleyball. Registration August 11-September 25.

LITTLE SENATORS INSTRUCTIONAL BASKETBALL

This is a great instructional program for boys and girls who are in 1st or 2nd grade. Experience is not necessary to join this program as this program is designed to teach children the proper fundamentals of basketball. Participants will practice dribbling, passing, defensive positions, and of course proper shooting techniques. Includes 10 sessions and a basketball to keep. Registration October 1November 27.

YOUTH BASKETBALL LEAGUES

The youth basketball program provides players the opportunity to develop basic skills, team play and sportsmanship. Teams are grouped by ability through our “warmups”. “Warm up” dates can be seen at www.carson. org/sports. All players are required to play a minimum amount of playing time in each game. Games are played at the MAC, Community Center and Middle Schools. Practices begin in December and games will begin in January. PRACTICE TIMES AND GAME TIMES VARY. Volunteer coaches needed, must be at least 18 and be able to pass a background check! Registration October 1November 27.

GOLDEN LION TAI CHI C’HAUN & QI GONG

Tai Chi - the ancient Chinese martial art form known worldwide for health, relaxation, and longevity benefits. Join us for a one hour class in Yang Tai Chi and Qi Gong; the most widely-practiced style of Tai Chi. This class is taught by the professionals from Golden Lion School. www.carsontaichi.com.

PARENT’S NIGHT OUT

Parents, do you need a night out? Parents Night Out is a way for you to enjoy a night out without your kids. Our dedicated Capital Kids staff will be providing child care (K5th) for parents who would like a night to themselves. We will be providing pizza, activities, and a movie for kids to enjoy! Hurry and sign up as there are limited spaces available.

MR. CHUCK’S DRIVER’S EDUCATION

This 30-hour Driver’s Education class (NAC 389.568) satisfies the requirement for a Nevada Driver’s License. After completing the 30-hour class, the student will receive a certificate of completion.

CARSON JR VICTORY ROLLERS

Indoor Roller Derby! Girls and boys ages 10-17 will learn the basics of flat-track roller derby in a 6 week off-skates program before joining the rest of the team on the track. New participants are not required to have any skates or gear for the first 6 weeks and skating experience is not required. Once on skates, participants will learn how to skate safely and be taught derby rules and skills. Skaters advance at their own speed to eventually land a spot on the Junior Derby team 2019 new skater programs will begin April 2nd and October 1st. Capital Kids is a before and after school program that takes place every school day during the school year, plus camps held during winter, Thanksgiving and spring breaks. The Before School Program meets at the Carson City Community Center where school busses will take children to the appropriate school. The After School Program takes place at the various elementary schools in Carson City.

PYROGRAPHY I: INTRO TO TOOLS & TECHNIQUE

Hosted by Sierra Arts Academy. Instructor: Tia Flores

In this introductory pyrography workshop, participants will be introduced to the wonderful art of wood burning. We will discuss the various types of wood burning tools, pen nibs, and basic wood burning techniques. Participants will have time to practice and apply the different burning techniques to create a simple composition. All materials will be supplied by the instructor. There is an additional $10 materials fee due at the beginning of the workshop. Other materials may be purchased from the instructor.

PYROGRAPHY II: FUR & FEATHERS

In the Pyrography II: Fur & Feather workshop, participants will learn how to transfer drawings and designs onto a 8" x 10" wood panel. Participants will learn different wood burning techniques when applying fur and feather textures to an image. We will also discuss the importance of line quality, value contrast, and shading techniques to create the illusion of depth in a wood burned composition. All materials will be supplied by the instructor. There is a $15 materials fee due at the beginning of the workshop. Other materials may be purchased from the instructor. Prerequisite - Intro to Pyrography: Tools & Techniques is recommended but not required.

BOLOS & CUFFS SILVERSMITH WORKSHOP

Unleash your creativity and learn the art of jewelry making at our intensive workshop. Craft your own one-of-a-kind bolo tie, pendant, or cuff bracelet using sterling silver sheet metal, bezel wire, and a captivating gemstone. Learn to create stunning centerpieces for a cuff or bolo tie in our workshop. We will be cutting, shaping, and soldering sterling silver metal. If you are making a bolo tie, you will learn how to attach the piece for the cording. If you are making a cuff, you will learn how to rivet your piece onto a cuff bracelet. You will leave with a finished piece of jewelry that you made yourself. All materials will be supplied by the instructor. There is a $85 materials fee due at the beginning of the workshop. Other materials may be purchased from the instructor.

STACKLABLE SILVER RINGS

There are no rules when it comes to creating the stack that speaks to you. Once you start you just can’t stop! You will learn to make several Sterling Silver rings to either stack together or to give as gifts using natural gemstones and learning how to create fun textures. In this introductory class participants will practice basic soldering techniques with a torch, use a variety of textures and learn how to set a small stone into a premade bezel setting. You will make several rings to either stack together or to be worn alone. Tools will be provided for use in class. All levels are welcome, and no metalworking experience is required. All materials will be supplied by the instructor. There is a $30 materials fee due at the beginning of the workshop. Other materials may be purchased from the instructor.

GOURD SPIRIT POUCH NECKLACE

The Gourd Spirit Pouch is a very popular workshop! Participants will design and create a functional and decorative small gourd pouch necklace. Pyrographic (wood burning) techniques will be used to apply the design onto the gourd surface. Color will be added and participants will use artificial sinew to stitch soft leather to the back of the small gourd to create the pouch. All materials will be supplied by the instructor. There is a $25 materials fee due at the beginning of the workshop. Other materials may be purchased from the instructor.

DOG OBEDIENCE

If you need help in establishing good conduct and curbing bad habits, this is the course for you. Instructor Guy Yeaman’s 50 years of experience will help you teach your dog to obey all the basic obedience commands; heel, sit, stand, stay, and recall. Each dog needs a training collar (choke chain, Halti, gentle leader, etc.). Dogs must be at least 4 months old and current on their shots. Written shot records must be shown at the start of class. The Carson Victory Rollers are a player-owned & operated non-profit league. Our mission is to train and support roller derby athletes, grow the sport locally, and increase access for members and fans alike. PUMPKIN SPICE SUNRISE PADDLE

Experience the calm, glassy waters of Lake Tahoe on a crisp autumn morning. The group will paddle to a beautiful cove for a pumpkin bread and hot drink breakfast. Included in the trip: Transportation, breakfast, kayak equipment, paddle jacket and pants (to keep you warm and dry) and a Carson City Parks and Recreation mug for you to keep. The Carson City Parks and Recreation Department has partnered with Skiing is Believing on offering mountain bike clinics for both youth and adults. GRAVITY GIRLS (Ages 8-18)

A three-week development all-girls mountain bike program meant to help young girls fall in love with the sport of mountain biking.

DOWNHILL DEVILS (Ages 10-18)

An advanced three-week mountain bike program with certified BICP coaches meant to improve and perfect the downhill skills and techniques of youth riders who are already skilled and confident on their mountain bikes.

This is an amazing deal to learn how to ski or snowboard with everything included! Participants will jump on a bus at the Carson City Community Center after school on Fridays where they will enjoy and evening on the slopes with their friends. Included in the cost: Transportation, ski/ snowboard rentals, 1 hr. lesson each day, dinner, free time on the mountain, and a season pass!

Explore our many parks and open space with a Carson City Park Ranger on a free Ranger-Led activity! Go on an adventure under the full moon, learn the history of your favorite areas, walk with the wildlife, become a sworn Junior Park Ranger, and much more! CREATURES OF THE NIGHT

Join a Carson City Park Ranger and Wildlife Oddities and Local Fauna (W.O.L.F) for an immersive adventure into the mysterious world of nocturnal animals. Discover the secrets of the creatures that come alive when the sun goes down and explore their fascinating adaptations for life under the cloak of darkness. W.O.L.F. will be bringing their collection of taxidermy animals to give you a closer look at these local critters!

The program will be held inside Fuji Hall and chairs will be provided. Whether you’re a seasoned naturalist or a part time explorer, “Creatures of the Night” offers something for everyone and is suitable for all ages and families.

Take a ride with a Park Ranger and Hank Monk on his famous stage coach through Lone Mountain Cemetery for a night of spooky historical fun!
