GA ME PR E V IE W The 60th edition of the Crosstown Showdown gets underway as the Pilots face the IU South Bend Titans in South Bend. The Pilots are looking to avoid their first four game losing streak since they lost four straight games to close the 2005-06 season, having dropped three decisions to ranked teams in their previous three matchups, to No. 1 Saint Francis, No. 15 Grace, and No. 19 Indiana Wesleyan. The Pilots have won 54 of the previous 59 meetings with IU South Bend, including a 74-49 victory in the Pilots’ season opener. In the victory, Jordan Bowerman notched his first career double double with a team-high 16 points, 10 rebounds, and 3 steals. Caleb Laidig added 14 points, 7 rebounds, and 7 assists, while Steve Ward scored 13 points and Joe Welch put in 11 points and grabbed 5 rebounds. Freshman Ryan Benner is coming off his first career collegiate start and contributed 9 points (3-of-5 from the three-point line), 4 rebounds, and 1 steal in his debut in the starting lineup, just short of his season averages of 9.5 points, 4.8 rebounds, and 1.2 steals for the season. Senior Caleb Laidig looks to become the 52nd member of the Pilots’ 1,000 Point Club in his 121st game. He enters the matchup with 998 career points. Having already joined the 500 Rebound Club earlier in the season, Laidig will be the 33rd player in program history to notch 1,000 points and 500 rebounds in his career. He also sits just outside the career record books in assists (340) and steals (172). Only Rico Swanson and Von Gilbert have ever reached 1,000 points, 500 rebounds, 400 assists, and 200 steals in their careers. PROJECT ED
