Founded in 1940, Bates Technical College is the oldest existing public technical college in Washington State, United States. The Bates Advantage • Program variety. Bates offers two-year associate of applied science degrees, certificates of competency, certificates of training, industry certifications and, in specific programs, prepares students for the achievement of state licensure. The college maintains articulation degrees with several four-year universities, making some of the college's two-year degrees transferable. • No English proficiency required. Student who are proficient in English may enroll directly into Bates, and those who are not can enroll in Intensive English classes and smoothly transfer to the program of their choice. • Small class sizes and hands-on learning. With our small class sizes, our faculty and staff will support you every step of the way. As a leader in hands-on learning, Bates' classroom settings mirror the workplace, providing students with opportunities to practice and develop skills to levels required for successful employment. • Affordability. Three Convenient Campus Locations Tacoma is the second largest city in the Puget Sound area, Washington State and the fourth safest city in the U.S. with a population approximately 200,000. It is located 35 miles south of Seattle, along the shore of Commencement Bay. An international city, Seattle, is home to many prestigious companies including Microsoft, Expedia, Amazon, Starbucks and Boeing. Bates Technical College operates on three urban campuses, with over 600,000 square feet of classrooms, shops, meeting rooms, and offices, including one that houses its own PBS-affiliated public television station, KBTC. They are well situated in the downtown Tacoma area, close to beautiful city parks, spectacular Pacific Ocean, cultural museums, diversified restaurants and outlet malls. Four great options to meet your goals •

Intensive English study Students who do not have English proficiency can take Bates’ Intensive English classes, and smoothly transfer to their career-training program of choice.

High-school completion Get a Washington state high school diploma and earn college credit at the same time.

Professional/technical degree or certificate Study a program and earn a certificate in six to nine months. Or continue in the program to earn your Associate in Applied Science degree. Students usually like this option because you can study for a short time, and then enter the job market in your country.

Four-year university transfer options Earn an AAS -T (Associate of Applied Science - Transfer degree) at Bates, and then transfer to a four-year university. Earning your AAS -T can save you money.

How to Apply Bates Technical College has a separate admission process for international students. An international student is someone who will be attending under a non-immigrant visa status such as F-1 or M-1. Once you have decided on a program of study, you can submit the following documents to apply: 1. Submit a completed International Student Application – available for download online www.batestech.edu or request by email international@bates.ctc.edu 2. Copy of valid passport photo page 3. Bank statement in English verifying $19,110 USD available for the first year of study 4. Official transcript from most recent attended institution, in sealed envelope (optional) 5. Proof of English Proficiency (optional) 6. Applicants must be 16 years of age by program start date If you are currently in active status at another U.S. school: • Completed Transfer Release Form • Copy of visa • Copy of I-20 • Unofficial transcript from previous school
