An URGENT note from Amanda Purdy & Cathy Shaw - Bramcote Animal Rescue We find it necessary to highlight the present situation within the rescue. Almost every telephone call is for unwanted animals especially cats, cats with litters or kittens it breaks our heart to keep saying no, its not what we are here for. Adoptions have slowed to nothing. Donations of monies and food have almost dried up. Even funds pledged by Nationwide Bank Beeston and a legacy from an estate administered by Alsters Kelley Solicitors in Warwickshire from last November has not been forthcoming. We cannot believe it takes this much time to process these funds. As a small rescue funds are at an all time low and donations are a lifeline to help us maintain our standards of care. Past support in various forms has been much appreciated but we feel now is the time to share this situation with you before it esculates into a closure. This is not a scrounge for money. It has been very hard for me to write this. We would much sooner have donations of food for cats, rabbits and guinea pigs in our care. (We are ok for dog food at the moment) cat litter, hay, wood shavings. Monies can also be left on the Bramcote Animal Rescue account at Vet4Pets Beeston. Please if you cannot help by donating to us. Please help us by sharing this post. We need your help now more than ever. Thank you. Bramcote Animal Rescue, 6 Ash Tree Square, Nottingham 0115 922 0286 We also urgently need fosterers especially for older cats & dogs, please call for more information Any greens, lettuce, vegetables you have surplus, please can you donate for animals. Please follow us on facebook.

Spring Cleaning: Getting the Spring back in your home. At this time of year, many of you may be thinking about Spring Cleaning. But is it something you never really get round to? Let's face it, you probably already spend a large proportion of your week taking care of your home, do you really want to add even more work to that never ending list? Some jobs in the home are really just TOO BIG, and in order to get them done properly you need to enlist the help of a professional. That's where Breedon Carpet Care can help. Deep cleaning carpets is not particularly straight forward, even if you own or hire a machine, it is very easy to make costly mistakes. So if your carpet is looking decidedly grubby after the winter and you want to get it clean again, it's a good idea to call Breedon Carpet Care. Here at Breedon Carpet Care, we've been cleaning carpets and soft furnishings for over 15 years. We’re not general cleaners who occasionally clean carpets, or worse, subcontract carpet cleaning to a third party. A large percentage of our work comes from people we've cleaned for before or their friends/family on recommendation. Don't think that because the carpet is being cleaned that you have to empty all of the furniture out. WE move furniture. Items such as the suite and dining table we can move around in the room. You don't need to completely empty your room. All we ask is you move the lighter items such as toys and lamps, small tables etc. We'll move the rest, ... for further information, please contact Chris at Breedon Carpet Care see advert below

“ You Get The Most Thorough Clean Ever Seen Or It’s Free”! That’s right, the most thorough cleaning ever. My carpet and upholstery cleaning is the best and most thorough you could ever have – if you don’t agree I won’t accept your payment.

Along with the purchase of your home and family car, your soft furnishings are one of the largest investments you will make. Professional cleaning of your furnishings on a regular basis will extend their life considerably as well as keeping them hygienic and looking good.

4 Reasons Why You Should Choose My Company To Clean & Protect Your Family’s Health 1. Thorough Cleaning – My method doesn’t leave any residue or cause shrinkage. It cleans down to the base of your carpet removing harmful bacteria leaving your carpet clean and healthy.

2. Honest Pricing – I promise no high-pressure sales gimmicks. The prices I quote you are fully inclusive of cleaning products and labour. A full complete clean AND no hidden extras.

3. Protection of your soft Furnishings - Your valuable soft furnishings will stay cleaner longer, vacuum easier and have improved stain resistance with our carpet and upholstery protectors.

4. Long Standing Reputation – My company enjoys a reputation which is second to none, many of our customers not only come back to us time and again but recommend us to their family and friends.

Local teen Emma Snow writes about various topics and events each month in the Grapevine. “A voice for the young people in our Community”.

Combatting Acne Ugly. Repulsive. Disgusting. These are thoughts that ran through my head every day when I looked in the mirror. This is a topic I have been hesitant to write about, because quite frankly, it is still something I am very self-conscious of. Acne is something that isn’t written about much in the media. Surprisingly, 85% of teenagers will suffer from acne at some point, so, with my own experiences in mind, I will endeavour to reach out to others who are struggling with this problem. So, I was 16, with the odd pimple and a splash of makeup is doing the trick. Around a month after my 16th birthday, these small blemishes started to appear more frequently, becoming very sore, red and swollen. They just wouldn’t go away. Over the counter creams and face washes were futile; what should I do? My Mum insisted for me to make a doctor’s appointment to get something prescribed to help clear my skin. I went home with a liquid solution which I was to apply nightly. I was relieved.

18

Finally some improvement but I was wrong. My skin worsened up until a point where it was painful to apply makeup or even touch my face. And worst of all my self-confidence plummeted. Numerous appointments with my doctor, endless amounts of research and several prescribed creams later, I had to ask my doctor for something stronger. Course after course of ineffective antibiotics were tried before I was prescribed stronger ones. After about 6 months I began to see improvements. Young teens need to know that it will take time for their acne to clear. Whilst on antibiotics, their skin may get much worse before it gets better. I’m no dermatologist, but I want to share what helped me so that if there is someone reading this feeling like I did, they will have some idea of how to combat their facial fiend. Remember that everyone’s skin is different and so your body will react differently to antibiotics. My first piece of advice is to use recommended skin products before going onto a course of antibiotics. So, a good skin care routine such as using a gentle and kind to skin cleanser is usually effective. I found that products which specifically say ‘for acne prone skin’ are too harsh and stripped my skin of too much oil, aggravating and worsening my acne.

Remember, don’t let acne cripple your self-confidence. Yes, it is your face which is on show every day, but no one will judge you for it. 85% of teens suffer from acne. Remember that. Emma Snow

If you choose to wear products to conceal your acne, ensure you remove it properly every night and leave your skin to breathe as often as you can. Most advise that using makeup should be avoided but, with the redness and often severe scarring acne causes, most sufferers will want to cover it up. Which brings me on to my next tip: finding a suitable foundation. If you choose to wear a foundation, try to find one which is oil free and non-comedogentic, meaning it should prevent the makeup from clogging your pores. And finally, aim to drink 8 glasses of water a day. This flushes your body of any toxins, making your skin look brighter and clearer. This alone will not combat acne but contributes to clearer skin. You may find that some scars are left behind, depending on the severity of the acne. I have found 100% organic Aloe Vera gel helps to sooth and reduce this considerably, so don’t despair.

Updates on Stapleford Community Defibrillators by Stapleford Community Group Stapleford has for several years had one Community Defibrillator which is installed outside The Meeting Place on Nottingham Road. This was put up with organisation from the local Police. Stapleford Community Group have worked with the Coop Store on Hickings Lane, Stapleford and recently installed another one. Now Stapleford Councillors John McGrath and Richard MacRae are working with Broxtowe Borough Council to have more installed. 3 to be exact. One will hopefully be installed around Toton Lane near the Petrol Station or The Magpie Pub. One will hopefully be installed on or near Moorbridge Lane. And a third will be installed outside **The West End Pub on Derby Road. **Fundraising is currently taking place for this one. Once all the Community Defibrillators are installed, Stapleford will possibly be the first Town In Broxtowe Borough and possibly Nottinghamshire where every resident of a town is in within minutes of a life saving Community Defibrillator. This is an amazing achievement and something the two Councillors are very proud of being part of. Community Defibrillators can save lives. **Fundraising is currently taking place for this one. Little Grapevine Tips for MEMORY “What’s my password for this website?”

Shape your numbers. Assign a shape to each number: 0 looks like a ball or ring; 1 is a pen; 2 is a swan; 3 looks like handcuffs; 4 is a sailboat; 5, a pregnant woman; 6, a pipe; 7, a boomerang; 8, a snowman; and 9, a tennis racket. To remember your ATM PIN (4298, say), imagine yourself on a sailboat (4), when a swan (2) tries to attack you. You hit it with a tennis racket (9), and it turns into a snowman (8). Try forgetting that image!

Rhyme it.

Think of words that rhyme with the numbers 1 through 9 (knee for 3, wine for 9, etc.). Then create a story using the rhyming words: A nun (1) in heaven (7) banged her knee (3), and it became sore (4).

Junior Doctor Contract - What you need to know The Department of Health is re-writing the employment contracts for all new and junior doctors starting from August. Currently doctors salaries are supplemented for in Ophthalmology and the care I am able to give patients. GRAPEVINE COMPETITION TO WIN TWO TICKETS TO SEE GARY NUMAN AT ROCK CITY NOTTINGHAM ON WED 21ST SEPTEMBER 2016 Following the success of his Sold-Out London residence last October and the Sold Out Manchester & Cork shows that followed. Gary Numan is back with a September 2016 UK Tour which sees him playing a set compromising of material from his albums ‘Replicas’, ‘The Pleasure Principle’ and ‘Teleken’. Following on from the success of his Top 20 album, Splinter (Songs From A Broken Mind), and accompanying two-year Splinter world tour, electronic and industrial music pioneer Gary Numan returns to the UK to celebrate his classic albums Replicas, The Pleasure Principle and Telekon in September 2016. “Having spent most of the last couple of years touring Splinter, with the release of the new album released later this year, 2016 seems an ideal time to revisit the three albums that changed my life,” says Numan. “These three albums are now considered classics and playing tracks from each one in September, will be very special for me. I very rarely look back at past glories but, with these shows, I intend to not only look back, but to celebrate those early days. Without those songs and experiences I wouldn't be here today. Splinter was widely considered to be one of the best, if not the best album I've ever made. With that achievement I've finally learned to be proud of my history, and that's what these shows are all about.” Numan’s influence has been recognized by a diverse array of the world’s greatest artists—from Prince to Lady Gaga, Jack White to Kanye West; Beck to Queens Of The Stone Age, and The Foo Fighters to Nine Inch Nails, many of which have collaborated with Numan and covered or sampled tracks from his vast back catalogue. Due to popular demand, Gary takes the shows on tour across the UK, Website – http://www.garynuman.co.uk/

Dye garden - Gardening volunteer project at Brewhouse Yard, Nottingham There is a tradition of textile production and dyeing at Brewhouse Yard. Innovations in dyeing took place here and made William Elliott one of the richest men in Nottingham – he invented black dye. For this reason, gardening volunteers have been busy working on a dyeing garden down at Brewhouse Yard. Work got underway in late April. At present the dye garden has been planted and there has been a workshop on dying using plants. Nottingham City Council's Volunteer Programme Coordinator, Karen Lushey explains... "The dye garden is in one of the front cottage beds. It was been kept very small to be more easily managed. A freelancer came in and explained how to dye using plants etc. (this is actually a much longer process than you may think). There is another workshop in September at Woodthorpe Grange's Grow Your Own event where the team will pilot a short dye session with visitors. If this works out well we are hoping to do this as a regular offer at Brewhouse Yard. Funding for this work has come from several pots. Some Arts Council England budget for the gardens and some contribution from the Nottingham Castle development budgets. Going forward, there are plans for a garden cart project (sort of like the art carts in the galleries) that is going to be part funded from award money from the Marsh Trust as well as Arts Council England funds." The project is always looking for more people to help in gardens! Please get in touch http://www.nottinghamheritage.org.uk/volunteer/volunteer-case-studies/

NEW PENSION FREEDOMS – EVERYONE SHOULD BE TAKING STEPS NOW New flexibility means anyone over 55 can take all their savings in cash, either all at once or as and when they need it.We need to raise awareness of what is likely to be a growing problem as hundreds of thousands of 55 plus savers gain access to pension lump sums. Also, the Flat Rate State Pension comes into operation in April 2016 and full details will be explained during the courses. We are a partner with the Pensions Service (Department for Work and Pensions) and any new legislation will be explained in full during the courses. We aim to keep the courses very friendly and informal with an emphasis on the psychological approach to retirement and how to occupy the extra hours of leisure people will experience in retirement. Many people sleep-walk into retirement and spend more time planning a fortnight’s holiday than their retirement which could last a good 30 odd years or so. If ever the nation needed a wake-up call, then this is it.During the course, each delegate will be able to have a 1:1 with the speakers and also full updates will be given in relation to all the new regulations, together with calculations on the date men and women will receive their State Pension. A 3 course buffet lunch will be provided, plus tea/coffee/biscuits on arrival and during the morning and afternoon breaks. A full pack of information, leaflets, booklets and magazines/newspapers will be provided to take home and refer to after retirement and hand-outs will be provided by each speaker. The Beeston Office is open for anyone to visit as a Resource Centre and for further help after retirement. Places will need to be booked in advance as a charge will be made to cover lunches and admin. costs. Telephone NDPRC on 0115 922 3824, mobile 07790 851 584 or visit the website to book a place on line www.ndprc.org.uk Next courses take place on 21-23 March, 18-20 April, then monthly thereafter.

Stay Safe - Swimming in the Summer months Getting too cold Outdoor swimming in cold water saps your body heat so your arms and legs get weaker and you could get into trouble if you’re unable to get out. What to do: If you’re not used to swimming in cold water, wear a wetsuit for anything more than a quick dip. Don’t jump into cold water – instead, wade in slowly. Swim close to the shore. Take warm clothes to put on afterwards as, even in summer, you’ll feel colder when you get out. Take extra care in reservoirs, which are deeper and colder than lakes and rivers. Shivering and teeth chattering are the first symptoms of hypothermia. If that happens, get out of the water and warm up.Blue-green algae Blue-green algae can appear on lakes and ponds over summer, forming a powdery green scum. Swimming in it can trigger skin rashes, stomach upsets and sore eyes. What to do: Avoid swimming in lakes that have areas of blue-green algae. Tummy upsets from sewage in the sea Swimming in sewage-contaminated sea water can cause a range of illnesses from gastrointestinal (digestive tract) and respiratory infections to ear, nose and throat complaints. Many beaches in Britain have excellent water quality, others less so. The amount of sewage contamination varies from beach to beach. What to do: To minimise the risks of swimming in polluted water, pick a Blue Flag beach or one recommended by the Marine Conservation Society (MCS). The Good Beach Guide is published by the

48

MCS and indicates which UK beaches have excellent water quality. Always swim sober -Alcohol and drugs impair your judgement, your swimming ability and your ability to regulate body temperature. Check there’s a suitable exit point before you get into any water. In rivers, be particularly careful as currents are often faster than you think. Be careful of sudden changes of depth. It’s easy to trip and find yourself out of your depth. Always check the depth and what’s in the water before you get in - Don’t dive or jump in unless you know it’s deep enough and there are no obstructions or items to fall on and get injured. Swimming in the sea If you’re unused to swimming in the sea, or not too confident, stick to lifeguarded beaches. You must obey the flags. If you get into trouble, signal for help by raising an arm or leg. As a general rule, it’s safer to swim on an incoming tide so you won’t be pulled out to sea.

Bramcote Badgers Compete in National Walking Football Championships A walking football team from Bramcote represented Nottingham Forest in the final of the National Walking Football Championships earlier this week, after winning the East Midlands qualifying event. Bramcote Badgers The Bramcote Silver Badgers, who play regularly at Chilwell Olympia Sports Centre, where set up by Broxtowe Borough Council's Sport Development Team, Broxtowe Sport, in 2012 as part of the first Walking Football sessions. Book Review by Clare Lyons

A Date with Death by Joanne Phillips This is the second book in the Flora Lively Investigates series, and I rather liked it. Flora is a fun character, this time embroiled in a murder while helping out an old friend on a film set. There are a number of different storylines going on in this book, including Flora’s love life, the mysterious owners of the house being used as the film set and the murder itself. The characters are easy to follow and imagine and the story is light and entertaining. It’s nice to read something that has no loose ends and although I imagine there will be another few books, this particular story has all the mysteries solved, which is very satisfying. A good book for a holiday read, but won’t take too long to get through. Phillips has another series (not mysteries) you might enjoy, starting with Can’t Live Without and then The Family Trap.

Children’s Choice Vegetable Glue by Susan Chandler As veggies this as a good find! With a fussy eater in the house too this book is perfect. The beautiful illustrations complement the lovely rhyming story of how important it is for us to eat our vegetables – they provide the glue that sticks our bodies together. If you don’t eat your veg, bits of you might start dropping off… if you’re not convinced this is the perfect book it has the word ‘bottom’ in and so every child is enthralled and hysterical if our experience is anything to go by. Don’t read this as bedtime as it’s not sleep inducing! Other books by Chandler include Who’s in the Zoo and Ingenious Jean , and they are just as good x

Bell tower challenge has nice ring to it by Katja Condy Churches and cathedrals are being challenged to show people the ropes by bringing to life the 400-year old tradition of English-style bell ringing as part of Heritage Open Days this September. The call to the ringing world to open up 500 sites will provide a unique opportunity for ringing bands across England to share the heritage hidden inside their bell towers as well as their passion with millions of visitors who every year venture out to discover the treasures on their doorstep. Bell ringers across the country are already signing up to take part in Challenge 500 including enthusiasts at some of the country’s most significant and interesting locations such as the ringing chamber at St Peter Mancroft in Norwich. This is where the first recorded peal took place in May 1715 and where there are plans to develop a ringing heritage and teaching centre. The tradition of change ringing is a unique form of music that has its roots in England. Instead of 'tunes' the bells ring in orderly sequences that the ringers learn as patterns and then ring from memory. Ringers control the bell with a rope, while the bell turns full circle, mounted on a wheel. Famous people who are reported to have rung bells include comedians Victoria Wood, Jo Brand and Timmy Mallett, gardener Alan Titchmarsh and entertainer and writer Frank Muir. In addition to the Challenge 500 ringers are invited to come together to create a collective bell ringing moment as part of the festival on Thursday 8th September

58

between 1800 – 1900 hours. Loyd Grossman, Patron of Heritage Open Days, said: “Heritage Open Days provides the perfect opportunity to join together to bring to life the four-hundred year old tradition of English-style bell ringing for a huge audience. We are keen to recruit churches and cathedrals to become involved in the festival by registering an event for visitors to discover their bell towers and to take part in hands on demonstrations.”

Chris Mew, President of the Central Council of Church Bell Ringers, said: “We are excited that bell ringers will join this annual celebration of our cultural treasures. There are 5,000 bell towers for change ringing and our challenge is to unlock the doors to 500 of them. What’s more, some visitors may be able to see the bells, often locked away over our heads, discover our ringing forebears’ achievements recorded on peal boards, learn about bell ringing and maybe have a go themselves.”

Bell tower challenge has nice ring to it Clara Govier, Head of Charities at People’s Postcode Lottery, said: “Ringing out the bells over Heritage Open Days is a great way to bring people’s attention to the cultural and historical significance of bell ringing and its preservation. We are excited that millions of visitors will be able to discover the hidden history of bell towers in churches and cathedrals which will be free to access over four days. ”To take part in the challenge and to be counted, bell towers need to register with Heritage Open Days by 1st August 2016. By registering, all participants will be able to access a free marketing support pack and their event will be listed at www.heritageopendays.org.uk from midJuly. For more information, visit this page or email info@heritageopendays.org.uk

Grapevine Tips - Kids Storage Ideas We all know that lego gets everywhere, how about getting the kids to put their lego in boxes all in colour order? You can buy these types of boxes from places like Ikea, I recently bought a second hand storage set very similar for my nephew from Gumtree for ÂŁ15, bargain! Also, have a look around the discount stores for the clear stacking boxes, great idea.

Love this idea for keeping dolls and clothes neat and tidy in a shoe holder, the plastic hooks, you can buy from any DIY store, and they just stick to the wall. Below: Spice rack bookshelves

Help! I'm drowning in clutter and don't know where to begin!" Clutter can clog the smooth workings of any home, imposing heavy costs on the household. Each day, time is lost searching for missing keys, phones or even shoes!. A cluttered desk hides the credit card statement yielding up the bill only after late fees are invoked. Belongings lost to clutter must be replaced, with the original surfacing just as soon as the replacement enters the house. Sounds familiar? Time to declutter!, but when you're peering over piles, mounds of stuff, it's hard to know where to begin and what to do. First things first: schedule time to declutter. Even 15 minutes a day will make a good start. Better, schedule larger blocks of time, from two to four hours once or twice a week, for maximum declutter efficiency. Start by going to one area, one room or one drawer, have 4 carrier bags or bin liners, 1) to save 2) to throw away 3) recycle or give to charity 4) documents - to shred, this is far quicker and easier than you think! You can now start to build good habits to choke off the tendency to create clutter.

For example, establish a “returning home” habit or routine. As you shut the back door, hang the car keys on a hook just above the light switch. Remove jackets and coats two steps inside the house, and hang them on the coat rack. Place handbag or briefcase in the launch pad area next to the coats. Bringing in the mail? Form a new habit: sort mail over the rubbish/recycling bin, dumping the junk, then file what you need quickly in a plastic pocket filing unit on the adjoining wall. Habits, once adopted, kick in as a mindless protective device. To stay clutter-free, work. When you buy a new pot, shirt or magazine, an old pot, shirt or magazine must be discarded, recycled or

donated. One-in, one-out keeps the level of stuff below the clutter point by limiting total numbers.Want to bump up downsizing? Adopt a variation of the rule: One In, Two Out. You’ll reduce surplus stuff, painlessly. Rent, don’t buy, paint sprayers and specialty tools for home repair projects. Swap garden tools or hobby equipment with a neighbour. Borrow books, CDs, and DVD’s from the library. The less you permit stuff to get a foot in the door, the less clutter will grow in your organized home!

Long Eaton volunteer recognised at awards Local volunteers Sheena Parry has won an award to recognise the contribution she has made to the charity Guide Dogs. At the Guide Dogs’ Local Volunteer Awards on Wednesday (8 June), Sheena was presented with the award in the Customer Focused category. Sheena, from Long Eaton is a My Guide volunteer for Guide Dogs. As a My Guide volunteer she helps people with sight loss to get out and about in their local area. One of those people is Netty Stevens, from Newark. Netty said: “I am blind and wanted to go running but did not think this would be possible due to my sight loss and because of my age and fitness levels. I even had the crazy idea I might even run a marathon one day. Sheena made me feel at ease from day one. To go out on our first run was amazing. when I think back to that day I have a big smile on my face. We have now completed four half marathons, have entered 2016 Great North Run and we’re training for the London Marathon 2017. Even though Sheena is guiding me skilfully she still spends time helping others that are struggling. If you told me two years ago that I would be out running doing half marathon's I would have believed it but now I believe that I can and I believe in me, this thanks to Sheena.” This year to mark Volunteers Week (112 June), Guide Dogs’ Local Volunteer Awards were held throughout the country

64

during the month of June. The awards celebrated the valuable contributions and achievements made by the organisation’s dedicated volunteers. Guide Dogs had a record breaking 500 nominations based around Guide Dogs values: Customer Focused, Trustworthy, Maximising Impact, Dedicated to Superior Quality, Passionate and Determinate, Inclusive and Embracing. Jo Prior, head of mobility services for the local Guide Dogs team, said: “Our volunteers make a huge difference in helping us deliver services to people with sight loss. Locally we have 730 active volunteers who carry out over 1,100 roles. As an organisation we couldn’t function without their ongoing commitment and support and we’re grateful for the time, energy and passion they give to help us make a positive difference to a person’s life.”Overall winners from each local event will be entered for consideration in the Guide Dogs’ Annual People Awards taking place on 11th November 2016. Guide Dogs: There are around 180,000 blind and partially sighted people living in the UK who find it difficult to leave home on their own. Guide Dogs wants to change that, but as it receives no government or statutory funding it relies entirely on the generosity of the public to provide a service that makes a massive difference to the lives of blind and partial sighted people. www.guidedogs.org.uk

Greenfingered School Children Brighten Up Stapleford Schoolchildren from Albany Infants School helped brighten up the local area last week as they joined Deputy Mayor of the Borough of Broxtowe, Councillor Halimah Khaled MBE and local community groups at a planting event at Montrose Court. The children helped the Councillor Khaled along with members of Stapleford Community Group and Dig In Community Allotment at the event. Officers from Broxtowe Borough Council's Housing Team were also on hand to help out on the day and the Council provided bags, gloves and litter pickers which were used to clear the area before the new plants were put in place. The children were awarded gold star awards at the end of the day as a thank you for their efforts. The awards were donated by Broxtowe Play Forum.

Heroes Honoured For Armed Forces Day A 96-Year old veteran joined Mayor of the Borough of Broxtowe, Councillor Graham Harvey to raise a specially commissioned Armed Forces Day Flag in Beeston to mark a week of events that was held across the country last month. Tom Day joined soldiers from 170 (Infrastructure Support) Engineer Group Royal Engineers and Councillor Graham Harvey to raise the flag and address representatives from Royal British Legion, Forces in the Community, Freemen, Aldermen, Past Mayors, councillors and members of the public in Beeston Square to recognise the contributions of all those who serve or have served in Her Majesty's Armed Forces. At the same time, local authorities and over 3,000 members of the public, businesses and schools throughout the country raised their own Armed Forces Day flags to honour the nation's servicemen and women. Armed Forces Day flags were flown where British servicemen and women are serving overseas, including Afghanistan, Cyprus, Germany, Gibraltar and the Falkland Islands. This year's Armed Forces Day took place on Saturday 25th June, with Cleethorpes being chosen to host this year's Armed Forces Day national event, to honour the British Armed Forces of past, present and future. The day is an annual opportunity for the nation to show its support for the men and women who make up the Armed Forces community. The title 'Armed Forces Day' has been chosen to reflect the wider Armed Forces family of serving personnel - both regular and reserve, as well as our veterans, cadet forces and the service families.
