Area Magazine & COMMUNITY GUIDE

Prouder Than Ever of Brunswick People expect mayors to be proud of their cities, and I definitely am proud. Our regional profile continues expanding, but without sacrificing our small-town feel. Many of our businesses have defied the economic downturn and continue to grow. Our best known attraction, Mapleside Farms, continues diversifying the region’s family-oriented recreational and arts activities. Our healthcare sector is stronger than ever, and higher education opportunities in town are multiplying. Brunswick is a very dynamic place to live. So why would I be “prouder than ever” of my home town? As always, it is because of the quality of our residents. Tragically, four of our high school’s students died in a car accident earlier this year, and we all felt the loss. But the community outpouring of compassion, generosity, tributes, and the countless acts of remembrance were completely overwhelming. They came from every quarter, and from none more profoundly than from our high school students. The experience left an indelible impression on me. We all want to live somewhere with people who respect our privacy but who reach out to us when the moment calls for it. I have come to appreciate more deeply that Brunswick is such a place. I am surrounded by people who care about being good citizens and good neighbors. And I have never been more proud to be a public servant here. Come visit Brunswick and see for yourself! Mayor Gary F.
