Cer senin în 2017 pentru cea mai mare companie aeriană românească

Anul 2016 a fost un an extrem de important pentru dezvoltarea companiei, atât pe plan intern, cât și pe plan internațional; este și anul în care Blue Air a devenit cea mai mare companie aeriană românească. Rezultatele pe 2016 ne obligă să aspirăm la mai mult pentru pasagerii noștri. În 2016, Blue Air a înregistrat un număr record de 3.590.129 de pasageri, reprezentând o creștere de 165%, în comparatie cu aceeași perioadă din 2014. Avem planuri mari și pentru 2017, an în care compania estimează 4.050.000 de pasageri transportați. Suntem conștienti că o dată ce creștem, nevoile pasagerilor nostri cresc și se înmultesc așa că ne-am diversificat serviciile astfel încât dumneavoastră să beneficiaţi de o flexibilitate sporită. Datorită încrederii pasagerilor și partenerilor noștri, Blue Air a lansat 30 de rute noi în 2016 și a anunțat alte 25 de rute noi pentru 2017. Două baze noi se vor deschide anul acesta la Liverpool și Constanța, Blue Air ajungând astfel la 8 baze operaționale. Expansiunea noastră continuă pentru a ne asigura că răspundem mereu cerințelor pieții. Mai mulți pasageri, mai multe rute înseamnă automat mai multe avioane, așa că tot în 2016, Blue Air a investit considerabil în flotă. Astfel, în prezent operăm un total de 24 de aeronave - o creștere masivă, având în vedere că în urmă cu 2 ani operam cu 11 aeronave. Nu ne oprim aici, acest an flota companiei va crește până la 30 de aeronave. Pentru toate acestea și nu numai, vă mulțumim mai ales vouă, cei care ați ales să zburați la bordul aeronavelor Blue Air. Vă dorim să aveți o călătorie cât mai plăcută și să apelați mereu cu încredere la compania noastră.

Blue Skies in 2017 for the Largest Romanian Airline 2016 was a very important year for the development of our company, in Romania and abroad, Blue Air becoming the largest Romanian airline. These results oblige us to aspire even higher for our passengers. In 2016, Blue Air registered a record number of 3.590.129 passengers, meaning a 165% increase from our results in 2014. We have big plans for 2017 as well, the company estimates a number of 4,050,000 passengers. We are also aware of the fact that as we grow, the needs of our passengers also grow and this has made us diversify our services even more, to make sure you benefit from increased flexibility. Due to the trust of our passengers, Blue Air has launched 30 new routes in 2016 and announced a number

of 25 more for 2017. Two operation bases will open this year in Liverpool and Constanta, Blue Air reaching a number of 8 operational bases. Our expansion continues since we want to make sure we respond to the needs of the market. More passengers, more routes automatically mean more aircraft, and we invested considerably in our fleet in 2016. We operate a number of 24 planes at present - a massive increase taking into account we were only operating 11 planes in 2014. This growth doesn’t stop here, we intend to reach a number of 30 planes in 2017. For all this and more, we thank you, for choosing to fly on board of our Blue Air planes. Inspirație la feminin Inspiration with a feminine touch

Fiecare are un alt drum în viață și pe fiecare ne împlinește altceva. Important este să știm ce vrem, să fim perseverente și să credem în noi. Poveștile altora însă ne pot inspira. Succesele altora ne pot motiva, iar din greșelile altora putem învăța. De aceea, drept cadou de luna martie, vă prezentăm, mai jos, VIAȚA, așa cum e văzută, de șapte femei împlinite (din domenii complet diferite) din România. Ne-au povestit pentru ce se trezesc cu drag în fiecare dimineață, de ce sunt fericite, dar și cum pot jongla cu toate lucrurile care compun viața de zi cu zi.

Each person has a different path in life and different things fulfil us. What is important is to know what we want, to persevere in trying to get what we want and to believe in ourselves. And to do that, sometimes, others can inspire us. Other people’s successes can motivate us, but we can also learn from their mistakes. This is why, as a gift for the month of March, we present you LIFE, as it is seen by 7 fulfilled women (successful in doing very different things) from Romania. They told us why they wake up in a cheerful mood every morning also how they can juggle all the things that make up their everyday life.

Trei lucruri pentru care te dai jos din pat în fiecare zi Pentru gândul că merg la braserie sau la laborator, unde mă întâlnesc cu echipa mea dragă, cu care pun la cale ziua. Ca să savurez prima cafea (la ibric, obligatoriu). Pentru că îmi place la nebunie viața activă, plină de surprize și de oameni minunați pe care o am. Trei lucruri legate de „jobul” tău care îți plac la nebunie Faptul că mă pot exprima liber, că îmi pot transpune gândurile în prăjiturile pe care le fac. Faptul că pot contribui, zi de zi, la educarea și rafinarea gusturilor românilor și la construirea unei cofetării autentice. Faptul că pot face oamenii fericiți. Pentru că, da, fericirea poate sta într-o prăjitură. Momentul magic în care ai știut că asta e chemarea ta Când m-am întors din Franța, după absolvirea Școlii de Cofetărie din M ontbeliard, și am început să fac prăjituri pentru restaurantele familiei mele, iar comenzile curgeau. Atunci mi-am dat seama că românii au nevoie de o altfel de cofetărie, dincolo de „premixuri”, amandine, savarine și clătite cu Finetti. Cea mai mare realizare de până acum Deschiderea Zexe Braserie, acum nouă luni, un loc creat din dorința acută de a arăta că avem o cofetărie minunată, complexă și robustă, dar uitată. Trei lucruri care te relaxează complet Am extrem de puține zile libere (în medie, o zi pe lună), așa că nu este prea greu să găsesc lucruri care mă relaxează. Totuși, serile petrecute acasă cu prietenii, ieșirile cu sora mea și cititul sunt lucruri care mă relaxează complet. Dă un sfat celei care erai acum zece ani Fii tenace, ai răbdare, ai încredere în tine, alege-ți prietenii cu grijă, vezi partea frumoasă din tot și ascultă de cei mai în vârstă ca tine! Este exact ceea ce am făcut. Putem să le avem pe toate ca femei? (carieră, familie, „lifestyle” sănătos, viață socială…) Este foarte greu, dar sunt convinsă că, odată cu experiența, apare un soi de relaxare, care te motivează și care te ajută să faci toate lucrurile importante pentru tine. Cred că femeile au, oricum, o viață mult mai interesantă decât bărbații.

Three things that make you get out of bed every day The thought that I am going to the brasserie or to the laboratory, where I meet my beloved team, with whom I make the plan for the day. Enjoying my first coffee (which must be from a coffee pot). Because I love the life I am living: active, full of surprises and wonderful people. Three things about your job that you love The fact that I can express myself freely, that I can project my thoughts into the cakes that I make. The fact that I am contributing, day in, day out, to the education and refining of the tastes of Romanians and to the construction of an authentic kind of pastry art, one that’s different, long forgotten. The fact that I can make people happy. Because, yes, happiness can be found inside a cake. A beautiful/memorable moment from your career, when you knew that this was exactly what you wanted to do The defining moment when I realised that I am on the right track was when I returned from France -right after graduating from the Pastry School of Montbéliard - and I started making cakes for my family’s restaurants and the orders were just flowing. That was an emotional moment, because I realised that Romanians need this kind of pastry, beyond premixes, amandine cakes, savarin cakes and pancakes with Finetti chocolate spread. Your greatest achievement to date My greatest achievement is the opening of Zexe Braserie, which has emerged from the ardent desire to show that we have a wonderful kind of pastry art, complex and robust, but forgotten. Three things that completely relax you I have very few days off (on average, one day a month), so it’s not very hard to find things that relax me. However, evenings spent at home with friends, going out with my sister and reading are things that completely relax me. What advice would you give to your ten years younger self? Be tenacious, have patience, have confidence in yourself, choose your friends carefully, see the beautiful part of everything and listen to your elders! This is exactly what I have done. Can we have it all, as women? (career, family, healthy lifestyle, social life …) It is very hard, but, I am certain that, with experience, there is a sort of relaxation, which motivates you and helps you do all the things that are important to you. Anyway, I think women live a much more interesting life than men.

Trei lucruri pentru care te dai jos din pat în fiecare zi Pentru a găsi ceva nou care să ducă mai departe schimbarea pe care o constru iesc zi de zi în domeniul sănătății mamei și copilului. Ca să îmi încep ziua cu o cafea bună și cu măcar o jumătate de oră de sport. Dar cel mai rapid mă dau jos din pat noaptea, la apelul unei gravide care e în travaliu. Trei lucruri legate de „jobul” tău care îți plac la nebunie Pot să fiu alături de o famile într-un moment extrem de intens și de frumos. Primesc o mulțime de mesaje despre cât de vindecătoare au fost experiențele femeilor cu care lucrez. Sunt, deja, femei pe care le-am asistat pentru a treia oară. Abia aștept momentul în care copiii pe care i-am moșit se vor întoarce la mine să își nască și ei copiii lor, tot cu mine, sper. Momentul magic în care ai știut că asta e chemarea ta Pentru mine a fost clar în momentul în care mama și-a privit, în extaz, copilul, râzând-plângând la una dintre primele nașteri pe care le-am asistat ca moașă. Cea mai mare realizare de până acum Faptul că am fost alături de mii de femei și cupluri prin cursuri, conferințe, consultații și asistență la naștere. Pe un alt plan, am reușit o colaborare bună cu Ministerul Sănătății prin înființarea unui Grup de lucru privind sănătatea materno - infantilă din România. Trei lucruri care te relaxează complet O baie caldă, lungă. Un masaj acompaniat de muzică bună. Escapadele în natură, cât mai lungi. Dă un sfat celei care erai acum zece ani Nu toate depind de tine. Dar sfatul acesta pot să mi-l dau și acum. Putem să le avem pe toate ca femei? Pentru mine, e încă greu. A fost și mai greu, la unele am renunțat, mai ales când erau copiii mici. În prezent, încerc să le includ pe toate în viața mea fac sport, gătesc (mai rar decât mi-aș dori) și mai fug și în mini-vacanțe. Nu mă pot detașa niciodată complet de munca mea însă, tot timpul mai sunt mesaje, telefoane, urgențe.

But I get out of bed fastest at night, after I get a phone call from a pregnant woman who just went into labour.

Three things about your job that you love I can be with families in an extremely intense and beautiful moment. I get a lot of messages about how healing the experiences of the women I work with have been. There are already three women that I have attended to for the third time. I can hardly wait for the time when the children I have delivered will come back to me in order to give birth to their own children. A beautiful/memorable moment from your career, when you knew that this was exactly what you wanted to do When the mother looked at her child in ecstasy, laughing and crying, then it was clear to me. Your greatest achievement to date The fact that I was alongside thousands of women and couples through courses, conferences, consultations and deliveries. At the same time, I have managed to maintain a good collaboration with the Ministry of Health by creating a Working Group regarding maternal - Infant health in Romania. Three things that completely relax you A long, warm bath. A massage accompanied by good music. Escapades in nature, the longer, the better. What advice would you give to your ten years younger self? Not everything is dependent on you. But I can give myself this advice even now. Can we have it all, as women? It’s still hard for me. It was even harder, I have given up some things, especially when the kids were young. Now I’m trying to include everything into my life, I am exercising, I’m cooking (less often than I’d like) and I sometimes go on mini-vacations. Pentru pisicul Vasile care îmi aduce pe pernă jucăriile lui, prin urmare trebuie să mă execut. Trei lucruri legate de „jobul” tău care îți plac la nebunie Că nu am șef sau program fix. Că reușesc să ajung la oameni și să îi fac fericiți, într-o zi nasoală, printr-o ilustrație optimistă. Că, deși sunt foarte serioasă în ceea ce privește businessul meu, nu trebuie să mă iau în serios în fiecare zi și pot să trăiesc foarte bine din proiecte cu zâne, magie și povești. Momentul magic în care ai știut că asta e chemarea ta Un pas foarte important pentru mine, datorită căruia nu voi mai putea da niciodată înapoi, este deschiderea atelierului meu alb și luminos și plin de tablouri colorate, atelier pe care mi l-am dorit de când m-am apucat de ilustrații și unde mă pot găsi, în fiecare zi, oamenii dragi, curioși să vadă unde se nasc poveștile mele. Este locul care a văzut multe momente fericite și pe care îl iubesc la nebunie. Cea mai mare realizare de până acum Toate experiențele mele, atât personale, cât și profesionale, care m-au construit pe mine, așa cum sunt eu azi. Poate că asta este cea mai mare realizare de până acum - că trăiesc din ce îmi place, cu oameni minunați alături, care mă iubesc și mă apreciază. Trei lucruri care te relaxează complet Gătitul. Timpul petrecut cu soțul meu și cu #pisiculVasile. Plaja aia mică de lângă Positano, unde am învățat să fac pluta. Dă un sfat celei care erai acum zece ani N-o asculta pe Marina, un job într-o agenție nu este singura opțiune după facultate. Putem să le avem pe toate ca femei? Eu cred că o femeie deșteaptă poate avea tot ce vrea ea. Important e ca tot ceea ce își dorește să vină din interiorul ei, nu din gura lumii.

To enjoy everything that waits for me that particular day. For Vasile the cat, who brings his toys to my pillow, so I must obey. Three things about your job that you love I don’t have a boss or a fixed schedule. I reach people and I make them happy in a bad day with an optimistic illustration. Although I am very serious about my business, I don’t have to take myself seriously every single day and I can make a very nice living from projects with fairies, magic and stories.

A beautiful/memorable moment from your career, when you knew that this was exactly what you wanted to do A very important step for me, one that I’ll always cherish and thanks to which I will never back down, is my bright workshop, full of colourful paintings. It is the workshop that I wanted to have since I started making illustrations and where people can find me every day, if they are curious to see where my stories are born. This place has witnessed many happy moments and I love it to bits. Your greatest achievement to date All my experiences, both personal, and professional, have built the person that I am today. Maybe this is my greatest achievement to date – the fact that I’m making a living doing what I like, together with amazing people, who love and appreciate me. Three things that completely relax you Cooking. The time spent with my husband and with #pisiculVasile [#VasiletheCat]. That small beach near Positano, where I learned to float on my back. What advice would you give to your ten years younger self? Don’t listen to Marina, a job in an agency is not the only option after college. Can we have it all, as women? I think that a smart woman can have everything she wants. What’s important is that what she wants should come from inside her, not from what other people say.

Trei lucruri legate de „jobul” tău care îți plac la nebunie

Three things about your job that you love I like being my own boss, free to write as much as, when and what I want. I would never give up this freedom (bohemian, but responsible) for a job that would regiment me, regardless of the money, positions or advantages it would bring me. What I also like is that, sometimes (but not extremely often), I am completely satisfied with something I wrote. I am glad that I have the capacity to notice my own mistakes. I hope I will never end up in a state of blind admiration for myself, ouch…

Îmi place să fiu propria mea șefă, liberă să scriu cât vreau, când vreau și ce vreau. Nu aș da, niciodată, această libertate (boemă, dar responsabilă) pe un job care să mă înregimenteze, indiferent ce bani, funcții sau avantaje mi-ar aduce el. Îmi mai place că, uneori (dar nu extrem de des), sunt, pe deplin, mulțumită de câte ceva din ce scriu. Mă bucur și că am capacitatea de a-mi distinge greșelile. Sper să nu ajung vreodată să mă autoadmir, brrr… Momentul magic în care ai știut că asta e chemarea ta O să-ți vorbesc de o nouă chemare, recentă. Vara trecută am mai terminat o facultate și am devenit psiholog. Acum fac încă niște studii, la capătul cărora voi deveni și psihoterapeut. Îmi place foarte mult perioada asta, de noi descoperiri, îmi încarcă strașnic bateriile. Cea mai mare realizare de până acum Două cărți de umor (n.r. „Femeile vin de pe Venus, bărbații de la băut” și „Bărbații vin de pe Marte, femeile de la coafor”) care au ridicat colțurile a zeci de mii de guri și încă le mai ridică. E plăcut să știi că le-ai provocat altora emoții pozitive. Trei lucruri care te relaxează complet Să mă plimb zeci de kilometri pe zi printr-un oraș european, să citesc, să văd filme. Dă un sfat celei care erai acum zece ani 99,99% dintre chestiile care acum ți se par un capăt de țară, peste câțiva ani, nu vor mai însemna absolut nimic pentru tine. Putem să le avem pe toate ca femei? Dar bărbații pot avea tot? Dar pisicile? Ahhhh…ia uite cum am pus punctul pe i, fără să vreau! Va să zică, nu știu dacă femeile pot avea tot ce vor, dar pisicile sigur pot. Pisicile au cea mai mișto viață. Dacă mi-ai oferi acum posibilitatea să devin o felină mică de apartament, te-aș întreba doar „Unde semnez?”.

A beautiful/memorable moment, when you knew that this was exactly what you wanted to do I’ll tell you about a new calling that I started last summer, when I also became a psychologist. Now I also decided to continue my academic studies, at the end of which I will become a psychotherapist. I like this studious period a lot, a time of new discoveries, it really charges my batteries, so to speak. Your greatest achievement to date If you insist, I could mention two humorous books (editor’s note, Women come from Venus, men come home drunk and Men come from Mars, women come from the hairdresser) who have made tens of thousands of people smile and still do. It’s nice to know you’ve generated positive feelings in others. Three things that completely relax you Strolling for dozens of kilometres every day through a European city, reading, watching movies. What advice would you give to your ten years younger self? 99.99% of the stuff that now seem like the end of the world to you, in a few years won’t mean a thing to you. Can we have it all, as women? Can men have it all? How about cats? Woooow…I just hit the nail on the head there, without even trying! So, I don’t know if women can have all they want, but cats surely can. Cats have the coolest lives. If you’d offer me now the chance to become a small feline that lives in a flat, I’d only ask you “Where do I sign?”.

Trei lucruri pentru care te dai jos din pat în fiecare zi Mă dau jos pentru că spațiul din jurul meu merită să fie văzut, atins și explorat. Mă dau jos pentru oamenii din jurul meu, care îmi dau lecții în fiecare zi și oglindesc părțile mai bune și mai puțin bune din mine. Mă dau jos pentru mine, pentru că am încredere că fiecare zi, cu toate experiențele ei, este menită să mă ajute să mă cunosc mai bine și să evoluez. Trei lucruri legate de „jobul” tău care îți plac la nebunie Că am avut curajul să-mi transform pasiunea într-un job minunat și am încredere că sunt pe drumul cel bun. Că reușesc să inspir oamenii să fie curioși să se cunoască, să se privească în oglinda inimii, să se ierte, să se schimbe, să fie mai buni, să-și permită să se relaxeze. Că sunt uimită, de fiecare dată, de magia „jobului” meu. Momentul magic în care ai știut că asta e chemarea ta Momentul în care am decis să las în spate toată pregătirea de marketing și comunicare și am lansat „blogul” Suntuncopac.com, în pofida părerilor celorlalți. Cea mai mare realizare de până acum Învățătorul meu cel mai înțelept, partea cea mai bună și mai frumoasă din mine, fetița mea. Trei lucruri care te relaxează complet Să fac yoga și să meditez + meditație activă (dans) și creativă (pictură intuitivă). Să petrec timp în natură și în brațele soțului meu. Să împart darurile mele și cu ceilalți. Dă un sfat celei care erai acum zece ani I-aș spune că fiecare experiență este o lecție, că toate dezamăgirile au venit ca să o ajute să evolueze, i-aș spune că este o femeie și un om minunat și că nu mai trebuie să se chinuiască atât de mult să satisfacă așteptările celorlalți, i-aș spune că urmează zece ani grozavi, în care câștigul ei cel mai mare va fi liniștea. Putem să le avem pe toate ca femei? Putem avea oricât ne lăsăm să accesăm din darurile vieții. Cred că, în noi, femeile, zace o forță extraordinară și avem puteri magice: bunătate, speranță, înțelegere, iubire, înțelepciune, iertare! Namaste!

I would tell her that each experience has a purpose and is a lesson, that all disappointments and rejections that she went through have come to pass in order to help her and make her evolve, I would tell her that she is a wonderful person and that she mustn’t struggle so much to meet other’s expectations, I would tell her that 10 amazing years will follow and her greatest gain during that time will be her peace of mind. Trei lucruri pentru care te dai jos din pat în fiecare zi Ca să descopăr lucruri noi și să trăiesc experiențe din care pot învăța cât mai mult. Mă energizează gândul că fiecare zi de lucru contează și că prin ceea ce fac pot avea un impact pozitiv pentru cei din jur. În plus, îmi place să mă gândesc dimineața la cum îmi planific activitățile pentru a-mi atinge obiectivele. Trei lucruri legate de “jobul” tău care îți plac la nebunie Cel mai mult, pentru mine, contează libertatea de a-mi alege proiectele și programul de lucru. Faptul că, în domeniul IT, schimbarea este constantă, asta oferindu-mi oportunitatea să învăț mereu și să îmi dezvolt creativitatea, încercând să găsesc soluții noi la probleme, folosind cele mai inovatoare metode, instrumente și tehnologii. Echipa tânără, profesionistă, ambițioasă și energică. Inovația și folosirea noilor tehnologii de la „job”. De economisit, am economisit de când m-am angajat prima oară, dar nu am fost suficient de preocupată și să „pun banii la treabă”. Am pierdut ani în care aș fi putut acumula randamente bune. Putem să le avem pe toate ca femei? Eu, recunosc, a trebuit să fac sacrificii în anumite zone ca să mă pot concentra și să am succes în altele. Și am fost nevoită să le iau pe rând. Pot spune că am reușit, într-o oarecare măsură, gradual, nu totul în același timp și nu foarte repede. Cred că totul e posibil, dar e nevoie de răbdare și perseverență.

Invest my economies more courageously. I’ve been saving ever since my first job, but I haven’t been keen on “making my money work for me”. As a result, I’ve lost years of potentially good earnings. Can we have it all, as women? I admit, I had to make sacrifices in certain areas to be able to focus and be successful in others. And I had to do one thing at a time. I am able to say that I made it step by step, not everything at once and not very quickly. I believe everything is possible, but it takes patience and perseverance.

Casa Poporului este clădirea pe care românii iubesc s-o urască… sau invers. Însă un lucru este sigur: este cea mai renumită clădire din România și unul dintre cele mai vizitate obiective turistice din țară.

The Palace of the Parliament is the building Romanians love to hate…. or hate to love. One thing is for sure though, it is the most famous building in the country and one of the hotspots for international tourists coming to visit Romania.

Totuși, foarte mulți bucureșteni nu i-au călcat niciodată pragul din diverse motive, printre care și faptul că este un „monument” foarte greu de ignorat al ororilor comunismului (un întreg cartier a fost ras de pe fața pământului pentru a-i face loc) și un moft al lui Ceaușescu care i-a costat enorm pe români. Cu un picior în viitor Tehnologiile care vor marca anul 2017 A Sneak-peak to the Future the Technologies That Will Shape 2017 Sunt nenumărate motivele pentru care am putea spune că 2016 nu a fost un an bun, dar, pe de altă parte, 2016 a fost un an cu multe reușite în domeniul științific. Da, AR, nu VR. Chiar dacă mallurile sunt pline de standuri unde poți încerca noile „device-uri” de realitate virtuală, realitatea augmentată va fi adevăratul star al anului 2017. În 2016, am avut deja un exemplu de realitate augmentată care s-a bucurat de un succes imens: Pokemon Go. Microsoft a anunțat, pe la mijlocul lui 2016, că un update la Windows 10, ce se va realiza în 2017, va permite tuturor „userilor” să folosească platforma Windows Holographic, prin care majoritatea aplicațiilor vor putea fi experimentate în realitate augmentată sau virtuală. În același timp, și cei de la Apple vor cocheta cu realitatea augmentată în 2017, nu cu cea virtuală, așa cum se aștepta toată lumea.

Haine “ inteligente” În 2016, am văzut o ascensiune a ceasurilor inteligente. Ele au pregătit terenul pentru hainele „inteligente”. De exemplu, Heacket este o jachetă care se încălzește singură, ca un reșou, în doar trei secunde, atunci când purtătorul dorește acest lucru. Yes, AR not VR. Although all shopping malls are full of places where you can try out the newest virtual reality devices, we bet augmented reality will be the star of 2017. Pokemon:Go was a perfect example of how augmented reality can reach success in 2016. Microsoft also announced that in 2017 they will finalize an update for Windows 10 that will allow users to use the Windows Holographic platform through which most apps can be experienced in augmented or virtual realities. Apple will also play around with AR in 2017, and not virtual reality as most would have thought.

De asemenea, este foarte posibil ca mașinile autonome să devină legale pe tot teritoriul S.U.A. până la sfârșitul anului. În prima jumătate a lui 2017, Hyperloop One, trenul supersonic gândit de Elon Musk, va trece prin primul său test complet și l-am putea vedea construit în Emiratele Arabe Unite. Astfel, pentru prima dată în istorie, un tren se va deplasa cu o viteză de 1000 de km/oră.

In a not so distant future we will be travelling with cars that will drive themselves. In 2017 we will have some concrete examples of autonomous vehicles on the road. USA has already started creating the legal setting so that by the end of the year all states will allow these vehicles on the road. Elon Musk’s supersonic train, Hyperloop One, will do its first complete test in 2017. We might see it being built in the UAE. This will mean that for the first time in history, a train will commute passengers with a speed of 1000 km/h.

Intelligent wearables

We saw a big surge of intelligent watches in 2016. They set the tone for other intelligent wearables. For example there is something called the Heacket, a jacket that heats up in just three seconds if the person wearing it wants it to. Google also invented an intelligent fabric that can work as a touchpad. With this fabric, users can control different devices just by moving their finger on the sleeve of their jackets. Ideea e destul de simplă: acest tip de imprimantă folosește fascicule de laser în infraroșu pentru a arde puncte minuscule pe suprafața oricărui tip de hârtie. Se numește Inkless și această tehnologie promite să diminueze costurile de imprimare în alb-negru la zero. Poate părea puțin, dar această tehnologie va revoluționa și ieftini întregul proces prin care printăm cărți, ziare, reviste, documente etc.

Inkless printers A student from India who graduated a university from the Netherlands invented a printer that uses no ink ( the news about the printer broke at the end of 2016). The idea is pretty simple: this type of printer uses infrared laser beams to produce minuscule burns on the piece of paper. The printer is called Inkless and this technology promises to reduce the cost of black and white printing to zero. It may seem like something small but this technology can actually revolutionize the entire process through which we print books, newspapers, magazines and documents worldwide.

De la an la an, arhitecții încearcă să fie cât mai inventivi pentru a lăsa în urma lor mega‑clădiri cât mai ingenioase. Pentru că ne dorim ca vacanțele voastre să fie memorabile, v-am făcut o listă cu unele dintre cele mai înalte clădiri ale Europei, de unde puteți admira panoramele orașelor în care se află.

Every year architects experiment with their shapes and try to be as inventive as possible, seeking to author ingenious, immortal mega-buildings. Because we know you like high places, and we want your holidays to be unforgettable, we put together a list of the tallest and most innovative buildings around Europe.

01 - The Shard – Londra Construcția, aflată în Southwark, are o înălțime de 309,6 metri și a fost finalizată în 2012. Turnul piramidal a fost creat de arhitectul italian Renzo Piano și interiorul include apartamente, birouri, restaurante, dar și un hotel de cinci stele. Londra poate fi privită în toată splendoarea ei de la ultimul etaj, denumit The View și unde se ajunge cu unul dintre cele 44 de lifturi. The Shard a costat aproximativ 435 de milioane de lire! Dacă treceți London Bridge, la 15 minute pe jos de The Shard,

puteți să vedeți și interesanta clădire denumită The Walkie Talkie (20 Fenchurch Street), clădire faimoasă și pentru că a topit o mașină (fațada ei concavă a focalizat razele solare pe un Jaguar parcat la o stradă distanță, topindu-l pe alocuri). This building, located in Southwark, is 309.6 meters tall and was completed in 2012, although its top floor, entitled The View, only opened for the public on February 1st 2013. The pyramid-shaped tower was created by Italian designer Renzo Piano, and its interior includes

apartments, offices, restaurants, as well as a five-star hotel. London can be gazed in all its splendor from The View and to get there, visitors can use one of the 44 elevators available. The Shard had a cost of approx. 435 mil. pounds. If you happen to pass by the London Bridge, only a 15 minute walk away from the Shard, you will also see an interesting building called The Walkie Talkie (20 Fenchurch Street) which is famous for melting a car! Its concave façade focused solar beams on a Jaguar parked a block away, partially melting it.

02 - Unicredit Tower – Milano Această construcție elegantă e cea mai înaltă din Italia. Are 231 de metri și a fost proiectată de arhitectul Cesar Pelli. Designul clădirii, premiat în repetate rânduri, e un adevărat spectacol vizual. Destul de aproape de acest turn, se află și unul dintre cele mai frumoase ansambluri de clădiri verzi din lume, minunatul Bosco Verticale (pădure verticală) al lui Stefano Boeri. This building, with its elegant architecture, is the tallest in Italy. It is 231 meters tall and was designed by architect Cesar Pelli. The project, winner of numerous prizes, is a true visual spectacle. Tip: fairly close to this tower (a mere 7 minute walk away) lies one of the most famous examples of eco-friendly architecture in the world, the wonderful Bosco Verticale (literally “vertical wood”), by Stefano Boeri.

03 - Kollhoff-Tower - Berlin Potsdamer Platz a devenit, în ultimii ani, un veritabil cartier de afaceri. Aici veți găsi un ansamblu de 19 clădiri ultramoderne, realizat de o echipă internațională de arhitecți, condusă de faimosul Renzo Piano, dar și binecunoscutul Sony Center, creat de Helmut Jahn. In recent years, Potsdamer Platz turned into a true business district; here you will find an ensemble of 19 state-of-the-art buildings designed by an international team led by the famous Renzo Piano, but also the well-known Sony Center, authored by Helmut Jahn. In a city with such rich history, carrying a strong sense of its past, this district, highlighted by the Kolhoff Tower as well as other buildings designed by Renzo Piano (Debis Tower) and Helmut Jahn, creates a pleasant distraction through its contemporary vibe. Head to the Kolhoff Tower when you get to the area, because it is the perfect place to enjoy a panorama of the famous business district thanks to its Panorama Punkt situated at the building’s 25th floor.

04 - Vasco da Gama Tower - Lisabona Lisabona e un oraș atât de frumos, încât merită vizitat străduță cu străduță. Dacă ajungeți aici, nu trebuie să ratați o vizită la Ocenarium, zonă unde veți vedea și turnul botezat după unul dintre cei mai mari exploratori ai Portugaliei. Are o înălțime de 145 de metri și e cea mai înaltă construcție din Lisabona. Puteți lua o telegondolă până în vârf, de unde priveliștea e amețitoare. Lisbon is a city so beautiful, it deserves to be visited street by street. If you get here, you’re not allowed to miss a visit to the Ocenarium, an area where you will also see the tall tower

named after one of Portugal’s most famous explorers. Its height is 145 meters, making it the tallest building in Lisbon. You can simply hop on a cable car to get to the top, where you will find a platform offering a wonderful view of the city.

05 - Torre Agbar – Barcelona Cu un design care aparține arhitectului francez Jean Nouvel, turnul, deschis oficial în iunie 2005, a devenit un simbol al Barcelonei și unul dintre monumentele arhitecturale de seamă ale orașului. Are o înălțime de 144 de metri și e o minune a arhitecturii „high-tech” din lume. Torre Agbar a fost inclus pe lista obiectivelor turistice ale orașului, așă că e de neratat. Owing its design to the great French architect Jean Nouvel, the tower, officially inaugurated in june 2005 became a symbol of Barcelona and one of the city’s monumental architectural sites. It’s 144 meters high and stands as a high-tech architectural wonder. Torre Agbar is featured on Barcelona’s tourist sights, so it is a must-see for anyone travelling to the capital of Catalunia.

06 - Torre Cepsa – Madrid Clădirea a fost proiectată de celebrul Norman Foster și a fost deschisă, oficial, în 2009. Cu 45 de etaje și o înălțime de 250 de metri, e a doua cea mai înaltă clădire din Spania și cea de-a cincea cea mai înaltă clădire din U.E. În 2016, a fost cumpărată de Amancio Ortega, cel mai bogat om din Europa și fondatorul brandului de îmbrăcăminte Zara,

pentru suma de 490 de milioane de euro. Torre Cepsa, alături de Torre Espacio, Torre de Cristal (cea mai înaltă clădire din Spania) și Torre PwC, fac parte dintr-un ansamblu, numit Cuatro Torres Business Area, format din cele mai înalte clădiri din Spania, ce merită vizitat. This building was designed by the famous Norman Foster and was officially opened in 2009. With 45 stories and a height of 250 meters, it is the second tallest building in Spain and the fifth tallest building in the European Union. In 2016 it was acquired by Amancio Ortega, the richest person in Europe and the founder of clothing brad Zara for the price of 490 million euros. In 1912, at its opening, thousands of people came to see the impressive architecture of the place - a shopping temple on five floors covered by a neo-byzantine glass dome that is 33 meters high and is composed of 10 huge painted windows sustained by flower decorated metal frames. O adevărată bijuterie arhitectonică, aici există 54 de magazine de lux și peste 100 de apartamente private de închiriat din 1850 și până azi. În interior, fațadele în oglindă sunt asemănătoare cu cele ale Muzeului de Artă Uffizi, din Florența. Este unul dintre cele mai vechi centre comerciale din lume și poartă numele primului rege al Regatului Italiei. Galeria leagă două renumite repere ale orașului: Domul și Teatrul de Operă Scala. În interior, veți descoperi și statuile unor importante personalități italiene: Volta, Michelangelo, Galileo, Leonardo etc.

A must see - the place is an architectural jewel. Since 1850, it is home to 54 luxury goods shops and 100 private apartments for rent. On the inside, the glass facades resemble the ones of the Uffizi Art Museum of Florence. You can enjoy its fascinating luxurious interiors while having a coffee at one of the chic cafes inside.

It is one of the oldest shopping centers in the world and holds the name of the first king of the Kingdom of Italy. The gallery actually ties together two of the most important landmarks of the city; the dome and La Scala Opera House. On the inside you will be able to also see statues of some important Italian personalities: Volta, Michelangelo, Galileo, Leonardo etc.

Clădirea istorică a fost construită în 1907, dar a fost avariată după ce un avion s-a prăbușit în ea, în timpul celui de-al Doilea Război Mondial. A fost reconstruită în 1950, motiv pentru care a devenit un obiectiv important al Berlinului de după război. Etajele al șaselea și al șaptelea sunt dedicate restaurantelor și sunt promovate ca „două terenuri de fotbal de mâncare”, aici lucrând peste 110 bucătari și brutari.

Harrods este un loc extravagant cu impozante instalații expuse, dar este și cel mai mare magazin din Europa, spațiile comerciale ale acestuia întinzându-se pe 90.000 de metri pătrați. Ca o curiozitate, aici există un lift în valoare de 39 milioane lire, dar și un candelabru impunător, realizat de artistul american Dale Chihuly. La Harrods, găsiți aproape orice; până în 2014, avea la vânzare chiar și animale (Ronald Reagan și-a cumpărat, de aici, un pui de elefant).

NK a fost fondat în 1902, cu scopul de a fi un important centru comercial și cultural, statut devenit incontestabil astăzi. A fost primul loc din Suedia unde s-au vândut păpuși Barbie și blugi, dar și prima clădire cu lift. Interiorul este superb și a rămas neschimbat din 1915. Unul dintre secretele farmecului acestui loc sunt bomboanele mentolate, preparate în fiecare dimineață, în propria bombonerie, după o rețetă veche de 100 de ani.

This historical building was in 1907 but sustained heavy damage during the Second World War when a plane crashed into it. It was rebuilt in 1950 as a symbol of regeneration after the war and it became an important symbol for the city since then. The sixth and seventh floor are dedicated exclusively to restaurants - the place is promoted as being “ two football pitches of food” and it is said that 110 bakers and chefs work here.

It is the largest retail store in Europe, with shops covering over 90.000 sqm, an extravagant place covered with beautiful installations inside out which houses an elevator valued at 39 million pounds and an impressive chandelier created by the american artist Dale Chihuly. You can find everything you need and want here; until 2014, it even had animals for sale - for example Ronald Reagan bought a baby elephant from here.

NK was founded in 1902 and its mission was, from the start, to become an impor tant center not only for commerce but also for culture, which it did. It was the first place in Sweden where Barbie dolls and jeans were sold and it was the first building with an elevator. The amazing interior has remained unchanged since 1915. One of the secrets of this place are its special mints - prepared each morning in its own candy shop with a recipe that is over 100 years old.

De-a lungul existenței sale, Oradea și-a impus prezența și importanța pe harta României, începând cu imperiul turc când orașul se numea VARAT (fort de avantgardă) păstrând același sens lingvistic și în perioada austro-ungară cînd se numea în germană, Grosswardein sau Nagyvarad în maghiară, amintind de Oradea cea Mare. Un detaliu foarte important este și că Oradea a devenit destinație Blue Air în 2016 deci trebuie doar să vreți și ajungeți acolo rapid, fără să stați o zi întreagă în mașină sau tren. Chiar dacă sunteți la Oradea doar pentru o scurtă vizită, încă din primele ore petrecute în plimbare pe străzile sale, veți remarca atmosfera Art Nouveau – sub forma particulară a Jugendstilului vienez – concentrată cu precădere în zona centrală. De altfel, includerea orașului Oradea în rețeaua Art Nouveau, alături de orașe ca Barcelona, Bruxelles, Nancy, Viena sau Budapesta, îi certifică tezaurul arhitectural de valoare europeană. Începând cu monumentala clădire a primăriei, proiectată de arhitectul maghiar Kalman Rimánoczy, o adevărată expoziție de arhitectură clasică, barocă, eclectică și Art Nouveau se dezvăluie privitorilor. Punctele sale principale le reprezintă: PALATUL VULTURUL NEGRU – stil secession, 1908 - Proaspăt restaurat, palatul este simbolul arhitectural al orașului, unic la scară europeană. Pasajul său - cu trei intrări și interiorul acoperit cu sticlă, inspirat de Galeria Vittorio Emanuele din Milano - adună la un loc cele mai multe baruri, cafenele și puburi din oraș, fiind centrul de distracție al orașului. Its passageway - with three entrances and the interior covered in glass, inspired by the Vittorio Emanuele Gallery in Milan – brings together the largest number of bars, cafes and pubs in the city, as it is the city’s entertainment center.

THE STATE THEATRE – eclectic style, 1900 – hosts the two theatrical institutions in Oradea: the Regina Maria (Queen Mary) Theatre and the Szigligeti Theatre.

BISERICA ORTODOXĂ CU LUNĂ, a cărei turlă arată cu exactitate fazele lunii. CETATEA ORADEA în mod indiscu tabil cel mai mare obiectiv turistic al orașului. Restaurată recent, aceasta oferă vizitatorilor muzee, cafenele și chiar un hotel. Istoria acesteia se întinde peste 900 de ani, fiind în secolul XV Meridian zero al lumii și unul dintre cele mai importante centre umaniste europene. PALATUL PRIMĂRIEI - este proiectat de Kálmán Rimanóczy jr. și are un turn din vârful căruia puteți să urmăriți o impresionantă panoramă a orașului. Arena Berlin Arena Halle, în anii ‘20, funcționa ca un depou de autobuze, unul dintre cele mai mari astfel de depozite ale vremii. Din 2000, Arena Berlin a trecut sub tutela unei asociații artistice, devenind unul dintre cele mai căutate și inedite spații pentru evenimente (de la „show-uri” de modă până la concerte și expoziții). Aici găsiți o fostă barjă, care vara este transformată în piscină (Badeschiff) și plasată fix pe râul Spree, pentru a vă bucura de o priveliște frumoasă în timp ce vă relaxați în apă. Zona de lângă Badeschiff funcționează ca plajă urbană și terasă primitoare, unde se face yoga sau paddle board vara, iar iarna, puteți juca niște curling. Dacă vreți să beți ceva, mergeți la Escobar - un bar la înălțime sau la Freifläche - o frumoasă terasă exterioară. Arena Halle used to be a bus depot in the ‘20s, one of the largest of its kind. As of the year 2000, though, under the tutelage of an arts association, it serves as one of the most sought after and most interesting art centers (it hosts fashion shows, concerts, exhibitions etc). During the summer, Badeschiff - the shipwrecked vessel on the river Spree - becomes a huge swimming pool where you can also admire beautiful sights from. The area close to Badeschiff functions as an urban beach during the summer, while in winter it becomes a curling court. If you want a drink, go to skybar Escobar or to Freiflache – a beautiful open air bar.

Bikini Berlin Construcția din 1957, denumită, inițial, ansamblul Zentrum am Zoo, este o manifestare a revoluției arhitecturale post-război, fiind, la început, un centru în care producătorii de textile au venit să creeze și să vândă haine. Din 2014, clădirea a devenit un mall conceptual, un loc în care designerii vestimentari au magazine stil „pop-up”, în care găsiți restaurante de tot felul, magazine de tip concept store și un cinema. Aici, au loc, mai tot timpul, evenimente și expoziții interesante, deci, este un loc ideal pentru a afla care este „trendul”. Built in 1957 as a manifest of the post-war architectural revolution, the building ensemble was initially called Zentrum am Zoo and it was a centre in which textile designers gathered to create and sell their clothes. As of 2014, the building functions as a concept shopping centre, a place where you can find different pop-up stores by cool designers, restaurants, concept stores of all kinds and even a cinema. The Berlin Jewish Museum is one of the largest museums on Judaic culture and history in Europe, walks its visitors through 2 millenniums of Judaic history. The museum is housed in a very old baroque style building connected with two modern buildings designed in the Deconstructivist style. At first sight, the three buildings appear to be separate, but they are all connected through an underground passage. The permanent exhibitions here and the architecture of the buildings themselves symbolize the Jewish cultural contribution to Berlin’s culture and the necessity to understand and internalize the tragic history of the Holocaust.

Berghain Berghain este unul dintre cele mai cunoscute cluburi din lume. I se mai spune capitala muzicii „techno” și paradisul hedoniștilor și al decadenței. Clubul este faimos pentru strictețea cu care își alege clienții, figura emblematică a acestuia fiind portarul Sven Marquardt, scriitor și fotograf. Sven este atât de dur când face selecția, încât deja au apărut diverse legende urbane cu el drept personaj principal. Există chiar forumuri pe care oamenii discută și oferă sfaturi despre cum poți să treci de poarta păzită de el. Jumătate mit, jumătate adevăr, cert e că, la Berghain, se formează cozi kilometrice de oameni care vor să intre în fosta centrală electrică. Berghain is one of the most famous clubs in the world. Dubbed ‘’the capital city of techno music’’, this place is a hedonist’s paradise. It is also famous for the strictness with which it selects its clientele - Sven Marquardt, its bodyguard (now also a writer and photographer) being its most iconic figure. Sven is so tough when deciding who gets in and who doesn’t that it actually gave birth to a great number of urban legends. There are even forums on which people exchange tips and tricks on how to get inside the place. Not all legends about the place are true, but what cannot be denied is the 1km long queue that people form, waiting to enter this former electric power plant.

Schwules Museum Schwules e genul de loc care demonstrează că Berlinul e cu un pas în față când vine vorba de libertatea curentelor și mentalităților. Este un muzeu dedicat istoriei comunității LGBT, un spațiu cu niște colecții impresionante pe tema homose xualității. Pe lângă expozițiile permanente, aici se prezintă periodic și biografiile unor persoane LGBT celebre. Ideea muzeului a apărut în 1984 când, în cadrul Berlin Museum, trei angajați ai centrului au convins conducerea să cureze o expoziție pe tema homosexualității ce a avut foarte mare succes. Schwules is the type of place that shows why Berlin is one step ahead when it comes to free thinking trends. It is a museum dedicated to the history of the LGBTQ community, a space where you can find an impressive collection on homosexuality. On top of the permanent exhibitions, periodic biographical exhibitions of famous LGBT personalities are also hosted by Schwules. The idea to create such a museum was born in 1984, when three Berlin Museum employees convinced the museum’s leadership to curate an exhibition on the topic, which turned out to be a huge success.

Bebelplatz Bebelplatz cuprinde o piață publică superbă, care găzduiește Opera, Universitatea Humboldt, Catedrala St. Hedwigs (prima catedrală catolică din Prusia după Reforma Protestantă inițiată de Martin Luther), dar și o tragică poveste din trecutul dureros al Germaniei naziste. Acesta este locul în care s-a petrecut marea ardere a cărților scrise de non-germani, acțiune desfășurată de naziști pe 10 mai 1933, la ordinul lui Joseph Goebbels. În piață, puteți găsi, acum, un memorial interesant: o groapă imensă care funcționează ca o bibliotecă albă sub pământ și care ar putea ține 20.000 de cărți, atâtea câte se presupune că au fost arse în acea seară din 1933. Bebelplatz is a public square that hosts some of the most iconic buildings in Berlin: the Opera House, Humboldt University and St Hedwig’s Cathedral (the first roman catholic cathedral built in Prussia after the Protestant Reform of Martin Luther). However, it also holds the memory of a tragic story during the Nazi Period, this being the place where more than 20,000 books belonging to non-German authors were burned on the 10th of May in 1933, on Joseph Goebbels’ order. A huge hole in the ground has been excavated there which stands today as a white underground library for the thousands of books that were said to be burned that night.

Checkpoint Charlie Checkpoint Charlie este un adevărat izvor de informații și documentări legate de viața Berlinului din timpul Războiului Rece. A fost cel mai important punct vamal între cele două părți ale Berlinului. Muzeul cu același nume funcționează ca o „clădire de nu-mă-uita” cu povești și documente privind tentativele de a evada din Berlinul de Est, doar unele dintre ele având final fericit. Cert e că, la Checkpoint Charlie, atât la granița care acum e marcată cu pietre, acolo unde, înainte, era Zidul Berlinului, cât și la muzeu, găsești mărturii ale celor mai ingenioase evadări, dar și documente ale „celei mai sigure granițe de control din lume”. Checkpoint Charlie contains a wide range of documents that portray the life of Berliners during the Cold War. It was one of the most important border control points between the two sides of Berlin and today it holds a museum closeby. The museum currently functions as a “never-forget’’ building with stories and documents about people trying to escape East Berlin (many unsuccessfully). Nevertheless, the museum and the border control point (the former wall is marked today by rocks on the ground) are a place to learn about some of the most creative ways to escape an oppressive regime and about the everyday life around the “safest border control in the world’’. Tunelul vechi Elbtunnel și cartierul Gaengeviertel Nu puteți ajunge în Hamburg fără să vizitați acest tunel aflat sub râul Elba, chiar lângă St. Pauli - un spectacol arhitectural care există încă din 1907, a fost dat în folosință din 1911 și este utilizat și astăzi. Aici, există patru lifturi imense care, în trecut, transportau mașinile peste râu. În prezent, este folosit de pietoni și bicicliști. După această incursiune istorică, puteți merge în cartierul Gängeviertel, un loc populat de oameni plini de creativitate, unde găsiți foarte multe expoziții cu intrare liberă, petreceri, concerte, tururi ale cartierelor sau puteți lua chiar lecții de dans. Cartierul a renăscut în 2009, când în jur de 200 de artiști și activiști au militat pentru aducerea la viață a locului.

vă recomandăm să treceți prin acest cartier carismatic, plin de buticuri „indie”, galerii, cafenele sau restaurante „cool”. Dacă prindeți o sâmbătă în oraș, nu ratați piața ambulantă Flohschanze, unde veți găsi tot felul de lucruri interesante, de la obiecte vestimentare, la decorațiuni și antichități. Pe plan culinar, la Schanzenstraße 95, găsiți unii dintre cei mai buni cartofi la cuptor din oraș, promitem că nu veți regreta un prânz aici.

Hamburgul „de sus” Turnul care zgârie bolta orașului este cel al catedralei din secolul al XVIII-lea, pe care localnicii o alintă „Der Michel”. Este o construcție absolut impresionantă, atât din punct de vedere arhitectural, cât și vizual; locul poate găzdui peste 2500 de oameni. Cel mai bun moment pentru vizitare ar fi la prânz, atunci când au loc concerte sublime la orgă. Nu uitați să vizitați și turnul bisericii, unde puteți admira orașul de la înălțime, în toată splendoarea lui. Fanii locurilor „la înălțime” se pot bucura de panoramă și într-un decor mai relaxat, cum ar fi etajul al XX-lea al Hotelului Empire Riverside din St. Pauli. Nu doar că priveliștea vă va tăia răsuflarea, dar cocktailurile de aici sunt un adevărat răsfăț pentru simțuri.

În loc de concluzie Hamburgul merită cunoscut la pas, căci, cu siguranță, nu vă veți plictisi aici. Veți găsi mereu locuri care merită fotografiate sau vizitate. Nu uitați că o bună modalitate de a încheia un concendiu de vis în Hamburg este o zi petrecută la plajă, chiar dacă sunteți în sezon sau nu. Dacă este soare și cald, puteți profita de vreme pentru a face un picnic, dacă nu, puteți să admirați priveliștea și să vă încărcați bateriile.

The Elbtunnel Old Tunnel and the Gaengeviertel Neighbourhood You cannot go to Hamburg and not visit this tunnel under the Elbe River, right next to St. Pauli - an architectural spectacle, which has existed since 1907, was opened in 1911 and is utilised even today. Here, there are four huge elevators that, in the past, used to carry cars over the river. Nowadays, it is utilised by pedestrians and bikers. Maria Luisa Park is a green paradise in which you will find exotic plants, beautiful fountains, pavilions in which you can discover more about the rich culture of the city and also some small alleys that take you to quiet and idyllic places to enjoy alone with your loved one. Initially, this place was designed as the garden of the San Telmo Palace but since 1893 it functions as a public park, being one of Sevilla’s most important green areas. Mihăiță Papară, românul pe care viața l-a obligat să facă snowboard într-un picior Viața lui Mihăiță Papară a fost schimbată radical de un accident de mașină în urma căruia piciorul stâng i-a fost amputat de deasupra genunchiului. Mihăiță a avut puterea de a transforma această traumă într-o poveste de succes, cu un imens potențial de a-i motiva și pe alții, devenind singurul snowboarder din Echipa Paralimpică de Iarnă a României.

Gruia Dragomir ro Cum te-ai apucat de parasnowboard? Sunt din Gheorgheni, Harghita, un orășel înconjurat de munți, într-una dintre cele mai friguroase zone din România. Ador înălțimile și zăpada, iar libertatea oferită de sporturile de iarnă mă face să mă simt complet. Am început cu schiul în copilărie, împreună cu sora mea, Lăcrămioara, dar a rămas la nivel de sport de agrement. După accident, tot sora mea a fost cea care m-a ajutat să alunec din nou pe zăpadă, de data asta pe placă. A fost o experiență foarte dificilă, pentru că am folosit o proteză simplă, de oraș, iar echilibrul e diferit. În 2012, am testat un mecanism de ge nunchi special conceput pentru sporturi de iarnă. Până să găsim reglajele potrivite, am avut câteva momente de îndoială, pentru că trăirile erau contradictorii, dar am regăsit senzații familiare, puternice, vii. Mi-au trezit o poftă extraordinară de a mă întoarce la sporturile de iarnă. Snowboardul și-a făcut debutul, ca sport paralimpic, în februarie 2014, la Jocurile Olimpice de Iarnă pentru persoane cu handicap din Soci, Rusia. Am văzut transmisiunile de acolo, am privit sportivi cu care schimbasem zeci de mailuri, despre proteze, mecanisme și soluții tehnice, despre sport și dezvoltarea mișcării sportive. Îmi doream să fi fost acolo, alături de ei. Am luat legătura cu doamna Sally Wood-Lamont, președinta Comitetului Paralimpic Național Român. I-am vorbit despre nevoia de a face acest sport. M-a surprins când mi-a mărturisit că, până atunci, nimeni nu-și manifestase intenția de a practica parasnowboard. Am decis să mă implic. Vara anului 2014 a însemnat începutul antrenamentelor fizice, iar în toamnă, am cumpărat de pe internet un mecanism de genunchi. În octombrie, eram în Oradea, pentru ca Adrian Pleș, unul dintre tehnicienii ortopezi de la Theranova (societatea de protezare și ortezare cu care am colaborat constant din 2006), să îmi construiască proteza de sport. În noiembrie, luam startul în Cupa Europeană de Parasnowboard, pe pârtia interioară din Landgraaf, Olanda. Era prima competiție internațională de parasnowboard la care România avea un reprezentant.

Mihaita Papara, the Romanian whose life has forced him to snowboard with only one leg Mihaita Papara’s life was radically changed by a car accident which caused his left leg to be amputated above the knee. However, Mihaita had the strength to turn this trauma into a successful story, with a huge potential to motivate others, by becoming the only snowboarder in the Romanian Winter Paralympic Team. How did you get involved in para-snowboarding? I’m from Gheorgheni, Harghita, a tiny town surrounded by mountains, in one of the coldest areas in Romania. I love heights and snow, and the freedom granted by winter sports makes me feel complete. I started skiing as a child, together with my sister, Lacramioara, but it remained only a recreational sport. After the accident, my sister was the one who helped me slide again on the snow, this time on the board. It was very difficult at first, because I used

a simple prosthesis, for urban areas, and the balance is different. In 2012, I tested a knee mechanism, specially designed for winter sports. Until we found the right adjustments, I had a few moments of doubt, because the feelings were contradictory, but I found those familiar, powerful, vivacious feelings once again. They have awakened within me an extraordinary desire to return to winter sports. Snowboarding made its debut as a Paralympic sport in February of 2014, at the Winter Olympics for disabled people held in Sochi, Russia. I have seen the broadcasts, watched athletes with whom I had exchanged dozens of messages on anything from prostheses to the development of the sport movement. I wished I had been there, with them. I got in touch with Mrs. Sally Wood-Lamont, the President of the Romanian National Paralympic Committee. I talked to her about the need to take up this sport. She told me that, until then, nobody had expressed their intention to practise para-snowboarding. I decided to get involved. February | March 2017

Practicai sporturi extreme și înainte de accident?

Cu o săptămână înainte de accidentul de mașină, efectuasem primul zbor solo cu parapanta. Nu pot descrie bucuria simțită în aer. Mi-am dorit să zbor de când mă știu, iar în Iași, am zburat în tandem și am fost cucerit. Am investit în echipament și luni întregi am ieșit în jurul orașului să facem exerciții specifice. Pur și simplu, am fost, întotdeauna, o persoană activă și încerc să mă mențin astfel. Am, în continuare, nevoie să simt acea libertate, senzația că totul e posibil. După accidentul de mașină din 2005, am revenit la zbor, doar ca pasager. Cât am locuit în Miercurea Ciuc, am zburat cu parapanta în fiecare an, mereu cu același pilot, domnul Miki Barac, unul dintre pionierii zborului cu parapanta din România. Știu că după accident ai înființat un ONG...

Prin sport putem schimba percepția celor din jur în legătură cu situația și condiția noastră. Through Sports, we can change the perception others have over our situation and condition.

În 2005 și 2006, în perioada de convalescență și cea de recuperare după amputație, am căutat, pe internet informații care să mă ajute să înțeleg mai bine prin ce anume treceam, informații despre persoane care au trecut prin experiențe similare, metode de recuperare, orice care să mă poată ajuta. În limba română, nu am găsit decât foarte puține informații. Împreună cu părinții mei am decis să înființăm un ONG (asocpm.ro) și să dăm noi acea mână de ajutor celor aflați în situații asemănătoare. Am avut în vedere și familiile acestora, pentru că prezența unui handicap îi afectează enorm și pe cei din jur. Am publicat și serii de poze cu activitățile mele de recuperare, acti vități considerate neobișnuite pentru o persoană cu handicap: parapantă, călărie, înot în Dunăre, sărituri în apă și cățărare. Reacțiile pozitive au fost numeroase, din țară, dar și din Indonezia, Croația, Polonia - oameni care scriau doar ca să salute, ori să ceară sfaturi pentru ei, prieteni sau membri din familie. Ce ne poți spune despre Echipa Paralimpică de Iarnă a României? Jocurile Paralimpice de Iarnă se organizează din patru în patru ani, începând

cu 1976. România a participat la două ediții - 2010, în Vancouver, Canada și 2014, în Soci, Rusia. În ambele ediții, ne-a reprezentat Laura Văleanu, din Sibiu. Laura a suferit un accident rutier la 16 ani, care a lăsat-o fără piciorul drept, sub genunchi. Era C ampioană Națională de Juniori la schi, Slalom Gigant. A revenit pe zăpadă, s-a antrenat intens și a devenit prima reprezentantă a României în competiții internaționale de schi pentru persoane cu handicap. În 2014, a ocupat locul 5 la Slalom. Exemplul ei m-a motivat enorm. Echipa Paralimpică de Iarnă a României e alcătuită din sportivi legitimați de Comitetul Paralimpic Național Român, practicând trei sporturi: schi, monoschi și snowboard. Înseamnă multă muncă, pregătire fizică și tehnică, participare la competiții. Care sunt planurile de viitor? În primul rând, încurajarea și motivarea unui număr cât mai mare de persoane, cu sau fără handicap, să practice sport. Participarea la cât mai multe competiții internaționale de parasnowboard și, desigur, participarea la J.O. din 2018.

În ianuarie 2016, împreună cu Dan Marcu, antrenorul meu, am organizat, în Sibiu, un eveniment demonstrativ de practicare a sporturilor de iarnă de către persoane cu handicap din România, respectiv de către Echipa Paralimpică de Iarnă a României. Evenimentul a avut și o parte de inițiere în sporturi de iarnă, la care au participat adulți și copii, cu handicap. Împreună cu Echipa FreshMeat, o organizație de pasio nați de sporturi de iarnă, cu lungă experiență de organizare de tabere de inițiere în astfel de sporturi, am căutat să oferim participanților posibilitatea de a încerca activități sportive de iarnă. Căutăm să repetăm astfel de evenimente, să atragem cât mai mulți interesați, tineri cu handicap fizic pasionați de depășirea limitelor prin sport, și să identificăm parteneri cu care să colaborăm.

Care ar fi sfatul tău pentru o persoană cu handicap care ar vrea să se apuce de un sport? Să nu ezite! Să înceapă cu încredere! Activitatea sportivă, la orice nivel, aduce numeroase beneficii. Persoanele care practică sport sunt mai mobile, au o condiție fizică și medicală mai bună, au o stare de spirit pozitivă. Sportul ajută foarte mult și pe plan social, interacțiunea umană și comunicarea sunt mai simple. Vrem, împreună cu antrenorul meu și colegii din Echipa Paralimpică de Iarnă a României, să încurajăm cât mai multă lume să practice sport la orice nivel, nu doar de iarnă și nu doar cu scopul de a obține performanțe. Fiecare ar trebui să încerce cât mai multe activități sportive, pentru a găsi tipul și nivelul potrivit. Persoanele cu handicap trebuie să înțeleagă că, prin sport, au posibilitatea să schimbe percepția celor din jur legată de statutul și condiția celor aflați în situația noastră. Făcând mișcare, obținând rezultate, antrenându-ne cot la cot cu cei fără handicap sau concurând în competiții sportive cu ei, dovedim, prin exemplul propriu, că putem sta față în față, că diferențele ce ne despart sunt mult mai mici în comparație cu asemănările, energia și pasiunile care ne unesc.

The summer of 2014 marked the beginning of physical training, and that autumn I bought online a knee mechanism. In October, I was in Oradea so that Adrian Pleș, one of the orthopaedic technicians from Theranova (the prosthetics and orthotics company with which I have been continuously collaborating), could build me the sport prosthesis. In November, I toed the line in the European Para-snowboarding Cup, on the indoor slope in Landgraaf, the Netherlands. It was the first international para-snowboarding competition in which Romania had a participant.

pictures with my recovery activities, activities that are considered unusual for a person with a disability: paragliding, horseback riding, swimming in the Danube, diving and climbing. There were numerous positive reactions, from inside the country, but also from Indonesia, Croatia, Poland – people who wrote only to say “hi”, or to ask for advice for themselves, their friends or family members.

Were you practising extreme sports before the accident?

The Winter Paralympic Games are held every four years, since 1976. Romania has participated in two editions - 2010, Canada and 2014, Russia. In both editions, Laura Valeanu, from Sibiu, has represented us. Laura lost a leg in an accident when she was 16. She was a Junior National Champion in Skiing, Giant Slalom. She returned on the snow, trained intensely and became the first representative of Romania in international skiing competitions for disabled people. In 2014 she placed 5th in Slalom. Her example was an immense motivation for me. Romania’s Winter Paralympic Team is made up of athletes legitimated by the Romanian National Paralympic Committee, who practise: skiing, monoskiing or snowboarding.

A week before the car accident, I had taken my first solo paragliding flight. I cannot describe the joy I felt in the air. I always wanted to fly and when i flew for the first time in tandem – in Iasi - I was hooked. I invested in equipment and, for months on end, we went outside town to do the typical exercises. I have always been an active person and I try to stay that way. I still need to feel that freedom, that sensation that everything is possible. After the car accident in 2005, I went back to flying, but only as a passenger. While I lived in Miercurea Ciuc, I practised paragliding every year. Always with the same pilot, Mr. Miki Barac, one of the pioneers of paragliding in Romania. I know that, after the accident, you founded an NGO... In 2005 and 2006, during the convalescence and recovery period after the amputation, I went up on the Internet and looked for information that would help me better understand what I was going through, info about others who have gone through similar experiences, methods of recovery, anything that could have helped me. I found very little information in Romanian. Together with my parents, we decided to found an NGO (asocpm.ro) and to lend a hand to the ones that are in similar situations. We’ve also taken their families into account, because having a disability immensely affects the ones around you. We have also published series of

What can you tell us about Romania’s Winter Paralympic Team?

What are your plans for the future? First, encouraging and motivating as many people as possible, with or without a disability, to practise a sport, then participating in as many international para-snowboarding competitions as possible and, of course, participating in the 2018 O.G. In January 2016, together with Dan Marcu, my coach, I have organized in Sibiu event on disabled people in Romania practicing winter sports with the help of Romania’s Winter Paralympic Team. The event was also partly an initiation into winter sports, and both adults and children with disabilities have participated. Together with the Fresh-Meat Team, an organization of winter sports enthusiasts, with a lot of experience in organizing initiation camps for such sports, we have sought to offer the participants the possibility to try winter sport activities. We seek to repeat such events, to attract as many people as possible, young people with physical disabilities with a passion for overcoming their limitations through sports, and to identify partners with whom we might work together. What would your advice be for a disabled person who would want to take up a sport? Don’t hesitate! Start confidently! Sport activities, at any level, bring about numerous benefits. People who practise sport are more mobile, are in a better physical and medical condition, have a more positive attitude. Sports also helps a lot socially, human interaction and communication come easier. I, my coach and colleagues from Romania’s Winter Paralympic Team, wish to encourage as many people as possible to practise sports at any level, not only winter sports and not only for performance. Each person should try as many sport activities as possible, in order to find the right type and level. Disabled people need to understand that, through sport, they have the possibility to change the perception of those around them about the circumstances and condition of the ones that are in our situation. La doar 22 de ani, Felicia este unul dintre cei mai buni fotografi ai României. CV-ul ei este plin de nominalizări și premii la concursuri internaționale de prestigiu. A apărut și în Photo Boite printre cele mai bune 30 de fotografe sub 30 de ani din întreaga lume. Prima expoziție personală a avut-o la Londra, în 2014, și fotografiile din portofoliul ei au ajuns acum pe coperțile cărților multor scriitori celebri. Am stat un pic de vorbă cu Felicia despre fotografie și succes:

Cum ai ajuns la fotografie? Cred că, mai degrabă, fotografia a venit spre mine, ca un fapt firesc ce aștepta să fie descoperit. Cochetam cu diverse pasiuni (poezia, dansul, pictura) încă din copilărie, ceea ce m-a dus la aflarea unei noi arte, a scrierii cu lumină, la vârsta de 13 ani. Spre deosebire de celelalte hobby-uri, am simțit că fotografia va fi ceva mult mai mare, care avea să-mi acapareze următorii ani. La doar 22 de ani, ai un CV pe care mulți fotografi ar fi invidioși. Care sunt ingredientele poveștii tale de succes? Povestea mea ori a fotografiilor pe care le fac, se află abia la început – ea se scrie încet, cu un stilou negrăbit. Cred că succesul vine fără ca eu să îl chem, însă în urma unei căutări continue pe care o întreprind. Nu urmăresc un scop anume, dar nu mă opresc din a încerca – cu atât mai mare surpriza pe care mi-o naște câștigarea unui concurs ori publicarea unui articol cu fotografiile mele. Cum ți-au influențat viața premiile primite? Pentru mine, mai presus de premii se află participarea la concursuri. M-am deprins cu acest obicei încă de la 14 ani, pentru a vedea cursul fotografiei în lumea internațională și cum aș putea să devin mai bună. Premiile sunt importante atunci când îți confirmă un efort, însă dacă acest efort nu se construiește perpetuu, ele nu mai înseamnă atât de mult. Cum au ajuns pozele tale pe coperțile unor autori celebri, precum Paulo Coelho? Cred că a fost vorba de o șansă mare pe care am primit-o – ca atunci când, de

exemplu, de pe platforma BoredPanda, fotografiile mele au ajuns în ziarul german Der Spiegel. Eu colaborez cu o agenție de imagini din Marea Britanie, și, prin intermediul ei, fotografiile mele au ajuns pe coperțile unor cărți scrise de autori precum Paulo Coelho, David Baldacci, Elizabeth George, Laura Griffin, Veronique Olmi etc. La ce lucrezi acum? Care sunt planurile tale de viitor? Momentan, urmez un masterat în Etnologie, antropologie culturală și folclor la Facultatea de Litere din București, iar

în următoarea perioadă aș vrea să mă ocup de fotografie și film documentar, de cercetarea unor realități rurale sau urbane din România, spre a realiza mai departe proiecte și viitoare expoziții și, ulterior, cărți. În același timp, îmi doresc să continui ca fotograf „freelancer” și să spun povești ale oamenilor prin fotografie, în diverse posibile direcții. Având în vedere succesul internațional de care te bucuri, ești tentată să pleci din țară și să urmezi o carieră în afară? Aș vrea să locuiesc în continuare în România, dar cu posibilitatea de a călători și de a colabora cu oameni peste granițe. Îmi doresc să lucrez și să explorez locuri, comunități și fapte aici, pe care să le pot transmite mai departe în mediul internațional. Care este fotografia ta preferată? Fotografiile mele preferate sunt, deseori, cele pe care nu le fac, pe lângă care trec și doar le absorb cu ochii.

Felicia Hodoroabă-Simion - the photographer that put the Danube on the cover of a Paulo Coehlo novel Felicia is only 22 and she is already considered one of the best Romanian photographers. Her CV is full with nominations and awards won at well-known photography contests. She was named one of the best 30 female photographers under 30 by Photo Boite magazine. Her first personal exhibition was in London in 2014 and some of her photographs have become book covers for famous writers. We met up with Felicia and discussed about photography and her success.

How did you discover photography? I actually believe photography discovered me, it seemed like the most natural thing that happened to me. I was interested in poetry, dance and painting as a little girl and i think these were the ones that led me to my encounter with photography (I call it writing with light) when I was 13 years old. I immediately felt that photography will be the hobby that I will be the most passionate about in the years to come. You are only 22 years old and have already a CV that many photographers dream of. What are the ingredients to your success ? My story and the story of my photographs is only beginning - it is written February | March 2017

softly with a pen that does not rush. Success comes without me looking for it, but it is, nevertheless, the result of my endless search to better myself. I don’t look for anything in particular but i never stop trying - and this makes the surprise of me winning an award or having my photos published even greater. How did these awards influence your life ? I think taking part in these contests has changed me more than actually winning them. I started participating in them when I was 14 since I felt they help me see what the world is interested in when it comes to photography, what the trends are at an international level and how i can become better at what i do. Awards are only important because they confirm the effort that you put into something, but if this effort is not constant in your life, these awards don’t mean as much.

How did your photos end up as book covers for famous authors such as Paulo Coelho ? I think it happened by chance - chance is also what I credit for the time when my photos ended up from BoredPanda inside the German newspaper Der Spiegel. I work with a photo agency from the UK and through them i managed to have my photos become covers for authors such as Paulo Coelho, David Baldacci, Elizabeth George, Laura Griffin, Veronique Olmi etc. What are you working on at the moment? What are your future plans? I am currently doing my masters in Ethnology, Cultural Anthropology and Folklore at the University of Bucharest and in the period ahead I would like to dig deeper into the urban and rural realities

of Romania, take photos and work on new projects that will end up in future exhibitions and even books. At the same time I will continue my work as a freelance photographer and continue building up stories about humans through photography. Taking into account the international acclaim you have, are you tempted to leave the country and pursue a career elsewhere ? I would like to still live in Romania while travelling and collaborating with people from abroad. I want to work and travel here in my country, explore communities here which i want to make famous around the world through my photos. Which would be your favourite photo ? Many times my favourite photos are the ones I don’t do, the ones i only pass by and absorb with my eyes.

În zilele reci de iarnă, apreciem mai mult locurile călduroase, bârlogul nostru, din care privim, cu o cană de ceai cald în mână, zăpada de afară. Între timp, în pădurile din România, unde trăiește aproape 40% din întreaga populație de urs de pe tot continentul (în afară de Rusia), urșii dorm la adăpost, în propriul bârlog, cu ceasul biologic pus să îi trezească primăvara. Dar, uneori, sunt treziți din cauza defrișărilor.

On cold winter days, we appreciate warm places more than usual, our den, whence we look at the snow outside, with a warm cup of tea in our hand. Meanwhile, in the forests of Romania, where almost 40% of the entire bear population of the whole continent lives (outside Russia), bears sleep sheltered in their own den, with their biological clock set to wake them up in spring. But sometimes they’re woken up because of deforestation.

Iarna începe somnul pentru urși, când temperaturile scad considerabil, data la care aceștia au acumulat suficient țesut gras, cât să le ajungă pentru următoarele patru-șase luni și și-au săpat bârlogul în pământ sau și l-au făcut în cavități naturale, sub stânci. Sunt multe specii care hibernează, precum pârșul, ariciul sau marmota, dar ursul este aparte. Dacă celelalte animale își reduc până aproape de minimum toate funcțiile vitale, de la temperatură, până la ritmul cardiac, și, pentru a ieși din această stare, au nevoie de ore bune, devenind o pradă ușoară, la urs, somnul este puțin diferit. Pseudohibernarea ursului a apărut tocmai pentru că ursul nu își permite să fie vulnerabil când iernează. Astfel, funcțiile vitale scad foarte puțin, iar el își păstrează capacitatea de a se apăra sau a fugi în orice moment.

For bears, the sleep begins in winter when the temperatures drop significantly and they have accumulated enough fatty tissue, in order to suffice them for the next four-to-six months and have dug up their den into the ground or have made it in natural hollows, under rocks. There are many species that hibernate, like the dormouse, the hedgehog or the marmot, but the bear is special. Whereas the other animals reduce almost to a minimum all their vital functions, from temperature to heart rate, and in order to leave this state they need many hours, thus becoming easy prey, for the bear, sleep is slightly different. The bear’s pseudo-hibernation has emerged precisely because bears cannot to be vulnerable when they are wintering. Thus, vital functions are diminished by a very small degree, and bears retain the ability to defend themselves or to run at any moment.

Și are și de ce, pentru că, anual, zeci de urși sunt deranjați din cauza defrișărilor sau lucrărilor de construcții. Cel mai grav este atunci când e vorba de bârlogul unei ursoaice, pentru că aceasta naște exact în această perioadă de inactivitate, în lunile ianuarie și februarie. Cu toate că dimensiunea puilor, la naștere, e redusă, sub 500 g, ei se dezvoltă repede, acumulând până la 70 g pe zi, grație valorii nutritive ridicate a laptelui matern. Dar un astfel de lapte nu se produce ușor, ci necesită cantități mari de resurse corporale și de energie, în special în lunile când femela nu se poate încă hrăni. Orice deranj în această perioadă înseamnă un consum și mai mare de energie, iar asta poate duce la pierderea sau părăsirea puilor. Nefiind capabili să-și urmeze mama, singura lor șansă, cu condiția să fie găsiți, e plasarea lor într-un centru de reabilitare.

And they’ve got good reason to, because each year dozens of bears are disturbed because of deforestation or construction work. The worst is when it’s a female bear’s den, because they give birth exactly during this period of inactivity, in the months of January or February. Although the cubs are small at birth, weighing less than 500 g, they develop fast and accumulate up to 70 g a day, owing to the high nutritional value of mother’s milk. But such milk is not easily produced; it requires large quantities of body resources and energy, especially during the months when the females cannot yet feed themselves. Any disturbance during this period signifies an even greater consumption of energy, and this may lead to the loss or abandonment of the cubs. As they are not able to follow their mother, their only chance, provided they are found, is to put them in a rehabilitation centre.

spus, un orfelinat pentru puii de urs. Acest loc a luat naștere din pasiunea lui Leonardo Bereczky pentru urși, acum mai bine de zece ani. De atunci, orfelinatul a salvat peste 100 de pui de urs. La orfelinat, se află, în prezent, zece pui de urs, cu vârste cuprinse între șase luni și doi ani. Diferența dintre orfelinat și o rezervație sau un sanctuar constă în faptul că, aici, puii de urs trăiesc așa cum ar fi făcut-o alături de ursoaică, iar apoi sunt reintegrați în sălbăticie. Principiul de bază al orfelinatului e interacțiunea minimă cu omul și monitorizarea continuă din partea unui expert. Puii sunt hrăniți prin plasarea de mâncare în diferite zone, pentru a fi o experiență cât mai apropiată de cea din natură. Pe parcursul anului, meniul lor cuprinde ciuperci, miere, fructe de pădure, insecte, mamifere mici. Unele tipuri de hrană apar ocazional în anumite perioade și foarte abundent în altele. Tot la orfelinat, puii de urs se joacă împreună, în voie, în țarcuri. Mărimea acestor țarcuri pornește de la una mică, în care puii pot socializa unii cu alții, se pot învăța unii cu alții și vor forma un grup al aceleiași generații. Apoi sunt plasați în țarcuri din ce în ce mai mari, în funcție de necesitățile lor ecologice, iar când se fac mari, țarcul este deschis și puii explorează zona din jur, întorcându-se totuși în țarc. Când ajung să se simtă confortabil pe cont propriu, nu mai revin. Primele serii de pui de urs au fost monitorizate după eliberare, pentru a confirma eficiența metodei de reabilitare. S-a dovedit astfel că, odată eliberați, puii de urs nu sunt tentați de așezările umane.

Bears in Europe or, in other words, a bear cub orphanage. This place came into being as a result of Leonardo Bereczky’s passion for bears, more than 10 years ago. Since then, the orphanage has saved over 100 bear cubs. 10 bear cubs are currently at the orphanage, with ages between six months and two years. The difference between an orphanage and a reservation or sanctuary consists in the fact that the bear cubs live here as they would have done with their mother bear, and then they are reintegrated into the wild. The core principle of the orphanage is minimal interaction with humans and continuous monitoring performed by an expert. The cubs are fed by placing food in different areas, so that the experience would be as close to the one they’d have in nature. Throughout the year, their menu comprises mushrooms, honey, forest berries, insects, small mammals. Some types of food appear only sporadically in certain periods and are very abundant in others. At the orphanage, the bear cubs can also play with each other, at their leisure, in enclosures. In terms of size, these enclosures start from a small one, in which cubs can socialise with each other, can get to know each other, and will form a group that belongs of the same generation. Then they are placed in increasingly larger enclosures, depending on their ecological requirements, and when they grow up, the enclosure is opened and the cubs start exploring the surrounding area, although they do return to the enclosure. When they become comfortable with being on their own, they do not return any more. The first series of bear cubs have been monitored after their release, in order to confirm the efficiency of the rehabilitation method. Thus, it has been proven that, once free, the bear cubs are not tempted by human settlements.

Acum un an, aflam de la Cătălin Butnariu, Președintele RGDA, Asociația Dezvoltatorilor de Jocuri Video din România, că țara noastră este un punct important de creare a jocurilor în Europa, datorită prezenței aici, încă de acum 10-15 ani, a mai multor companii mari, care au dus la maturizarea industriei autohtone și la apariția unor dezvoltatori independenți de succes. Am vrut să aflăm mai multe despre această industrie creativă și despre ce înseamnă să creezi un joc video independent, așa că am stat de vorbă cu câțiva dintre membrii RGDA, în speranța că, poate, vă dăm o idee nouă de business născută neapărat din pasiune!

Cum ai învățat să creezi jocuri?

Nick Berbece, Those Awesome Guys: Am crescut jucând tot felul de jocuri și am devenit tot mai interesat de modul în care funcționează. Apoi, am început să experimentez cu dosare și fișiere, să schimb texturi și fișiere de sunet ici și colo, făcând, treptat, modificări mai avansate, până când am ajuns să creez propriile jocuri de la zero, în primele versiuni de Adobe Flash. Cel mai bun mod de a învăța cum să creezi jocuri este să creezi jocuri. Cum arată conceperea unui joc nou (publicat independent)?

Cătălin Butnariu, Amber Studio: Idei noi pentru jocuri pot fi generate în mai multe feluri: prin exerciții de brainstorming, game jam-uri etc. Comparăm acele idei cu produsele noastre reprezentative și apoi, selectăm câteva care trec la etapa de prototip. Dintre prototipuri,

le selectăm pe cele mai distractive și captivante, dar și care au un potențial comercial considerabil. Ce îți trebuie ca să transformi o idee de joc într-un joc care să aibă rezultate bune pe piața internațională?

Dan Dimitrescu, Killhouse Games: Ideile sunt ieftine ca braga, dar bineînțeles că unele sunt mai bune decât altele. Am spune că e nevoie de multă inspirație și experiență pentru a înțelege adevăratele aspecte tehnice ale jocului, dar e vorba și despre multă voință pentru a ajunge la etapa în care ești pregătit să vinzi. Majoritatea proiectelor independente nu ajung niciodată să aibă o dată de lansare, de aceea spuneam că trebuie să lucrezi la un Proiect Viabil Minim, să îți păstrezi concentrarea și să îți menții dezvoltarea inițială la maximum 6 luni. De câți bani ai nevoie ca să investești la început și pe ce îi cheltuiești? Dan Dimitrescu, Killhouse Games: În funcție de alcătuirea inițială a echipei tale

– presupun că o să începi cu programatori și, probabil, va trebui să investești în artă și sunete. Echipele independente pot lucra de acasă și își pot folosi hardware-ul existent, dar s-ar putea să ai nevoie să investești în plus și în licențele și hardware-ul necesar pentru lansarea pe platforme închise (iOS, Steam, Playstation etc.), dar și într-un website. Ați testat ideea jocului la început? Cât de important a fost feedbackul inițial pentru voi?

Cristi Diaconescu, Sand Sailor Studio: Primul nostru test a fost participarea la concursul Square Enix Collective. Primirea votului DA de la mai mult de 70% dintre votanți ne-a dat încrederea să facem următorul pas mare: campania de pe Kickstarter. Și apoi, pas după pas, confirmările că suntem pe drumul cel bun cu proiectul au continuat să se adune. Pentru un dezvoltator, participarea la evenimente este o oportunitate foarte bună de a testa jocul și de a primi feedback pentru a îmbunătăți proiectul.

I found out a year ago, from Catalin Butnariu, the President of RGDA – the Romanian Game Developers Association, that Romania is an important regional hub when it comes to Game development. This is due to the industry giants that set up shop here more than 10 years ago, which has lead the industry to mature and has bred the creation of many indie game developers. We wanted to find out more about this amazing creative industry and what it entails to develop a game from a couple of RGDA members, in the hope that this might inspire you to start up a new business… out of passion!

How did you learn to make games ? [Nick Berbece] I grew up playing games, and I got progressively more interested in how they work. That lead me to tinker with folders and files, changing textures and sound files here and there, gradually making more advanced mods until I ended up making my own games from scratch in early versions of Adobe Flash. The best way to learn how to make games is by making games. How does the conception of a new game (published independently) look like in your company ? (Who gets involved? Are there multiple ideas and you in the end choose to develop one? What are the criteria you use when choosing ?) [Catalin Butnariu] New game ideas can be generated in a number of ways,

through brainstorming exercices, game jams, etc. We validate those ideas against our product pillars and then select a few which go to prototype stage. From the prototypes, we select the ones which are the most fun and engaging, but also have significant commercial potential. What does it take to turn a game idea into a game that actually does well on the international market? [Dan Dimitrescu] Ideas are a dime a dozen, but of course some are better than others. I’d say it takes a lot of inspiration and experience to get actual game mechanics, but there’s also lot of willpower involved to get to the stage where you’re ready to sell. Most indie projects never make it to release date, that’s why we say is to work on a February | March 2017

Minimum Viable Project, stay focused and keep your initial development at maximum 6 months. How much money do you need to invest at first and on what do you spend it on? [Dan Dimitrescu] Depending on your initial team makeup – I assume you will start with programmers and you will probably need to invest in Art and sounds. Later, when the game is ready to be sold in some form you will need a website, which might take some money too. Indie teams can work from home and use their existing hardware, but you may also need some extra investment for licenses and hardware needed for releasing on closed platforms (iOS, Steam, Playstation etc). Did you test the idea to other people before starting? to how many people and who? How important was this feedback for you before it all started?

Dan Dimitrescu, Killhouse Games: Probabil că am avea cheltuieli de exploatare mai mari, dar am avea, de asemenea, și acces la o rețea de foști colegi orientați pe antreprenoriat cu care ne-am putea uni. Pe măsură ce compania crește și rolurile din cadrul acelei companii se diversifică, vor apărea, în cele din urmă, angajați care nu sunt neapărat jucători înrăiți. Cum vă promovați jocul, având în vedere că aveți resurse modeste? Nick Berbece, Those Awesome Guys: Trebuie să fii creativ și să începi să faci postări legate de jocul tău în toate colțișoarele internetului. Forumuri, grupuri pe Facebook, tigsource, imgur, reddit. Nu te costă decât timp. Cum te poți asigura că va ajunge la jucători din întreaga lume? Nick Berbece, Those Awesome Guys: Dacă nu-ți etalezi marfa, nimeni n-o s-o caute, așa că e responsabilitatea ta să pornești mașina la început și să dai sfară-n țară până când se pune în mișcare și se răspândește singură.

[Cristi Diaconescu] Our first test was participating in Square Enix Collective’s contest. Having a YES vote from more than 70% of the voters, gave us the confidence to take the next big step: the Kickstarter campaign. And then, step by step, the confirmation we’re on the right track with the project kept building up. For a developer, attending events is a very good opportunity to test the game and get feedback to improve the project. You are a Romanian indie game dev studio. Would it make a difference if you were based in the UK or the US ? [Dan Dimitrescu] We’d probably have higher operating costs but would also have access to a network of entrepreneuroriented ex-coworkers that we could hook up with. Romanians are very talented but most of them are not looking to venture into indie development :( Are all employees in a game dev company also passionate gamers or is this a myth ? [Catalin Butnariu] Many people like games these days, it’s already mainstream! But to answer your question, it’s usually true for small game dev companies, as those are teams who are very focused on one game that they are developing and believe in – that needs passion. As a company grows and roles within that company diversify, you’ll eventually get employees who are not necessarily hardcore gamers. How do you promote your game while having low resources? [Nick Berbece] You have to get creative and start posting about your game in every nook and cranny of the internet. Forums, facebook groups, tigsource, imgur, reddit. They don’t cost you anything but time. How do you make sure it reaches gamers all over the world? [Nick Berbece] If you don’t put your work out there, nobody will look for it, so it’s your responsibility to kick start the car at the beginning and spread the word until it starts going and spreads on its own.

„Clădirea Universul stă să cadă, cum au deschis oamenii ăia un teatru acolo?” am auzit oameni vorbind într-o zi, astăvară, în timp ce mă plimbam prin parcul Cișmigiu, din București. Mi-a rămas gândul la asta chiar dacă au trecut câteva luni până am aflat alte detalii. Clădirea Universul este emblematică pentru zona în care mă aflam, intersecția bulevardului Elisabeta cu strada Ion Brezoianu și este un simbol al unei lumi industriale de mult apuse. Totodată, spațiul acesta, alături de multe alte construcții din București care stau să cadă, sunt un vis în materie de reabilitare pentru antreprenorii „hip”, inspirați de orașe precum Berlin. Și iată că povestea începe cu succes. O parte a „Universului” a fost reabilitată și au apărut primele afaceri. Cea mai vizibilă dintre ele, Apollo111, este un spațiu de teatru, care se desfășoară într-un cadru experimental pentru piața culturală de la noi, dar după o idee destul de comună în vest. Astfel că, spre deosebire de alte teatre de repertoriu, care au, poate, și zeci de titluri, aici, se va juca un singur spectacol timp de câteva luni, după care se va lucra la o altă producție. Totodată, există și un spațiu generos de socializare, dar separat de cel în care se joacă, ceea ce iarăși îl face destul de atipic pentru București. Despre toate astea, am discutat cu actorul Bogdan Dumitrache, unul dintre inițiatorii proiectului și directorul artistic al primului an de Apollo111. Ce înseamnă spațiul Apollo111 în peisajul bucureștean? Cum ați ajuns în clădirea Universul? Partea interesantă este că eu aveam numele Apollo111 pregătit de ceva ani pentru proiectul acesta. Am căutat mult

un spațiu potrivit proiectului și, până la urmă, Universul a conlucrat și iată-ne în cea mai bună clădire, atât ca spațiu, cât și ca nume pentru „misunea” noastră. Apollo111 este un nou model cultural și de business în spațiul artistic bucureștean. La noi, spectacolele se joacă doar șase săptămâni, după care piesa își încheie ciclul de viață. Totodată, spațiul nostru oferă o variantă completă de a petrece timpul: cultură + distracție. După spectacol, poți rămâne în barul nostru și atunci ai o seară perfectă într-un singur loc, unde găsești cam tot ce e mai nou și intersant în zona de cultură, mâncare și băutură.

Cum v-a venit ideea Apollo111, ce anume v-a inspirat? Eu sunt un constructor de felul meu, găsesc plăcere în a duce un proiect de la stadiul de gând până la concret. Simțeam nevoia unui business în zona culturală, care să poată fi sustenabil și eficient. Apoi, evident, trebuia să combin ceva ce să fie apropiat de mine, de educația și experiența mea. Și am simțit că, în zona teatrului independent, e loc de ceva diferit. Am studiat modele de business din zona aceasta și am ales ceva complet nou pentru România – off-broadway. Sunt teatre în NY care funcționează după modelul acesta de mai bine de 70 de ani.

Apollo111, an Interview with Bogdan Dumitrache. A Western Business Idea “The Universul building is about to crumble, how did those people manage to open a theatre there?” I heard people talking one day, last summer, while I was strolling through Cișmigiu Park, in Bucharest. I kept thinking at it even though a few months passed until I found out other details. The Universul building is emblematic for that area, the intersection of Bulevardul Elisabeta with Strada Ion Brezoianu and it is a symbol of a long gone industrial world. At the same time, this space, along with many other constructions in Bucharest that are about to crumble, is a dream in terms of renovation for hip contractors, inspired by cities like Berlin.

And it seems the story starts successfully. Part of “Universul” was renovated and the first businesses appeared. The most visible of them all, Apollo111, is a theatre space that is situated in an experimental setting for our cultural market, but based on an idea that is rather common in the west. Thus, unlike other repertory theatres that might have dozens of titles, only one show will be performed here for a few months, and afterwards another production will be chosen. At the same time, there is ample space for socializing, but in a separate area, away from the one where the play is performed, which is again atypical for Bucharest. I have talked about all this with actor Bogdan Dumitrache, one of the initiators of the project and artistic director during Apollo111’s first year. What does the Apollo111 space mean within Bucharest’s landscape? How did you get to the Universul building? The interesting part is that I had already prepared the name Apollo111 February | March 2017

În ultimii ani, eu nu am mai jucat în teatru, ci doar în filme și de aceea m-am gândit să găsesc o sinergie între ceea ce am facut în ultima vreme și ceea ce urmează să fac în viitor. Dincolo de asta, cred că e un exercițiu interesant atât pentru creatori (regizori), cât și pentru public, pe care am ales să-l provoc. Adică să aduc publicul de film românesc la teatru și să pun spectatorul de teatru în fața unor abordări regizorale specifice creatorilor de cinema.

Care sunt planurile pe care le aveți ca să dezvoltați afacerea?

Cum a fost primit primul spectacol al teatrului? „ALI: frica mănâncă sufletul”, regizat de Radu Jude, a fost un exercițiu provocator pentru toți cei implicați. Un subiect sensibil în această perioadă (imigrație, prejudecată, frică), pus în scenă de un regizor de film „pe val” și mult premiat, o echipă de actori excelentă, un spațiu nou, iată ingredientele necesare pentru succes! Pare cumva o nebunie să înființezi un teatru într-o societate care pare din ce în ce mai nedispusă să plătească pentru cultură. E teatrul o posibilă afacere rentabilă? Eu cred că e o prejudecată că oamenii nu vor să plătească pentru cultură. Îți dai seama că, dacă nu credeam că poate fi un business sustenabil, nu ne apucam de el. Și nu cred că-mi convingeam nici partenerii să investească într-o afacere utopică. O să pot răspunde peste un an exact cum se vede treaba din poziția noastră, dar ce pot spune acum este că noi am creat un model de business care are mai multe componente generatoare de venit: avem spații de închiriat, un bar/bistro și o terasă care ne permit să ne diversificăm oferta. Spune-ne mai multe despre spațiul de cafenea/party. Cu ce se deosebește de alte localuri? Apollo111, barul, este deschis de la ora 5 PM la 1 AM, iar vara, terasa va funcționa de la ora 10 AM. Suntem un bar/bistro unde punem accentul pe socializare (de aceea toată lumea stă la aceeași

În ceea ce privește teatrul, mizăm, în continuare, pe producțiile proprii. Avem stagiunea de seară, iar, în paralel, am dezvoltat o stagiune de copii, pe care o prezentăm publicului în week‑end. Mai apoi, ne dorim să dezvoltăm parteneriate cu institute culturale pentru diverse manifestări artistice, să ne trimitem producțiile în festivaluri și să facem o stagiune culturală estivală pentru cei ce rămân în oraș.

How was the theatre’s first show received?

several years ago for this project. I have been looking for a space that would be appropriate for the project for a long time and eventually the Universe smiled upon us and here we are in the best building both in terms of space, and in terms of name for our “mission”. Apollo111 is a new cultural and business model in Bucharest’s artistic space. In our company, shows are performed for only six weeks, and then the play’s life cycle ends. At the same time, our space offers a complete option for spending one’s time: culture + fun. After the show, you can stay in our bar and then you can have a perfect evening in a single place, where you can find almost all that’s new and interesting in terms of culture, food and drinking. How did you come up with Apollo111, what exactly inspired you? I am a constructor, I delight in taking a project from the idea stage to the concrete stage. I felt the need of a business in the cultural area that could also be sustainable and efficient. Then, obviously, I had to combine something that was

close to my own heart, to my education and my experience. And I felt that there is room for something different in the area of independent theatre. I studied the business models in this area and I chose something completely new for Romania – off-Broadway. There are theatres in New York that have been operating based on this model for over 70 years. As an artistic director, you proposed an atypical direction for a theatre’s season. Say a little about it and what you want the spectators to understand, now that they started watching you? In recent years, I have not performed on stage any more, only in films and that is why I thought I should find a synergy between what I have been doing in the last couple of years and what I will be doing in the future. Beyond that, I think it’s an interesting exercise both for the creators (directors), and for the audience, that I chose to challenge. That is, to bring the Romanian film audience to the theatre and to put the theatre spectator in front of directorial approaches which are typical of creators of cinema.

“ALI: fear consumes the soul”, directed by Radu Jude, was a challenging exercise for everyone involved. A sensitive subject during this period (immigration, prejudice, fear) staged by a film director who is on a roll and has received many awards, an excellent team of actors, a new space, here are the ingredients necessary for success! It seems a bit crazy to found a theatre in a society that seems less and less inclined to pay for culture. Is it possible that theatre might be a lucrative business? I think it is a preconception that people don’t want to pay for culture. You do realise that if we did not believe it could be a sustainable business, we wouldn’t have started down that path. And I don’t think I would have been able to convince my partners to invest in a utopian business. I will be able to tell you how it’s going from our position in exactly one year, but what I can say now is that we have created a business model that has multiple components that generate income: we have spaces for rent, a bar/ bistro and a terrace that allow us to diversify the offer. Tell us more about the cafe/ party space. How is it different from other places? The Apollo111 bar is open from 5 PM to 1 AM, and in summer the terrace will be open from 10 AM. We are a bar/bistro that focuses on socialising (which is why everybody sits at the same table). If you come to us, you can have something to drink, to eat, you socialise, we are not a club, nor do we intend to turn into one. We shall throw some thematic parties, but probably at most once a month. What are your plans for growing your business? With regard to the theatre, we continue to rely on our own productions. We have the evening season, and in parallel we have developed a children’s season that we present to the public on weekends. After that, we want to develop partnerships with cultural institutes for various artistic events, to send our productions to festivals and create a summer cultural season for the people who stay in the city. Bogdan Boghițoi, 39 de ani, și Sorin Vidiș, 38 de ani, ambii pasionați de fotografie, s-au cunoscut în 2013. După câteva întâlniri, cei doi au hotărât să pornească la un drum despre care nu știau foarte multe, dar erau foarte curioși să afle - Oina. Oina a devenit, oficial, sportul național al României pe 3 iulie 2014, însă există și se joacă de zeci de ani; în plus, mulți sunt cei care susțin ca baseballul își are rădăcinile în oină. Nu este un sport popular și tinerii știu prea puține despre el, însă, dacă îi ascultăm pe Bogdan și Sorin, vom descoperi că aici e unul dintre locurile unde începe povestea noastră ca români. Începuturile Bogdan și Sorin au un mod fascinant de a vorbi despre oină, însă documentarea fotografică pe care au făcut-o acestui sport transmite lumea acestuia fără niciun cuvânt. „Oina e vie. Ea nu trăiește, ca muzica, prin CD-uri cu un conținut pe care-l poți numi, în cel mai bun caz, o stilizare a folclorului autentic, ori ca portul popular ce îmbracă păpuși de un gust îndo ielnic vândute, pe aeroporturi, ca suveniruri. Oina încă trăiește, dar undeva departe de ochii lumii, în grupuri aproape ezoterice. Și așa, ea încă ne mai caracterizează”, spune Bogdan. Au dat start călătoriei în 2014, iar scopul Oina Project a fost încercarea de a spune în imagini, prin artă, ceva despre un lucru care există și spre care merită să ne îndreptăm privirea.

Oina Project – Romania’s national sport that hides within it our traditions and story Bogdan Boghițoi and Sorin Vidiș, both photography enthusiasts, met in 2013 and set out on a path about which they did not know much, but were very curious to know more - Oina. Oina has officially become Romania’s national sport in 2014, but it has existed for decades. Many people even claim that baseball has its roots in oina. It is not a popular sport and young people know very little about it, but, if we listen to Bogdan and Sorin, we will discover that this is one of the places where our story as Romanians begins. The Beginnings Bogdan and Sorin have a fascinating way of talking about oina, but the photographic documentation that they have made for this sport conveys its world without saying a word. “Oina does not live like music through CDs with a content that you can call at best a stylization of authentic folklore, or like the folk costumes that are worn by dolls of questionable taste sold in airports as souvenirs. Oina lives somewhere far from the prying eyes of the world, in almost esoteric groups. “, says Bogdan. Oina vs. Baseball vs. Glory In the ‘70s and ‘80s, when oina was even supported administratively and institutionally, there were a great many teams. Currently, according to Sorin, “the elimination, over time, of oina from the educational system has led to missing age segments, and after the reduction of the administrative involvement, oina almost vanished in ‘89. Romanians today ended up believing that it’s easier to explain what oina is through its similarities and differences with baseball.” Bogdan is sure of one thing - “what is certain is that oina is as characteristic of Romania as baseball is of the USA”. În prezent, după cum spune Sorin, „eliminarea, în timp, a oinei din sistemul de învățământ a dus la segmente de vârsta lipsă, iar, odată cu reducerea implicarii administrative, oina aproape că a disparut în ‘89. Mai mult decât atât, „oina s-a șters progresiv din conștiința românilor, care au mai fost și bombardați mediatic în ultimii 25 de ani, după rețetele de succes ale societății de consum, într-atât încât am ajuns, acum, să explicăm ce e oina prin asemanările și deosebirile față de baseball.” Bogdan preferă să-i lase pe istoricii sportului să facă afirmații prin care susțin că baseballul se trage din oină, însă este sigur pe un lucru: „ce-i neîndoielnic e că oina e la fel de specifică pentru România cum e baseballul pentru Statele Unite”. Documentarea Au citit tot ceea ce au găsit despre acest sport, iar apoi i-au contactat pe cei de la Federația de Oină - ei au fost foarte receptivi la propunere și i-au ajutat pe Bogdan și Sorin cu informații, contacte și acces la evenimente. De-a lungul anilor, „locurile unde oina se juca în mod natural s-au restrâns la câteva grupuri de sate apropiate - Gherăești, Salcea, Vorona, Hârlău în Moldova și Coruia, Voivodeni, Chiuiești, Turnu Roșu în Transilvania. În spatele acestor locuri, sunt oameni cu suflet mare, care, mânați din pura dragoste pentru sport, i-au susținut respirația, de cele mai multe ori, cu propria lor suflare.” Sorin subliniază ideea că au plecat la drum cu mintea deschisă și dornică să învețe și au descoperit astfel o Românie dezbrăcată de straiele formale. Bogdan spune că „oina e fascinantă, deoarece permite un plonjon în România profundă, unde descoperi că există tradiții, inimi și frumusețe care eludează orice clișeu. Nu am plecat cu vreo așteptare în tolbă. Așteptările sunt periculoase în fotografia documentară, pentru că poți sfârși prin a vedea doar ce aștepți, uneori chiar în pofida realității.” Fotografia pe film Bogdan și Sorin au documentat acest proiect cu ajutorul fotografiei pe film, deoarece și-au dorit „altceva decât lookul clinic și impersonal al fotografiei digitale”. Și-au dorit să redea umanitate și poezie prin fotografia lor, motiv pentru care au ales filmul. De ce alb-negru? „Povestea

noastră nu are nevoie de culori pentru a fi spusă. Culoarea doar ar distrage atenția de la esențial. Laconismul fotografiei alb-negru e o calitate aici”. Ei au făcut peste 2000 de fotografii, ceea ce ar putea părea puțin, însă dacă ne gândim că fotograful pe film are, în aparat, doar 36 de cadre, lucrurile se schimbă. După cum spune Bogdan, „fotografia pe film impune o disciplină foarte austeră. Ea te învață să discerni între ceea ce merită fotografiat și ce nu. Fiecare apăsare pe declanșator e o investiție estetică și, de ce nu, financiară. Poate mai interesant ar fi să spunem că sunt peste 2000 de cadre judecate”. Photobook-ul Oina Project Munca celor doi fotografi a fost transformată în photobook-ul Oina Project, care a ieșit la lumină cu ajutorul unei campanii de prefinanțare a cărții pe Indiegogo. Au fost selectate 80 de fotografii din cele 2000, are 110 pagini și texte atât în engleză, cât și în română. Albumul va fi tipărit în februarie și poate fi comandat de pe oina-project.ro. Oina Project nu conține doar poze, ci încearcă să ofere nu doar o imagine a oinei „ci și a lumii în care fenomenul ăsta e încastrat, a României profunde de care vorbeam, dincolo de clișee”. Bogdan și Sorin nu pot ghici viitorul sportului, mai ales că oamenii joacă pentru

plăcerea sportului și nu prentru bani. „E un lucru rar în lumea de azi, pur, un lucru care trebuie regăsit și în lumea de mâine. Oina este un fenomen valoros și ar trebui să fie de ajuns ca să se susțină sau să fie susținut.” Cu ce rămânem Bogdan și-ar dori ca oamenii să înțeleagă cum arată, de fapt, tradiția. „Cred că oina poate sluji pentru tradiția care e vie, cea care se inserează firesc, și adesea fără să atragă atenția în viața noastră, pe tăcute aș zice. Aș vrea ca oamenii să fie mai atenți la ceea ce e bun în viața comunității, în viața lor, și care uneori vine dintr-un exercițiu de secole. Poate fi orice, de la o tradiție culinară la un cântec de leagăn, pe care îl cântăm copilului pentru că-l face fericit, și care nici măcar nu ne-am pus problema de unde vine. Uneori, tradiția trăiește discret și nu reclamă vocal să fie prețuită. Cred că foarte multe lucruri se pierd din neatenția noastră și e păcat.” Sorin spune că acest proiect este un îndemn la introspecție și extrospecție deopotrivă și, până la urmă, la sinceritate. „Dincolo de povestea oinei e și povestea noastră ca români, cu frustrările și prejudecățile noastre, dar și cu micile pietre prețioase ale unor caractere frumoase pe care unii încă le mai poartă.”

Bogdan says that “oina is fascinating, because it allows you to dive into a deeper Romania, where you can discover that there are traditions, hearts and beauty that eludes any cliché. We have not set out with any expectation. Expectations are dangerous for documentary photography, because you may end up seeing only what you’re expecting to see, sometimes even in spite of reality.”

Film Photography Bogdan and Sorin have documented this project by means of film photography, because they wanted “something other than the clinical and impersonal look of digital photography “. They chose film to better convey humanity and poetry through their photography. Why black and white? “Our story does not need colours in order to be told. Colour would only distract from the core message. The concise nature of black and white photography is an asset here”. They have taken over 2000 photographs, which might seem little, but if we think that a photographer who uses film has only 36 shots in his device, things become different. As Bogdan says, “film photography imposes a very austere discipline. It teaches you to distinguish between what is worth to be in a photograph and what is not. Each press of the shutter-release button is an aesthetic investment and, why not, even a financial one. Perhaps it would be more interesting to say that there are over 2000 calculated shots”. The Oina Project Photo-book Their work was turned into the Oina Project photo-book, which was published with the help of a pre-funding campaign

for the book on Indiegogo. Of the 2000 photographs, 80 were selected; it has 110 pages and text in English and Romanian. The album can be ordered from oinaproject.ro. It doesn’t only contain pictures; it also tries to offer an image ’’of the world in which this phenomenon is embedded, of that deeper Romania that we spoke of”. Bogdan and Sorin cannot guess what the future of this sport will be, especially since people play for the pleasure of the sport and not for money. “It is a rare thing nowadays, something pure, something that must be found once more in the world of tomorrow. Oina is a valuable phenomenon and it should be enough for it to support itself or to be supported. It can be anything, from a culinary tradition to a lullaby that we sing to our children because it makes them happy. Sometimes tradition lives discreetly, and does not demand vocally to be cherished. I think that there are many things that are lost from our carelessness and it’s a shame.” says Bogdan. Sorin says that this project is a push towards both introspection and extrospection and, ultimately, sincerity. “Beyond the story of oina, there is also our story as Romanians, with our own frustrations and preconceptions, but also with the small gems of certain fine characters that some people still possess.” February | March 2017

România Meseriașă, proiectul care susține educația profesională și demonstrează că a fi meseriaș este o valoare Ana Tepșanu ro

Când ești mic și ești întrebat „ce vrei să te faci când vei fi mare”, ai o libertate fantastică de a răspunde orice, fără să te gândești la statut social sau la bani. Oamenii din jur sunt cei care redirecționează percepțiile celor mici către „meserii de viitor”: doctor, avocat sau inginer. Un studiu, realizat la nivel național în 2015, susține: „65% dintre angajatori sunt nemulțumiți de calitatea pregătirii practice din învățământul profesional din România, iar 80% dintre români consideră că meseriile nu sunt respectate în țara noastră.” În acest context s-a dezvoltat proiectul România Meseriașă - programul OMV Petrom de susținere a educației profesionale din România, început în 2015. Din 2016, acesta face parte din proiectul național al Președintelui României, România Educată. Studiul la care făceam referire mai sus este parte din acest program. Motivația Mona Nicolici, Manager Sustenabilitate OMV Petrom, ne-a explicat că nu putem ignora faptul că România are nevoie de meseriași. România Meseriașă „a pornit din dorința noastră de a avea meseriași profesioniști, dar și pasionați de munca lor, respectați de către români – la fel de respectați ca avocații, de exemplu”. Obiectivul, după cum spune Mona, este acela de a „ajuta companiile să beneficieze de forță de muncă bine

pregătită și de a nu mai finanța un sistem de educație neperformant”. Ce înseamnă mai exact OMV Petrom a dezvoltat proiecte prin care s-a arătat că a fi meseriaș este o alegere de viitor și poate aduce valoare țării. Școala Petroliștilor - peste 160 de elevi care urmează două calificări: operator sonde și operator la extracția, transportul, tratarea și distribuția gazelor. Tabăra Meseriașilor din Țara lui Andrei - un program intensiv de dezvoltare personală și profesională pentru viitorii meseriași ai României. S-a creat un mediu în care tinerii au fost încurajați să dezbată liber și deschis orice idee. Cine se poate implica După cum spune Mona Nicolici, pentru a ajunge la o schimbare sistemică, pe termen lung, este nevoie să fie implicați angajatorii, dar și autoritățile, școlile și liceele profesionale, meseriașii înșiși, dar și românii cu spirit de inițiativă, care pot deveni voluntari în Tabăra Meseriașilor din Țara lui Andrei.

„Ca să ajungi să te numești cu adevărat meseriaș, nu e nevoie să fii doar un bun profesionist, ci să te dezvolți atât profesional, cât și personal. Dincolo de acțiunile concrete pe care tinerii le fac în tabără, ne dorim ca ei să plece cu câteva lucruri în minte: inițiativă, curajul de a face lucrurile să se întâmple, convingerea că „se poate” și că fiecare schimbare începe cu fiecare dintre noi”, susține Robert Iancu, trainer la Trend Consult, și cel care, încă din vara lui 2014, își petrece o lună și jumătate pe an în Tabăra Meseriașilor. Oana Brătilă, blogger implicat în cadrul proiectului încă din 2013, confirmă: „Tabăra Meseriașilor este despre a ajuta tinerii să capete încredere în ei și în meseria pe care o practică. Și despre a-i încuraja să ducă mai departe, în comunitatea lor, tot ce au învățat aici”. Experiența în Tabăra Meseriașilor Robert spune că mare parte din lucrurile pe care le facem au fost învătate din experienţă, motiv pentru care, dintr-o poziţie egală cu adolescenţii şi învăţând de ambele părţi, îi ajută pe viitorii meseriaşi să intre într-un fel de poveste “în care fac strategii, comunică, lucrează în echipe, iau decizii şi obţin anumite rezultate. „Pe lângă abilitățile practice cu care copiii pleacă din tabără, ei pleacă de acolo și transformați din punct de vedere emoțional. Învață să aibă mai mult curaj. „M-am simțit motivat”, îmi spunea Alex, cu lacrimi în ochi, la sfârșitul celor trei zile de cursuri cu Robert. Ne-au mai spus că nimeni nu le-a mai vorbit așa cum am făcut-o noi și că nimeni nu le-a mai spus că e ok să greșească”, spune Oana. Tinerii meseriași participă la ateliere practice. Fie că este vorba despre construcția primului foișor inteligent din România (seria electric și construcții, alături de echipa EFdeN), sau organizarea unei cine la Castelul Bran (sub îndrumarea lui Chef Cezar Munteanu și American Hotel Academy), elevii învață cât de departe pot ajunge pe drumul ales, atunci când au încredere în ei. România Meseriașă (Tradesman Romania), the project that supports vocational education and demonstrates that being a tradesman is valuable When you’re little and you’re asked “what do you want to be when you grow up”, you have the fantastic freedom to answer without thinking of social status or money. Later on, it’s the people around who redirect the perceptions of kids to “promising trades”: doctor, lawyer or engineer.

A study made at a national level in 2015 states that: “65% of employers are dissatisfied with the quality of practical training of vocational education in Romania, and 80% of Romanians consider that trades are not respected in our country.” In this context, the project called România Meseriașă was developed – the OMV Petrom program that supports vocational education in Romania, started in 2015. Since 2016, it is part of the national project of the President of Romania, România Educată (Educated Romania). The aforementioned study is part of this program. The Motivation Mona Nicolici, Sustainability Manager for OMV Petrom, explained to us why we cannot ignore the fact that Romania needs tradesmen. România Meseriașă “started from our desire to have tradesmen who are professional, but also passionate about their work, respected by Romanians – just as respected as lawyers are, for example”. The objective, to quote Mona, is to “help companies benefit from skilled workforce and to not fund an underperforming system of education “. What this means, precisely OMV Petrom has developed projects which have shown that being a trades-

man is a promising choice and can bring value to the country. Oil Industry Workers School - over 160 pupils who can get 2 qualifications: well operator and operator for the extraction, transport, treatment and distribution of gas. The Tradesmen’s Camp from Țara lui Andrei (Andrei’s Country) – an intensive program of personal and professional development for Romania’s future tradesmen. An environment has been created where young people have been encouraged to freely and openly discuss any idea. Who can get involved According to Mona Nicolici, in order to achieve long-term systemic change, it is necessary to involve employers, as well as authorities, vocational schools and high schools, the tradesmen themselves, but also Romanians with initiative who can become volunteers in the Tradesmen’s Camp from Țara lui Andrei. “In order to be able to call yourself a tradesman, you don’t just need to be a real professional, but also to attain both professional, and personal development. Beyond the actions that the young will undertake in the camp, we want them to keep a few things in mind when they leave: initiative, the courage to make things happen, a “can do” attitude and that every change starts with every one of us”, claims Robert Iancu, trainer February | March 2017

In the process, they learned how far one can go if they persevere and trust in themselves. Why it is important “In Romania, there is a real hunt for diplomas, and being a tradesman has become a disgrace, as if you end up being a tradesman only if you’re not capable of doing anything else, and we want to change this perception. You are always surrounded by people that have good intentions, people that are willing to change, to build a better country every day. They inspire me and I get my daily energy from them. I have learned in Țara lui Andrei that I still have a

lot to learn. From everybody. It is harder to explain this in writing, but when you get to experience the spirit of this place, it stays with you”, says Robert. The Tradesmen’s Camp is a step towards a better country. Oana reaffirms this: “The camp is an opportunity for growth for everyone who is there - children, teachers, trainers, volunteers, organizers. It is impossible to leave without a big smile on your face and the desire to do even more for this country that, ultimately, we love and we want to see grow.”

Fernando Vallejo După Sfânta Fecioară a ucigașilor plătiți, o a doua carte scrisă de cunoscutul autor columbian Fernando Vallejo este tradusă în limba română. Se vorbește tot despre o întoarcere în Columbia însă în altă vreme și pentru un alt motiv: un columbian stabilit în Mexic revine în țara natală pentru a fi alături de fratele său bolnav ce stă să moară. O altă carte în care viața sa de familie și țara natală sunt disecate de autor cu o luciditate tăioasă și cu umor negru. The precipice: After Our lady of the assassins, a second book written by the well-known Colombian author Fernando Vallejo is translated in Romanian and many other languages. A return to Colombia is presented here as well, but in other times and for another reason: a Colombian living in Mexico returns to his homeland to be with his sick, dying brother. Another book where his family life and his home country are dissected with cutting lucidity and even black humour by the author.

Mihail Șișkin, descendent de seamă al coloșilor literaturii ruse, vine - după Scrisorar și Părul Venerei - cu o puternică poveste despre om și lupta sa constantă cu viața, o luptă complexă și plină de greutăți, ce, inevitabil, duce la moarte. Deși nu este un roman ușor, nici subiectul și nici modul în care lucrurile sunt prezentate nefiind ușor de digerat, Luarea Ismailului este o carte ce merită citită și recitită pentru frumusețea sa literară. “The capture of Izmail”: Mihail Sisikn, prominent descendent of the Russian literature greats offers us – in the wake of Letterbook and Maidenhair – a powerful story about man and his constant struggle with life, one that is complex and filled with hardships, and inevitably leads to death. In spite of the fact that it is not a light novel, neither the subject nor the manner in which it is presented being easily taken in. The capture of Izmail is a novel worth reading and re-reading for its literary beauty.

Wanting to find out more about the life of the best tennis woman of all time, we read Steffi. Public power, private pain, an insight into the personal life of an athlete who has always been a discrete presence outside the court. Two very interesting reads for those interested into the real lives of the rich and famous.

Two musical greats, about which so much has been written, that facts and legend often intertwine, the lives of Eric Clapton and Leonard Cohen are looked upon from new perspectives in two recently published autobiographies at Publica - A Broken Hallelujah: Leonard Cohen’s Secret Chord, by Liel Leibovitz, and Motherless Child: The Definitive Biography of Eric Clapton, by Paul Scott.
