COLLEGE AND CAREER PATHWAYS Bates offers multiple programs to support students who need to complete high school or prepare for college or a career. Whether you need to complete your high school diploma, or improve your reading, writing or math skills, our programs are designed to help you succeed in the workplace or attain your educational goals. College academic transfer and general education courses: Offered at all three of our campuses, with many courses also available online. Transfer &100 and &200 level, and 90 and 100 level gen-ed courses in math, English, communication, and other areas meet Bates’ AAS and AS-T degree, or certificate requirements. Academic coursework complements your industry-specific skills training. In addition, Bates academic transfer faculty offer the “WA45” coursework and the 60 credits of academic transfer coursework required for LPN students. Visit www.bates.ctc.edu/ GeneralEd to learn more.

Basic Education for Adults (BEdA) math, reading, and writing skill development courses: Our BEdA 80-level courses in mathematics develop a solid foundation of skills for students to successfully transition to 90-level algebra coursework. Our BEdA courses in English provide a similar skill foundation for students to successfully transition to 90-level reading, writing and English coursework. BEdA and Adult High School courses cost $25 per quarter. ABE courses may be combined or taken concurrently with Adult High School completion coursework, and count as credit towards the Adult High School diploma. Bates career training students can also enroll in BEdA courses to brush up on skills prior to enrolling in college level coursework.

Adult High School Program: Adults 18 years and older who have not yet earned their diploma find a great fit with Bates’ competency-based high school diploma program. We evaluate your high school credits, your work, military or life experiences to design a completion pathway unique to you. Our program encourages students to transition into college and career programs that lead to living-wage careers. Young adults aged 18-20 may be eligible for our Technical High School program which directly enrolls students into college degree programs. 6 | TRANSFORM Bates Technical College Fall/Winter Class Schedule - 2018

FINISH YOUR HIGH SCHOOL DIPLOMA OR TAKE CLASSES DESIGNED TO PREPARE YOU FOR COLLEGE.

Afternoon Technical High School Pathway, South Campus Students take more general education graduation requirements to help make up for missing credits and take some career training classes in the early evening. While it is possible to attain a high school diploma in this pathway, the goal is to transition students into a diploma and career training pathway.

HIGH SCHOOL PATHWAYS What if you could earn your high school diploma and an associate degree in a world-class career training program at the same time, tuition free? Bates offers several unique pathways for high school-age students, age 16-21. Visit www.bates. ctc.edu/highschool to learn more. Running Start, day, all campuses Running Start is a statewide program that allows qualified high school juniors and seniors to receive college credit, tuition free, while completing high school requirements. Traditionally, Running Start students attend our career education programs full time. Most programs start at 7:30 a.m. and end by 3 p.m., Monday-Friday. Because most of our programs are full-time, Running Start students need to work closely with their home high school counselors to create schedules that allow for them to attend Bates.

High School Diploma & Career Training Pathway, day, all campuses In this pathway, students will complete all state high school graduation requirements, as well as the college requirements for industry certification in their chosen program. In some programs, students have the opportunity to earn over 2,000 apprenticeship hours towards journeyman.

COMMUNITY PROGRAMS

APPRENTICES WORK IN THE FIELD EARNING WAGES AT A PERCENTAGE OF THE JOURNEY-LEVEL RATE

Apprenticeship Have you been in the workforce and want to learn a new trade or skill? Are you a high school student who wants to enter the workforce? Apprenticeship programs offer paid, on-the-job learning.

Continuing Education Expand your potential. Our continuing education opportunities can help you meet your career goals, or learn a new skill or hobby. Most classes are held in the evenings and weekends to accommodate busy work schedules. Classes include:

Apprentices work in the field earning wages at a percentage of the journeylevel rate while also attending classes on a part-time basis, typically in the evenings. Apprenticeships are one to five years in length, and upon completion, apprentices receive a journeyman-level certificate of completion from the Washington State Department of Labor and Industries Apprenticeship & Training Council.

• Boiler Certification • Business Administration • Career and Technical Education Certification (K-12) • Construction and Trades • Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) • Engineering and CAD/CAM • First Aid and CPR • Flagger Training Certification • Food Truck 101 • Forklift Operation Certification • LPN Self-Study Refresher • Phlebotomy • Public Safety

In addition to earning the certificate, apprentices have the opportunity to earn an associate degree from Bates in Apprenticeship Studies. How to get into an apprenticeship program To gain entry into a Bates-affiliated apprenticeship program, you should contact the apprenticeship training coordinator directly. Eligibility varies, but typically, you must have a high school diploma or GED, be at least 16 years, and demonstrate the ability and aptitude to complete the program. Continuing Education Refund Policy Continuing Education classes are self-supported, and Bates will cancel a class if there are too few participants enrolled to cover the cost. If your withdrawal notification is given at least one business day prior to the first day of class, or the class is canceled, you will receive a 100 percent refund.
