Our Honorary Patron, Philip Sutton (RA) is returning with a kaleidoscopic exhibition featuring work inspired by Shakespeare. We have a Bard related line up of film screenings to accompany the exhibition.

This is a unique evening with Philip Sutton introducing the film (Henry V) and talking a little about his exhibition ‘My Shakespeare’. A lot of Philip’s influence for his work on Shakespeare has come from Henry V. (PG) | 1989 | 2h 17m | 7pm DIRECTED BY | Kenneth Branagh STARRING | Kenneth Branagh, Derek Jacobi, Simon Shepherd King Henry V of England is insulted by the King of France. As a result, he leads his army into battle against France. Along the way, the young King must struggle with the sinking morale of his troops and his own inner doubts. The war culminates at the bloody Battle of Agincourt.

Hokusai - British Museum 2pm This fascinating new cinema event, British Museum presents: Hokusai, is a groundbreaking documentary and exclusive private view of the major British Museum exhibition Hokusai: beyond the Great Wave. Filmed in Japan, the US and the UK, the film focuses on Hokusai’s work, life and times in the great, bustling metropolis of Edo, modern Tokyo. Introduced by arts presenter Andrew Graham-Dixon, and featuring artists David Hockney, Grayson Perry and Maggi Hambling, this is the first UK biography of Japan’s greatest artist. Hokusai is an artist who influenced Monet, Van Gogh and other Impressionists, is the father of manga and the only painter with his own emoji.

Edward’s life is followed through flashbacks from a young child, through to the end of his life. He is portrayed as a child prodigy who writes and performs A Midsummer Night’s Dream for a young Elizabeth I. A series of events sees his plays being performed by a frontman, Shakespeare. They reach unparalleled success, but in an unexpected turn Freddie, surrounded by darker influences, shuns Queen in pursuit of his solo career. Having suffered greatly without the collaboration of Queen, Freddie manages to reunite with his bandmates just in time for Live Aid. While bravely facing a recent AIDS diagnosis, Freddie leads the band in one of the greatest performances in the history of rock music.
