NICKNAME COLORS RANKING RECORD COACH (RECORD / SEASON)

USF Cougars Royal Blue & White No. 1 6-1 (0-0) Chad LaCross (6-1 / 1st)

The Pilots are 40-1 in the Wiekamp Athletic Center since Feb. 9, 2008. However, that one loss came by way of a 87-89 defeat to No. 8 Saint Francis last season. The Pilots were ranked No. 4 at the time. The last time these two teams met, the No. 12 Pilots dominated with a 95-68 win over the No. 10 Cougars in Fort Wayne. The 27-point margin marked the largest margin of victory for Bethel over a top ten opponent in program history. It also marked the largest margin of defeat by the Cougars in 2009-10. NAIA Tournament MVP and First Team All-American DeJovaun Sawyer-Davis leads the Cougars, who return all five starters from last season’s lineup, and is the early favorite for MCC Player of the Year. Sawyer-Davis is averaging a team-high 20.7 points and 8.0 rebounds per contest. He is joined by NAIA Tournament Mr. Hustle Ferdi Morales-Soto and All-Tournament Team members Qadr Owens (19.9 pts, 2.6 stls) and Matt Edmonds. The Cougars are 6-0 away from Fort Wayne this season, including wins over No. 39 Aquinas, No. 25 Siena Heights, and No. 14 Cedarville. Their lone defeat was a 89-92 overtime decision at home to No. 4 Cornerstone. The Pilots are playing their fourth straight home game, winning their three previous games last week, including two in the Bethel Tip-Off Classic. Senior Joe Welch was named Bethel Tip-Off Classic Tournament MVP, while senior Caleb Laidig and freshman Kyle Ritz earned All-Tournament Team honors.
