Türkiye ile AB arasýndaki müzakerelerin ne zaman tamamlanabileceðine inanýyorsunuz? Türkiye nin AB süreci 1959'da baþladý. 1959'dan 2004'e kadar, kimi gelmiþ darbe yapmýþ süreci koparmýþ, kimi gelmiþ onlar ortak , biz pazar oluruz demiþ süreci koparmýþ, kimi gelmiþ AB'nin yolu Diyarbakýr'dan geçer demiþ tamamen hedef saptýrmýþ. 45 yýl boyunca bu millet oyalanmýþ. Gerçek þu ki 2004'te AK Parti hükümeti müzakere sürecini baþlattý. 2004'ten bu yana Türkiye'nin AB sürecinde çok ilerleme kaydedildi. Diðerlerinin 45 yýlda yapamadýðýný hükümetimiz iki yýlda yaptý. 11 müzakere faslýný açtýk. Kararlýlýkla ilerliyoruz. Türkiye, müzakereleri eninde sonunda bitirecektir. Bitirdiði gün ise ortada çok farklý bir Türkiye, ayný zamanda çok farklý bir AB olacaktýr. Türkiye nin AB ye üyeliðine çok net karþý çýkan ülkeler var? Bunun nasýl bir etkisi olur? O günkü yöneticiler o günkü toplumla el ele verip üyelik kararlarýný verirler. Bugünden o kararý vermek doðru deðildir. Türkiye de ve Avrupa da bugünden bu kararý vermeye kalkan siyasiler bulunmaktadýr. Ben bu durumu vizyonsuzluk olarak deðerlendiriyorum. Türkiye nin zorlanacaðý fasýllar hangileri? Türkiye, 3 Ekim 2005 tarihinde resmi olarak müzakerelere baþladý, azim ve kararlýlýkla devam ediyor. Burada zor olan Türkiye nin açýp kapayacaðý fasýllar deðil. Zor olan, Türkiye trenini Avrupa Birliði raylarýna oturtmaktý. Bu raylarda giden her tren sonunda müzakerelerini bitirmiþtir ve hedefine ulaþmýþtýr. Türkiye de hedefine ulaþacaktýr. Müzakerelere açýlan fasýl sayýsý 11'e ulaþtý. Yýl sonuna kadar çevre faslýný açmayý hedefliyoruz. AB den beklentimiz; teknik olarak açýlmaya hazýr fasýllarý siyasi nedenlerle engellememesi ve tarama sonu raporu hala yayýnlanmayan 9 faslýn bir an önce sonuçlandýrýlmasý. Türkiye oyunu kurallarýna göre oynamakta kararlý. Maç devam ederken yeni kurallar getirilmemeli. AB ye tam üyelik tarihi konusunda öngörünüz var mý? Bekleme süreci uzayacak mý? Bu konuda tarih verilmesini doðru bulmuyorum. Müzakerelere baþlamamýz 45 yýl aldý. Bundan sonraki süreç bir 45 yýl daha sürmemelidir. Yapacaðýmýz reformlar ve kaydedeceðimiz ilerlemelerle, AB yi de hazýrlayarak bir tarih ortaya çýkacaktýr. Yunanistan Baþbakaný ve Dýþiþleri Bakaný Sayýn Yorgo Papandreu nun üyeliðimiz için 2014 ü telaffuz etmesi bizim için teþvik edicidir.

determination and progress on both the reforms and the negotiation process. When do you think Turkey will successfully complete the negotiations for EU membership? Turkey s EU process started back in 1959. From 1959 to 2004, the process has been paused many times by coups and different governments commenting on how the road to EU membership should pass from Diyarbakýr or that Turkey will become the market for Customs Union, all wreaking havoc on the process. The nation has been stalled for 45 years. The truth is that the AKP started the EU negotiation process in 2004. There has been much progress since then. What others failed to do in 45 years, our government was able to do in 2 years. We have opened 11 new chapters in the negotiations. We are determinedly going forward. When we complete the process, both Turkey and EU will be very different from what they are now. Some countries are strongly against the full membership of Turkey. How does this affect the current situation? The officials will make the decision concerning membership along with their nations when the day comes. It s not right to make that decision today. There are politicians who want to make the decision today, both in Turkey and in the EU. I think it s their shortsightedness. What are the most difficult chapters for Turkey? Turkey has started official negotiations on October 3rd, 2005 and is continuing with determination and motivation. Difficulty does not stem from chapters here. The hardest part was to set the Turkey train on EU rail. Every train that went on these rails has reached the destination and became a full member. Turkey will also achieve this goal. The number of chapters opened has reached 11. We plan to open another difficult chapter, the Environment chapter by the end of the year. Our plea to the EU is that they do not block the opening of other chapters due to political reasons when they are technically feasible, and to finish the evaluation of the 9 chapters whose scanning reports have not been published yet. Turkey is determined to play by the book. New rules should not be set once the game is on. What is the expected date of full membership to the EU? Will it be a long wait? I don t find it right to name a date. It took 45 years for us to start the negotiations, the process following that should not take another 45. In time, Turkey s completion
