The municipal centre Dale is a charming fjord village with a good selection of shops and cafes, caravan park and motel. There are berths for boats in the marina. At BUA Fjaler you can borrow leisure equipment completely free of charge, including kayak and canoe. The climbing park in the centre is also popular with children. At Dale centre there is a charging station for electric cars. Badevika

Badevika in Dale is a popular sandy beach close to the city centre. Here there is a diving board, swimming raft, sand volleyball court, barbecues, and fire pit.

Get to know the buildings and history of the village of Dale. At Fjalerhuset and in the Jakob Sande yard, you will find the booklet “Kulturvandring i Dale”. There is also a cultural walking tail of its own in Jakob Sande’s footsteps through Dale, starting in the Jakob Sande yard. Via your mobile phone, you can listen to audio narrations and watch videos about Jakob Sande’s life and poetry. It is also possible to have a guided tour in Jakob Sande and Nikka Vonen’s realm with the summer hosts in the Jakob Sande centre. See more at kulturvandring.no

The Theater Festival in Fjaler

Theatre festival every year in September. The festival has a thematic superstructure, and emphasis is placed on creating a meeting point between art and the village on several levels. teaterfestivalenifjaler.no

Nordic Center for Artists, NKD

Established in 1998, NKD is an international residence for artists, designers, and architects. Dalsåsen is a nice hiking and resting area, with a panoramic view of Dale. Information boards tell about the history and operations. Guided tour by appointment. nkdale.no

BUA Fjaler has everything you need in terms of equipment for a pleasant trip to the mountains or the beach! BUA is a national non-profit organization that works to ensure that everyone, especially children and young people, have the opportunity to be active. We do this by lending out equipment for sports and outdoor activities – completely free! You can borrow fishing rods, tents, life jackets, hammocks, SUP and bicycles and more. Reception this summer is in Jakob Sande yard, Tuesday, and Thursday 11.00 – 13.00. www.bua.io

Dale

Øyra, near the centre of Dale, is temporarily arranged for camper vans and caravans with 4 power outlets, emptying station, and access to water in a house inside the area. Øyra is on the other side of the river in front of Dale church in the direction of Bjerga. The old ferry quay is not organized in any way – but is nicely located by the fjord.

Yndestad Gard

Located by Yndestadvatnet in Guddal. Campsite open all year round with pitches for camper vans and caravans and tents. Sanitary facilities and emptying station. Boat and canoe for loan, hiking area and freshwater fishing. yndestadgard.no

Korssund Gjestehamn

30 boat berths at nice floating jetties. Here you also have a stand for motorhomes and caravans, a shop and a kiosk. In Korssund Is the largest stone cross in Western Norway.

Salmon and sea aure fishing

The Guddal watercourse stretched around 30 km from the Flekkefjord to the mountain in Guddal. The first 8.5 km up to Harefossen constitute the anadromous part of the river. You can find information about fishing licenses at inatur.no

Jakob Sande – center for storytelling

Visit the Jakob Sande yard where the popular author, lyricist, and poet Jakob Sande (1906-1967) was born and raised. Here you will find Bestefarsstaua with the museum collection, the shelter, the farmhouse with poems – residence, bookshop and museum shop. Open every day at 11.00 – 16.00, from 26 June – 13 August. Summer exhibition, tours, walks, literature salons, Sande programme, BUA lending scheme, tourist information, bookshop and café. Open summer program every week. Lammetun Coastal Fort

The fort is one of the best-preserved coastal forts after the Second World War. You can walk in the bunkers, see an exhibition of local photos from the war and see murals that the German painted themselves. lammetunkystfort.com

Leonard’s Forlaavelse

Leonard’s Forlaavelse (Engagement), is an oasis of experiences. Here you will find a farm shop with baked goods, local food, a large cheese counter, and an interior shop with an intimate and authentic atmosphere, as well as a garden building / greenhouse and herb garden in the spring stones by the Dalsfjord. A perfect place for a day trip, for exciting shopping, or just peace and relaxation with good tastes.

Leonards Forlaavelse is located by the Dalsfjord. Turn off at Nærbutikken Hellevik (grocery shop at Hellevik), drive onto the gravel road, turn right and down the hill. Tel.: +47 450 27 443. At Hellevik there is also a grocery store and a nice sandy beach if you want to swim. The cultural monument Nilsbua is also well worth a visit.

Twilight tour on Dalsfjorden

Bakkejekta is a copy of one of Norway’s oldest preserved boats, built in Dalsfjorden in Sunnfjord. Every Tuesday at 19.00 in July you can join a sailing trip with Bakkejekta on Dalsfjorden. Here you can experience the beautiful Dalsfjord, villages and mountains, stories about the fjord people, nature and the Icelanders from here and not least; if it’s windy, you get to experience an 18th-century yacht under sail. HIKING TRAILS

Fossedalen. Lower and upper Fossedalen is a hiking gem, with old hiking trails and waterfalls. Start at the car park at Otterstein by the Dalfjord bridge. Marked hiking trail via Fossevika.

Heileberget, 761 masl. Marked hiking trail to Fløyen (top of Heileberget mountain). The path is well marked. It’s a hard climb, some steeper parts but no climbing. The trip is approx. 5.5 km long and demanding. Magnificent panoramic view from the top over the Dalsfjord and the coast to the west.

Lillingstonheimen

Lillingstonheimen on Tysse is a magistrates’ court from 1808, today owned by the Fortidsminneforeningen and accessible to everyone. Large and stately main building with extensive library and many cultural treasures and a beautiful English garden.

Nilsbua, Hellevik quay

Coastal cultural heritage – large maritime complex with nostalgic country store, shipping expedition and residence / museum. Summer opening July / Aug: Fri. and Son. At 13.00 – 16.00. Café with a hall of baked goods, local food, and nostalgic goods. Lottery / bazaar and photo exhibition. Pub. See FB for events.

Korssund

Korssund is an old guest harbor in the far west of Fjaler municipality, with a rich and interesting history. The place got its name from a 4-metre-high stone cross that was erected by King Olav the Holy around the year 1030 during the Christianization of Norway. The stone cross is one of the largest in the country and is of the “Olavskross” type. Korssund is a naturally good harbor, and here there is an active boat life in the summer.

Dagsturhytta Vidsyn at Bygdeheia, 280 masl. The start is about a 40-minute drive from Dale. From Flekke follow fv. 607 against Fure. Parking is at Furset (located between Fure ferry quay and Våge school). You turn off the main road and drive 750 meters along a gravel road to the car park. The path from Furset starts on a forest road, before going sharply to the right. From there, you go straight up to Bygdeheia. Fantastic view out to the sea towards Alden. It is about 2 km path, and you go up in between 30 – 60 minutes depending on your pace.

Grøneholten, 411 masl, around Østenstad (8,3 km) Start in Hatledalen at the top of Vassverkbakken in Dale. Well-marked hiking trail.

Jarstadheia, 584 masl. Start at Rakneberg by Dale, or at Haugland. Great view over Dale and the Dalsfjord.

Flekkenipa, 370 masl. and Flekkestølen. Start at fv 57 in Stavsdalen between Dale and Flekke.

Einingsfjellet, 258 masl. Start from Våge in the direction of Korssund. Magnificent panoramic view from the top.

Arsteinheia, 446 masl. Start from Indre Åsnes at Straumsnes and follow the signs to the parking space.

The Post Road to Trondhjem. The historic post road was built in the years 1801 –1806 and has several fine stone bridges. The road between Fjaler and Hyllestad is well signposted and a nice hiking trail.

Philosophy trail, 3,6 km. Start at Lillingstonheimen. The hiking trail runs in the gorge between Tysse and Leitet, further along the country road to Fagervika. The trails go over Fredensborgåsen and back down to Tysse bridge. Fredensborg is a park with a cemetery from 1824 in the middle of the forest.
