Work has started on site at a multi-million pound extra care scheme being built at Boughton by Newark and Sherwood District Council. BSP Consulting is the client engineer for the project, which will comprise 40 purpose-built units, including 30 apartments over two levels and ten selfcontained bungalows. A ground breaking ceremony was held by construction partner nmcn to officially mark the first step in the development, which is due to complete in autumn 2021.

McCarthy & Stone development

Care home project The construction phase has begun for a two-storey extension being added to a care home in Corby, Northamptonshire. BSP Consulting is the civil and structural engineer for the project being undertaken at Shire Lodge Nursing Home for Birchester Care. The scheme, which has been designed by architect Blueprint and is being built by Greenchurch Developments, will create 20 new bedrooms plus communal spaces at the care home on Rockingham Road. Project manager is Edward Cooper Young.

Work is well under way on a McCarthy & Stone retirement living development in Loughborough Road, Quorn, where BSP Consulting was appointed as civil and structural engineer. The Farnham House scheme will feature 27 onebedroom and 21 two-bedroom apartments, with neighbouring Mill Gardens featuring three one-bedroom bungalows and nine two-bedroom bungalows, all decorated in a modern, contemporary design. The scheme is in an exclusive gated community and is one of several McCarthy & Stone schemes that BSP has worked on.

Heritage project under way BSP Consulting is providing civil and structural engineering services for the redevelopment and refurbishment of a Grade II listed building owned by Grantham College. Dating back to 1858, Stonebridge House was originally a private residence and its potted history includes use as a school and police offices, before Grantham College purchased the site in 2012. Currently home to the Department of Creative Media, it is now being redeveloped to reconfigure existing internal space and reclaim a redundant outdoor area to create a modern, functional building to suit current and future educational requirements. Architect for the scheme is rg+p. Work is currently progressing on site, with the project due for completion in time for the start of the 2020 academic year.

Promotions at BSP

Four members of the BSP team have been promoted from January 2020.

Paul Hammersley, who joined BSP 13 years ago, and Steve Hardman, who has been with the company since 2016, become associates of the company, having previously been principal engineers.

Image courtesy of rg+p BSP undertook an initial structural inspection in 2016, before being appointed as the civil and structural engineer on the renovation and single-storey extension.

Craig Noonan, who has worked at BSP for six years, has moved from senior civil engineer to principal engineer. Former civil engineering technician Adam Stickels becomes senior civils technician after joining the company six years ago. Steve and Craig work in BSP’s Nottingham office, while Adam is based in Leicester. Paul works remotely.

The project by developer Gilbert & Hall at Riverside Way will create 42 one and two-bedroom apartments on the site of the former Eagle Press building. These are to be constructed as two separate apartment wings at three and four storeys in height linked by a triple height glazed atrium. Project architect is Rayner Davies.

Final phase of regeneration scheme The fourth and final phase of a regeneration scheme in Cotgrave, Nottinghamshire, is getting under way. BSP Consulting has been part of the team involved in the project throughout the whole development, providing civil and structural engineering services. This final phase involves building a food store and three additional retail units in a single-storey block on a site that previously housed outdated shops and a police station. Earlier work on the town centre

precinct area has included the refurbishment of retail units and the conversion of the flats above into offices to create Cotgrave Business Hub, and the creation of a new Multi Service Centre, occupied by Belvoir Health Group, police, library and council facilities, with the former buildings that housed those services being demolished to make way for a revitalised public realm and additional car parking.

BSP Consulting was part of the team behind two landmark dementia care facilities that have received planning permission. The company undertook the flood risk assessment, drainage strategy and traffic plan for a scheme that will expand Church Farm at Skylarks in West Bridgford, Nottingham. The development will create extensions to both the ground floor and first floor of the premises, as well as the addition

In addition, BSP provided drainage advice, traffic planning support, swept path analysis, and advice on levels for a scheme at Church Farm at Rusticus on the outskirts of Cotgrave, which is for the fifth phase of Rusticus’ development and will include the addition of 30 new bedrooms, three detached two-bed assisted living pods, an onsite café that will be open to the public, plus further parking and landscaping. Key project consultants for both schemes for Church Farm Care were GraceMachin Planning & Property and Leonard Design Architects. The team successfully identified six “very special circumstances” that fully justify why the schemes must go ahead despite being located within a Green Belt.
